  • Front stabilizer link replacement performed on a 2010 Subaru Impreza. These often make clanking noises when they begin to go bad. Sometimes the hardest thing is just removing them but overall it's a simple DIY repair.

    How did you know you needed one? I replaced the inner and outer tie rod ends, new tires with alignment and steering wheel still noticeably shakes at 70+ mph. Any feed back is appreciated!! Thx

    From the looks of the video you are doing this without any load on the suspension? Would you recommend no-load on pre-load the car to swap out sway bar bushings and end links?

    I actually just had one of mine break on my 2011 Impreza (driver's side). Does it make sense to replace both or would you only replace the broken one? What kind did you get and where did you get them? Thanks for the help!

    • @CarsNToys
      @CarsNToys  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'd replace both. They're inexpensive. Your local auto part store will carry them.

    Is it safe to drive if the stabilizer link comes off or get broken?? How much time before it needs to get repaired says it breaks while driving??

    • @essteeeye1932
      @essteeeye1932 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can actually drive without a stabilizer bar/anti-roll bar, they just help with chassis stiffness when cornering. You would be okay if one were to break while driving, just take it easy on corners :)

      Just replaced two on a 2001 Outback, I needed a cutoff wheel, torch and an air ratchet, 3/8 breaker bar and a flexible 3/8 ratchet, the key was holding the inside with a 14 mm while removing the nuts. Very hard to access the nut with an air ratchet.

    What size wrench?

  • @unclealig
    @unclealig ปีที่แล้ว

    your videos helped a lot. thanks. however, one question to this video: do i need to jack up the car on both sides at the front, or is jacking up the car on one side (the one on which you replace the link) also ok? (i was asking myself, if there would be too much tension on the sway bar, if the car is just jacked up at one point, resulting in some kind of warping and the front axis not being symmetric causing that the link will be hard to be removed).
    thanks

    • @b469b
      @b469b ปีที่แล้ว

      Another video about sway bar bushings suggested both sides but im not 100%. I personally only do one side if im not going underneath and have extra stuff setup just in case.

      @@CarsNToys I replaced mine today with whatever the local auto shop had (TRW brand), not OEM. I liked it better. Seems a bit sturdier. I am not a mechanical person and this thing puzzles me. From their purpose description it sounds like they have to endure considerable forces, but the build is flimsy. After installation, I have been looking at them while car was in uneven surface, like one wheel on the road edge, etc They bend in weird way. Couldn't understand what forces and what direction they transfer... Anyway, they must be doing something. Not much apparently, as I have been driving around without any obvious difference...

      They attach the sway bar to the suspension system.
      It is used to stiffen the suspension when sharply turning. It has no impact when driving straight.
