While I am not a Kawasaki fan I could not agree with you more. 600cc sports have had excellent performance for the last 20 years, and offer a strong mix of street-ability and weekend track fun. Still there is a thrill to the challenge of trying to keep the front end down and the rear wheel planted on a high strung 1000cc race bike as you exit an apex...
You are so right. Bikes can be compared on all levels of performance and track times, but what really matters is your own personal taste. I am also a Honda guy but love Ducati as well!
it was 1 guy on every bike pushing them all to limits that would be fair. the new R1 sounds sweet but still a Honda fan, and you never notice difference of a few 10th's of seconds on the road. all spectacular bikes keep them coming :D
Hey guys!!! I had a lot of bikes. I do own the new R1 and had it on the race track and the street. And it is just an amazing bike all around. I never thought I would like it better then my 08 CBR 1000RR. I also have a 2009 GSXR 750 which by the way kicks ASS!!. And all I can say is the yamaha is so stupid easy to ride. And it's so smooth of an engine. Very flickable. Brakes are great!! And of course the M1 sound. Cheers to Yamaha!!!!
I think the driver is quite essential when doing these kinds of tests. You should use a single driver with equal experience of all models and brands. Also, if this test was made now in 2011 the bmw s1000rr would probably cut the edge, despite the advancement of the zx-10R. Would be interesting to include more exotic bikes as well such as the Aprilia RSV 4 Factory APRC SE -11. Like the video though.
@@michealortiz3350 Oh I'm not a native speaker so I didn't know there's such an important difference, in Swedish we say "förare" regardless, whereas rider to me sounds more passive like it could also refer to a passenger. Thanks for letting me know after all these years. ;)
The New R1 is massive. Regarding the body works you just need to get use to it and after you will start seeing all the other bikes as old. This Happened even with cars. In 1990's we were use to different type of cars so the new ones where totally different and everyone was saying it looks like they came from out of space. But now everyone got use to them and we started loving them
oO I thought it would be something like this: 1 - Ducati 2 - Yamaha or Suzuki 3 - Kawasaki 4 - Honda had the idea that the Fireblade was a very easy bike to ride but not so good on track
I am not surprised that the R1 won this comparison, however over 1 second a lap advantage is just incredible. From independent dyno tests the new R1 is also down on power compared to the other 1000cc's and even last year's bike, but somehow it seems as fast or faster in most speed contests. Power delivery, good chassis design and excellent suspension components trumps outright numbers so it seems.
Man you live in Motorcycle heaven! I've heard Austria has some beautiful scenery with amazing curvy roads! I'm a curves guy as well. I used to hate Ducati from the time they used to dominate AMA Superbike racing denying my beloved Kawasaki ZX7R several titles with Eric Bostrum at helm with the Green Blur! lol! But I have come to really like the bikes, and the color schemes they come in. Ducati does scream Superbike! I'd love to have one, but I'm a loyalist of Kawasaki since childhood!
Once again..this weekend I took notice at the dragsrtip, 19gsxr, 10 ZX10 -1-R6 -1-1000RR...NO R1's WTF The winningest bike in pro-stock,the winningest bike in endurance history-the most landspeed records--.Most wins on a superbike, back to back-Matt Madlin on a Gsxr. The Highest horsepower output at Daytona Horsepower Shootout in 2011 for 10 years running. YOU DONT NEED FRIENDS WHEN EVERYONE IS BEHIND YOU...ON A GSXR.When I finally get passed I will buy whatever it is and pass them, lol.
to be honest, a ride on the track vs a ride on the road is very very different. most 1000cc bikes aren't too good on the road with the 600cc's just loosing them due to the fact there are lots of fun corners :P much love to all those sexy bikes
I love the fireblade, the way it looks the feel , no wonder that bike wins all around competitions every year. The Yamaha is an amazing bike, dont no much about their new cross plane crank shaft havent ridden that bike yet. Ducatis are just power momsters, they have always been, but they handle like no other, only an Aprilia could compare
i have an R1 . But my use of my bike is daily grinding. At low speeds its very ruff. I think im gona trade it in for a honda since i dont do track days.
Yamaha made one heck of a racing bike with headlights and mirrors... amazing not a huge fan of those new headlights, but that thing must be orgasmic to take on the track...
I have the Kwak 636 myself and its a bullet. Why anyone would need...actually no one would need any more power than this. Its a pure want. 2nd for Kwak in this race :)
It is all about the rider. I was riding my GSX-R750 with my friends on a 06 CBR1000RR and a 07 ZX-10R and we met up with a guy on a 07 GSX-R1000 and the Honda and Suzuki left the ZX10R for dead. It wasn't because the Honda or Suzuki was faster it was because the guy on the ZX10 wasn't as crazy as the other 2. Even though you can afford to buy one it takes a lot of balls and skills to ride these bike to their full potential and most of us don't have either.
Very true, you have to the gonads to go deeo into the corners to effectively use the V twin torgue. I'm sure the test rider didn't ride someone elses bike to the max, which would hurt the Ducs times. Also depends on the track when it comes to V twins. I'm with you on the Fireblade, rode one through some twisties last Friday, it out handled a Gixxer 600 through some very tight corkscrews.
Yep I will have my CBR F2 till the day I die but I will definitely get additional bikes! There's a great Duc 748 in my local dealer for $6600 (little overpriced compared to what u can get from individual sales) but man it's a beauty! Keep the rubber side down.
it is a fact man... the r1 is clearly a rattle snake, the r6 the scorpion with its hands in front of its face, and before all models in yamaha were called ow... it was to get a sight of the sportcycle (the front) and it was to see to an owl... the last beautifull owl was the R7 OW2... THE MOST BEAUTIFULL BIKE EVER THAT I VE SEEN IN MY LIFE
206 kilo full. Mcn decided it's the best because it's the fastest round the track and they think awesome on the road. I think it's the best cus I've got one and I know how it go's and sounds
@mg16 Agreed. Fireblade is winning a lot of events. Although it takes really well to tuning afaik, so maybe they're just talking stock, which may leave it behind. Still thought the r1 woulda been back of that list for tracks in 2009. Methinks kawasaki shoulda been #1.

dont get me wrong i had a strong relationship with my r1 i loved it, we got alot of history together, i gave her up early this year for a ducati 848 an i tell you i have never looked back since, the sound she makes the way she moves she unbelieveable she moves me...DUCATI...YOLO
the test what i am talkin about is here and the mcn guys did. and also there is a comparative test among ducati 1198, aprilia, suzie k9, zx10r, cbr 1000 rr, and the R1 IN THE MOTOCICLISMO MAGAZINE and the final result is the same like this.
Depends on what you find fun yourself I guess. The ohlins and lightweight wheels make the bike feel so nice through the bends.carpet like smoothness yet can feel every bump. The one I rode must have been set up well. It is a different world from the in line 4s. it pulls like crazy everywhere
Top spot is already taken by Yam, let be 2009 or 2012. And for a bike in 1000 cc only bigger HP not always translates in to better performance. Handling is more important, which makes yamaha a better bike. Even in MotoGP, Ducati and Honda have more power than Yam, but still in last 7 years, it's been 5 world championships in MotoGP to Yamaha. Bring on those Kaw fans
@Telamonasaz, I have been riding 12 years and i am very happy in throwing one of these around. Plus a Motogp rider cannot ride on the road due to the bike not being a perfect setup for them and not perfectly smooth roads. plus i believe you mean the word think not thing.
@thegreatseal1991 I wont always be doing top speed runs. Sometimes it will just be a few exits on the freeway and definitely some wheelies and the size of the 10R is a factor because I do lean and having an extra 100lbs. wont always help. 2 guys that I ride with both have 14's so the Busa was my way of having something different but the 10R has always been my favorite bike since it came out. You have helped me make the decision. 10R it is. I cant wait to ride it. Thanks man.
@thegreatseal1991 Thanks a lot. I know I will love it and will definetely give it the respect I know and have heard it deserves. The 14 and Busa really weren't my style but I thought they would've been a more responsible choice. If I would've went that route I know I would probably have been kicking myself everytime I saw a10R going past me in a curve. I love throwing my 750 around and always wondered what it would feel like with a little more power and a few more pounds. With a 10R I will know.
I think Ducati needs to rethink some of their manufacturing if they come in third place with a larger engine (1198) as compared to the other smaller engings (1000's)
Just to be impartial and fair, I'd be willing to accept all of these and test them myself. As a public service, of course. And with the reasonable request that I keep any that survive my testing (it would likely end up as crash testing). A good title might be "Which of these spectacular bikes is least likely to kill the ordinary rider?"
Just ben spies the rider, the other r1's haven't got close to him. Lets be honest its down to the rider and them being comfortable with their machine. The r1 is actually less powerful which makes it easier to get the power down. The Ducati is powerful in a different way to the rest. If the riders got used to all the bikes properly and adjusted them and changed the exhausts, the results could hvae easily changed. I bet your find the new r1 has very good power delivery. Easy to use.
Lack of power at high revs, is only of relevance on a track (although it was still quickest on track) more grunt is what most bikers want for the road. p.s I have no axe to grind as I am a kawasaki fan
well r1 is obviously faster than a 600, but it is the slowest of all the 1000's and the handling is not even that great. so not sure mcn can make it sound like this was Gods gift to super bike riders. After trying one myself, and reading the other 16 shoot outs which confirm what I felt... I have to say I believe MCN was paid to rate it like they did. No one would be that dumb on their own
Accurate test should be made with same pilot. Dispite they are all ''pros'' there is always one better than the other, or else motogp would only have 1st places
@Telamonasaz i agree 100% but without people obsessing about the years fastest wonderbike and running out to buy it these sortbikes would be nowhere near what they are today
man unless you're on the valenti rossi level, all these bikes are great, i think it boils down to what you like personally, and as shallow as it sounds, looks.
I like the yamaha r1 the design is wonderfull and the power xDDDDD but I think it`s a motocycle for germany cause in germany on the highways you have no speed limits you can drive 200mph... I know because I`m a german guy xD
While I am not a Kawasaki fan I could not agree with you more. 600cc sports have had excellent performance for the last 20 years, and offer a strong mix of street-ability and weekend track fun. r1! right on! wish i had a new one, but im quite pleased with my 2005. 36,200+ miles...still no problems encountered.
I just got my first bike. GSX-R '01 - 1000. People say I have a beast. Can't wait to find out.

I confirm, GSX-R K9 is the best... R1 after him and Fireblade after R1
Their ratings on the bikes are probably as good as their video production...
🤣🤣😂
I still like the ZX10R. And its still the fastest from 0-top speed. Looks like Yamaha solved their lack of low end problems though
omg! the sound those bikes are making is completely heavenely....
oO

AGUSTA ROOLES !!!
Yea you got it man, the best bike EVER MADE!!!!
R1 is engineered not just with mathematically numbers but with passion..
That's why they make the best bike in the world
If you've only seen pictures of it, you should go check it out n the flesh. Just picked mine up this week, I'm absolutely lovin' it.
Yeah your right! It was an amazing V-twin engine, and rocked the Superbike world in the RC51. But it did lack the top end speed!

had r6 mate,rode r1.got k8..wicked machines,not a lot in it ..k8 i got in end..
Just curious how would the k5 k6 gsxr1000 do you think against the pack ?? Because as far as I know they had more brake HP than k7 k8
R1 FTW!!!! you see him doing wheelie and still the other bike didnt overtook him while he was just a few foot behind him

The bike that wins is that 2 stroke you can hear sounds wicked.
r1 is beating the game for 12 years now.
I have a 2008 R1 Raven and it is fast. At 10,000 rpm this bike takes off like a shot of nos
Is the Yamaha R6S any good? It's at a very cheap price for a 600cc sports-bike.
i just love yamaha r1 and other yamaha bikes cause i own a r1 its amazing bike
Based on the reviews, they say its uncomfortable on the road..Its soul purpose if for the race track but,I've seen a few R1's on the street..Not many though..Read about it..And ride one for yourself..
I would bet a 100USD on the R1. R1 still a legend.
Go Kawasaki! they still make the worlds fastest bike if im not much mistaken zx1400 has never been topped out. but if anyone knows the exact spec's and stuff fill me in.
Kawasaki by far the best!

agreed. i stick to 600. i might buy a 750 but nothing hire than that. but ducati isn't my thing. suzuki is my life. i like how the throttle feels. but that's just my opinion
right, the R1 is the best on corners so it took the lead in track, but in a stright way the ZX10 will knock they all out 200 hp.
Your so right there. How many millions to re-design engine and so on and skimped on a little heat shielding! Nevermind, Im sure those people with 09 R1's are pleased as I am sure I would be.
Since very few owners will race their bike, times are irrelevant. Buy what you want, and ride.
If you buy the bike for the road, what difference does 1 second more/less make in track down in Spain where you're never going to ride it?
+1 spot on comment. I agree totally.
Alot of these wannabe magazine testers can't ride for shit against proper real supersport riders, let alone the superbike riders.
Still, the R1 RULES ALL DAY LONG
dont get me wrong i had a strong relationship with my r1 i loved it, we got alot of history together, i gave her up early this year for a ducati 848 an i tell you i have never looked back since, the sound she makes the way she moves she unbelieveable she moves me...DUCATI...YOLO

i would vote for Kawasaki ninja ZX10r.....i guess the 2010 model is perfect competitor.... :)
The Isle of Man TT SuperStock Results -09 tell a different story.... :)
@thegreatseal1991 Thanks a lot. I know I will love it and will definetely give it the respect I know and have heard it deserves. Ben Spies's new yamaha is unstopable in SBK, Valentino should dominate too.
When not ridden on go-kart tracks both the Fireblade and the Gixxer jump up the rankings - and the R1 goes backwards.
BMW s1000rr I want to see that one on the track

@Telamonasaz i agree 100% but without people obsessing about the years fastest wonderbike and running out to buy it these sortbikes would be nowhere near what they are today
i would try to register it in the U.S. or something and then have it shipped if that's a possibility?
This isnt a test of how they perform on the road, but how they perform around a TRACK.
Congrats to Yamaha - they finally got the R1 back to its midrange roots
The Stig should give it a go around.
how abt Suzuki ? i like GSX but i wanna know how it stands against R1 ?
why the gsx-r k9 is the last? i can't understand for the noise... problems for k9?
since the R1 came out, I cant consider anything else - really moved the game on..
man unless you're on the valenti rossi level, all these bikes are great, i think it boils down to what you like personally, and as shallow as it sounds, looks.
I like the yamaha r1 the design is wonderfull and the power xDDDDD but I think it`s a motocycle for germany cause in germany on the highways you have no speed limits you can drive 200mph...
I know because I`m a german guy xD
