    I have a '77 IH Scout2, that was my Grandfathers, then my dads, then mine. It makes me HAPPY to see you guys, showcasing, this vehicle. It took me 8 years, to find an excellent mechanic, who knew what it was and what he was doing, on it. 18 months, and tons of parts hunting later, The beast is Alive and Growling. Now, to save up for the Paint...

    The vin tag on the passenger side should be upside down. Another way to tell if its a real SSII. I just inherited my great grandfathers SSII. Looks exactly like this! I need to get it back on the road soon!

    Subscribed from Australia. Just found a renewed interest in the IH Scout. Getting pretty rare and expensive here.

    SSII Will have an ID plate inside the drivers side fender. You have to remove the fender to see it.

    First giveaway this wasn't an SSII would be the front drums. An SSII would have come with Discs.

    A 77 with drum brakes up front is odd. Is the front a dana 44?

    It's always best to keep a classic original, however I'd do the same as the owner and continue with the ss project.

    New subscriber here. Almost ready to pull the trigger on one. Do you think 12k is too much for a 1979 solid body with hard top? Everything is there and has been sitting in garage for years.

    Be sure and Brace the body before you take it off the frame or it will fold up at the doors.

    Is that a '73? Has drum brakes too. You should switch it out to disc brakes in the front.

    • @musthaveclassics
      @musthaveclassics  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is a 77 but in a future video it will show us switching to front discs and power brakes

      @@musthaveclassics It has some earlier parts then - front disc was standard by '75 and the VIN tag under the hood was only done on early Scout IIs. SSII Should have it down on the passenger kick panel. I have a SSII clone I am fixing up so Im sure Ill be following along..

      That grille is from a 75 or so. The SSII grille is plastic. They cut out part of the grille slats to resemble a SSII. Since it has drum front brakes, I wonder if at some point the Scout sustained front end damage and parts from an earlier model were used to repair. That would account for the grille and brakes. On a hunch, I would double check that the front axle is a Dana 44 as it should be. With drums, it could have been replaced with a Dana 30.

    I’ll tell you this, that is not an SSII Grill! They were made of black tough plastic, plus what year did you say it was? Because the SSII started in model year 77, with disk brakes in front! With a Danna 44 axle in both ends! Plus the roll bar looks a little thin to me. How do I know this? I was in the market for an SSII, I came very close to buying one, a nice red with black graphics like the gold on the above Scout II. Plus a 304, 4 speed. But I ended up buying a cool Terra Truck instead and a good friend bought the SSII!

    Sounds like your timing is to far advanced, it’s piping threw the carb too and it’s fighting the starter. Retard the the timing and she’ll purr like a kitten
