So it has been a year.... How did did school go, were you able to get hired as quickly as you thought and are you making the kind of money you expected right out of school?

Im about to start at MMI in Phoenix, got mostly passed the jitters during orientation because I’m a vet and got to meet a lot of other vets. But hearing your story (being someone who doesn’t know where to start on a Harley) really helps settle in. Thank you

Hay john thanks for the idea about MMI. You might think I'm nuts but I'm retiring soon at 57 and I'm looking for something else to do that I love. Motorcycles have been in my life for 43 years so maybe I can make a little pocket money but more than that do something I enjoy. I am wondering will I be to old for this? I never have been able to sit still.

You will be surprised at the age diversity at MMI. Young and old attend and to be really honest I found the older people was more of my crowd while going to MMI.

FORGET THE MMI YOU HAVE TO PAY LIKE $ 30K PLUS TOOLS AND THEN HOW YOU ARE GOING TO FIND A JOB WITHOUT EXPERIENCE ? GO TO THE COMMUNITY COLLEGE AND GET YOUR AIRCRAFT CERTIFICATE AND YOU WILL GET A BETTER JOB.

Big dirty thumbs up John. To be a mechanic years ago you just needed to be mechanically incline. The technology has create a job market were you have to go to school to learn any brand or manufacture and then stay on top of the latest updates. MMI sounds like it was a good choice for you. Your personality will probably take you to the sales floor just like in bar tending you’re a people person. Great Video For the school.

John you're the man ! Love your channel. I am not a professional motorcycle technician but I am a professional industrial maintenance mechanic. The pay is very good basically because there is a high demand for qualified technicians in this industry. I like my job but I love working on motorcycles. I have been doing major motorcycle work on the side for about 15 years now and have been considering opening my own shop . Is there possibly an advanced course for someone like me ?

Great, I like the encouragement to go to school and get certified.
    Best way to go.
I was an apprentice, I got sent to school as part of it. so I am time served and certified.
Good apprenticeship is hard to come by, here most require pre apprentice school.
A good school helps with placement.
Red seal or journeyman. You can find a good job.

I'm really looking to start the process of becoming a motorcycle mechanic. I just started riding in February of this year and finding a local mechanic to work on my 2005 Kawasaki Vulcan 800 is almost impossible. On top of that the nearest dealership/ service center is 4 to 6 weeks behind which tells me, in due time, there is a market for opening up shop in the future. I am looking at focusing on Suzuki, Honda, Kawasaki and Yamaha because it seems everybody nearby works on harleys and usually the first words out of their mouths are; nice bike, when are you going to buy a Harley! But outside of my MC life I just enjoy to ride and see a ton of "rice burners", so they need their upkeep and repairs also..... any info would be great

How often are females seen in this program? Were there any in your class? I understand motorcycles are generally more of a men's thing, and career female mechanics, I am sure are a far smaller segment of the riding populous. I just am curious if there is still a bias against female mechanics, especially with regards to getting hired after graduation. I wondered if you had any perspectives here, or knew any lady mechanics that may be able to shed some light on this subject for me.
