    My teammate is committed to Brown and I think he’s like top 20 in the nation at 182 lbs he told me that it’s not about who has the biggest move set or who’s the strongest in college, it’s about who makes the least mistakes

    I think that one of the main differences so far from what I've gathered during my first college year is that most college guys have a lot better handfighting than high school kids. I don't think that technique in college is actually that much different than high school, but most of the time college guys seem to just be able to set up shots so much better than high school kids. I've noticed from going back home and rolling around with high school kids, even higher level high school kids, that a lot of them really can't keep up with the level of handfighting that college wrestling implements. I don't think that I'm necessarily faster or stronger than a ton of these guys but that change alone has elevated my game a ton.

    Yo that part about the college mentality in HS is what made me a beast! In my mind I was on the Iowa Hawkeyes. But then over time I had no one to train with because I was too brutal. And referees hated me for that stingy grinding style. So there is some diminishing returns.

    I know a very good former college wrestler who won 60% of his high school matches by pin. Many of those high school pins were against weaker and inexperienced opponents. In college, he said he was lucky to get more than one or two pins in a season of 25 to 30 matches. He said he always knew if he pinned a college wrestler, he had pinned a very powerful and accomplished opponent. And one of those college pins was much more satisfying to him as an athlete than all of his high school pins put together. Hope you become a great college pinner!!

    What you said at about 1:35 is true of any sport. A lot of athletes that are 'top dog' in HS on their teams quickly realize that their new teammates in college were 'top dogs' where they came from and YOU are no longer the 'big man' on the team. First thing pros say when they get out of college and get to the pros is that EVERYONE is good.

    Your a freshmen. Meaning you have an entire year to catch up in the weight room. People are usually very lazy in the weight room, so you'll be stronger in no time if your more consistent then the rest. I put 100 lbs on my squat, Noticed no one can cradle me at all. Put a 100 lbs on my deadlift and no one could even stop me from getting up from almost any position.

As a former athlete, now that I know my kid’s pretty much dominating, what would you suggest I put him in on his off time? I ask b/c baseball starts in the spring. And, any YT vids. you recommend that I should show him to get pumped up? He’s not too fond of the sport yet-but his matches he is literally killen it…? Just needs reinforcement/confidence to continue I think. 🙏

    When looking at College vs. High School wrestling, you have to remember the difference in desire between the two groups. In high school, some people wrestle just to be on the team or to be with friends. In college, that is completely different. Everyone who wrestles in college does it because they are really good or at least because they really like the sport. This difference alone makes college wrestling so much more difficult in competition. No match is easy in college because everyone who competes at a college level has chosen to take that step up.

    • @777Skeptic
      @777Skeptic ปีที่แล้ว

      I only wrestled high school, but I figured that's what the difference was. In high school, people were just trying it out as a hobby. In college, those guys are filtered out and the talent pool are the guys that made it to State.

Obviously but like their speed and their heavy hands is like “good lord save me!” At my club we have college and highschool practice together. I see that as a huge benefit because when I get back to regular high school wrestling, I’ll be used to the college speed and those heavy hands. Maybe you need a different perspective so since your already on TH-cam you should watch the python or the boa vs the tiger or the leopard or a python vs a boa and when you're wrestling you figure out which part of your body is the boa's mouth or the python's body!I would hate to be any of those guys when you figure it out !!!!!

    Do you think its harder to draw a stalling call on top due to the riding time?? It seems refs allow guys to straight up ride abd not work for a fall as much. The only thing a tattoo will tell ya is the guys got extra money to blow..... Those things can be expensive.

      In college yes its hard to get called for stalling on top. High school its very easy.
