  • Salutations, Ladies and Gentlemen! Today, I'll be discussing a pair of beautiful jack-knives by Arthur Wright & Son of Sheffield.
Back in December, we ordered a knife for my Father that subsequently got lost in the mail. The seller, (who is an absolute Gent, by the way) sent us a replacement just over a week ago. Miraculously, the new knife arrived on exactly the same day as the one that had gotten lost in the post! We eventually decided to just pay for the two knives instead of having to ship one back, thus resulting in my Father now having two (nearly) identical knives. The knives in question are A. Wright (Farmer's) Sheep(s)foots in Ebony wood. This brings my Dad's Sheepfoot collection up to three, and I now fear he may desire more! 'Tis concerning, as having one collector in the family is bad enough, but two?! 😅
Regardless, the knives were excellent, especially for the price. I must say, Wright's been on a steady upward climb for a while now, and I sincerely hope that can continue!
    Farmer's Sheepfoot:
C70 carbon steel (Sheepfoot) blade and spring. Brass liners and pins. Nickel-silver bolsters. Ebony wood handles. 8-9/9-10 on the level of pull...these are really snappy!
Overall, the quality-to-price ratio is outstanding, as usual. A. Wright may very well become the go-to Sheffield knifemaker for those desiring quality at a fair cost.

Thank you for your loyalty and patience the old country needs all the help we can get .What with royal mail not to mention our illustrious Royal male Harry and the deep state trying to destroy our glorious heritage traditions like Sheffield knife makers deserve our support .I note you have 777 subscribers a good number.

As someone with ancestry leading back to 'The Old Country', I have tried my best to showcase what these traditional makers are capable of. I understand Sheffield's relevance has begun to fade, but I have tried (and will continue to try) my best to ensure the history and artistry of Sheffield lives on.
Also, yes, 777 is quite the special milestone for me, indeed!
      Cheers, as always!

😂🤣 "I've turned my Dad in to a knife collector"....brilliant.
Enjoyed the video mate. They have improved immensely after the Harrisons bought them. I remember Slick doing that video. I'm missing his videos. He's not put anything out in a while. Speak to you soon

Such is the progression of constantly finding reasons to gift knives to family members! 😅
I've still been wanting an A. Harrison custom, but considering he does a lot of the work for the normal Wright knives, I've probably already experienced his work! But overall, the newer production after the Harrisons is really impressive.
Slick's last video was on that pretty G. Wostenholm, but nothing after that. (That I've seen)
Also, I saw your 'MOP' video...you've got an outstanding collection! 😊
      Thanks for stopping by.
      Cheers, as always!

Lovely knives, thank you for showing us these,, 👌 don't get me started on the Royal Mail performance,, 😱😱
I'm still on my hiatus, but I'm compiling a list, for the future, 🤞,,
ps, my Ergonomic is now perfect, after "massaging") the pins, and bolster transitions, with very fine steel wool soaked in Ballistol,, and as a bonus it smells nice too,,😂 all the best from across the pond my friend,, 😊

      Hey, John!
      I take it The Royal Mail's track-record isn't too spectacular? 😄
As for the hiatus, I completely understand it. I've gone on one, myself, after this last HH order. It's a little sad, but it's probably for the best in the longrun.
As for your Ergonomic...I'm so happy to hear you've 'fixed' it! Oil and steel wool solve a multitude of problems.
      Cheers, as always!

I prefer Lambsfoot to Sheepsfoot I have been waiting to pick up the Lambsfoot in Buffalo covers but every time I check they are out of stock, thank you again for showcasing a Sheffield maker and it is good to see quality knives being produced in UK again after all Sheffield was the cutlery capitol of the world, with a nod to Solingen of course. 😁

The Buffalo Lambsfoots are really rare! Good luck, and I hope you can acquire one.
As for A. Wright, I think they're doing an amazing job as a whole. The quality is excellent for the price.
I have high hopes for the future of Sheffield knifemaking.
      Cheers, as always!

My last 2 AW purchases direct from AW have been a Spearpoint in ebony and a Senator with oak covers, both have been perfectly centered and both have been reasonably sharp, definitely sharper than they used to be for sure! No gaps worth mentioning. The spearpoint had a similar wood grain to yours on the show side and inky black on the reverse. Very much satisfied with the 2 of them!

That's delightful to hear! I'm really hoping Wright's continues with this upward climb.
Enjoy those knives, my friend, they sound lovely!

Love the wood on the original order knife.I must have a dozen Arthur Wright Knives and the one thing that gets to me is the cut off on the back spring is very rarely even close to square! Having said that they are excellent value for the price.

    • @TheKnifeRaven
      @TheKnifeRaven  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

The wood on both is beautiful, but the original is just...something else.
The backsprings on mine are almost always uneven, but I don't mind, terribly.
      Cheers, as always!

I'd have to side with the Lambsfoot, but I can see the appeal!

My 2nd lambs foot, in ebony wood as well, also leans a bit to the right. My newest was just about perfect.... and I gave it away.
The wood grain on mine is nice, but oh man, yours is sweet!!

I got the newest one earlier last year. It was a rose wood. I gave to away though after I got an older ebony wood as a gift, @@TheKnifeRaven

Like you, i prefer the Lambsfoot blade over the Sheepsfoot but having said that all three of these look nice. Especially the patterned ebony. There's enough difference between the ebony ones to warrant keeping both of them. I do have one in Rosewood but it tends to get overlooked which is a shame. I'll have to make the effort to carry it more.
On a side note, you made a video about the AW pruner and complained that it didn't have a nail nick then proceed to open the first knife in this vid by pinch pull when there was a nail nick to use.😂 What's going on?😂

    • @TheKnifeRaven
      @TheKnifeRaven  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Ah, but you see, when a nail-nick is featured on a knife with a tight action, it allows the users's thumb to sort of 'rest' in the cutout, thus giving a better grip to open! I suppose it's also a matter of not wanting to break your nails by putting them in the nick, considering the Sheepfoot springs are easy 9-10s! 😅
      Cheers, as always!
