    Love the channel! Ordered some parts for a Scout II Dana 44 front axle from you guys a while back, but I actually put that axle in my 50' Willys truck.

    Hi guys, I'm in Australia and I've just found a 1980 Scout II Terra. It's a pick up. I'm totally in love with it. Can you give me any ideas on cost to up grade to air conditioning, power steering? Could you supply any parts?

    After all that work, time an money, to only use a 4.8? Not an aluminum 5.3?

    Sounds nice! What exhaust is on the vehicle?

    • @jeremydunworth1628
      @jeremydunworth1628 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think it is just a standard exhaust, nothing special.

    So my dad had a 1974 Scout II that only had a pullout 4X4 knob on the center dash. It had lockout hubs but no transfer shifter by the automatic shifter. Was that a standard set up at the time?

    • @joehajek5576
      @joehajek5576 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      IH called that “ Silent Drive “ . It was a single speed, aluminum case, IH design with no low range. I think it was probably the standard t-case, but I’ve only come across 2 examples ever.

    • @jf8461
      @jf8461 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Those aluminum chain-drive cases were junk. Mine literally exploded. I swapped mine for a DANA 20 2-speed that is pretty stout.

      Yes that was the standard setup in the 4x4 option. I know for a fact up till the 78 model year anyway. See I bought two new Scout II in the 70’s. The first was a standard 4x4, nothing fancy just 4x4, with that single speed transfer case a 258 AMC 6 cyl. With an optional Torque-Flite 727,3speed auto. With the standard 3:23 gearing ran fine in traffic, cruised at 75 all day long, but didn’t get great mileage at 14-19 mpg. But off road, especially in soft beach sand it was terrible, oh it never really got stuck because all it would do is bog down, like doing a power brake without any power! I bought it new, a 73 “left over” when I was Honorably Discharged from The Army. I came home with some savings, wanted a new Blazer V8, but only had enough for the Scout II, that at $6,600 brand new was a screaming deal! But in a year and a half I got tired of having to tell my friends to get out with me to push in deep sand while my girlfriend drove!! So one day I was at the dealer trying to get a new good release cable and saw a new Special Edition Scout II in the showroom, it was love at first sight! Having a great teamsters truck driving job at my family’s Mom& Son trucking company, I had a great trade and money to make payments! But instead of the Scout in the showroom that was just sold, I specially ordered a Special Edition, but instead of a Reg Scout II RV, I ordered a new TERRA pickup! Special Edition in canyon black with the Special Edition Gold steel rock climbing style wheels, three gold stripes down the side from side marker to side marker, plus they also came with the slotted black plastic grill like was on the SS II! The interior had dark green pillow top bucket seats, padded door panels with chrome strip and wood paneling, black padding dashboard with wood graining and machine turned aluminum around the gauges, plus the same sport steering wheel that’s in the video! It was basically loaded with auto, AC, tinted windows and removable white fiberglass cab roof! But power was not going to be a problem! NOT with a 345/4brl V8, with dual exhausts, plus 3:55 Detroit Locker in the rear, as you could piece meal anything you wanted in an International back then! The total cost? $ 9,980!!! That truck was a beast! It could tow my fathers 28’ travel trailer like it wasn’t even there! Better in fact than dads 78 Lincoln Town Car 460/4 brl!! I put a 2” lift, custom Koni Adjustable Racing Shocks, an International Roll bar, two in fact, one inside the cab, with braces and one in the bed, braced to the rear wheel well. Man do I miss that truck! I had to sell it in a year and a half, due to a teamsters strike at Dads Trucking Company!!!

    The original 345 ci engine is not known for high-end performance. It is a low-rpm torquey truck engine that is build pretty stout, but probably not suited to most modern day drivers liking.

    • @jeremydunworth1628
      @jeremydunworth1628 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In this truck the 345 was a pain to keep running, constantly leaked oil, and got terrible mpg. The truck was basically unusable because I never knew when it would stall. Perhaps a more skilled mechanic could have kept the old engine functional.

      @@jeremydunworth1628 Mine was same, lifters would go out, super bad mpg, 10 mpg no matter whether loaded or empty, hills or flats. Guzzler. Modern engines are so much better, as long as no AFM on the 5.3L. That is horrible tech.
