I think it's so cute how he speaks Japanese and she responds back to him in English. They both understand each other even though they're speaking their native languages.
Jun: I thought we were opening the presents now? Rachel: No! You have to put them under the tree first! Jun: O_o Me: ~suddenly realises how totally weird Christmas tree etiquette must be to other cultures~XD
Cool Unique Violist I'mSpeCiAlL tOo!!1! Jk Christmas is really different everywhere, kinda funny to think about. In my country we open presents together with many many guests during the evening.
I think Jim Gaffigan put it best: It's like the behavior of a drunk man. Take these lights and put them outside in the yard, then chop down that tree and put it in here.....
I think it is absolutely adorable that Jun wanted to set up the tree. Like, I can't explain what that did to my heart. Lol. Christmas tends to lose its charm after a while, especially once you've grow up, and so many people stop feeling that joy and wonder that they felt when they were younger. It's just nice to see someone seem excited about something so simple as setting up a tiny Christmas tree. I have a four year old boy now so Christmas is exciting to me again now that I can see the wonder in his eyes as he helps me set up and decorate a tree (which I'd begun to see as little more than an exhausting chore). It's just... I dunno. I didn't mean to make this big long comment. I love spending time with people from other cultures here in the US because it's amazing to see them be interested in and get excited about traditions and things I've long taken for granted.
I am only seeing/reading this for the first time so a year late, but just wanted to say your comment was just right and not too long at all. I really like how you captured what I also felt, that sweet innocence Jun displayed at experiencing Christmas. Rachel was also clearly very happy for Jun too.
I agree. I love watching videos like this. Especially when it's couples experiencing each other's cultures. I've long felt ie Christmas was becoming more of a chore than anything, but seeing things like this helps bring back some of that wonder you felt as a child.
Jun speaks English so well and has such a good American accent that I forgot Japanese was his first language until he had a difficult time reading the cards
It's interesting seeing Jun's evolution in the videos. Most videos he doesn't seem interested (but as Rachel said it's just his "Japanese" nature) but the more videos I see the more expressive he gets. It seems he was so excited for his first official Christmas he just spoke Japanese the entire time but it's nice to see that he is opening up more in videos so we get to see more of his personality. Jun should do a video of his view on western culture and how he sees it if he hasn't done one, seeing someone else perspective on things is always interesting.
One time, I bought my cat a really amazing and comfy cat bed. I ordered it online so it came in a box. My cat totally ignored the bed and just slept in the box lol
+OreoClarity Yesss that's happened to me too!! Whenever my friends and family order things online, I always ask for the boxes to give my can and they think I'm crazy lol
you two are so cute. jun is so polite and quiet and rachel is so sweet and loveable. you two seem like you really have a lot of respect for each other.
Merry Christmas, everyone!! :D :D :D And Happy Holidays, happy everything to everyone! And if you don't want to celebrate anything... happy day to you! ヽ(^ ▽ ^)ノ
It made me want to cry to see you both with your small tree. I don't like christmas here because of family relations, but I hope I can spend christmas with friends or somewhere else with a S.O. one day and get small presents and enjoy the holiday too
I teared up because I saw them so happy enjoying their time together and treating themselves with respect and I wish in some future I will have my own family or friends with whom I can feel this way too.
Good job Jun for reading cursive. Sometimes it's hard to read. Merry Christmas, and good work Rachel's mom for sending the presents. My mom would do the exact same thing.
Its honestly great seeing a relationship where two people are constantly learning from each other while they're growing together. Wish there were more people like this. Keep making great content!
Yesss ! my girlfriend is canadian/german. When she speaks english her voice gets low and unclear and she starts to mumble and talkes reaally fast. But it sounds sooo cozy and warm and cute. Especially when she's sleepy. But in german her voice is clearer, higher and louder and she sounds soooo cute cause sometimes you can hear a little english accent and it's the cutest thing ever. And i'm just a german girl who learns japanese...

Just stumbled across your channel, you guys are so adorable!!! It must be hard to live far away from your family, Rachel. I am in the US with my husband while all my family are still in Malaysia. That's so great that you get to share Christmas morning with your family like that, brought tears to my eyes just watching!
Thank you!! Yeah, I miss my family a lot. I really wish I could visit them more, and I can't wait for the day that they can come visit me! I really want to show them around where I live now! :D I'm sorry you're apart from your family, too. Life can be kind of tough like this! >_
Oh my goodness, your mommy's beautiful package made me cry. So cute with the note, the tiny tree and all the love and warm fuzzies inside. Christmas is always in your heart no matter how far from home.
To answer Jun's question about quantity of presents, it really kind of depends on the financial stability of the family and the age of the recipient. The younger children generally end up with the most presesnts, and the grandparents end up with the least, but in America, the grandparents LOVE to give their grandchildren things. So in our family, our gift to my grandparents is to let them set up christmas, and plan everything, because that's their favorite part. Usually we give them fluffy blankets and slipper socks, while the parents get "relaxation baskets" full of nice soaps, perfumes, lotions and general pampering gear. As a teenager, I mostly get makeup, money, some books, and clothes, the occasional art supply and guitar accesories which is really nice because I hate buying clothes and makeup myself. Younger children get mostly toys, kid's art supplies and some clothing. every year the parent also coordinate one gift for everyone, like last year, we all got super nice sherpa blankets, and the year before, fluffy pajamas. So that's presents in my family, I don't know if richer families do it differently, but that's us.
In Finland, there are many charities that give christmas presents to kids who otherwise wouldn't get them, and food baskets with christmas foods for poor families. Everyone can participate and send these to the organizers. We did it this year with my family, it was really fun! Edit: Also, elder homes wish for christmas cards for their residents that might not get them from their relatives. The cards make them really happy!
@@raapyna8544 That sounds wonderful. In my city here in America the Salvation Army helps out with holidays. For Thanksgiving there's the turkey giveaway. You get a turkey and potatoes canned veggies and rolls and a variety of stuff. Last year we got a bag of apples and gallon of milk as well, so nice. For Christmas they do a Christmas bureau and families or individuals can go and receive a gift check good at a couple different grocery stores to get some food and families can choose gifts for their kids. Some really good stuff and for all ages up until about age 17. Really good selection too. I've lived in other towns and cities before but they don't do much to help others. The one I'm in now really takes care of their people. People here even help to feed and care for the homeless. It's wonderful when places like your country and a city like mine show such love and kindness by helping others so much. And I like be the idea of cards to elderly in homes. What a wonderful idea. I think I'll start doing that. And not just Christmas but anytime of the year. It must be nice for them to be able to get even just a little cheery note from someone and feel like maybe someone cares. Thank you for that idea.
I'm sorry but I can't stop staring at your cat. xD He looks so grumpy like "What are you doing human, stop, let me go.", but at the same time looks so fluffy. xD
Y'all are officially the cutest couple ever :) I love your videos, and a lot of the stuff you talk about will be useful when I go to Japan in a couple years (after I graduate. I'm only in 10th grade at the moment.)
Aww I know I'm watching this almost a year late but.. aww! I think I smiled the entire time I was watching this. Your family is the best Rachel! I'm glad you got to share american Christmas with Jun
Awww watching this video made me grin ridiculously the whole time haha, makes me a bit jealous! (In a good way, not in a mean way!) Merry Christmas to you both, Rachel and Jun!
I love how respectful Jun is. I know that's the Japanese culture but I love that. He didn't want to rip the gift wrap & when opening grandma & papas gifts he was grateful for the mittens, so sweet. Loved all your gifts especially the homemade cookies
I have just found you through Sharla's channel and watched a couple of your heartbreaking videos about being apart. Are you guys finally together for GOOD? I surely hope so. You seem so cute and compatible together. I almost had tears watching this video. Even the kitty is peaceful and content. Wishing you only the best.
Absolutely adorable!! I lived in Taiwan for 4 years and as a California girl I know how special having family send gifts was at Christmastime. There were no cut trees so we got a live one and planted it in our yard every year. Love you two!! 😍
Binging Rachel and Jun videos and I can't believe it's been so many years since I first found the channel. Seeing how they've both grown and changed makes me realize I've also changed over the years. I love this content and feel really thankful to have witnessed and shared this special moment in their lives.
there are two kinds of american families during christmas. those families who take turns opening presents, going very slowly and carefully. and those families where christmas is a free for all with everyone opening presents at once. wrapping paper is just flying everywhere, it is complete chaos. and it's just interesting watching this as a person coming from a christmas chaos family. because I am like jun, and I just really want to get in there and open presents.
omg can i just say jun was adorable in this? "can i tear it?" haha, this was such a heartwarming video and i'm glad he got to experience a christmas with you!!
such a sweet video. It made me so happy. I know what it is like to miss family. I love how thoughtful your family was and the way you shared your candy. Wishing you both the very best.
This is so cute these are real tears. I look up to you guys so much! It is my dream to live in Japan one day. Thank you for making so many informative and fun videos! Happy Holidays from the United States. :)
I love how jun always says "thank you very much" in Japanese with almost all the presents he opens. And jun is so confused how Christmas tree manners work! Adorable. Love you jun and Rachel! You two make me very happy when watching your videos :]
Hi Jun and Rachel! I discovered your channel recently and I'm now watching a bunch of your videos to help me calm my anxiety. It has been pretty bad, but your guys' humor and personality is really helping me feel better. So thank you!
That’s a good Mama! You treasure her Rachael. I lost mine a couple years ago to cancer and the only way you can come close to filling that empty hole in your heart after is with wonderful memories. All of you, love your mom. Tell her every day how much she means to you through even the smallest gesture. It’s how she knows she did her job right. Best wishes to everyone here :)
You guys never fail to brighten my day and allow me to have patience until I'm able to move to Japan. I want to live there so badly, and I'll be able to in about three years! Merry Christmas to you and Jun!! あなたは私はの日を明るくする!私は約3年後に日本に移ります!私わそこに友人がいる。メリークリスマス!
Your mom is so sweet! This was sweet to watch. I hope since this video Jun has celebrated 12 days leading up to Christmas, in the states, with a real big pine tree! He needs the full effect.
It's so adorable that Jun cooks, and even more adorable that your grandparents sent him kitchen stuff. The homemade cookies are great. Best thing ever when you're overseas and get food from home.
Hello Rachel & Jun! I was wondering, could you maybe one day do a video about Japanese body language and communication, please? I would love to study in Japan in 2 years, but I don't quite understand all the differences between eastern and western countries. I thought you guys were perfect for this, because you may (well.. probably) have noticed cultural differences in communication in your relationship! I know for instance it's rude to stare Japanese people in the eyes, so how do you communicate then? I would love to hear from you :)
you guys are so cute! seeing jun ask about Christmas ettiquite and Rachel explaining it and then talking to each other in different languages......it melts my hearttttttttttt
Aaaaaaargh, stop being so adorable! I'm not the sort of person who usually has this reaction, but you two (and your family!) are overloading my cuteness sensors ^^
Just found Rachel and Jun and damn you two are the most melt worthy heart warming couple ever. I'm defiantly giggling along and AGH. Yeah. You two are officially my feel good channel.
Lol it's late for me but I cracked up as you were spinning that tree and Jun was adding the ribbon. My daughter in law is from the U.K. and has me hooked on Mrs. Browns boys the Xmas episode has a huge tilting Xmas tree so they can get the garland on. I lmao all through it. She said it was even funnier watching me laughing and the expression on my face.
Of all the videos I've been binge watching today (started with a tumblr raving about the channel and linking the Crepe Suzette and Rescuing the World's Most Annoying Cat videos), THIS is the one where I learn Rachel loves dragons as much as I do!!! A dragon room sounds super awesome!
Hey Rachel and Jun!You didn't make a video about high school!Like the education, rules, how the school look like, what students usually do in class and stuff! I'm sure we all would be interested in knowing that! I highly recommend doing a video about that!^^
This is probably the cutest sweetest video I've seen in a long time. Even though it's not Christmas now, I am going to add this to my Christmas Eve videos to watch.
I've been binge watching your videos as I am a new follower and this video is by far my favorite video. Teaching Jun how to decorate the tree was adorable and I love the candidness of the video.
This video just made my Christmas! Due to my family situation my Christmas was pretty lonely and depressing, but watching you guys open the presents your family got for you, and seeing how happy you both were really made me feel like maybe Christmas isn't so bad after all, and that maybe i could have a good Christmas in the future as well, so thank you Rachel & Jun, and Merry Christmas! (=^-ω-^=)
Sending hugs to you from Scotland! I spent Xmas alone this year too (Alot of RL going on right now) I was pretty depressed for most of the day but after realising that I had more to drink because I didn't need to share I felt better! :P
Somehow after seeing Jun and Rachel getting happy over the grandmother’s homemade cookies, I kinda got jealous and cried a little bit remembering my previous Christmas. How is my childhood so empty?!? I’m soooo jealous..... I wish my Christmas is that nice.....
Sending you guys a Christmas tree, ornaments, and the gifts to put underneath it, so that you can still share in Christmas together is one of the most amazingly sweet things I have ever seen. That is Big Boss (Mom) status right there. Yes that is a video game reference lol.
Just found this video and loved it! My mom is gone now and she was just the same as your mom. She loved Christmas. I hope you cherish her. Also, kudos on multiple wrapping papers, it's a must. :)
Jun: *trying to tear it nicely*
Jun (really sweet and polite): Is it okay if I tear it?
Rachel: Yeah, that’s part of it
Jun:
ARGHHHHHAAHAJAJWNWNNW

+James Lynn I was looking for this comment!!!
+James Lynn it's easier to hear a language than to speak it so I can understand
That was possibly my favorite part of the video.
I also love that.. I like when they speak in their native language
Yeah it's usually much easier to understand a language than to speak it, my grandma speaks to me in turkish and I respond in french ^^
Jun: I thought we were opening the presents now?
Rachel: No! You have to put them under the tree first!
Jun: O_o
Me: ~suddenly realises how totally weird Christmas tree etiquette must be to other cultures~XD

Absolutely adorable!! I lived in Taiwan for 4 years and as a California girl I know how special having family send gifts was at Christmastime. There were no cut trees so we got a live one and planted it in our yard every year. Love you two!! 😍
It is so cool that one of you talks something in Japanese and the other one answer back in English.
Binging Rachel and Jun videos and I can't believe it's been so many years since I first found the channel. Seeing how they've both grown and changed makes me realize I've also changed over the years. I love this content and feel really thankful to have witnessed and shared this special moment in their lives.
I have never thought of the "steps" to decorate a tree, but this was really eye opening to consider a tradition I do, but never thought much about! 🎄
there are two kinds of american families during christmas. those families who take turns opening presents, going very slowly and carefully. and those families where christmas is a free for all with everyone opening presents at once. wrapping paper is just flying everywhere, it is complete chaos. and it's just interesting watching this as a person coming from a christmas chaos family. because I am like jun, and I just really want to get in there and open presents.
Me: aww what a cute couple
Also me: in bed alone at 1:00 A.M eating sushi
🙂
omg can i just say jun was adorable in this?
"can i tear it?" haha, this was such a heartwarming video and i'm glad he got to experience a christmas with you!!
such a sweet video. It made me so happy. I know what it is like to miss family. I love how thoughtful your family was and the way you shared your candy. Wishing you both the very best.
I'm surprised the cat sat in Jun's lap for so long and let him play with his paws haha
This is so cute these are real tears. I look up to you guys so much! It is my dream to live in Japan one day. Thank you for making so many informative and fun videos! Happy Holidays from the United States. :)
Kawaiiiiiii! Love and miss you both!
haha miss you Shane!! Hope we get to see some of your Christmas!
I love how jun always says "thank you very much" in Japanese with almost all the presents he opens. And jun is so confused how Christmas tree manners work! Adorable. Love you jun and Rachel! You two make me very happy when watching your videos :]
it's adorable how Jun is trying to read so hard :D
Jun and that cat are so adorable. And it’s super sweet that Rachel’s mom is still momming long distance. You guys make me so happy
I love how Juns face lit up when he opened the cookies
Hi Jun and Rachel! I discovered your channel recently and I'm now watching a bunch of your videos to help me calm my anxiety. It has been pretty bad, but your guys' humor and personality is really helping me feel better. So thank you!
Rachel's mom it's like best mom ever ;^;
0:50 That kitty was being so sweet and just licking Jun's hand😊
That “arigato okasa” made me cry
Your mom is so sweet! This was sweet to watch. I hope since this video Jun has celebrated 12 days leading up to Christmas, in the states, with a real big pine tree! He needs the full effect.
It's Ash and Misty after they got married Rachel & Jun
Nicasmitten ϟ No way, Ash & Misty are way more animated (in presentation/emotion)!
Nica Quiambao 😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱 you’re right!!!!!
Soooo cuttttttte. MY HWART!!
Seeing how she kept helping him with reading the letter was adorable 😭
Aaaaaaargh, stop being so adorable! I'm not the sort of person who usually has this reaction, but you two (and your family!) are overloading my cuteness sensors ^^
Jun is like somehow overwhelmed by this awww
This is the most precious thing on TH-cam. How he is discovering the beauty in her culture and connecting and loving it! Ugh so beautiful 💛
u guys are so sweet i cri ur relationship goals awwwwwww
this giving me the Christmas feels rn >.
Just found Rachel and Jun and damn you two are the most melt worthy heart warming couple ever. I'm defiantly giggling along and AGH. Yeah. You two are officially my feel good channel.
“You can have mine, too” JUN YOU ARE TOO PRECIOUS
So adorable! It's so sweet that your family sent you so many presents and the tiny christmas tree!
Even though it's not Christmas now, I am going to add this to my Christmas Eve videos to watch.
this is the purest most beautiful video ever. I'm gonna watch it whenever I'm sad
I've been binge watching your videos as I am a new follower and this video is by far my favorite video. Teaching Jun how to decorate the tree was adorable and I love the candidness of the video.
Oohh my goodness. I'm new to your channel and I'm already in love with you guys!
Awe a Charlie Brown tree!!! Jun is so happy he’s like a kid on Christmas. It’s cute to see him get so excited over his presents!!!
Also in my life. but dont forget: You make your christmas. Merry Christmas!
Sending hugs to you from Scotland!
I spent Xmas alone this year too (Alot of RL going on right now)
I was pretty depressed for most of the day but after realising that I had more to drink because I didn't need to share I felt better! :P
Though I don't know you and have a Merry Christmas! Hugs!
murillo marcio That is true indeed, merry Christmas to you too! :)
Shonnie Cairns Thank you
Somehow after seeing Jun and Rachel getting happy over the grandmother’s homemade cookies, I kinda got jealous and cried a little bit remembering my previous Christmas. How is my childhood so empty?!? I’m soooo jealous..... I wish my Christmas is that nice.....
Remember kids; always take care of your nuts!
Amen
AdmiralJuicy 😂😂😂
Sending you guys a Christmas tree, ornaments, and the gifts to put underneath it, so that you can still share in Christmas together is one of the most amazingly sweet things I have ever seen. That is Big Boss (Mom) status right there. Yes that is a video game reference lol.
i love that Jun speak in Japanese while Rachel in English but somehow they understand each others..
They both speak English and Japanese
Just found this video and loved it! My mom is gone now and she was just the same as your mom. She loved Christmas. I hope you cherish her. Also, kudos on multiple wrapping papers, it's a must. :)
Almost the entire time, I CAN'T keep my eyes off your pet cat!!! I want to do that to do the cat too!! XD The furs look so fluffyyyyy! ~
Such a sweet couple!!! I enjoyed watching how you converse with one another in your respective languages. I love the idea of a bilingual household.
