      Hey mate…..love love your video. Keep up the great work.
      Question for you though….aren’t you afraid of types of snakes in your garden?
      I don’t mind them,but walking or placing your hands into the garden.

    Kia ora Kalem. Ka mau te wehi e hoa. Well done you! How awesome is that gourd lamp. Another nice gourd project is creating Taonga Puoro known as Hue. Taonga Puoro is Maori for musical instruments and Hue is the Maori word for gourd.
    The dried gourd can be cleaned as you did and then simply saw the top off at the best point to make an instrument sounded by blowing over the hole at the correct angle.
    Some Hue give an amazingly super deep bass sound and a collection of the right sized Hue can make up a little orchestra. Some tiny Hue are played by blowing over the hole
    using one nostril while holding the other nostril closed with a finger. The seeds that were removed or tiny pebbles can be put into the Hue to make a shaker.
    There's an excellent book by Brian Flintoff - 'Taongo Puoro' with more information. By the way, Asian Dogwoods or Cornus kousa have a delicious tropical tasting custard fleshed fruit.

    That was awesome! If you want a bit of variation, try drilling ALMOST through but leaving a thin layer so the light glows and is soft, rather than shining bright. I bought several of these from an incredible artist in Lithuania and this is the first time I actually saw how he does it. HIs designs are very intricate and there's almost as many diffused holes as there are ones he drilled all the way through. Gourds done like this crate such an incredibly magical atmosphere at night. Well done!

    The first thing I thought when I saw those gourds was slicing them in rings, so many possibilities for abstract art, sculpture, windchimes or even puzzles and toys.

    Hi Kalem, thanks for this fascinating video on creating a lamp out of a Bottle Gourd. It was a very creative design that you built that really came to life when it was lite up with the electric bulb. I was wondering how it was all going to come together but I think it came out really great. One thing that really amazes me is that the Bottle Gourd dries out so much on the skin and the seeds as well. Most Gourds would rot and decay and turn to mush and that dries so hard and keeps it's shape. It seems like there was a little smoke escaping from the holes in the darkness so you probably could just keep it on for a short period of time.

    • @TheKiwiGrower
      @TheKiwiGrower  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Hi Ben, yeah it’s pretty cool that they basically turn to wood.
      That wasn’t smoke by the way, it was steam from an aromatherapy vaporiser. I just wanted to showcase the lamp with the vapor lighting up cause it looked cool :)
