I'd like to recommend to you Dark Earth. It's an adventure pc game from 1997 (I promise to you I'm not recommending it out of blind nostalgia, I played it last year and never heard of it before). It's very clunky as it's played like a 90's survival horror with tank controls (keyboard only) and the combat is horrible (you'll be loading saves quite frequently). But besides that, it's a very interesting atmosphere too. A meteror inpacting planet earth caused it to be completely covered by clouds (which led to global anihilation and complete destruction of the environment). The few humans remaining live like in the medieval times in cities lit by very few sunrays. There's religion and nuclear monsters led by an intelligent leader, corruption and a coup d'etat. And it's one of those games that are short but the story is constantly reacting to your actions and there are several endings.

It's a very good game, It's a shame the uploader ended up not liking it. It's an RPG with an Immersive Sim twist (kinda like bioshock or prey) and it's the first game by Arkane Studios
Now THIS is what I call an RPG. God I wish they would remake this gem & release it on consoles (like how they’re doing to Witcher 1). This game is all about exploring, experimenting, and solving puzzles organically. I’d rather play this any day of the week over Skyrim (imo the most over rated ‘rpg’ ever made).

The history behind the "arx fatalis sequel" is interesting, I heard it from an interview with arkane. Long story short: they already did it, it was "Dark Messiah of Might and Magic". Long story actually being long: They wanted to make Arx Fatalis 2 but the first one didn't sell too many copies and they didn't have money so they pitched the idea to other studios. Bethesda was interested in the idea but needed to think about it. Ubisoft liked the idea upfront with a few changes, so Arkaned teamed up with Ubisoft. Ubisoft then told them they should make it about one of their IPs (Might and Magic, in this case) and that the game should be more action focused and so on. In the end they ended up releasing Dark Messiah, which is great but not so much an Arx Fatalis sequel. The sad part is that Bethesda actually contacted Arkane a week after the deal with ubisoft was settled to tell them that they'd thought about it and that if the deal was still available they would be interested in making Arx Fatalis 2 the way Arkane wanted. Arkane ended up not working with ubisoft ever again and have been a part of Bethesda since then.
I've never played this, but I will now. This atmosphere is right up my alley. Always looking for a new game that gives me a macabre sort of feeling, like that movie The Cell. Anything with that sort of uncanny valley type unease
Yup, the atmosphere here is chilly, and creepy. Although I might have to warn you, it's not an easy game to play. Boatloads of backtracking, and hunting for some well hidden quest items is a norm. Prepare for a creepy, and pretty stressful adventure. :D

I know this game is 21 years old, but what do you think the chances are of a sequel anyways? Like out of 100. 0 for impossible and 100 for guaranteed at some point.
About 5 or 10. Underworld Ascendant came out a few years ago, it was basically a sort of spiritual successor to both Ultima Underworld 1+2 and Arx Fatalis. And it was bad, horrible at times even. Didn't sell well. Arkane is busy making games for teens and casuals nowadays, with the Redfall and Deathloop. Seems like mature themes and serious games are not on their radar.
@@ErmacgerdLongplays Immersive sims don't usually sell very well and companies don't like wasting money. That being said, Redfall performed very poorly and Deathloop wasn't too much better either, so maybe they go back to catering to more mature audiences.
Here's hoping it actually happens, since Blade and Marvel definitely isn't my taste, and I dont think I'd call comic-based games that much mature-audiency, mass audiences more like. :D@@Linkale_
Yeah, I know, not the first time I've heard this here, but it was either exploit and make the game easier for myself (it definitely is not easy later on, it gets VERY hard), or just go raw and abandon 50% in the game after I get killed by any stronger enemy. Chose the "actually make the video" route. Perhaps one day I will stream Arx Fatalis on my Xbox 360, where I do the legit run. :D

My favorite game since 2002. I still play this game and I have to say it looks amazing in 4k. Right now I'm trying to get to level 10 witch is a hard task without killing the whole world of Arx 😂
Hmmm, are you 100% certain yoou've got the unsigned gems dealer license item, and before that you've gone to the big goblin guard who tells you about the license? It's been a while since I've played Arx Libertatis, maybe some newer update fokked some things up, no idea to be honest.
I wouldn't know one bit, since I don't have a steam deck, obviously. You might need to launch the Windows OS mode tho, and install Arx Libertatis. Not sure if windows is 100% required, but Arx Libertatis is for sure the way to go, its free on the net.
I have played this for years, just to be killed by the beast. I was hoping to see how you were able to get past the beast of killing it. I also noticed you missed allot of keys & spells.
Oh boi, that's the third time I've tried recording this game. I just wanted to be sure I can finish itm soooo I just speedran it , straight to the point, with no sidequests and without looking around much. Last boss fight is absolutely ridiculous difficulty-wise. :))
@@ErmacgerdLongplays It comes down to the kind of build you go for, mage builds in this game are exceedingly overpowered, I did a mage build the last time I recorded this game and Akbaa didn't stand a chance, the fight was pretty lame actually, I had dozens of potions prepared and used like 5.

That's probably because I couldn't find it myself, and so I just had to run around for 2-3 hours, and I paused the recording during this, and didn't unpause when I was on the right track. Sorry xD I plan on doing another longplay of Arx Fatalis, of the OG Xbox version, with almost no cuts involved, but that's for some other day. :D

I call that "taking shortcuts", so I actually get to the ending and finish the game in under 12 hours, which is youtube video limit, 1 minute over 12 hours and the video won't be accepted by YT. (╯ ͠° ͟ʖ ͡°)╯┻━┻
so I could actually finish this longplay, this was my third try, the other two runs I couldnt get past the demon boss fight, wrong build of the character. :D
From Software is the good variation in contrast of Arkane Studios. They are the same type of developers but Arkane abandoned what made them great while From evolved there skillset. Dark Souls, Bloodborne, Elden Ring are just variations of King's Field. Fromsoft never changed their design philosophy and rebelled when forced to which lead to the breakout game Demon's Souls which was just third person animations Kings Field. Arkane on the other hand is currently hijacked by the political and agenda driven and has abandoned what makes them. Current Arkane only has activist working for them with low entry level skills, and anybody with the skill and experience that didn't submit to what LGBTQ/Woke ideology they were pushing was probably fired or left, and that seems to have crippled the studio. I still think Arkane can bounce back, they have to solve the activist employee problem first. They can't afford to hire people based on diversity, that can't even hire regular coders, these immersive sims type games are complicated. Studio's like Arkane need specific people with certain taste and ambition working for them.

Dark Souls 1 had this for me. The feeling of an oppressive, hostile environment but interesting and full of secrets.
I had 5.1 channel surround sound system. And believe me music and effects of this game were so goood 😢 miss those days 😢 14:54

You can kill the beast with the lever in the Foundry room - it opens a lava pit. The lever must be activated by another lever in a nearby room

I call that "taking shortcuts", so I actually get to the ending and finish the game in under 12 hours, which is youtube video limit, 1 minute over 12 hours and the video won't be accepted by YT. (╯ ͠° ͟ʖ ͡°)╯┻━┻
oh no why did you activate the cheat at the start :-( now it's much less interesting to watch
so I could actually finish this longplay, this was my third try, the other two runs I couldnt get past the demon boss fight, wrong build of the character. :D

From Software is the good variation in contrast of Arkane Studios. They are the same type of developers but Arkane abandoned what made them great while From evolved there skillset. Dark Souls, Bloodborne, Elden Ring are just variations of King's Field. Fromsoft never changed their design philosophy and rebelled when forced to which lead to the breakout game Demon's Souls which was just third person animations Kings Field.
Arkane on the other hand is currently hijacked by the political and agenda driven and has abandoned what makes them. Current Arkane only has activist working for them with low entry level skills, and anybody with the skill and experience that didn't submit to what LGBTQ/Woke ideology they were pushing was probably fired or left, and that seems to have crippled the studio.
I still think Arkane can bounce back, they have to solve the activist employee problem first. They can't afford to hire people based on diversity, that can't even hire regular coders, these immersive sims type games are complicated. Studio's like Arkane need specific people with certain taste and ambition working for them.
