    A someone who has an s5 (2013) I saw the car at the beginning and thought "who did this to you, you poor baby?" I love my car, but that 4.2 is an amazing engine, and it is heartening to see you bring her back to health. Great job!

      Same thoughts as mine. I have owned a 4.2 S5 a few years ago, it is a good car really, and it has aged very well esthetically in my opinion.

    6000 pounds? For all that work? In Denmark it would have been at least twice that amount. Great work, where did you learn to work on complex engines like this. Crazy amount of knowledge. Thanks for sharing

      Hi,
      Thanks for watching , well Miroslav was working for Audi for a while , I learned the hard way. Bought myself a V8, possibly everything was wrong with it so that was my first and very expensive experience ... Since then we try to do them on a daily basis . For £ .... we can make a living out of it and some jobs are more tight with budget some are better.

    I own a 2009 S5 with the updated inlet manifold. Wonderful car if rather scary mechanically. I note on a couple of videos you mention using VCDS to diagnose the operation of the engine timing and solenoids. I would be really appreciate a video on how to use VCDS to indicate the state of the timing, and isolate potential issues, prior to having to remove the entire engine and gearbox for a visual investigation.

    I’ve had my 07 s4 forever, it’s at 198k. It was stolen in Ft. Lauderdale, hit in the back, hit in the side, front bumper pulled off on curb(wife) suv pulled across highway in front of us at 60+, truck hitch dropped on highway in front of us and broke trans case another time. Sat a year then 3 years waiting for me to repair. Total loss 3 times now. Other then being cursed it has been excellent mechanically, never let me down. Still clean keep it clean too. I have newer 3.0t s4s also, all modded and tuned.

    I had an A6 allroad 2.7 twin turbo. Didnt drive it much but what a car. When I sold it nobody wanted to give the time of day for it. Sadly Audi's are notorious for engine problems. And very high maintenance. Once they get a couple of years on their value is zilch. Needed a height level sensor and eventually got one from a garage selling an allroad for spares. Audi tips the proverbial tail out the chicken when it comes to spares prices. The Audi in this video would have been deemed too expensive to repair. I now have a Prado 120 with a Kzte 3 liter turbo engine that's done 220k on clock and runs like a sewing machine. Repairs dont cost an arm and a leg and able to do all myself. Busy repair/ replacing bolts that previous owner (supposedly a mechanic) butchered. Sadly have to pull parts out to get butchered bolts out. Had a brake booster motor pack up and had to take master cylinder out to have it repaired. Cost me about R600 and all good again. The above repair almost cost what my Prado cost me. Just reason it is it worth it in the end

    So glad I have my old b5 4.2 quattro. Timing belt at the front! So even I could replace it, none of these complex timing chains. I did replace the cam chain tensioners which cost me £1000 alone. Audi parts are not cheap, so the work in this video makes the car worthless to anyone else except the owner!

    • @odin5188
      @odin5188 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@anthonys3906 That's an oxymoronic statement.... If it's built will it will last surely.
      Can't really compare a corolla with an S5 now can you? 😬 Compare a 2008 RS4 or RS5 with a Lexus ISF then you'll know why most outside of Europe buy Toyota or Lexus.
      Don't know about you but i like driving my car rather than fixing it. Don't get me wrong love an RS just not the costs. My bro has a 2012 RS4, and i have a GS460 can you guess who's spent more?

    • @Irishluckily
      @Irishluckily 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@odin5188 I mean I get what you’re saying but there’s a level of driving enjoyment and refinement that Toyotas of all ranges don’t have. That is worth the extra maintenance

    • @odin5188
      @odin5188 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Irishluckily I'll say your wrong mate, you're comparing apples with oranges.
      You'll change your tune if you drove my 400bhp+ MR2 Turbo hobby car. It's 27 years old but this is real driving. Maybe a little too raw for most. Hence why I have the 460 as a daily car. 340bhp odd is fun enough and the refinement are perfect.
      I always say to my brother, as he's a German car nut. Audi and co always try to reinvent the wheel every iteration of car. Toyota prefer to refine and evolution. Both have their pros and cons.
      One pro in Toyota/Lexus favour, the car will last longer than 100k without major work.
      One pro for Audi etc, you get all fancy new toys and the car will be good for up to 5-8 years

I was not looking to clean at all just blow out some dirt that might of fallen into the ports,, I sprayed the dry air down the hole and the hole port and valve looked as good as new,,,, well worth a try,,, all the best jamie

    It seems Audi and others can't make chains last these days.
    Let me take you back to 2001 - 2005 era.
    Rover 75 using the BMW M47 engine.
    Admittedly it's a heavy diesel lump BUT the chain life on those is actually the life of the engine.
    (way above 500k miles in many cases)
    It's a shame they can't do this on big petrol V8's but then again they want things to fail to generate revenue and new models !

    Excellent video! I recently acquired a 2011 S5 with an APR supercharger. The car was in the middle of a clutch job and the prior owner lost interest. I bought it "as is" and will finish the clutch and bring the car back to daily driving status. I'm new to the Audi's so trying to get schooled-up as I'm sure they're more sophisticated than the Chevrolet's and Mazda's I'm accustomed to. I do have a question for you - Is it possible to start the engine with the transmission out of the car? I would like to hear it run before spending the money on the clutch parts. Thanks for a great video!

    Hi. I just sent in my 4.2 s5 to the shop for some overheating and shifting issue. Afte overheating slightly, it will only upshift after about 3/3.5k rpm. The guy says to replace thermostat and thermostat housing, would you think this is good enough? Is costing be a little over $1,000

    Can you explain what that special tool is that you used to remove troublesome Torx under angle?

    What tool is that you use as counter holder for the camshaft sprocket? The blue (looks like a oil filter removal tool).

    Is this the same 4.2 BVJ block that's in my old 2008 A6 S-Line daily driver, they look similar? She's nearing 155k miles and ive been wondering how much longer she's got left in her? Runs great, no issues but a minor oil leak in over 11 yrs of owning it. I did get the multiple cylinder misfire several years ago and ended up being one of the solenoids as well but that's it. I've a 2016 C7.5 A7 as well as my weekend driver...but just wondering when if I should be trying to get rid of the 08 for something, a little newer lol...... great channel by the way! you guys are awesome!

    Don't you guys have any aqua blast location that can clean the flaps and other sensitive things? Much better than sanding, doesn't fuck up with the geometry.

    Is this the same engine that was in the earlier S4's which had the timing chain issues? Or does this have a different engine code?

      @@VAGTechnic is there a difference in the timing chain guides?

      @@moonbabyking the original had plastic guides right down to where they mount to their pivots, so naturally they would snap.
