    Another way to clean out the inside of the gourd, dump a handful of gravel into the gourd and swirl it around.

The only question I have is how does one keep the bottles clean & dry on the inside after use? Because wax is used to protect it, would hot or even warm water washes wear the protective waxing down?

    Don't get me wrong I am all for doing something yourself and saving the money.
    But ask yourself this.
    How long did that take you?
    I think it's wrong to say they are trying to sucker you out of your money for a $60 dollar gourd bottle. You are paying for Labor not components. That pretty obvious isn't it?
    I have made gourd bottles, they absolutely take time to make if you are making them "artisan" for quality looks and not simply function.

    • @backwoodstech1972
      @backwoodstech1972  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would agree if it was an artisan type bottle .However a simple bottle takes but a few minutes to make and an adds a new skill. In the area I live most people will give you a gourd for the asking I have found that when people make things for themselves it is more valuable to them than the thing they bought

      @@backwoodstech1972 I don't disagree at all with that but it does still take some time to fiddle and get all that fluff out properly otherwise it will begin to rot. I wouldn't say it takes minutes, the fastest I have done it was half an hour.

    • @backwoodstech1972

    • @backwoodstech1972
      @backwoodstech1972  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You can get them from walmart, lowes, home depot, or online .You can also get them for free if you know somebody who grows them. No a squash will not work because as a gourd dries it becomes wooden. A squash will rot

    Some suggestions:
    Don’t sand the outside of the gourd. Use water and a metal scouring pad. Much better results than sanding.
    Coat hanger or gravel pretty ineffective ways to clean the inside. Try them and then cut the gourd open to make a bowel, you’ll see. Figure out a way to scrape the inside walls for better results.
    The dust from the inside of the gourd as it is cleaned can be toxic to many people. Wear a dust mask. If you choose not to wear a mask and get horribly clogged sinus for a few days, guess where it came from?
    You think $60 is expensive for a gourd canteen? Add up the time someone spent making it and it’s unlikely anyone is getting rich.
