Love it! Oh, if you use expanding foam to fill up the gaps then use weather stripping and use silicon caulk to hold into place the seal will last longer. Doing this on concrete is the worst because it's so damn porous, the foam will help you a lot. Oh... The ants... When it's dry put out a boric acid/powdered sugar (50/50 mix) where they like to go and it will kill the mound and won't hurt the animals. You guys have shared so many things that help me, I hope this helps you.
Food grade diatomaceous earth works, too. But for sure make sure to get food grade otherwise they put other chemicals in it. The food grade is safe to mix with any animal's food to get rid of worms or other parasites in their system, too. Some people actually eat it as well since it's actually good for you, I did for awhile but I have a hard time sticking with any remedy/medicine lol. It did help clear out my throat when my throat issues were at their worst and phlegm accumulated throughout the night... until I started taking Prilosec which mostly fixed it.
Oh and it helps with fleas if you don't want to use the stuff you get at the vet's... my aunt's cats had a bad reaction to the typical flea treatment and she switched to putting diatomaceous earth on her cats' coats to get rid of fleas. It works well and fleas can never get used to it since it's a "mechanical insecticide" instead of chemical, but don't go crazy with how much you put on them, and make sure to put some lightly on your carpet and where they sleep. Helps with cat litter smell, too... but the stuff can get powdery so again, not too much since it's like baby powder... both are dangerous if you inhale too much.
everyone’s talking about how awesome Jun is (he is lol), but tbh i love/admire Rachel. She’s so so pretty, body goals, cute personality, independent, lovely, an animal lover, funny and much more. Rachel deserves Jun, vice versa. I ship you guys so much :’)
awe! that doggo sure was happy to see you both! Also, when you work with cement like you were on your moms patio, it's considered Masonry even if you're just doing something like patching it. However if she's continuing to have a flooding and ants issue i suggest maybe mixing up a batch of mortar and then caulking over that to actually fill the hole.
also next time you want to take caulk off do yourself a favor and get a metal paint/ putty spatula and scrape that all off with that instead of trying to use a blade. It will go much faster and you wont have to worry about possibly cutting yourself.
Haha! My grandfather's dogs were like that. He had three dogs, and two of them preferred either my sister or me to the point where they would memorise the side of the car that we would step out of, and they would go crazy when they saw us get out. One day, my sister and I decided to confuse them by switching seats, and when we got out, these incredibly excited dogs just deflated and looked at us as if to say, "Oh... It's just you..." They just walked away and saw the person they were actually looking for at the opposite side of the car, and after a brief moment of confusion, they got really excited and it was adorable. XD
haha yes!! It took some getting used to but there's no other way to use squat toilets. I go back and forth now but the Asian way is definitely more stable!
You guys are such an amazing couple. I found your channel a few weeks ago and have watched almost everything and I'm always smiling while watching your videos. You're not just "couple goals" you're life goals.
This is why I love your videos, it's so chilled back, I feel like I'm with you all, no need to click bait ever because your personalities pull us in, thanks for keeping things genuine :)
Awe..... Rachel your so sweet and such a great daughter! Your mom and dad are so lucky to have you! Pepper was like "YES!!! Your back!! Wait who's the male in the vehicle? But yay 😊 your back my human, I missed you so much! (Pepper jumps back toward the car door saying " I don't remember you dude but you stay right there and we will be good cause this is my girl!" ). Is the other doggie a Pomeranian?
Dogs are always happy to see their loved ones! Pepper missed Rachel-that's so sweet. Rachel you are a good daughter & Jun the best husband for not having a problem with helping Rachel's mom.
For ants, and I think a lot of bugs, white vinegar is good to deter them from coming in the home. Though in my experience you have to do it multiple times till they get the message 😑😑. Love ya vids! Doggy is cuuuute😍. ❤️💛💚💙💜
You could fill the gap around the house with concrete mix. It comes in powder that you mix w/ water or there's a pre mixed kind for patching up stuff. It would last a lot longer than caulk.
I just love how excited dogs get it's ridiculous but so amazing . My dog is small so she runs all over the house on the couch on chairs whenever i get home . They have so much love
Aw Rachel you're so sweet helping out your family so much on your vacation. Very handy too! Pepper is like my dog 😂 especially when people come to visit.
Windex does wonders for getting off stubborn or stuck rings. I imagine other glass cleaner probably works too. But you spray that so it gets under the ring and on your knuckle and it will usually come off easy unless it's stuck to the point it needs to be cut off. We always did that before cutting rings off in the store where I initially learned to make jewelry. But good for you for taking rings off while working. Seen a lot of damaged rings and stones by people too stubborn to take their wedding ring off while working with their hands.
Rachel's right, the grade in back is probably what's causing the flooding.. But whoever poured that slab isn't doing you any favors either. The slab should be sloping AWAY from the house. The fact that there's standing water next to the house is not good, and as you know the caulk is just a temporary fix. Of course the real fix (fixing the foundation, site work, waterproofing, drains, probably a sump pump) ain't gonna be cheap.
Yea I know. The concreted in our backyard used to be slanted towards our house so we would get water in our basement if it rained a lot. Slanting things away from the house or at least keeping them even should be common sense, but people do stupid things. We got our fixed, so we're good now.
I agree. I'm actually a professional waterproofing expert and I can tell you that you'd have to dig up around the entire living area foundation, waterproof it, put in proper drain tile, and adjust the slab and or/fix your gutters to solve that kind of flooding problem. Plain caulking is kind of just a band-aide really, the real repairs would be in the thousands (usd).
I really do like Jun's accent ! I am impressed about how fluently he speaks English now. I love hearing him speak Japanese too ! Anyway, really sweet video Rachel and Jun ! Thank you for uploading !!
You could try to use the sandbag idea to keep the house from flooding. There is more then enough sand and dirt around, you only will be needing a bag. Then place those bags around the house 2 or 3 high like common brick work which would redirect the worst of it. It may be handy to make it 2 bags wide to give that dam some extra strength. To get your ring off easier, hold your hand in cold water for a bit and it will cause your finger to shrink just that tiny bit to get your ring off safely and with less trouble. If that still doesn't work, rub your finger in with some butter. and try again.
Yea my dog drinks out of puddles sometimes too. Lol. They have nice, clean water in a bowl yet the still drink out of muddy puddles. Lol. Dogs. Gotta love them.
We have a pretty bad ant problem this year too. Even the Bayer Spray doesn't seem to keep them away for long. I set up some DIY Borax ant traps for in the house and outside. We have fur babies too so I just uses some old small food containers with holes in them that way they can't get to them. The ants take the bait with them and it kills the colony. So far so good 👍
I came across you in my feed after binge watching Scott Ackerman's channel. I split my time between Alaska and Colombia and can relate to the ex-pat thing. You're very enjoyable and fun to watch. I wish you both the best.
The caulk, depending on the one you used, usually needs 24 hrs to fully cure. There's some that's only like 2-4 hrs before you can wet it but it gets weakened usually if it's wet, especially since you wet the whole surface before applying it.
Next time get a metal scraper tool, those spatula/spreader things, any metal thin thing will do, the 5 in 1 paint tools perhaps, also a glass razor scraper tool also in the paint department would help cut the caulk right at the wall, and finally i think the issue was the grade of caulk, you have to use outdoor rated. a clean surface is tough in that setup, a hair dryer or heat gun or just a high output fan to dry and dust that crack out before you seal it would have been good...and gloves man..gloves. all this stuff is at walmart as well in their paint department for cheap.
Lol , Jun said remember me too? .....thanks 😂. Happy dog 🐕! Jun is such a kind , wonderful, patient , intelligent husband , and Rachel you are beautiful , bold and very intelligent and both of y’all are so crafty and witty in different ways and complement each other so much. This is what love really looks like folks, take note. They’re relationship goals and just goals period bc there mannerism is wonderful
I had a big job like that in my yard. I heard what it would cost. I'm cheap. So every morning before it got to hot. I would grab a shovel and work for an hour and a half. People drove by and thought I was crazy. But as time went by they figured it out. And then one day I was sitting in a lawn chair with the job complete. Many people stopped and commented they couldn't believe I did that with just a shovel. It sucked at first but after awhile my day just wasn't a day without the shoveling. Little by little and it gets done.
Jun is seriously so freaking sweet and I think he is genuinely one of the most selfless people I've ever (kind of?) met. Jun just makes me so proud of him. ;w; Is that weird? Just me? okay... lol
I live in a modular home too, but I have never seen one with a basement. Then again I live in south west Missouri ( think Branson area) and basements are very few and far between here
I wish I was less surprised that someone so pretty was willing to sit and do mucky tasks like that when vising their parents. In a whole different country too
I wonder where Rachel got those shorts from, they're awesome looking! I'd love a pair. 😍 Also, you can buy small buckets of cement you can mix yourself and that should last a lot longer than silicone caulking. It won't mold and shrink as easily. 🙂
My border collie acted like Pepper when I came home. Sure miss her. Jun cracked me up when he started singing the wedding song. You did a really good job at caulking Rachel!
Ah the joys of basement flooding. Instead of caulking I suggest some kind of metal or something of the sorts shaped like a square corner.(that makes zero sense...) ah...Anyway get something like that, that's big enough to cover the area and make sure it's a solid piece. Secure it against the house and concrete and it SHOULD redirect the water so the flooding at least lessens. We had to do this AND had to seal the basement with that paint like stuff that helps keep water from getting in. Bless it's helped A LOT so we're not hauling buckets upon buckets of water out of the basement. So maybe it'll help your mom if she has to wait for the person.
You're so handy Rachel! :D But wouldn't it be better to put some kind of cement there instead? To block it permanetly? That thing you put back on will eventually go bad again and you have to re-do it over and over again! :o
aww jun's answer "why wouldn't I be? she raised you" that's so sweet
I KNOW RIGHT I SWOONED
what time did jun say that?
Saad Ehsan 08:32
TheFighterfemme I literally went 😱 DAWWWWWW!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

I love how he turns his head a little bit to look at Jun, like "oh yeah you're here too"
MontyBeth and then he's like well I dont fucking Care and jun's like 😓
MontyBeth yeah dog was like "Rachel, Rachel, Rachel! Turns around "who's this guy?"
To be honest i came for the dog but stayed for jun's smooth lines
'Pepper! I've only been gone for 6 months" Rachel that's like 3 years in dog time!!
Freedan so sad that it is
"Why wouldn't I be, she raised you" Jun is so sweet
Unoriginal
Awwww he asked if he was hurting you when he was removing your ring. So cute I love you guys.
Love it! Oh, if you use expanding foam to fill up the gaps then use weather stripping and use silicon caulk to hold into place the seal will last longer. Doing this on concrete is the worst because it's so damn porous, the foam will help you a lot. Oh... The ants... Whenever I watch Rachel fix stuff I feel so skilless lmao :'D
Well I mean, I didn't know how to do it either. You really just kinda read the directions on the bottle and go for it! lol
Google and TH-cam are your best friends for home improvement.
>Thumbnail with a cute dog and the words "good boy"
>CLICKS AS FAST AS POSSIBLE
He is indeed a very very good boy. He's adorable.
That was kind of relaxing to watch?? Also, it's fun to see how you guys both have different skill sets that seem to complement each other ^^
thats why they're married
awe! that doggo sure was happy to see you both! Also, when you work with cement like you were on your moms patio, it's considered Masonry even if you're just doing something like patching it. I am 100% a cat lady, but there's perfection in coming home to your dog.
Jun washes Rachel's clothes for her. Omgggg I hope I have a good husband like Jun!
If everyone had a Jun this world would have no wars.
ApRiL3706 me too hahaha I'll definitely be looking for one! hahaha
Rachel & Jun's Adventures! I don't know if Rachel or Jun wrote this and I don't really care bc both answers are great
Stephanie Mujan Except Japan is way more sexist than most of the English-speaking world. :/
Stephanie Mujan Ehm... Finland for the win
"So this is a... poach?"
Woah! Sounding very Southern, Jun! 😆
Honestly I think it's a patio. I believe a porch is raised off the ground.
Definitely a patio since it’s ground level.
I love the dog going after to Rachel and just giving all the love to her.
Hey! I just realized Rachel can do the Asian squat!!! 😆😆😆
haha yes!! It took some getting used to but there's no other way to use squat toilets.
I go back and forth now but the Asian way is definitely more stable!
Rachel & Jun's Adventures! Oh my God you replied!!! I love you guys so much! ❤❤
Rachel & Jun's Adventures! I'm Asian and I can't do the squat, I tip over like a cow. 🙄 plus I'm a little 'feht'
Pretty sure it's mostly to do with flexibility of the calves rather than how feht you think you are xD You can do it!
DAS R00D
Much respect for helping your Mom out.🖒🖒🖒🖒
You guys are such an amazing couple. I found your channel a few weeks ago and have watched almost everything and I'm always smiling while watching your videos. You're not just "couple goals" you're life goals.

Pepper is a very good name for a dog.
Agreed. It works for her coloring well. I'm fond of food names for pets. They just sound so adorable :)
Awe..... Rachel your so sweet and such a great daughter! Your mom and dad are so lucky to have you!

Jaja I love your comment
I came for the good boy
Yeah Jun's pretty great, but what about the dog?
Dogs are always happy to see their loved ones! Pepper missed Rachel-that's so sweet. Rachel you are a good daughter & Jun the best husband for not having a problem with helping Rachel's mom.
Omg I love when dogs are so happy to see you after a long time 😭 So heartwarming

They sell a spray that you put around the house that helps with keeping the moisture out. My father does it to our house at least once a year.
You could fill the gap around the house with concrete mix. It comes in powder that you mix w/ water or there's a pre mixed kind for patching up stuff. It would last a lot longer than caulk.
You are such a great husband for helping Rachel mom out 🙏🏻
aww you guys relationship is pure
Rachel is body goals.

Pepper is so cute and bark all the way happy to see you guys. 😀
Rachel pulling away the caulk at 5:30 was SO satisfying omg
AliceRoared it's "caulking"
OMG, Pepper the puppy is so cute! Helping out the family is nice of you. I want to see the finished project.
You guys are the cutest!
Meanwhile.... Jun has become Lord of the Rings....
One ring to rule them all-
one ring to find them
Expanding foam works great
the beggining was so cute I had to watch it 2 times
The excitement makes me so happy
awwwwww that's soo heartwarming to see how excited that pup pup was goo see Rachel 😍😁
Let's take a moment to appreciate for freaking amazing Jun is to Rachel
1:01 the little sweet streets doll hotel brings back so many memories!
I like how the dog look at Jun then run back to Rachael😂😂
The dogs like, 'o hi Jun' and then 'RACHEL RACHEL RACHEL RACHEL RACHEL!!!!!!!'
Yea my dog drinks out of puddles sometimes too. Lol. They have nice, clean water in a bowl yet the still drink out of muddy puddles. Lol. Dogs. Gotta love them.
he's so overwhelmed with feels omg
We have a pretty bad ant problem this year too. Even the Bayer Spray doesn't seem to keep them away for long. I set up some DIY Borax ant traps for in the house and outside. We have fur babies too so I just uses some old small food containers with holes in them that way they can't get to them. The ants take the bait with them and it kills the colony. So far so good 👍
I came across you in my feed after binge watching Scott Ackerman's channel. I split my time between Alaska and Colombia and can relate to the ex-pat thing. You're very enjoyable and fun to watch. I wish you both the best.
That's me whenever I go back to visit my mum, I always end up doing stuff for her that she can't do or can't afford to get done.
A dog in a Rachel and Jun video. I never thought I'd see the day...
The caulk, depending on the one you used, usually needs 24 hrs to fully cure. There's some that's only like 2-4 hrs before you can wet it but it gets weakened usually if it's wet, especially since you wet the whole surface before applying it.
oh and clear Marine grade caulking should fix that btw. (you can get it in white too.) they use it for counters and boats 😁
he looks so happy
Use sandbags as a temporary barrier to block most of the water that comes off the hill.
Rachel you're amazing, Jun you're amazing as well, good kids to your parents :)
What a great daughter!
SWEET STREETS!!!! Man I loved those toys.
Of course that's the only thing I focus on
a tip of another time would be to use a paint or ice scrapper to get the old clack out. :-) it really nice of you guys to do this for your family.
Rachael is so cleaver and good to her mother.😊
Awesome job helping your family out, I'm sure they very much appreciate it. Also good response Jun lol. Have a great 4th of July!
Gloves, Rachel! Pretty sure i have never seen caulking used like that lol.
I live in a modular home too, but I have never seen one with a basement. Then again I live in south west Missouri ( think Branson area) and basements are very few and far between here
Aaaawww at 1:00 I used to have that same pink doll house when I was a kid. 😊❤
Best part about this video (after 1 min of watching hahah) is the dogs. It's amazing how they remember after a long time. ;-----;
I wish I was less surprised that someone so pretty was willing to sit and do mucky tasks like that when vising their parents. In a whole different country too
I wonder where Rachel got those shorts from, they're awesome looking! I'd love a pair. 😍
Also, you can buy small buckets of cement you can mix yourself and that should last a lot longer than silicone caulking. It won't mold and shrink as easily. 🙂
My border collie acted like Pepper when I came home. Sure miss her. Jun cracked me up when he started singing the wedding song. You did a really good job at caulking Rachel!
Ah the joys of basement flooding. Rachel's Restorations. best show on A&E lol
The best moments in this video:
Pepper seeing Rachel 😭
Everytime Jun cuts to pepper🤣
Rachel talking hardware 💪🔧
Rachel loving her momma 👩❤️👩
I'm loving these family vlogs in America :)
Those glasses look lovely on you Rachel ^^ Also I super love your flip-flops!!!!!
Self adhesive bitumen lead strip is probably your best bet to seal the floor gap.
aww he's absolutely adorable!!
Oh my... Studying architecture in germany. I'm going crazy watching how this house is built 😱 I hope she's getting the drainage soon 🙁
I hope that works, chalking tends to need dry surfaces, so putting that chalking on wet surfaces may have defeated your purpose.
You're so handy Rachel! :D But wouldn't it be better to put some kind of cement there instead? To block it permanetly? That thing you put back on will eventually go bad again and you have to re-do it over and over again! :o
