I have a few BMWs and don’t have Bluetooth connected on any of them. Even if it worked well, it’s a PITA. What would you prefer, “hey, Cardo play music/next track/etc.” or go into multiple menus using the wonder wheel just to skip a song.
"finally someone mentioned this!!!!!" This newish era of the bluetooth module that they are using has weak power transmission output, hopefully the will release a update increasing the power output (I doubt it). I have the Cardo Black and if I turn my head blocking line of sight my music cuts out but when facing works flawlessly & yes I use a Quad-Lock (which is the best you can buy). Good video, Ride Safe.
I've seen a few other comments on here suggesting to pair the phone to the bike and the headset to the phone (not the bike) and this is fixing the issue. Its worth a try!
I have a SENA helmet with built in communications and one trick I now use is just go to the bike switch it on, connect the bike to the BMW app on your phone, just switch on my helmet (not pairing mode) and let them all do their thing without doing anything to the settings on the bike, phone or helmet. This assumes of course that you have previously paired your phone and helmet to the bike and they have been saved by the bike. They may not all connect immediately but they do after a few minutes usually after I have just commenced my ride. On my sena helmet the phone connects with the helmet the minute I switch the helmet on. You know your set up when you see a small helmet icon and a small phone icon on the bottom near right of the TFT screen. On my helmet when it connects with the bike the speaker says "phone connected" but it really means "bike connected" since the phone is already connected - this confused me a bit until I figured that out.
100% agree! 😂. but here we are in 2022 where everything has an app. lol. I do like having my music while I ride though. That's all I use mine for. Set the playlist, throw the phone in my pocket and go.
Here in 2023 on a 23 S1000XR the bluetooth still is sub optimal/sucks. Mine even has the whole display cut out and reboot, sometimes the Bluetooth comes back sometimes it does not. Probably will get it in the shop soon if it keeps cutting out.
When I used to ride with the iPhone in my inside jacket pocket, it worked fine. I have a Cardo Freecom 4+ and iPhone XS and 2020 S1000RR. I had both the phone and the helmer paired to the bike. Everything worked fine EXCEPT that Siri doesn’t work in this configuration. Since I use Siri for lots of things (such as opening and closing my garage door, starting navigation on Waze, listening to podcasts etc) I decided not to pair the helmet to the bike. I now have the phone paired to the bike, and the phone paired to my helmet. Only reason I still have the phone paired to the bike is so the BMW app can record data from rides. I now have the phone in a stem mount Quadlock and am happy with this setup. When I’m at the track, I connect my GoPro to the Quadlock and this provides a perfect forward view, including the dash.
I'm going to try the phone to bike and headset to phone thing next. I miss having my info in the app. Also, using siri to open the garage!? I didn't even think about that! Now I need to look into that next!
I found a possible fix to this problem with my 2022 s1000rr where if my helmet and phone were both connected to the bike the music would cut in and out. Try and delete your helmet from the bike but keep your phone connected and connect your sena or whatever to your phone. Just skip out on the helmet to bike connection. So far I've had no trouble with it skipping and idk if the bike sends turn by turn to the phone and then the phone sends it to the headset but doing it this way I can still hear turn by turn and have music playing without skipping in and out. And I never lose connectivity to my phone idk if my sena 20s just doesn't pair well with the bike but I ride now with only phone connected to bike but sena connected only to phone and works well this way.
oh wow! I didn't even think about trying that! I will definitely try it out and see if it works. Although I've been enjoying riding in the race pro modes now.
@@SethMichael Yea no doubt those race pro modes are fun for sure. I just got a quad lock for my phone so I hardly use the Bluetooth on the bike that much anyways. I see your in the area man I live in Tampa also so next time yall get a nice ride going ima try and join.
Only issue with this is you can’t answer your phone or change music if your helmet isn’t connected to the bike. If I could still change music from the bike, I would do this all day
What I have had happen my left side earbud loses connection to the bike if I look over my right shoulder, and it can take about 20 min to reconnect while the other ear keeps playing. Thought I could solve the issue with a different pair of ear buds, but then the new set I bought couldn’t even pair with the bike at all. Not sure what Bluetooth technology they are using, but like you said, it is one area that needs improvement. I still like connecting my phone if I need to use the GPS.
I've never tried it with my earbuds, just the cardo headset, but yeah it would be nice if it just worked! I never did get to try the gps on the dash. I just listen to google maps through the headset when I need it. Or try to memorize the route before leaving the house. lol
If you want to use a phone for gps/map/music and you're concerned about exposing it to rain or other damage, just use an older one without the sim card and keep your new one in your pocket. I guess this requires your plan is prepaid or allows keeping your old phone, but that is what I do. I turn on wifi hotspot on my new phone so the old one mounted on my bike gets traffic and weather data. I've even ridden in heavy rain for short periods with no problems, and it isn't even supposed to be water resistant.
I live in the UK, so I don't know if we have a different Bluetooth connector, but I have never had any problem with the connection, I do keep my phone in my top inside pocket of my leathers though.
I never tried with the navi, but I always just use google maps and listen to the directions. Although that's hard sometimes because it's so quiet in the helmet.
Was having a problem with mine but I disconnected my sena that goes to the phone and Bluetooth it directly to the bike. I still have a problem will taking calls media is just fine . But I assume if I get a mount and the connection will be way better
I have Bluetooth issues in my jeans with my cardo too Headset on left Phone on right pocket sometimes it will go out Cardo Headset is awesome so it's probably a Bluetooth issue
@@SethMichael its just like my Alienware laptop that tries to force you to using there Alienware control center that is complete garbage but they will on the same box they sent it to you claim "The best in the business" lol
I really like the akrapovic. The longer pipe isn't super loud, but if you go with the GP slip-on it's super loud. As for bikes, I think they'll probably be about the same depending on the exhaust you choose.
@@SethMichael Yeah they have been offering CarPlay and Android Auto for a few years now. They were even one of the first manufacturers to offer wireless carplay and android auto.

Who would think there would be a day that we would complain about using a phone on a motorcycle…..just ride

Nice!! Follow the Bay Area Riders page so you know when we’re out and about! Waiting for this damn rain to stop popping up.

Also have these problems with Bluetooth on the k67 and cardo. My mate also with a K67 has the same problems.
Glad I'm not the only one! Oh well. At least with connecting the headset and phone directly, we can play with the race pro modes!

I think having it in your front pocket like that is key. You've got the right idea!
Seth, I had the same problem when using the bmw connectivity for its nav app. It lost connection while I was trying to reach my destination
I never tried with the navi, but I always just use google maps and listen to the directions. Although that's hard sometimes because it's so quiet in the helmet.

I have Bluetooth issues in my jeans with my cardo too
Headset on left
Phone on right pocket sometimes it will go out
Cardo Headset is awesome so it's probably a Bluetooth issue
For now, I run everything on the left side. With direct connection, it works great! Or even sometimes if I put my phone in my riding jacket pocket.
man i have a 2022 and the Bluetooth is trash af
I connected it ONCE that was it and never again
I tried again the other day just so I could sync up to my bmw app for gas level, tire pressure etc, and nope.. Back to disconnecting. lol.

Bro which one is loud in exhaust sound
Zx10r or s1000rr ??

The only thing I hate about the s1k is that I don’t have one 🤷♂️ …but I’ll fix this issue
Should have gotten a Honda CBR1000.... Double Effin' 'R'!
Trust me, there's been a few times I've thought about going back to the CBR. But at the end of the day, I still love my s1000rr, lol
I wish they just did wireless carplay and android auto on the bike.
That would be awesome! But I imagine BMW just wants everyone to use their own software. Makes me curious about their cars, do they offer carplay?
@@SethMichael Yeah they have been offering CarPlay and Android Auto for a few years now. They were even one of the first manufacturers to offer wireless carplay and android auto.
You bought a race bike to ride on the street??
Of course. Isn't that what we're supposed to do? 😂
