  • Salutations, Ladies and Gentlemen! Today, I'll be discussing an excellent traditional knife from Sicily!
This knife is from Michele Fraraccio, a rather enigmatic brand with little reading material available on them. Regardless, this is my second knife from Fraraccio and unlike the first, this piece impressed me, greatly.
This model is known as the "Caccamo Manico", (Caccamo Handle) which refers to a Sicilian town by the same name. This is a fairly elusive pattern of knife, thus there is little information on the design. (That I could find) I suspect that a knife such as the Caccamo originated in the early to mid 1800s, although my knowledge regarding this knife is quite lacking, so I would very much appreciate any further insight on the piece.
    Caccamo:
Stainless steel (Spearpoint) blade. (with half-stops)
    Steel liners, pins and spring.
    Olive wood handles.
Overall, this is a great user knife, especially for it's traditional craftsmanship and affordable cost!

Italian knife nut here, with a couple of notes.
(I thought I already posted this a couple of day ago but can't see my comment: it might have been eliminated by YT since it included a link, so I'm now adding it in a separate comment.)
Fraraccio is actually quite old, dating back to 1868*. It is based in Frosolone, one of Italy's three knife manufacturing centers (with another one being, you guessed it, Maniago).
The name of the knife is just Caccamo, like it says on the knife balde. Manico, like you mentioned, means "manico", as in "handle in olive wood". I would guess that they simply forgot to translate it on the website where you placed your order...
Lastly, this pattern is commonly found with a brass handle, often decorated. In its original form, it originated as an "offense" knife for stabbing.
    Enjoy your knife!

Many thanks for the comment! I'm rather ignorant regarding regional knives from around the world, so I appreciate the insight.
I attempted to do some research prior to the video, but came up with very little material. I tried finding Fraraccio's website, but seemed incapable of locating it! This helps shed some light on a knife I otherwise knew little about. You've more than earned a pin, my friend! 😁
      Cheers!

@@TheKnifeRaven You are very welcome, always a pleasure to help out a fellow collector!
I tried posting a link with additional info on the brand's history, but it seem to keep getting deleted...
As for their website, try googling coltellidelmolise.

As for their website, try searching for coltellidelmolise. Not much info there, but they do have their catalogue available.

I like the looks of this one. Real old world charm, IMO. That sunken backspring does look a bit odd to me, but I'd still carry that one any day! Cheers, buddy!

Kind of knife I would have bought back in the day, since the knife laws changed it is not legal to carry in public, I have read the legal definition of said law and it contradicts itself, in one part it says blade must have no more than three inches of sharpened blade but in another part it says overall blade should be under three inches, you can guess which part the Police use. I expect with all the knife crimes around the country new laws will come in again soon. Good revue and Olive wood can be spectacular or rather boring. 😁

UK knife laws really are ridiculous!
      Thanks for watching, Lewis. 😊
