I ordered HelloFresh and upon tracking on my delivery day it said “undeliverable” . I talked to customer service and they had no idea where my box was . They gave me a refund and I cancelled . My order showed up the following day I’m unaware of the time but when I got home from work the box was soaked from the ice melting and all my meat was thawed out and the bags on top had been soaked through with water . This wasn’t my first time ordering HelloFresh as I’m a subscription member .
All precious deliveries were great and the cost versus buying groceries isn’t bad. The meals taste good and being able to keep the recipe cars for meals we liked to try again on our own was fun.

Very simple: have coated floors and have protocols in place that your mechanics are trained on for cleaning up after a mess is made. It's just like your house: clean up messes immediately rather than waiting for later and your house will look fairly clean all of the time.

I bought one of these in 2017, its a coupe 2010 S5 with a manual and I paid 17.500 €. Upgraded it with RS5 active spoiler and bumpers, also tuned to be like an RS5. 288.000 km now!!! Invested 3000€ on repairs in 140.000 km. Its very reliable! I also have the B8 2010 S4, and that V6, while only at 99.000 km, had 5000€ worth of repairs...

I bought a 2009 V8 S5 here in the UK for £8500 ( 10500 USD) in 2019 110000 miles fantastic condition, had it inspected, nothing needed doing, I just bought it, insured it, put fuel in it and drove it. Fantastic car, never missed a beat. Bargain of the century, half the price of a shabby RS5 but with a manual box, worth the lesser performance and lower revving engine for that manual box IMO. Put a cat back X pipe stainless exhaust on it with no mufflers or silencers, damn it was loud.

@@steveperyer4850 I’m not sure what terrain you would be using an S5 on in the US that you wouldn’t in the UK but yes 110000 miles would be considered quite high in the UK for a 10 year old car, even though actually it’s below average, people have a thing about cars over 100k🤷♂️ I buy on condition and service history rather than mileage.

Finally a Hoovie car I can relate too! I have a Manual 2012 S5 with the 4.2 and its been pretty reliable for the last 4 years (160k km). Clutch slave and a leaky HPFP o-ring were the only things to go wrong so far. Audi does state the trans/diff are lifetime fluids so of course you should change them every 100k km but aside from higher than average parts costs and carbon cleaning the intakes ($900) its been really fun to own and cheaper than my 3 series..
Good for you, that's a nice car. I got the A5 3.0 Tdi from 2008. Wanted the 2012 Generation too, but I was on a budget and got this. Very happy with it.
Once you get high mileage on your car, it's actually worse to change the trans oil, better to just be left as is
@@guccipucci69420 Thats usually only true if it hasn't been changed regularly and there is a risk of dislodging something. When properly maintained, no harm in doing fluid changes.
@@khurrumk Trans oil is designed to be changed 2-3 times in cars life. Yeah your service manual says every 100k but if you do that you can kiss goodbye every seal holding it together
@@guccipucci69420 Right, so 3 changes (every 100k km) puts me at 300k km which is beyond the life expectancy of the car anyway so id prefer to have a smooth shifting gearbox. German cars are not built to last nor is my expectation for this car to reach anywhere near 300k km without major work.

Old cars are worth it and fun it’s just part of the territory with older machines they need repairs
by. Is the point why they have depreciated in value.. any used car..you should do a complete tune up on so any used car should cost at least 500 bucks as you never trust the fluids.. and you have peace of mind that it is now fresh and good.
my friend bought a VERY nice B8 A4 (like 70 something thousand miles, one owner, immaculate shape other than some of the LEDs on the twilights being out) and they’re still such beautiful cars. His dad had a B8 S5 Cabrio and it was also beautiful, and very fast with the tune he had on it. This was the golden era of audi design.
the s5 vert with the supercharged v6 is a fun nice weather car especially with a tune or pulleys
There’s nothing golden about a timing chain located on the back of the engine
Loved when Audi went to this style when I was a teenager. They looked so elegant and understated compared to BMW at that time. Even now, the Audi line up from the late 2000s looks so good.
@@diablocls55 Its German luxury, You should know going in that these kinds of cars are going to burn a good sized hole in your wallet at some point if you do long term ownership, or you stay the fuck away from cheap and tired versions unless you have more than enough means to unfuck it. Goes for Porsche, Mercedes, BMW, Volkswagen and any AMG.
Relying on one of these that was bought fairly cheap as a regular use vehicle is stupid, but theres tons of young people that buy them as that for looks, then just let the maintenance slip because they cant afford to fix even little issues, let alone fix that Timing chain issues.
Had a similar problem shifting my 97 540s when I bought it. Flushed out the old oil and replaced with Royal Purple manual transmission fluid. It has been awesome, no problems for 18 years. Not affiliated in any way, but a satisfied customer.
Had all the same maintenance needed when I bought my v8 2009 manual s5 haha. Car is a blast tho, especially with a true dual straight piped exhaust!
I bought a 2018 Audi S5 with 5 miles and I've put on 90,000 miles in the past few years. With preventive maintenance, the car is actually quite reliable. Love to see a video like this detailing the B8 generation.
The b8.5 is far more reliable with the supercharged 3.0 than the older v8 in the b8 also thats not the engine from the r8 the b7 rs4 used that engine and put down 420 hp vs the 354hp in the s5

I owned 2 of these S5 V8 a few years ago when they were just slightly used cars, first the automatic then the manual. And they honestly were very reliable cars back then, even though I abused them pretty hard. Disappointingly slow compared to some awd hot hatches and very thirsty. But the A/S5 has imho aged beautifully.
I have a 2016 with the supercharged v6, dsg and sport diff and nobody has been able to run away from me in the mountains

Id never choose an audi with a naturally aspirated v8.. i always viewed them as the tuner cars of the german world, so Id rather drive an audi with a modded 2.0 so I dont get smoked with a slow gas guzzler.
@@Medal6 the sport diff kills the understeer. You just have to be aggressive on the gas and the car rotates. Feels like magic

I’ve owned a stock 2009 S5 manual the last 5 years. It’s been rock solid and the most visceral car I’ve ever owned. A German buddy of mine convinced me to buy it - this is one of the last natural V8 manuals. The end of an era. My wife loves driving it too. No carbon buildups - just rev her hard 😂

Absolutely love my 09 A5 3.2 S Line, bought it shortly after my dad picked up a '10 S5. Bought a one way plane ticket to Las Vegas and drove it back to Central Wisconsin the next day! These V8s sound incredible

I also have an '09 A5 3.2 manual that I drive daily. In September, I found a clean '09 S5 4.2 manual in black and couldn't help myself. Only 60K kms and full service history from original owner. Thing is I can't bring myself to sell the dang A5, it's just that good a car! The S5 will stay there inside till spring as she is THIRSTY even when just cruising around. Best sounding car I've ever owned though and got it at a decent price 👌🏼 see if you can swipe you dad's when he's ready to let it go!
I love my s5 4.2 so far very solid car and fun to drive with a stick. For the transmission they often have slave cylinder issues and it would make the transmission grind. For the check engine a carbon cleaning/ bad injectors are common problems aswell. I Hope to see more content with this car :)
Bad injetors or carb cleaning just put high octane 98 in it and that problen is solved :)

I had issues with the line between the master and slave cylinder on mine leaking. Otherwise a fantastic car though
Easy enough to clean the valves and change the oil filter housing gasket at the same time. The intake manifold is pretty easy to remove.

That thing looks great and sounds even better. I'd probably cough up the $4500...fingers crossed on the transmission.
These older German performance cars have to be a total labor of love. They’re great, when they’re working. And if you have the money to fix it, or the know how, you have a fantastic car for not a whole lot of cash. Is it more than it’s worth to the market? Sure. But if you fix this one, and can keep it for 3-4 years, you’ve got a hell of a ride for used Camry money.

I had a A6 C6 with a older version of this engine. Such a incredible sound.
How many miles? Any issues?
My colleague had one, but a spark plug electrode broke off, fell inside one of the cylinder, scored the coating on the cylinder wall and the engine got srapped.
@@RadostinVelchev That hurts. You can't even blame the car for it. The same thing happened with my '72 Ford pickup. It just damaged the exhaust valve a bit. I know...apples and oranges.

What a car that S5 was. So refined, special, and beautiful. I have never looked back at a car so many times after parking it and walking away. Pulls strong, sounds great, shockingly reliable across the 40+k miles I owned it.
I had my 08 S5 sorted out for 6K dollars at 120,000 miles and ever since then it’s been running smoothly with no issues. I’m at 205,550 miles and still zero complaints. I did have to do valve cover gaskets and a timing chain and clutch but that was 5 years ago and haven’t had an issues since

B8.5 S5 (V6) DCT owner. This whole platform, in looks hasn’t aged a bit (facelift, more so) and in practicality and reliability has stood the test of time. Amazing drivers car, minus the maintenance costs, but sure to become a favorite in the daily driver lineup.
I've got A5 with 3.0 TDI with manual as my daily. I didn't go for S5 since fuel is expensive af where I live and honestly the 3.0 pulls really well too especially in car like this. And it's also really reliable - I bought it with 160k kilometers on clock and now it has 380k.
It's got same wheels as yours, Arubian pearl blue color, cream leather interior (I paid one company to refurbish those seats so they look brand new) and silver front grille from RS5 (I really love how chromy and shiny it is).
Honestly 4500 doesn't seem bad when you paid 6900. After fixing it, it would make a fun car to take the family in and still be sporty. Or you can give it to me hahaha 😆 love the videos Hoovie keep em coming.

here's what my thought process would be: even after he puts some cash into fixing some of the cosmetics after the mechanicals are done, I'm betting he's $15k or less into the car. with a ninja stamp of approval attached he should get at least that back.
Considering that its an audi and one thats clearly been left to deteriorate, I'd say 4500 is actually a blessing. I have a feeling that price tag is also why the Audi is in the condition its in. Which is not bad for a near 10-14 year old performance version Audi.
i had an a5 3.0 tdi a couple of years ago and i absolutely loved it, same age too and the same wheels. Mine was the v6 turbo diesel with 240bhp, but mine was remapped to around 300-310. Cracking car, one of the best ive had yet.

Yeah, I said the same thing! It sucks to spend $4.5k to fix it but you're only in 12 racks for that sweet car!
Absolutely loved these cars when they first came out.
Only problem was, I didn't want the hassle of maintaining it, and I don't have access to anyone as proficient with those as the Ninja.

I had a similar transmission grinding problem on my 2013 S5. It turned out the self adjusting pressure plate in the clutch had failed and was not disengaging fully, resulting in a slight grind when shifting quickly.
I’ve have an 09 black S5 since 2016. Picked it up back then with only 32K miles for $24k. Still have it today and it’s only got 52K miles now. Easily one of the best weekend fun car for a good price cars you can get. Finding a really clean one can be difficult but they are out there.
I owned a B8 V8 S5 with a manual. same Magma red interior, Mythos black exterior. did a short shifter & muffler delete, and it sounded incredible. still miss that car. was a lot of fun to drive.

The oil filter housing "leak" may just be sloppy oil changes. When you unscrew the cap holding the filter element, you need to put a towel under it and give it some time to drain the oil in filter element. Otherwise, it runs down like that.
Also, I don't think that version V8 had the timing chain guide breaking issue. It was the V8 in the B6/B7 S4.
I'm a former B7 S4 DTM owner and current B8 S4 owner, FWIW.
I’ve owned two of these B8 S5s. Loved ‘em! Sport diff is a must IMO.
Now this is a beautiful car. Do it up well and it's a keeper

Aside from the timing chain issues that Audi 4.2 V8 is a gem of an engine. Definitely one of their best ever
I’ve had many of these, I’ve got an b7 s4, rs4, and a b8.5 s4. All are great with high miles, modded and not driven easy. The 4.2 has never let me down, valve cover gaskets a couple times, but it sounds great and does everything I ask. Power steer lines tend to need replaced at this age. Some of these problems are nothing to repair, suspension on these is cheap and easy.
I had a 2016 supercharged v6 version of this car and it was fantastic and after 70k miles it never gave me any issues
Oil leaks on german cars is a specialty. It is rustproofing itself on the go, seen it hundreds of times on all the german cars imaginable…

Old German luxury cars, are like a never ending source of content. But not a surprise they actually look affordable to maintain, comparing to some aging BEVs full of tech gimmick, that quickly become into lawn ornaments.
Lol. Old German luxury cars are not affordable to maintain. Even regular wear items, like brakes, fluids, filters and suspension components are very expensive. And that is before anything major starts to break...
Many of these cars are fantastic, so I wish it was different, but you have to spend a lot of money and a lot of time in the workshop to keep everything working after the 3 year lease they were designed for.
I mean thats a lot of deferred maintenance and with issues fixed that car will probably sell in the mid teens so in reality he would most likely brake even or make money on that car. Cant say the same thing about most bmws from that era.

These and the E92 3 series were designed perfectly. Very business but also sleek and refined. Such timeless designs. I’ve been thinking about buying an S4 or S5 with the 3.0 Supercharged engine, but I don’t know if I’m ready for that level of hooptie yet. I would check the CMC and slave cylinder for leaks for that notchy/grind issue and hopefully it isn’t the synchros or something. If the trans is good, honestly not a terrible bill to have that thing 100% sorted.
I love my A5 3.0TDI. I've had to replace the gearbox (launched it one too many times I guess) and a 2nd hand box cost nowhere near 2K to replace. Although maybe manual quattro gearboxes are rarer in the U.S.

Went from a 2014 A5 manual to an 2015 RS5 and absolutely adore it! That 4.2 in the S5 has so much potential. The RS models come with upgraded interior lighting, unless you get a lighting package. Which is the reason for the orange interior lights. However, I'm sure that v8 needs a carbon cleaning as well. Overall, great price and when properly maintained it is a comfort machine with a high revving heart. Would love to see the progress on this! 👌🏼
Just got another 08 S5 had to put a apr supercharger on it this time. This car I’ve always thought looks so good. Was one of the first cars I’ve seen that the rendering looked almost identical to the production model. Can’t wait to see more on this!

Redline lightweight shockproof for the trans. I know many many people who have used that in those Audis to help a crunching while shifting transmission. It’s prob the brass syncros wearing out.

For the headlight range control, go into the MMI settings and turn off the feature under exterior lighting that says something along the lines of “Headlight converter”. Near the bottom of the menu

Those wheels are something else, it’s hard to make something different that stands out that doesn’t look stupid, they did pretty well on this I’m surprised I’ve never seen these wheels before ever although I think I’ve seen a couple of these cars before in four-door variants
I have these and the same color paint on my 2011 A5, and they're even more stunning in person.
The wheels are stock S5 19" wheels. They are not the most common, but they are not rare either. The "twin five spoke" wheels might be more common.
try replacing the spring in the partition on the sunroof. mine jammed when i bought it, but after fixing it, it was fantastic!

/.5) that came after this generation were excellent too! I loved mine, never got over that sweet supercharger sounds.
I loved that engine I had it in an 09 A8. My misfire was bad injectors due to carbon build up. The magnesium intake has multiple valves in it so I suggest servicing that while it's at the Ninjas.
When I was a kid my parents bought one of these, black paint with a light interior, same wheels. I was lucky enough to to go to a private school where other kids would get dropped off in Bentleys and S class's but this was the car that got the looks. It was one of the first cars with led daytime running lights and a vivid memory I have is my Dad driving down Puerto banus by the harbour and people stopping and looking at this. I think at the time it was just something different and new. This generation of a5 body will always make me smile when I see one.
I have a 2004...bought it for 2K, put in a clutch and flywheel myself for $650, replaced ALL 8 control arms for $200. Knew enough to get one with the timing chains already done. Still have a bunch of lights on the dash, but it sounds and hussles just as much!

That's a nice looking S5 and the colour really suits the coupe shape. The red interior is also a nice contrast to the silver bodywork Not so sure about the exhaust, but you can't beat a manual Audi V8! $4,500 to bring it into good order seems like a good deal to me, & I look forward to the next instalment with great interest. 👍
One of the best sounding exhausts from back in the day.
I had a 2008 S5 6SP Manual. It was a beautiful car, but had major birth defects. Gen 1 direct injection is a recipe for a top end teardown for decarboning the valves every 10k miles. The throwout bearing in the clutch assembly has a design flaw where it wedges itself into the clutch fingers and won't release, so the clutch pedal sticks down. This causes premature clutch failure and it requires 24 hours of shop time to replace. You have to dissemble most of the undercarriage, suspension, etc. to even get to the clutch. You will have to basically give it away as the cost to fix these items is massive. I was quoted $8k at the dealership for clutch replacement, and $5500 at an independent shop. Decarbon service is $2-3K. Just nuts!! Sorry, will finish watching now. Pre-car ninja visit comments. I bet you have much the same issues.
The misfires are definitely carbon issues. I had a chunk of the carbon break off and destroy two of the catalytic converters.
Seeing these cars back in the day made me buy my 2019 s5, these cars don’t age!!
My aunt has a 2008 Audi S5 Quattro manual and loves it so much it’s a really great car to drive. I have brought it on many long trips it’s very comfortable.
I love manual transmissions. This is a very cool car. I hope Hoovie keeps it, and gets it fixed. It would be cool if Hoovie put some aftermarket parts on to improve the performance. Thanks.
i considered getting one of these a few years ago like 15k 80k miles, looked brand new, but everything was broken. a friend of mine was an audi tech at the time and was like yeah theyre sweet but you get the vw computers, wiring, and parts bin that keeps it too interesting to daily drive
Some vehicles are just not daily drivers after the warranty runs out. That or you have to play to play and just accept the repair costs to keep them in peak condition.
I owned a B8 S5 several years back. really reliable for me. I swapped the bulbs for LEDs but they are yellow from the factory
Folks never do the recommended maintenance, so everything wears out faster. Compounding issues really.
i had a 2007 A5 3.0 TDI in this colour with the 20" le mans wheels and loved it. The design is an absolute classic. Can do a few upgrades like put the rear lights from the facelift model on which makes it look a bit more modern looking and an RS5 grill makes the front look sharper but they're awesome cars.
Had an 08 in sprint blue and absolutely loved it. Wish I still had it but everytime I drove it had to go to the shop. Would still buy another tomorrow. Put a smile on my face everytime I drove it.

I love the v8 s5, i was scared of running into problems myself so i went to the dealer and went with the b8.5...

Had a 2nd Gen All Road that did the same thing with the upper lighting. Lower was all nice LED, upper was all that old fashion amber glow. I got to thinking about it one day on a drive and realized it was done because Germans over thinking things. So if you are driving with your interior lights on for whatever reason - the amber is easier on the eyes, more so at night. Where as the white LED (used on the lower half) wouldn't effect your line of sight as much when driving. So in typical German fashion, it's over thought out design but done for a reason.

@@draggy6544 thats the point, in good condition its worth mid teens, but classic Hooptie is buy a car that needs double its value in repairs!
@@TheNotimprezed average condition cars go from 13-16k good ones from about 15k to 20k
@@draggy6544 exactly right. He will be into this for $14k minimum to have it sorted, that transmission should be done, not bandaided and it will constantly be in need of a random $1k repair 2x/year. That just comes with the territory. I'm being cheeky when I say it needs double its value in repairs, but that would make it a true Hooptie! Cars like this are labors of love to keep on the road.

Rewatching this video after you convinced me to shop for and ultimately buy my 09 S5 in June of 2023. In fact I almost bid on yours on Cars and Bids but missed out. I paid more for mine with less initial issues than you did but, I had front suspension, oil filter housing and tires right out of the gate. 6mos later I had bad starter and motor mount. Do I regret buying mine? NOPE! even if the wife calls it my mid life money pit! This car is gorgeous and sounds great! I have a Milltek exhaust and the same AWE intake.

I just sold an Audi V8 with a manual. It was a fantastic and fun car, but everything that breaks is expensive and everything breaks. I bought it for $15k and in 2 years spent $37k, then sold it for $16k. THAT is the way of the Audi.

@@elnyoutube123 I spent about $14k in repairs and another $6k painting and ceramic coating it. Another $2k on doodads like a head unit and LED lights.
And the car still needed the timing chain guides done. It only had 100k miles on it, but it cost a lot to get there.
My son had one of these. It was certainly fun to drive. So fast and you can easily get into trouble on the interstate as you will find yourself doing well over 100 with no issues
I have the last model year V8 (2011) with 90.000km on it, now for over two years. Haven’t had a single problem with it, engine runs beautifully and I absolutely love it.
Done several mods like a proper exhaust, reverse camera, better speakers, and a new subwoofer. But what really makes it feel like a much newer car is the facelift flat bottom steering wheel, a 3D printed ashtray replacement for a wireless charger as well as a wireless CarPlay interface for the MMI system. And at least in Germany there are several sellers who you can buy selected OEM parts from, like Drive Select and Auto Hold buttons, Folding Mirrors, Garage door opener, ACC sensors, cameras etc, so if you don’t have all the options equipped you can retrofit everything.
Just get yourself one before more people realize and they get more expensive like the BMWs haha
