I bought a true 65 Deluxe Reverb in the late 80s from one of my brother's friends thst needed some quick cash . I offered him $100 but he refused and took $40 for it. Still a great little amp. I don't know if UPS is who those problems with the damaged guitars came from but I've had issues with them leaving guitars precariously balanced on the hand rail on my porche . Packages left on vehicles and some left at the foot of my steps on the rain. Even boxes with large dents in them. Thank God therecwas no damage. One guitar I may have even got from you if thats who you ship with. I filled complaints about the careless handling numerous times. I don't know if I have a new driver that delivers in my area but I haven't had any issues lately.
Your Marshall needs to be turned up really loud to obtain that classic Marshall crunch. My old Marshall Plexi has a measured output of 35W, it is crazy loud by the time the tubes start breaking up, that's just how it is. IMHO, your best bet would be either an attenuator or maybe a separate head amp with its speaker cabinet inside of an isolation box. Maybe collaborate with Robert Baker or some other Audio Pro to get the amp situation properly sorted out. I was going to recommend going all digital, but to be honest, the learning curve is pretty long and time isn't something you have a lot of. Its a shame about those damaged guitars, those shipping people have only one job, and yet they failed.
@hkguitar1984 Use a volume pedal so you can crank the master volume on your Marshall, or, do the EVH thing, and use a Variac to lower the voltage, but run the amp all the way up (89 volts was his sweet spot) 🤙
@@clarkbabin9799 Yeah, I am fortunate that we have a relationship with our UPS Driver (he has been delivering to our home for 13 years now). And while our delivery driver is very careful he is still only the last link in a very long chain of custody as the parcels make their was to and from. These days we live in, so many people care so little, its sometimes very disheartening.
I once had items delivered in a plastic bag with the original contents smashed flat and covered in tire marks. It had clearly been run over multiple times. I had one thing delivered totally destroyed from a drop. Ordered a bumper for my Jeep and it arrived totally dinged up and scratched up from being dropped multiple times.
I ordered a new bike last month that UPS did so much damage that the rear wheel was bent and the chain ring had to be replaced before I could even use it.
I went on a tour through our UPS hub when I had applied there. We were on the gangway above the conveyer when a 4” round steel bar careened down one belt and took out 3 boxes on the main belt. Buy local if you can.
1:35 that looks like a forklift did that. 💯 I’ve seen it and done something similar to a much more expensive piece of equipment at the refinery I was working at. No way to deny that one.
my guess is that the epiphones neck/headstock breaks are happening because the headstock is fixed in a slit in the box..so when dumped on the "back" the guitar only rests on the headstock and at the lower part of the body.....
Have a family member that retired from UPS. Advice from UPS internally was to pack so it can fall 8-10' onto concrete and not be damaged. They use a conveyor system in larger facilities that can be that high. I have had issues with UPS and FedEx and dealing with their insurance is always a pain. Hope the run of bad luck passes
Hopefully you noticed the loose bridge on the replacement Hetfield before you shipped it. With removing the strings and tuners, it was about to come off when you closed the case. Don't want that swimming around scratching the top during shipping.

My buddy worked for both major shipping companies and he always warned me to avoid "handle with care" because unfortunate it invites nefarious people to maybe NOT handle them with so much care. I believe I know what's going, in fact I'm pretty certain, but I'll keep it to myself. It's not only just with guitars obviously. In some of the UPS facilities you can have conveyor belts reaching three or four stories up. If something jams up the belt then stuff can go over the edge.
I had a beautiful Gibson 25/50 Les Paul from 1978 shipped from Wayne Gretzky Land in Canada to Los Angeles last November. The shipper, a music store, under-insured it by 90% ($10k CAD) via Canada Post to US Mail. Yikes!!!. The headstock had some binding cracked off and a pickup ring was split. Simple fix by a good luthier, The binding down the neck had cracks, but I think that is like finish checking on a 45 year old guitar. The guitar must have shipped neck down in the case for 2000-3000 miles. I asked for 2-3 day shipping, so it came by air, but was still banged around.
I like the purple on the new one more. Way less goofy looking. As for the broken one. Just ket a Luthier glue it back on if insurance lets you. Just a regular break. No problem there.
I had a left handed fiesta red AVRI 2 strat arrive with the neck pocket cracked down both sides and keyholed neck screws. Then had an amp arrive with the cabinet completely smashed. Now it’s something like a third of the stuff I order, music or otherwise, ends up damaged.
TIP: As a precaution, always detune your guitars before shipping or handling to avoid too much tension on the headstock and neck and especially during an air flight. High altitude air pressure is a usual culprit for snapping guitar necks. I once noticed the glass face popped off my wristwatch during a flight.
I worked at UPS for years, sorting packages off of a conveyor belt at a high rate of speed coming in belt wide, I read labels and sorted the packages into chute slides that lead to semi trailers. I’d get my ice water bottles ready, climb up to the belt, do my stretches, as buzzers went off, & the belt fired up and it was on! & I’d be just buried over my head with packages 2 minutes into my shift, covered with sweat with all my loads backed up, & I’d be stacking packages up over my head, to keep the belt running no matter what, as the loaders were buried into trailers by boxes, no one’s looking all to hard at any fragile handle with care stickers, I’ve saw a guy melt down who couldn’t keep up with the pace, and throw a hissy fit, stomping his foot through a box and shattering an antique grandfather clock vandalizing it totally out of pure rage and frustration, times may have changed but I’d sure never ship a guitar or anything treasured through UPS!…🫣
Interesting to see more of the dg335s breaking. We have one in the shop I work at that broke in the exact same way as the one in the photo here. Wonder what the exact issue with them is and if the second run of them will have the same problem.
Shipping damage is the worst heart break. I have a new gold top Les Paul coming this week from Sweetwater. I got a good deal from them. But it has to ride every nail biting mile from Ft. Wayne to Portland, Oregon.

Just from sweetwater/ guitar center i have had 11damaged guitars. All were replaced but ups/fedex damage so many guitars its sad!!! Out of my 20 i own 10 i had to get new ones kind of crazy to think about
I just can't bring myself to buy a guitar online. Even if a model is identical, there's something about the fact that guitars can have a feel to them that's unique. And considering the expense, I just can't make that gamble.
I have a 2022 ESP LTD Viper 1000 and 2023 EC 1000 purchased with ESP cases and I have to say ESP's cases are not very good, latches are very loose, come undone just moving the case.
Hopefully, this didn't jinx a 1993 Gibson Centennial Flying-V in All Gold I have coming in late April. The 100th Anniversary Explorer version in the huge rectangular case was super heavy (60 lbs) compared to a Gibson Les Paul. In general, I avoid shipping a fragile guitar in the middle of winter from a cold and snowy climate to LA, when temps at shipping warehouse can be below freezing. In the early 2000s, when large flat panel Plasma TVs started to be sold, many arrived cracked when shipping in the winter. Back then, these large TVs weighed over100 lbs and shipped in crates.
I got a Les Paul from eBay..I went home for lunch on delivery day and UPS showed up..I went out to meet him he slammed it down on it's end hard as I was reaching for it...... guitar was fine... not Happy though
Thankfully never had wood damage, but I did have bad pickups and wires come loose on things I’ve bought and just recently a semi-hollow guitar I sold had the tone control wire get rattled off in shipping. Sheesh. (Thankfully it was on a control plate and didn’t need to be fished around like on a 335.
I still wonder why the instruments that can have the neck removed aren't shipped in multiple pieces. I was worried getting a pair of jolana bass out of ukraine but they shipped with neck off in a much smaller box out of a literal warzone and showed up fine, meanwhile after trying to get a fender bass from fender and getting a handful of broken ones I gave up on fender.
Not sure if anyone commented on those pedals, but that Revv G3 is extremely versatile with the different aggression modes and cover everything from classic rock to fully saturated modern metal which would have done that Hetfield Baritone proud!
The Hetfield LTD could totally be fixed, and for an experienced luthier wouldn't be a problem. While no break is good, if you do suffer a headstock break, you want them long and crossgrain like that. It's the short engrain breaks that are a bit more of a pain to fix, mostly for alignment purposes. Scarf joining a new headstock or replacing the neck would be much more difficult. The finish repair is kinda a different ball game, it really depends on what type of lacquer it is. Poly is more durable but tougher to repair, Nitro is easier to touch up but more prone to witness lines/checking/etc. If that kind of repair is appropriate for that guitar, I don't know, really depends on the value/how much emotional investment there is. But purely from a repair standpoint, long breaks are better, and glue is stronger than wood.
I had two vintage and rare 70's Ibanez hollowbodies damaged in shipping late last year, one UPS, one FedEx. After months and thanks to the sellers keeping after insurance, we finally got paid out on those two, but I just decided to swear off shipping vintage hollow and semi-hollows at this point. The slide systems they use (talking to a friend who works in the facilities) just doesn't seem like it'll work with shipping fragile guitars, and seems specifically dangerous for hollow and semi-hollow guitars. Seems they impact too hard at the bottom of the slide and both of my examples were shipped by guys who ship a lot of vintage guitars, so both were packed well.
Did anyone read the "fish scale" thread on Gear Page a few months ago? Read the Reverb terms of service if you're in another country and shipping into the States or vice versa and yes including Canada.
My first DG had a nasty crack in the neck. Thankfully the seller got a replacement to me quickly. For whatever reason the replacement was packed no different than the 1st, but it ended up being pristine.
first two guitars i ever had shipped, and both were smashed. Two weeks ago. There's nothing worse than being super excited and seeing it smashed! It's good to know that it's not normal. I was never going to have a guitar shipped again. The boxes were destroyed.
I bought an Ibanez PGM 90th HAM from Ebay some years ago and it was shipped within the States. Arrived with what looked like a bullet hole through one side of the case. Another Ibanez, again shipped within the States, arrived with the corner of the case crushed. I mean mangled so badly the case wouldn't shut any more. There's just no excuse for that. If you can't drive a forklift get TF off it. If you have to throw a parcel at any stage of the journey you're a f*ckwit. Many such cases. Sorry for your heartache @Trog. I would trust your packing 100%.
UPS and FedEx have sorting facilities that might only be 15 years old, but they're running at 200% capacity or higher. And they can't shut them down to increase capacity, so they literally buy property nearby and build new facilities. That LTD either got run over by a forklift or a very heavy package was dropped onto it. I'm going with forklift. Those facilities have conveyor systems with packages falling off and getting lost for a week, so kinds of horror stories. What a shame. I don't think there's any possible way you could've packaged that where it wouldn't have gotten destroyed.
I'm in Central Canada, I ordered a guitar from Sweetwater. When I received it the box was beat to crap. I called sweetwater and asked if I should open it or send it back. They told me to open it, they were confident in the packaging. I recorded it, just in case. The guitar was absolutely perfect. I watched my security footage on the front door, the delivery guy had tripped and fell on it going up the stairs. That being said, the amount of damage was definitely more then what had happened there, but just an idea of what happens to your stuff on the way lol.
That sucks, hope insurance takes care of it. And I hope I didn't jinx myself by watching this....waiting for a LP Custom from Edmonton Canada, almost 1,800 miles!!! Fingers crossed 🤞
Regarding the Epiphones, should compare the cases to their Gibson siblings. Perhaps they are not as deep, or the neck support is to shallow (or weak), therefore less protection being knocked around causing the headstocks to smash against the cases. Just a thought
This headstock can be easily repaired because the crack is with the grain, if it was across the grain (like 90% of the times with gibsons) it would be harder to fix it, usually needing some sort of reinforcement at the crack joint like a backstrap or splines.
It would be cool to see a tutorial on How to set up a Guitar and what products you use. Fret Conditioner, Polish and cleaner? "Just a thought in Time." Yup! I pulled the trigger and just purchased this puppy. found a new one. I am a real lousy guitar player. But I love guitars and I love watching you Trogly. Thanks as always for sharing.
That esp headstock would be quite easy to fix as its nice and clean and a large gluing area! Masking the break would be easy as its a solid black finish!
i recently had the same damage to my case after shipping that your snakebyte did. somehow snapped the neck pickup off. UPS and Fedex are awful these days
in the past 20 years ive bought maybe 20 guitars and shipped problably the same amount. been lucky i guess never has one damaged. sorry for your problems.
THAT SUCKS! IMO the box with the ESP in it was dropped headstock end first from a good height the interior padding slid in the case and that is why your seeing a gap, the head stock hit the inside of the case first when the interior of the case let go from the sides and bottom of the case. It might be wise to add some sort of ridged foam brace on each side of the neck/headstock area so if it happens again the interior of the case won't separate from the outer part of the case. The rigid foam will not let it all slide and protect the headstock and probably keep the glue from letting go on the padding. Of course I would be pissed if a guitar got broken in shipping. UPS trashed a Neal Moser Guitar I got from GC. I knew something was wrong when it seemed the package never got delivered sent back to FL and back to me again via TX. When I got it finally I opened the pretty beat up box and was happy to see their wild and huge headstock was still attached unfortunately it was a V shaped guitar and both points on the V were trashed. Obviously dropped body end from a good height. UPS paid me for it and let me keep it and I had it repaired by a professional. Truthfully I could have done the job myself. I wouldn't have an issue fixing that headstock. I would clean up the break a little dowel it and glue it back it would be playable but hiding the repair would need more work.
Loved the amps more than anything else in this one. Especially that tweed deluxe. I have the 68 custom silverface and love it, but I wouldn't mind one of the 65 blackface ones, too! Just not made out of money given what Fender wants for those amps. A hardwired 64, though, that's the cream of the crop right there!
This seems to me like an opportunity to build a better guitar case! You'd have to have supports from the inside bottom coming up and when you close the case, they touch the inside of the top so there's less chance of getting smushed. Hmmm.....
6:45 .. Hassles? .. INDEED! .. More like nightmare. I BOYCOTTED UPS LONG AGO. Fully insured .. Mesa MK 2c++ @ 10k USD. Lost a 1965 ES -335 destroyed by UPS and two more vintage Martins that were signature required that they left on my front porch and were stolen... Never used them again...
In the last 2 months I had a new Fender Aerodyne shipped from Fender damaged, returned without a problem. I had $220 Jackson Monarkh from Reverb damaged, they gave me $125 back. My third try with ProAudio I paid for overnight for a Charvel, hoping that overnight had less hands touching it along the way and it showed up fine.
Spoke w/my Sweetwater rep and the waiting list for the Dave Grohl signature is over 1,000 (possibly 2,000) deep! That's going to take some time to replace.
@@MuscleCarLover I had an Eclipse with a poor break repair I got for $100. The volute held, and the break went further down, under the fretboard. Level crown & polish got it going, friend used it for a stage guitar. It had dual hardwired EMG 81s & I let him keep it, wasn't worth much & 81s are a niche sound for me, unnecessary after getting a guitar with a Fluence Modern.

I have a 2022 ESP LTD Viper 1000 and 2023 EC 1000 purchased with ESP cases and I have to say ESP's cases are not very good, latches are very loose, come undone just moving the case.
Why not ship guitars without string tension?
Well all the Limited Edition Purple Baritone Snakebytes just increased in value only 499 left.
UPS takes shredding to 11.
That’s why I pronounce UPS “Oops”! They are notorious for breakage….. Fed Ex always, express saver is better than ground 👍🏻
Where is the Mod shop recap ?
No new offerings last week
Just got an epi dg335 shipped with fedex and there's a crack at the nut running up neck on both sides about 2 inches. Bummed to say the least...
How long do you wait to open up a shipped guitar? I usually wait all day or if a late delivery, then next day….
I ordered a Geochron very expensive clock and when I received it UPS delivered it. And the glass was in a million pieces. Terrible (((
Piece of mind - priceless
*peace...sound like Biff when you say it wrong
Epiphone headstocks snapping. Epiphone are going all in with the whole "inspired by Gibson" thing, it seems.
I remember stumbling across that listing for the LTD with all the pedals.
Bro that snakebyte is a horrible color. I absolutely wouldn't want it.
Might be an interesting headless conversion, I think if you could clean up the volute area it would look pretty solid.
Whats going one w/Gibson Mod Shop and the Gibson Reverb shop? Shutting down?
Are they shipped with the strings slackened off to remove the stress on the neck?
Clean up some of the loose fibres and it'll glue together fine.
That esp headstock would be quite easy to fix as its nice and clean and a large gluing area! Masking the break would be easy as its a solid black finish!
Wow. So sorry all of that happened.. Hope the insurance comes through. Peace
I just ordered the new epiphone inspired by Gibson custom shop les paul custom from Sweetwater, should I be worried?
i recently had the same damage to my case after shipping that your snakebyte did. somehow snapped the neck pickup off. UPS and Fedex are awful these days
Honestly, these shipping companies beat the heck out of the packages sometimes. I've seen people throw these guitars into the truck.
in the past 20 years ive bought maybe 20 guitars and shipped problably the same amount. been lucky i guess never has one damaged. sorry for your problems.
I noticed. what looked l ike some lines on my Dave Grohl in that same spot. the box it came in was pretty beat up, but the case was in. perfect shape.
Not a fan of that guitar or hetfeild....but it still breaks my heart to see a guitar in that state 😢
You don't like Jimmy Hertfield? 😂 Honestly, he's a doosh
Any chance the blues breaker is for sale?
This seems to me like an opportunity to build a better guitar case! You'd have to have supports from the inside bottom coming up and when you close the case, they touch the inside of the top so there's less chance of getting smushed. Hmmm.....
I'm in Cincinnati, Ohio. I have a finder champion 100 W amp. With the pedal for 200.
Epiphone getting more authentic by the year.
About that Fender Deluxe Reverb: Those old-style spring reverb tanks are hard to beat!
You're a good kid caring to get an ESP replacement.
Ugh i have a brand new TVL jazzmaster coming on thursday. Im really praying i have no headaches. Ive had so many horror stories with guitar shipping.
6:45 .. Hassles? .. INDEED! .. More like nightmare.
I BOYCOTTED UPS LONG AGO.
Fully insured .. Mesa MK 2c++ @ 10k USD.
THEY destroyed it, then systematically screwed me around for months, only to leave me with nothing but frustration and a waste of my time.
YOU can't even SPEAK with a CLAIMS agent, ONLY EMAIL.
I hope you have insurance on the guitars to get your money looks like the case and the felt has been cut with a stanley knife
At least you can salvage the pickups and hardware. Those EMG's aren't cheap on their own.
"things" are getting worse.....everywhere......when folk get paid the same money for staying at home rather than "work" this is what happens.
I love that paisley deluxe!
How do you like the Red Rox?
3:45 Sun bleaching. Blue, red or purple especially sensitive to UV rays.
I was told by the internet that only Gibson headstocks break & volutes are magic, though, how can this be?
Hahahahaha right?!!! It’s always only Gibsons!!!
There's a reason they removed the volute other than customer complaints, it wasn't the saviour they thought it was, it'll just snap next to it instead
@@MuscleCarLover yes there is…. Money
@@mertmunson1417 It wouldn't have changed much in that regard
@@MuscleCarLover I had an Eclipse with a poor break repair I got for $100.
The volute held, and the break went further down, under the fretboard.
Level crown & polish got it going, friend used it for a stage guitar. It had dual hardwired EMG 81s & I let him keep it, wasn't worth much & 81s are a niche sound for me, unnecessary after getting a guitar with a Fluence Modern.
