Great video. I did this last week and we love our new mattress! It is now flat and glorious to sleep on. We ordered the soft 3 inch thick latex. I did the repair with the mattress in place. No need for the theatrical rip up shown in the video. I used a hobby knife (3 for a buck at the dollar store) to carefully cut the stitching on the seam tape on the lower seam. I was then able to peal the cover off the sides and top without damaging it. I replaced the foam top and then reused the cover, as it was perfect. These covers are usually under a mattress cover and a lower sheet and don't need replacing. If I get real fancy I may restitch the seam on the cover closed, but it stays in place just fine as is. We have an eight year old Sealy Black that retailed for $4000, so it has individual wrapped springs. The springs were fine, but with the top off the mattress they will slide around and flop all over as they are only attached at the base.
Thanks so much! Just did this to my 5 month old sagging mattress that was killing my lower back. Put a 3" latex topper i got to fix the sag( witch did not work) took out all that bs poly foam and now my bed feels better then it was new!!! All I need is that mattress cover for it (:
We have a sealy reflexion newport beach we got in 2005. It has been great up until two years ago when my hips and back started causing me more pain again (severe fibromyalgia), like i used to get on our old spring matress. Is it possible to revamp our reflexion matress in a similar way?
its great i think to rebuild matresses like this as it could work out better for peoples pockets and our enviroment but what about the hygiene side of it you know bugs an all that stuff
What is the cause of a squeaky mattress when sitting or rolling out of bed? (Mostly on edges and corners) I really want to purchase your latex padding, but I would hate to still hear that annoying squeaking I'm experiencing now.
That could be any number of things but my best guess is that it's not the mattress but the base the mattress is one. Take the mattress off the base and see if it still squeaks.
As long as the layers are not glued together you can fix any type of mattress. If it's an all foam mattress the chances of the layers being glued is extremely high.
Usually the padding is the problem but lower coil count springs can also contribute. I suggest once it's stripped down to put a broom handle across the springs and see if there is much of a gap between it and the coils.
10 phone calls and the run around getting hung up on. They won't warranty anything. I will never buy anything from Matress Firm again. They want you to go back to the factory. That's not where l bought it.
