The camera is currently exposing the sky very well however faces, foreground and shaded areas are under exposed. Like here 15:58. I love the colour rendition, clarity, audio. I think you are on to a winner, with a like appropriate exposure compensation applied where needed. I do like the boosted vivid colours because for me they match your channel's style. Great purchase!
Thank you for your comments. Yes I agree the faces at the start were slightly underexposed. I assume that was because it was early morning and the rising sun was quite bright in the background. 👍
Great to see you getting an early start to sailing for this year. Looking forward to seeing this years travels! Though the coverage was pretty dark early on while under the cockpit cover.
Great quality with the new camera and no flickering when filming the boats digital displays. Perhaps you could give us an episode on your boats displays, what they display and what they can do? Thanks again for another interesting programme. Rob
I agree with David, I suspect the white balance is slightly off, but seems to clear as the video continues - try if there is an option to record in raw and colour grade in post …… best of luck and all the best for 24 👍⛵️
Thanks Darrel. You can't shoot RAW in video mode, I believe this is only available in photo mode? The settings I used were... 4K/25 with HDR On Dewarp FOV Horizon Lock Off WB: 5500K Colour Profile: Flat Sharpness: Medium Encoding: H.265 Bitrate: High David 👍
Luv your videos and the content, been following since Day 1 and ofcourse your original channel Routemaster4Hire. I'm about to start my world travelling this year to the North West Passage and Alaska in July, Japan in April and Singapore in November, so been looking at the Insta360 X3. So for me a great video and I think you've made my decision GoPro vs Insta360. Cheers ....
Sound could be better, personal radio mics next? Did you buy online or a camera shop where one can try out different ones. You would probably have had to travel to Birmingham, London or Manchester for a very good one. Not keeping a physical chart of your position as the electronics can crash. You would be up a creek without a paddle then.
Thanks Tony, purchased on-line. Understand your comments about physical charts, but I have 2 iPads and an iPhone all with Navionics, so I'm pretty well covered if the chartpoltter goes down.
@@sailingmadness Glad you have back up as attempting an accurate sun sighting on a very mobile small boat nigh on impossible, if it's actually visible at noon GMT. The direction of it at dawn/dusk and noon not so much a problem. All still a lot of educated guesswork. How they managed to arrive at a port only a few miles or so adrift 200 years ago was outstanding navigation.
Hi Kevin 😂 Only recently joined your channel and finding them very entertaining and informative. Especially on ditching the GoPro. I too have been an advocate of the GOPro since the 6 and have a number of them up to the 10 but the 10 is a disaster: overheating, using battery, loosing footage and the switching itself on and off. What is the camera like under water or fast movement? Also how long does the battery last. Thanks Dave keep up the good work hope to see you around as we have the same cruising area.
Hi there, thanks for your questions. So far I've not tested how long the battery lasts nor have I used it underwater - yet! I have seen some YT videos where the battery was tested and it did out-perform the GoPro endura battery. Typically I find a battery will more than last all day when the camera is used periodically when we are out sailing. Yes hopefully see you out there in the summer. Kevin 🤣🤣😜😜
Yes! Thank you! The settings I used were... 4K/25 with HDR On Dewarp FOV Horizon Lock Off WB: 5500K Colour Profile: Flat Sharpness: Medium Encoding: H.265 Bitrate: High David 👍

Thanks Rob. Yes good idea I will do a video on the new equipment soon. 👍
Much better clarity with your new camera. The low light footage is great. It sounds much easier for you to work with too.
Yes it much easier! Thank you 👍

Great episode, it would be great to talk to you about your plans for the summer. I'm on E leg so will pop in next time i'm around.
Yes would be great to meet you. Pop over next time you are at the marina.
Great video with some fantastic information on your new (Insta 360) camera. 👍
Thanks! 👍

Sounds like you have an exciting year of travel ahead 👍. Glad I was able to help with your camera decision.

Is there a custom white balance setting? Can you gray card it?
Thanks for that I may invest in one, as I say the go pro is no longer worth having. Take care
Nah, think the GoPro picture quality was way better! 🤪
