I think it was a combination of two things. Mostly because of his sick son and his growing belief that Jesus is who he says he is, so when push came to shove, and his being backed into a corner, he just wouldn't do it. I think to a lesser extent the fact that Atticus was on his side, and had basically hinted that he would back Gaius against Quintus...that Quintus would be removed, thus getting rid of one of his issues. But mostly because he had converted in his heart and believed that the Jewish God WAS God.
When Quintus was telling Gaius to kill Jesus etc…and Gaias openly says “NO” more than once - each time he said NO I found myself yelling “YEAH” out loud. That right there really got me going.
That was awesome. And, I honestly thought for a moment that Julius was also going to resist and stand by his side because he hesitated to arrest Gaius. But nope, I guess it was more of a "Oh come on man, I like working with you, don't make me arrest you! Ughh"
I am excited to see how Thomas is treated in future episodes. Thomas touching Ramah's wound seems to foreshadow when Thomas touches Jesus' wound after His Resurrection. It will come full circle and it will be beautiful.
Hmmm. I didn't think of that parallel but I think it's possible. Though, I hope the chosen actually makes Thomas touch him. It's a nitpick that's always bugged me with other live action bible shows, Thomas says he wants to touch the wounds and put his fingers in them, but then as soon as Jesus shows them to him, he just falls or responds my lord my God before he's able to out his finger in. And yeah I know that might be difficult to film and show on screen since the Jesus actors don't have actual holes in their hands, but I've always imagined Thomas doing it and I'd like to see a portrayal where Thomas actually does what he said he wanted to do to believe.
Hey I'm a Catholic, I watched this last night and was shaking with the intensity. I know The Chosen tries to touch everyone with personal experiences. I felt this scene so hard. My mom passed away when I was 8 and I understand this suffering. I understand turning to God and asking why. I understand trying to come to terms with God's will. So I really liked this episode.
Families can be together forever, through our Father’s plan, and thanks to the glorious atonement and resurrection of His son Jesus Christ. Remember faith, repentance, baptism and the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Hey love. I’m also a Catholic Christian and I lost my mom 3 years ago at 21. Sending you so much love. Remember God understands the pain ❤ he too was human and felt grief.
I'm not upset. I read and study God's word, I know Who God is, and I know who I am in Him. I'm grateful to be His and to be growing in Him daily. The Chosen has highs and lows; I plan to view the rest of the season.
I think it's important to remember that not everyone who prays for healing or begs for the life of a loved one gets a miracle. Jesus/God is not a genie granting wishes. He doesn't promise we won't have sorrow ... just that he will be there with us.
Asking Jesus to heal/ raise Remah was hardly a genie request. When he was incarnate, Jesus healed all who came to him. Also, John 21:25 clearly states that Jesus did so many more signs and miracles than were recorded because there wouldn’t be enough books to contain them. This scene was more about artistic fiction with the writer of the scene deciding for himself what Jesus would do based on his own faith and knowledge of scripture. They blew this big time.
My sweet husband died of cancer in 2021. We both love the Lord and prayed every day (sometimes begging and crying) for physical healing. I did not understand why he was not healed and blamed God for a very long time. It took a while to accept his death as part of His plan. Jesus was so gracious to me during this time. He never left me. I still grieve and miss him, but I know my Kevin is with Jesus now, and in a MUCH better place. I am grateful for that and I will see him again one day.✝️❤️👸
I think that was shown with little James not being healed, or bigger yet, Simon losing a child in the previous season. I thought he went back to heal her, but then I remembered, there aren’t any stories of Jesus healing a sword wound of a woman, which meant He wouldn’t be doing anything miraculous.
I would never stop watching. I lost my husband a few years back, I know what it feels like. Yes I also questioned God and my prayers weren’t answered either. The grieving of my husband’s death brought Jesus to me personally. Before my husband’s death I knew of Jesus, but now, I know Jesus. He comforted me in so many ways that I can’t even explain it. 🙏 Thank you my Lord Jesus, my savior, my Father, my BFF ❤️
Lost my love last year. The grief and desperation of Thomas is exactly how I felt as I sat there watching him go. I knew God could have healed him, but I also knew He could choose not to. And sometimes knowing is of no comfort. It's something people won't understand, fortunately and unfortunately, until it happens to them. -sister in Christ
This episode is a teaching one. Teach us that not everyone gets their “miracle” but that God is walking us through it, loving us, holding us with love. In the middle of pain and sorrows we must enhance our love and understanding God and acceptance . Never question or judge.
It’s literally the most powerful part of the show. Why on earth would anyone say they’re never gonna watch it again after that? That’s insane! The point is that nothing will ever go the way we think it will on this earth, and you will experience death and heartache, and we have to be broken To follow Jesus
Yes, it was tragic to see Ramah die, but to understand the significance of the scene, you have to go back to the beginning of the episode. The start shows King David, certainly a huge favorite with God, praying for his dying child to be spared from death. Yet, in spite of God's love for David, the child dies. This scene was purposely included to show God does not necessarily give us what we want, prevent tragedies, or spare the innocent even when they are special to Him. Such occurrences are why many non-believers don't come to the Faith. They think if there is a loving God, he wouldn't let bad things happen. Several points must be understood if we are to understand this: first, Jesus did not come to heal and raise the dead, he came to provide a way humanity could pay it's debt for original sin. His death on the cross paid that sacrifice. He came to provide a way for gentiles to join the Faith along with Jews. He was also a teacher spreading the Word to Jew and gentile alike. God does at times intercede and performs a miracle, but if mankind is to have free will, God cannot intercede in every matter of our lives, so tragedies will occur and we find them hard to understand. We are tiny creatures and cannot necessarily understand His long term plans.
Yes: "go back to the beginning of the episode." Many of the beginnings are prophetic, like Moses raising up a life saving serpent foretelling the Christ, Jesus being raised up on that cross for our salvation.
And not only that, but yes, while Jesus healed people in the Bible, look at the times He didn’t heal everyone: John the Baptist, His foster father, and the people in Nazareth when He was rejected. But think about this: the apostles healed people after Pentecost and Jesus ascended into heaven. Why didn’t Jesus heal those people when He was around? I talked to my dad about it when we saw it in theaters, and even he said that Jesus didn’t come to Earth to heal every single person. He came to give Himself up to save us for our sins…to die on the cross. Healing people was to show the power of God. I think the Bible is only a fraction of what Jesus did and didn’t do on Earth. And I agree with Brandon, I think somehow after the crucifixion we will see Ramah again. And also like Brandon said, it’s a show based on the Bible with artistic license. It’s not Scripture. It’s not trying to change the Bible or Jesus. So I think we all need to calm down and trust Dallas and trust God to guide Dallas and his team to tell Jesus’ story.
As a parent I want my kids to always be happy. But as a parent I can't always say yes to everything my children want because it's better for them if I say no. God is like this. We don't always understand why the answer is no, but He has a bigger picture and knows what's best for us. This episode reminds us of that! For whatever reason, it was best for them not to have her healed. You can see it was hard for Jesus because he hated seeing Thomas hurting. But because he loved him he wants what's eternally best for him.
@@YSNostalgia YES! These characters get better every season!!!! In fact, I felt grief like I had just lost my own loved one...watching this episode. Dallas nailed it!!!!
You got it Sleuth! Mathew 27: 52 and the tombs broke open. The bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life. 53 They came out of the tombs after Jesus’ resurrection and[a] went into the holy city and appeared to many people." Great ending seeing all who died: Joseph, John B. Ramah, WoW 😍
But we're not told who they are or what happened to them afterward, and none of the other Gospel writers mention it. Sometimes I wish that Matthew never mentioned it.
But we're not told who they are or what happened to them afterward, and none of the other Gospel writers mention it. Sometimes I wish that Matthew never mentioned it.
This episode should remind people that JESUS did not come down to Earth to stop death and not all prayers are answered and that's the way God designed it. We have to accept death as part of our life. Even JESUS died, and WE WILL ALL HAVE OUR TIME LATER come resurrection time.
This actually makes complete sense. It's common to kill a main character on a TV show for drama and shock value. Since they couldn't kill the disciples they made up a character. I think Jesus was perfectly empathetic. The fact is that he didn't heal or raise every person from the dead. But he still showed compassion

Something about this doesn’t sit right with my spirit. I think one must be super careful coming up with theology to explain what we may see in our life but that we don’t see in the life of Jesus. While I agree that suffering is a reality we will face, even Jesus says, “In this world you will have trouble” this episode portrays a present Jesus who stands by and does nothing. Whereas in scripture “Jesus healed them all” this is the common theme we see in the gospels and it is the only response we see coming from Him towards those suffering that He met. That is except when the attitude and unbelief from people of his hometown resulted in Him “not doing MANY miracles there” in that case it was the attitude of the people creating an atmosphere where the miraculous did not flow easy, but even then it didn’t stop it completely. I can’t think of a single time when Jesus didn’t step in for those who desperately sought Him and many who didn’t. I would rather have unanswered questions about suffering on this earth than to conclude that the presence of Jesus will result in anything less than glory light and life. Lastly, if this lack of response from Jesus to our suffering were true why does the Bible stay silent? Why is there not even one account that speaks in this regard? Surely if such a situation of standing by and allowing suffering, in His very presence, ever happened, especially when His followers were desperately believing, the biblical record would reveal it even a minor mention. It doesn’t. I think we just have to be very careful the conclusions we come to and Jesus we portray! ❤
@@flutenotesthe man who raised him Joseph died. John the Baptist. And many others while Jesus was alive. We cannot know why God allows some to live and some to die
I know Dallas has a plan. He said it himself, that he's been planning this since the beginning. Let's wait until it's all said and done...😂 I cried like a baby btw.
@Like_An_Eagle Raised from the dead right? That's what I was hoping but based on scripture Thomas is adamant and unequivocal in his unbelief so there's no hope there 😢
But this portrays Jesus as unreliable, and makes Thomas the doubter because of it. How can Jesus agree to marry them and then it doesn't come to pass. God cannot lie, His word does not return void. This is blasphemous.
@@whyamialwaystired3182 Jesus doesn't perform the miracles he wants to perform. It all comes from God. I believe that's why he looked up after saying it was not her time.
Great breakdown Brandon this episode truly touched home when I lost my Son my faith was truly tested I did not question I felt God before during and he is still with me right now my faith is strengthened and God gave me what I asked for PEACE and to never leave me
that’s where i got confused.. Thomas ignoring Quintus as a threat (Angry Quintus holding a sword) and he passed right in front of him 😂 (of all the choices where to walk, he walked there)
Yeah I thought that could've been choreographed a bit better, like somehow Quintus recognizing them from the crowd or something lol. Took a bit of the emotional impact a bit
For that matter, why was Quintus there in the first place? A governor would have dispatched a centurion to do his bidding, not run into a crowd alone himself. A governor, a centurion, and two soldiers show up to deal with civil unrest? And then they plunge through the crowd with no discipline or protection? It's militarily stupid and highly un-Roman. The problem with the episode was not that Ramah died. Fine, kill her off. It's a drama. The problem was that the circumstance of it was so poorly executed and unbelievable. Dallas Jenkins decided he needed Ramah to die in order to shape his plot and his message. In doing so, Jenkins broke a lot of artistic rules to make the death happen.
@buzzardist1659 I guess he did try commanding Gaius to do it, nonetheless did leave me a little perplexed. Something better would have been along the lines of "Quintus loses his composure, raging and commanding the camp to be shrunken in size. Commands soldiers to use violence and accidental fight breaks out, killing Ramah in the process
I had a HARD time wrapping my mind around Jesus reaction to Thomas asking for the healing of Ramah. My heart was broken for Thomas and I felt so much pain I sobbed like a baby. NO OTHER SHOW has ever BROKEN me this strongly. I won't stop watching, but I feel like I need a breather! IT IS A PHYSICAL HURT!!!
Bad things happen to good people innocent people get killed for no good reason it never feels right or fair we just have to trust him because that s all there is
James asked about being healed as well and was denied, God sometimes has different missions and I can only imagine Thomas reacting to Jesus being Lazarus back from death
Dallas had a team member who felt the same way saying to him "that's not my Jesus." She felt Jesus's arms around her when her mother died. Dallas agreed saying "That wasn't her Jesus, it was Thomas's Jesus. Thomas would have thrown off a hug...he didn't want to be touched. Jesus knew that but even still he was there." Of course that is paraphrased but it's idea that apart from not healing Rhama, Jesus is the Jesus he needs him to be at this point of his grief.
I saw this in the theaters and I was super shocked. And Man, I KNEW what was coming last night and i STILL got super tense and had goosebumps all over! And yeah like you said ahout the chat, when thomas looked to jesus, the guy sitting beside me went, "Okay, here we go." Where as for me, I just KNEW that Jesus wasnt gonna heal her. The way Jesus was looking upset and the way the music was playing, I was like, "Aww man, hes not gonna do it..." And this was one of the few times i actually screamed in the theater. The screen went black, the credits started and i just yelled out, "THEY'RE GONNA END IT THERE??!!!!"
When Ramah says "I don't know what to say" and Thomas says "so don't," it goes back to the wedding at Cana when he says "I don't know what to think," and she says "so don't."
We bargain and plead with God to get what we want. "You can fix this, please don't let what we don't want to be in your will." That is the point the writers were saying, imo.
Im still really glad that The Chosen has been acknowledging stuff like this. The fact that God doesnt answer all of our prayers, that he doesnt heal everybody, that he allows us to feel loss, that bad things hapoen but God still has a higher plan in spite of them. I've seen all 8 episodes by myself in the theaters, and ive watched all 8 of the livestreams with my dad and it's allowed us to have some great faith-based conversations about all of those things. Hes been a believer all my life but its not something we usually talk about, and i love how the show has been giving us those moments to discuss what we think about the jewish stuff and what we believe about gods will.
At first, I was irritated because the scene seemed forced and sensational, but then the emotion of that moment hit me deeply! Jesus is always standing right there in the midst of our lives, including terrible, tragic moments and we plead with him as if he may be there or is sort of there, but HE IS THERE and it may not be time to answer “Yes” to our pleas.
I saw this in the theater and 😭, and last night I cried too. Even if it's an extra-biblical story, it showed real life. I've had many loved ones who were not healed, and died. And that is life, but I know I'll see them again in heaven (hopefully) 🙏
Thomas in this episode reminds me so much of my grandfather after my grandma passed. He is a lot like Thomas in personality as well. After my grandma passed he hadn’t been the same funny and goofy and happy person. Which he wasn’t always as happy before, and he’ll joke around every now and then but it’s not the same. He has literally told me with this words that he will never be happy again. I try and cheer him up, and he purposely shuts himself away from me and my mom. I try to give him a great day, and he just ends up saying he had a horrible day. I think he has become depressed, and both me and my mother have no idea what to do..
What Jesus not sending the blind man to the pool if Siloam like it states in John 9:7 but has Jesus telling a deciple to get a bucket and draw water and has him wash from the bucket...I suppose its ok for many of today tv and TH-cam and even the pope to take artistic license and adding or taking away from a versus like Leviticus 18.. And then defend the ending..I bet there will e many complaining...
First doubting Thomas is a fantasy literally every apostle doubted form saint peter to saint Matthew they all doubted until Jesus physically appeared then they all believed but at that time Thomas was not present so obviously he would doubt secondly I think this artistic licensing thing is dangerous it could lead to needless changes that could impact both the context of the story and the Bible
Exactly, it's a show and though I love Rama,( the actress is phenomenal), but because the Bible only list one disciple as being married I knew this would have to be resolved. I loved the acting from everyone in this episode. I also felt for the actors' worried and pain over the fans reactions. They anticipated our reactions, the entire Chosen team did. But, Dallas is correct is suffering is in the world. Good people are not immune from it. I'll miss this character, but I understand it and I'm willing to take ride with The Chosen. Thank you Brandon for breaking this down beautifully.
1 Cor 9:5 strongly implies the rest of the apostles were married, but I don’t know Greek well enough to say if it unequivocally states that ALL of them had wives. Certainly the unmarried would be in a minority though.
Some of Jesus' apostles were married; Matthew writes about Peter's mother-in-law (Matthew 8:14), and Paul references other apostles being married in 1 Corinthians 9:5 when he says he has a right to marry a believing woman because Peter, Jesus' brothers, and other apostles had married.
its not that it "wasn't in the script", it wasn't in Scripture! the story of Thomas and Ramah is fiction. If you notice Jesus only looked upset during that scene, he never spoke and never went up to her to console her or hold her as she passed. It's not biblical
I think people responding to this is missing the joke which I'm sure has a double meaning. That it wasn't in the script of the show and it wasn't part of God's plan to revive her yet. That aside, the fact that this is a show, we the audience has to get to know characters for the story to be told since none of us existed 2,000 years ago. This show is heavily inspired by scripture and is taking stuff from scripture and showing it in a way the audience can understand. That said, this will be a perfect chance for the series to physically show Matthew 27 50-53 and have a character we've grown to love be involved. If anyone is thinking about Jesus losing none of them except Judas, I'm sure he's talking about their souls not being lost. Ramah dying has nothing to do with her soul being lost, she believed and followed Jesus to the end.
As to resurrecting Ramah, I had that thought myself, and moreover, such an event would impact her DAD! You know they were praying he would believe, and to see God answer that prayer within the show would be huge!!!
The gathering in the square : I saw it as Gaius being there to listen to Jesus, at the same time staying there to keep order and protect Jesus. The motive of ambition is I think assumed by Atticus as it's the way he thinks, not because Gaius necessarily has ambition or because Gaius wants to show Quintus up I also thing that Ramah will turn up in Season 7, but I imagine a dream sequence where she strengthens Thomas who is having trouble after the others tell him they've seen Jesus. Remembering her last words - Stay with him. Thank you for this video - it was an episode that really needed talking through.
I appreciate your dedication to explaining each episode and going through various scenes. Thank you for sharing your wisdom with us, for both the biblical and non-biblical parts of The Chosen. You are truly a very helpful and insightful Commentator. Thank you and God Bless you!!! 😊🙏
It's a wonderful show. It will get people looking to the bible, Asking questions, getting some answers. We can't know all that Jesus is thinking, or when he will come back for us, He doesn't even know. BUT GOD !
That sun hazed background may not be CGI. I'm 63 and have enjoyed many sunrises and sunsets. I have seen this exact look of the sky many times. Not often, but natural. Let's not mistake a gift from God as the helping hand of man
Here's an idea: Atticus told Gaius that either Quintus would lose everything or Gaius would. Killing Raimah PROBABLY ensures it's Quintus that loses. So...this is arguably an instance of "What you meant for Evil, God meant for Good." Thus, alas, Ramah was meant to die...as the catalyst for change.
@@yeshuaislord3058 if with go with scripture, the miracles Christ did acted changing natural law, healing the sick, returning life to those that died from illness, multiplying food, changing it from water to wine, control the weather and animals. We got the DVDs two days ago and have been watching two episodes a day, so we're pretty much in sync with you. Back when it was in theaters, I wasn't sure we'd ever get to see it, and I decided I didn't care about spoilers, so I watched commenters who had spoilers. When we put on this episode, I told my husband "I'm not going to spoil it for you, but I think you should know that something pretty shocking happens in this episode." He said "Is it something from the Bible?" I said "No, it's about a made-up character. But you're not going to like it." Afterward he said "You're right. I don't like it."
you did spoil it. just the fact that you said something shocking happens is a spoiler. JESUS didn't "lose" John the Baptist...he fulfilled his PURPOSE, in that he PREPARED THE WAY! Even JESUS, after HE completed HIS ASSIGNMENT, WENT TO BE WITH THE FATHER!
Proud and happy Catholic here. With all the disagreement and vitriol that may be sadly present within the discussions Christians have, I'm glad we can all come together and watch this show. It is not a replacement for scripture, but is enjoyable enough to bring me back to scripture again and again with new eyes and an open heart.
Brandon you are the best. Greetings from Tennessee. Thank you for all you do. I was stunned with this scene..was very sad....but God makes NO mistakes.....and whatever happens we may not understand it at the time.......that's where your faith gets you through everything......I thought it was important the way King David and Ramah"s storyline were tied in. Acting was amazing....Writing was so awesome.....Sorrow and joy are a part of life, and the Lord teaches us that by His own example of what He suffered through for us. He hears all our prayers and knows the right thing to do about them. Love the Chosen....and will continue to watch.
I don't usually agree with the chosen on everything. But i have learned to accept it as just a TV show. And also, sometimes God puts us through trials to strengthen us, I think that was a good way to portray that lesson. (:
I thank you and Dallas Jenkins for the amazing explanation. I, too, was shocked for a few seconds but reminded myself that it's a tv series, NOT THE BIBLE. My God, my Jesus, my Holy Spirit sometimes says NO, and that's hard to deal with. As believers, it's hard to accept tragedies, but they do happen, and as humans, we need help. So THANK YOU that we are addressing this issue.
This needs to be told. Miracles aren't always the answer. Jesus doesn't give out bandaids for every thing. Those who stand for Christ regardless of outcomes we don't like, brings about a stronger ending somewhere.
I knew this was coming. I am very grounded in the Word and understand why bad things happen to good people…..STILL God is trustworthy. As for the show, they write back stories for real Bible people. Thomas is know as “doubting Thomas”. Something had to have happened to Thomas to make Him doubt. Did he doubt that Jesus was who He claimed to be? Did he doubt that Jesus had indeed risen from the dead? Maybe because Jesus didn’t raise Ramah from the dead, Thomas doubted that He was indeed all powerful. This video shows the/a possible source of Thomas’ doubt. I think it’s a plausible reason. We wont know for sure till we are in heaven with our great God and His family!
I fully expected this. The foreshadowing earlier in the episode with the gift of time told me that she would die. During the scene when they couldn’t find her you knew the focus was now on Ramah and what would happen. Also the scene when she asked Jesus to give her away and he said, let’s talk about it after the grieving period was over for John the Baptist was the first foreshadowing that something big was going to happen to her.
Who else kept coughing & saying “Peter” whenever he kept saying Simon like the characters kept doing whenever they kept calling him by his old name 😂😂😂
I found that episode to be so brilliant and I completely understand why Dallas put this in the show. I have a lot of respect for Dallas, he’s clearly very scripturally adept and on point. The chosen has so much unspoken biblical truths that most people miss completely. High respect. 🙌🏼
Agree with your comment at the beginning of the video. For me it is seeing a step deeper than just words.. I have always loved watching episodes connected with life of Jesus. Thank you for your explanations.. 👍
We have all been touched by death in some form, and after all the death I have had in the last few years this honestly reminded me of how even though there is death, and things happen in a way without reason, God is still loving and good. In this episode he had the crowd demanding more moracles, and he said "it does not work that way". She knew at the end what mattered more than her being with Thomas was Thomas following Jesus. I feel it would be wrong for Jesus to being her back because it would not only change Jesus affect on people and what He came to do, but also us as viewers as well. It may be a show with fictional characters included, but looking at the comments, it has become personal for many.
G'day, Brandon! Just want to thank you for this video which explains so much of what I missed by not having captions on screen. You clarified very well what set Quintus off to culminate in the killing of Remah (sp?). Keep up the great work of unpacking these episodes.

It makes perfect sense to help fans learn all the reasons why Doubting Thomas got to the way he was in the Bible. It is very plausible to explain why Thomas said he would never believe till he also touched the holes in the hands and feet of Jesus after the resurrection.
At first, when I left the theater, I didn't care for the scene with the death of Ramah, for it left people talking about something that was extra Biblical. But I can see why they done it, as I am sure this will cause Thomas to be even more doubtful and cynical as he wrestles with why Jesus did not heal Ramah. My daughter-in-law who was only 27 passed away from cancer a couple of years ago, leaving my son heartbroken and stricken with grief. We prayed and prayed for healing, but God chose to heal her in a different way. These struggles are something we all will deal with at some point in our lives, and it's good to see the show tackle these hard issues.
Remember in the previous episode, Jesus said He was here with a sword to divide? And specifically used Ramah and her father as an example? Quintus's sword was used to divide. You'll see.
My theory on why Jesus did not heal Ramah was that it was not yet time for Jesus to be revealed as the Messiah in front of that crowd. Had He raised Ramah from the dead in front of that crowd, they would have proclaimed Him King of the Jews and done an uprising against the Romans. Jesus later did resurrect Lazarus, but it was under somewhat of a more controlled group setting, and it was also a bit closer to the time of His crucifixion. Also, I believe that if Jesus had resurrected Ramah in front of that large crowd, more people would put pressure on Him to resurrect others, but obviously, that was not the plan of Jesus at that time. The fullfillment of His mission was more important than even the raising of the dead of some random people. Jesus had to be sacrificed, so that many millions of people would be resurrected to eternal life!
@@kmbn1967 Only Lazarus and Jairus' daughter were raised from the dead; it would have been an outrage if Jesus raised Ramah. EDITED: I have amended my post, based on kmbn1967's post below.
They don’t need to fix this . This is the 1st century where people were getting brutally killed or died from diseases. Ramah dying shows that nobody is safe and gives the show some realism untill the crucifixion comes …
@@Tony-ci7ys And that was covered. John the Baptist's death showed this verse did not apply to all of Jesus' followers. It was referring to the 12. Even if they'd gotten that detail wrong, that's not blasphemy. That's not what blasphemy is. You misuse that word and that is actually a problem. Blasphemy is 1 of 2 things: insulting or mocking God (this doesn't even come close to that) or claiming to be God (this also doesn't claim that, and Dallas is very clear the Chosen is not Scripture and directs people to read scripture for themselves). OK. THIS is the last thing I say to you.
If I go back in time, you would see 13 year old me, kneeling by my dad in the kitchen as he'd had a severe heart attack. Crying out, No God No. Heal him!! At the ER, in the waiting room, he's not dead God, heal my daddy!!! Then my mom comes in, shakes her head. He's gone. I felt this scene with every fiber of my being. And like my mom told me as a young girl, there is a time for everything . A time to live. A time to dance. And a time to rejoice. And a time to die. I heard my mom's voice as Jesus said that to Thomas. It was her time. I wasn't upset about Ramah's death, as she was kinda a fictional character. But as the Bible says, All our times are in His hands. This episode really hit home for me!! Shalom!
Regarding the "learning the sermon", a read I have on it is it's more that he's training Matthew. That's a common training tactic, to have the person you're training "help you" do something you need no help doing. Japan still uses abacuses. It's one of those traditional skills like tea ceremonies that kids sometimes learn in school or cram schools to become more traditional... connected with history. And some of them are so fast with them that they can do a lot of things faster than people with calculators. The mini "great resurrection" after the crucifixion is a possibility for Ramah. I know they're not doing all of the big stories, but that is such a cool one I've never seen in any bible media, it would be great to see finally.
Its an example of how we dont understand the things God lets happen. We always want sunshine and rainbows, but what would we learn from that? Obviously this character isn't in the bible so they had to write her off somehow... but i think this shows how we sometimes have certain expectations with God. Relying on our own understanding rather than trusting what God is doing. If there was never any struggles in our lives how would we learn from our circumstances? Its a sad reality but necessary.
I personally feel how they killed Remah felt forced. Unlike the miscarriage, which felt organic to the story, this felt more like they just wanted to kill off a character. It was one of those "are you kidding me?" moments. Quintus accidentally stabs her with a sword? I personally do not think it was well written.
you're absolutely right!..THIS whole thing about Remah getting killed off right there with Jesus and Him saying "no" when Thomas ASKED and with faith would NEVER have happened like that!..this portrayed Jesus sooo wrongly!!..i'm stiiill in shock!...God bless you!!🙏😇💜
Another theory I have is that Ramah will be resurrected (and possibly also John the Baptist) along with those who rose from the dead on the the morning of Jesus' resurrection (obviously, according to The Chosen, not the Bible). I believe that Ramah will be seen alive, by Thomas and the rest of the disciples. Dallas made reference to this issue not being over, that "we are not monsters", which leads me to believe that Dallas has something good up his sleeve for the end of season 7.
Just watched this scene last night and don’t know why I would put myself thru it again by watching this scene again 😭😭 my husband and our family lost my brother in law to Covid 3 years ago and remembering that dark moment while watching this, my heart broke again and I sobbed 😭 sometimes God allows suffering and loss while on this broken earth but He is there holding us in the grief, I witnessed my husband mourn and slowly heal by trusting in Gods goodness in the midst of pain and loss. 💔🩷🙏
I think a big message to learn from this is that no matter what happens in our life with troubling times, the lord does not want us to lose our faith, with our strong faith, it will allow us to gain so much more overweighing the pain we experience on earth, and through the Lords will these tests we receive on earth can show us how strong our faith is, NEVER LOSE YOUR FAITH, HE IS ALWAYS WITH YOU!
As someone who lost their dad at 13 from an accidental death by medical equipment malfunction I can understand why questions would be asked why would God allow some things to happen. It took me a very long time to gain some understanding through prayer and my relationship with God. I will never know why but through my trials and loss I have become more strong in my faith than I have ever been. Through pain it gave me a better understanding of Gods love for me and why he said he would never leave me nor forsake me and that he would be my comforter. I have realized that without him I would not have made it through my grief and pain. He has empowered me through his spirit transforming my life and allowing me to reach out to others that have gone through similar pains and loss. I have been able to lead others more closer to a relationship with God through my experience. That wouldn’t have been able to do had I not gone through things. Do I miss my dad absolutely but he raised me to fall in love with my God Jesus Christ and I have been every day. There is no greater love than the love of the one true living God Jesus Christ. What a beautiful life with Him!!
The people who are upset are the ones who are looking at this show like it's their Bible. Go read your Bible, people. And you can come enjoy this show like you're meant to, as a dramatized, often fictionalized retelling.
Not necessarily. It's a drama that people are vested in. People are upset because this is a real life connection for those of us who have lost a loved one that Jesus did not heal. It hits in the heart.
I understand it is a TV series. And I knew characters had to be portrayed. I was hesitant on a few other scenes that went off script and then when I saw this one I knew it was going to bring confusion to those who don’t understand Scripture. For instance, when I was in the theatre and watched season 4, this episode 3, a man next to me was not a believer or Bible reader. He asked his friend next to him if this was in the Bible. His friends said pick up a Bible and read it to find out. Now if people who don’t know Scripture encounter people with comments like that, they are not conveying a good message. The Bible purposely says do not add or take away one Word of the Scriptures. Deuteronomy 4:2, Deuteronomy 12:32, Proverbs 30:6, Jeremiah 26:2, Ecclesiastes 3:14, Revelation 22:18-19, and others. Whether we read the scriptures or we have it visually given to us is a Big Deal. Will I keep watching it for now, I haven’t decided yet, I am very hesitant and disappointed, especially after what I encountered in the Theater. I am sure Dallas has a plan, but confusing non believers is not what God requests. God is Judge over all and this will be between Dallas and our Lord.
The people that get mad dont understand that for a believer, to die IN CHRIST.. is BETTER than being alive. I can wait personally but I tell everyone I know, the day I die I will be much happier than any other day before it.
Anybody else think Jesus standing up to the Pharisees is what gave Gaius the strength to stand up to Quintus?
Great point.
I like that.
Absolutely, that and his budding, new found faith put into question by Atticus!🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
Yea, absolutely
Except Quintus told Guias to ARREST Jesus, not kill him. But, yeah! I was cheering, too! 👍
Like John The Baptist when Jesus cast out the demons in Caleb in Season 2???
Whippie do for u
@@BillieArdhaha, I bet SOME people did!
Ooh i didn't connect touching the wound! Thanks for noting that :)
Wow! I didn't make that connection! Good catch! 👍
Brilliant
And yeah I know that might be difficult to film and show on screen since the Jesus actors don't have actual holes in their hands, but I've always imagined Thomas doing it and I'd like to see a portrayal where Thomas actually does what he said he wanted to do to believe.
maybe, but scientifically, you should put pressure on a wound so maybe he was just putting pressure on it
Hey I'm a Catholic, I watched this last night and was shaking with the intensity. I know The Chosen tries to touch everyone with personal experiences. I felt this scene so hard. My mom passed away when I was 8 and I understand this suffering. I understand turning to God and asking why. I understand trying to come to terms with God's will. So I really liked this episode.
Remember that even God's Son died, that your mom can see you again. ❤🩹❤🩹
AMEN. Same :)
This exactly!
Same. Once you understand all of that, it's not difficult to keep watching the show
I think it's important to remember that not everyone who prays for healing or begs for the life of a loved one gets a miracle. Jesus/God is not a genie granting wishes. He doesn't promise we won't have sorrow ... just that he will be there with us.
the fictionalized Peter storyline with the miscarriage already emphasized that.
John says He healed a whole lot more than could ever be written down, so this was total bull sh#t!!
I'm sure many people wanted to be healed at the pool. But Jesus wanted to glorify God. Very interesting video. Keep up the good work. God bless you.
I hope she does come back
This episode is a teaching one.
I believe prayers are answered just not always as we expect and definitely not in our timing!

I love this comment. You just helped open my eyes. May the Lord bless you 💜
Excellent comment. So much of what we do reveals "the thoughts and intentions of our heart."
thomas was also never married so it couldnt be biblically accurate if he was married
Yes God knows the end from the beginning He knows what is best for us even though we may not see it now.
14:47 I noticed the music in the theater and I just started saying “oh no. Oh it can’t be.” I knew something was going to happen to her.
The heartbreak that Joey's portrayed in Thomas was truly amazing acting.

The fact that He downright told Thomas He loves him is the thing that made me feel Jesus being Jesus... loving and sympathetic...

❤

But this portrays Jesus as unreliable, and makes Thomas the doubter because of it. How can Jesus agree to marry them and then it doesn't come to pass. God cannot lie, His word does not return void. This is blasphemous.

that’s where i got confused..
Yes, one of many choices in this episode I don't understand.
Quintus was past the point of all reason and just wanted results. His results.
The chaos started when the crowd start agreeing with Jesus. They was like yeah you know he’s right! Then all hell broke loose
Thanks!
Sorry beloved
Jesus knew that but even still he was there."
Of course that is paraphrased but it's idea that apart from not healing Rhama, Jesus is the Jesus he needs him to be at this point of his grief.
Episode 4 will help you process it
I saw this in the theaters and I was super shocked.
The way Jesus was looking upset and the way the music was playing, I was like, "Aww man, hes not gonna do it..."
And this was one of the few times i actually screamed in the theater.
Brilliant observation-a book end, a way to tie up the loose ends and bring things full circle. Brilliant writing
Thank you for bringing that back to my remembrance!
Quintus: "Arrest Jesus, or you will HANG!"
Gaius: "I will _not_ ."
Hmm...double meaning there, Gaius? 🤔
Was thinking the same thing!
He denied Quintus and stood up fir Jesus 3 times, points to Peter
You saying like he will not arrest Jesus and he will also not hang? Yeah I can see that 😉
ofc he'll not hang(spoilers)
It also ties in with James and John where they thought anything you ask Jesus will give and yet here James ask and Jesus didn't
Raimah was my favorite character. She was smart strong and yet humble. Gonna miss her.
Dallas does excellent job explaining episode 3, it's all good, and hey ya'll "Life is NOT fair" and we all suffer at one time or another.
God is God. He is Supreme. He decides what happens not us.
It's extraBiblical, artistic license! It foretells 'Doubting Thomas', brilliantly done

Thank you Brandon for breaking this down beautifully.
No, the Bible states, that all Apostles were married.
@@nebucamv5524 Catholic here, that is unequivocally false
1 Cor 9:5 strongly implies the rest of the apostles were married, but I don’t know Greek well enough to say if it unequivocally states that ALL of them had wives. Certainly the unmarried would be in a minority though.
Some of Jesus' apostles were married; Matthew writes about Peter's mother-in-law (Matthew 8:14), and Paul references other apostles being married in 1 Corinthians 9:5 when he says he has a right to marry a believing woman because Peter, Jesus' brothers, and other apostles had married.
@@nebucamv5524 It does not state that (1 Cor 9:5).
He didn't heal her because - IT WASN'T IN THE SCRIPT 😆😂
And cuz she wasn't really dead because she never really existed! Get a grip, folks.
its not that it "wasn't in the script", it wasn't in Scripture! the story of Thomas and Ramah is fiction. If you notice Jesus only looked upset during that scene, he never spoke and never went up to her to console her or hold her as she passed. It's not biblical
@@judykuzmitz4585 She knows she's a fiction.
Haha, and knowing Dallas, I wouldn't be surprised if he actually said that to some of the people asking why Jesus allowed her to die. 😂
As believers we need to understand that everything pertaining to our lives have already been planned before the foundation of the earth... Purpose.
The gathering in the square : I saw it as Gaius being there to listen to Jesus, at the same time staying there to keep order and protect Jesus.
The motive of ambition is I think assumed by Atticus as it's the way he thinks, not because Gaius necessarily has ambition or because Gaius wants to show Quintus up
I also thing that Ramah will turn up in Season 7, but I imagine a dream sequence where she strengthens Thomas who is having trouble after the others tell him they've seen Jesus. Remembering her last words - Stay with him.
Thank you for this video - it was an episode that really needed talking through.
Gods goodness eclipses our suffering. That’s the lesson. And it’s a hard one.
I appreciate your dedication to explaining each episode and going through various scenes. Thank you for sharing your wisdom with us, for both the biblical and non-biblical parts of The Chosen. You are truly a very helpful and insightful Commentator. Thank you and God Bless you!!! 😊🙏
Just great acting in a great series. The writing in this series has gotten better and better. What an incredible series.
It's a wonderful show. It will get people looking to the bible, Asking questions, getting some answers. We can't know all that Jesus is thinking, or when he will come back for us, He doesn't even know. BUT GOD !
In season 2 episode 1 Jesus told Melek that bones will still break, hearts will still break...

Glad I can watch your content again. I’ve been looking forward to your breakdowns of these episodes.
Love how Dallas +team humanizes the disciples by giving them backstories such as this. It reminded me how Jesus is with us even in our suffering. And one day soon we will be with Him in a place where there is no suffering or pain. A place he specifically designed just for us 🥹🥹
Love Ramah’s character. I do hope they bring her back in some way.
We got the DVDs two days ago and have been watching two episodes a day, so we're pretty much in sync with you. Back when it was in theaters, I wasn't sure we'd ever get to see it, and I decided I didn't care about spoilers, so I watched commenters who had spoilers.
When we put on this episode, I told my husband "I'm not going to spoil it for you, but I think you should know that something pretty shocking happens in this episode."
He said "Is it something from the Bible?"
I said "No, it's about a made-up character. But you're not going to like it."
Afterward he said "You're right. I don't like it."
you did spoil it. just the fact that you said something shocking happens is a spoiler. I would have been really mad at you for doing that because you just took away the element of surprise. not cool, remember you had to see it for the 1st time too. What if someone ruined the surprise of it for you??
@@destinycoach5 I've been married to my husband for 46 years, and I know him very well. He thanked me for warning him. I obviously wouldn't have told just anyone.
Besides, there was a big warning on the screen at the beginning of the episode.
I've followed your commentaries since The Chosen began, and your explanation on Season 4 Episode 3 with supporting Scriptures was The Best yet! Thank you for how thoughtfully and deliberately you guided the viewer through the confusion of this episode. So very thankful for you and your insights.
As a fellow Catholic, I agree. Peace to you, my friend.
I love the Chosen too. Thank you for the comment. It helped broaden the perspective for me as I’m committed to following scripture.
I don't usually agree with the chosen on everything.
But i have learned to accept it as just a TV show.
And also,
sometimes God puts us through trials to strengthen us,
I think that was a good way to portray that lesson. (:

This is what helped create “ Doubting Thomas” which is in the Bible.
Maybe, but we also see "Doubting Thomas" right from the beginning at the wedding of Cana.
Thanks. Miracles are signatures. His goal is eternal life through dearh. Not to stop physical death or suffering
A good analysis. Appreciated your thoughts. And I believe you're correct about Ramah possibly returning.

The Chosen gets the Game of Thrones treatment. Now we get to sit through another public mourning. 😅
Its not whether if Christ can or perhaps even wanted to heal her , it was a matter of Christ doing the will of the Father
Remember this Ramah scene IS NOT BIBILICAL!!!! Artistic license to add fiction to the show!

@@TheChosenSleuth You're really a gifted teacher!
It makes perfect sense to help fans learn all the reasons why Doubting Thomas got to the way he was in the Bible. It is very plausible to explain why Thomas said he would never believe till he also touched the holes in the hands and feet of Jesus after the resurrection.
Poor little James. When the crowd started to move you can really see he feared being trampled. And got out of there in time.
Good point
Good theory. Plausible. If Jesus had raised her from the dead then and there, they'd probably make Him king then and there
Amen!
It's simple...he didn't raise her from the dead because that's not biblical.

Gaius's story is the perfect example of God punishing us and challenging us before rewarding us!
Shalom!
I think this is very interesting and will play into Thomas' doubts. I will keep watching to see what happens...
This sense right here show how we should court on purpose and having boundaries.
Perhaps Matthew was more instrumental in Quintas' success than we realized.
I personally feel how they killed Remah felt forced. Unlike the miscarriage, which felt organic to the story, this felt more like they just wanted to kill off a character. It was one of those "are you kidding me?" moments. Quintus accidentally stabs her with a sword? I personally do not think it was well written.
you're absolutely right!..THIS whole thing about Remah getting killed off right there with Jesus and Him saying "no" when Thomas ASKED and with faith would NEVER have happened like that!..this portrayed Jesus sooo wrongly!!..i'm stiiill in shock!...God bless you!!🙏😇💜
Oh, chekovs gun!!! The soldier pointed out to Quintus to carry his sword. He would end up using that sword, per the law of story telling.
Man, I was fearing for the poor dog the whole time.
Quintus SCARED me. Brandon Potter's acting was SUPER convincing. He had my heart beating so so fast!!
Yes, this is exactly the possibility that Brandon mentioned at the end of this video
Interesting...only time will tell

Just watched this scene last night and don’t know why I would put myself thru it again by watching this scene again 😭😭 my husband and our family lost my brother in law to Covid 3 years ago and remembering that dark moment while watching this, my heart broke again and I sobbed 😭 sometimes God allows suffering and loss while on this broken earth but He is there holding us in the grief, I witnessed my husband mourn and slowly heal by trusting in Gods goodness in the midst of pain and loss. 💔🩷🙏
It is a lesson in a biblical tv show. 🙏♥️ …done very well.
Jesus came to earth to bring salvation, not to hold a healing crusade.
thanks!
@@teresalangford5766 It seems like you missed your opportunity to Evangelize.
