    And some of my colleagues and friends would also love to let you review their odd german cars like the "Opel Manta", "BMW M1", "Bitter CD", "Melkus RS1000" and of course the east-german "Trabant 601" and the WW2 "VW Kübelwagen"

      More importantly, the european fuel economy rating is completely different, absolutely unrealistic, you can only get that number if you drive 50 mph in the slipstream of a semi truck. The exact same engine would be EPA rated at something close to 30 MPG.

      Most likely (for a gas / petrol T-1.8L I4 w/probably 180bhp, or roughly the new Audi A3 sedán / saloon US-spec output) would be US-EPA rated at ~ 24/30 US-MPG (city / highway) and those would be a more realistic measure of what that RWD Rover 75 can achieve.
      In US spec only low-powered gas / petrol + electric hybrids (Prius anyone?) or < 150bhp turbodiesels can stand a chance at a 45+ US-MPG highway rating.

      Had an 820 for 3 years and found it handled like a boat compared to the SAAB 900 I swapped it for. Yes, I think the 75 is a far better car than the 800, but there are certain things I don't like about some of the interior trim, especially the door cards, why they use a nylon style fabric, and the material they used on the seats is rather thin, similar to my wife's 1988 Mini City, how long will it last? We will see unless we end up with a 2006 Jaguar XJ6/8 petrol engined car again.

This organisation was...somewhat less than reputable, (one of the directors installed software that was called "Evidence Eliminator" and that shockingly, a bunch of evidence showing where £42 million of employees pays and pension had gone to was...hold onto your butts...eliminated), and they also didn't have anything like the money that a volume car manufacturer needs.

    Avoid 1.8s they dont have enough water in them by design and you have to top them up to full or the gaskets go. The Rover 75 is a heavy car and low, it takes corners easily compared to many saloons. The Bmw engine is bullet proof 2.0l 2.5l, but 19mpg and diesel saloon and Tourer 50mpg. These cars go for absolute bargain prices now, yet drive as good or better than most other makes.

    The only car I could think of that we have here comparable would be the Mazda 626, luxurious enough for a luxury sedan, yet has sporty features all around, and is one of the few luxury cars with a manual.

    The 2nd gen Scorpio IS NOT a shortened version of the Panther platform. I know wikipedia says so but there is nothing that would indicate it is (starting with IRS in the rear instead of the Crown Vics solid rear axle, or the more obvious fact that Panthers are body-on-frame while all Scorpios are unibody). The Scorpio is based on the 1st gen Scorpio (still called Granada in the UK) which was based on the Sierra platform. Anything else is bs. The Scorpio's design has pretty much nothing in common with any generation Crown Vic either...

    Cracking car. I've owned 3 so far. Ride over a bumpy road cannot be beaten this side of S class Mercedes or Rolls Royce.
    Also the early cars used real wood on dash etc not plastic.
    You can get this car for under £500 in the UK now. Nothing comes close at that price.

    Mr Regular you should know 46mpg in UK gallons isn't equal to us MPG gallon! I'm guessing equal to about 39mpg us gallon without doing conversion.

      +Fargah1 One that I just checked said 37 US mpg. It is nice but not great. Many vehicles now can hit that highway but they are sluggish while this seemed somewhat peppy. Throw a 6 speed manual in many of the full size sedans in the US these days and you could pretty easily hit 40-45 highway if the drivers were smoother with the throttle and didn't mind short shifting. In my 5 speed 4.0L ford explorer from 1995 before they cared about fuel efficiency can get 30 mpg highway if it is the middle of the night and nobody makes me speed up or slow down. I average 24 highway. The old rating was 21 highway and new rating 20 highway. Give me a second overdrive gear and I could pretty reliably hit 27 or so mpg. My Honda insight daily driver averages at 44 mpg...

      manual doesnt give you more mpgs only compared to a 3 speed

    • @acephantom903
      @acephantom903 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Vulgora computers are much faster and more efficient shifting than a human but manuals can transfer 99% of the power from the flywheel to the transmission where as a modern torque converter can only transfer 80% of the power to the transmission. Much better than the old torque converters which would transfer 60% of power. The problem with automatic transmissions is that for the most part if they are 6-9 speeds, they refuse to go into those higher gears unless you are going a certain speed. The only specific example I can think of is the 9 speed in the Jeep renegades which are in many vehicles currently. To go from gear 7 to 8 is very rough because it isn't designed perfectly so to be able to get into gear 8 you have to be going about 90 mph which is not a legal speed in the United States. Until that speed, the computer will not shift into those top gears. The problem with going that fast is that you are burning more fuel than necessary. According to the EPA, going from 55 mph to 65 mph, you lose 20% of your efficiency and you lose another 5% going to 70 mph. If you go 90 mph you are losing up to 60% of your fuel efficiency which is where overdrive gears come into play to let you regain some of that loss. With the Jeep Renegade 5th gear is the straight through gear (1:1) and 6 and 7 are overdrive gears. Gear 6 and 7 ratios for the ZF 9HP transmission are as follows: 0.808:1 and 0.699:1. My single overdrive gear in my stick shift (gear box Mazda M5OD-R1) is 0.79:1. The Jeep renegade gets an EPA MPG of 30 mpg highway with a 2.4L engine in 7th gear. The 1995 Ford Explorer gets an EPA MPG of 20 mpg highway with a 4.0L engine in 5th gear. I said before that I can get 30 mph when alone on the highway going 65 and not 70 for a few hours but I don't usually get that luxury as I will drive speed limit when other vehicles are present to limit the amount of lane changing other vehicles need to make. I on average get 24 highway. Only 6 short of the EPA for the renegade which has 60% of the engine size. I firmly believe throwing a 6 speed manual with a 0.63:1 ratio on full sized sedans with 1.8L or 2.0L engines would allow those vehicles to regularly hit 40 mpg... you just sacrifice fuel efficiency in city driving... and most americans don't know how to drive stick so it would end up being a flop. I don't like that pretty much every stick vehicle you can buy in the United States these days is either a 20 year old vehicle, a commercial vehicle, or a sport vehicle. There are exceptions to this but they are hard to find.
