- (26 Feb 2020) Pakistan's military on Wednesday marked the upcoming first anniversary of the downing of an Indian Mig-21 fighter aircraft and the capture of its pilot by taking several media outlets to the area where the plane came down.
Indian pilot Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman was captured on 27 February 2019 when his plane was shot down close to Horran village, near the Line of Control that divides the contested Kashmir region between Pakistan and India.
The Mig-21 jet caught fire and crashed after Pakistan's Air Force planes taking part in 'Operation Swift Retort' engaged with Indian fighter aircraft over the volatile frontier between the two countries.
Tensions between India and Pakistan had been running high since Indian aircraft launched a strike in Pakistan in response to a suicide bombing in Indian-controlled Kashmir that killed 40 troops on February 14, 2019.
Pakistan and India have fought two of their three wars over Kashmir since their independence from British rule in 1947.

It is really incomprehensible how PAF was able to get the better of IAF which is many times bigger.
The problem was BVR capabilities. IAF has better warplanes but the problem is BVR. Indian bureaucrats and politicians are responsible for this. I don't understand why cannot we transfer the power to the military or the private sector. There is a reason why the government is into privatisation of defence industry. Pakistan had an advantage bcoz they used AMRAAMs while India had to face using inferior R-77 of 80km.

Sir, if you look at world record, Pakistan has it in the Air Force side of things, where it shot down 4 or 5 planes within an x amount of time. AA Alaam was the ace pilots name, and that too was against india. In my humble opinion, the PAF may be smaller but it has the edge on the Indian IAF. The Army and Navy may not, but, the airforce def does.

As an Indian, I can say that the bureaucrats are responsible for this loss. They do not do their work and we did not get better BVR missiles to counter Pakistan. Also, HAL is the worst PSU. It could not even develop an LCA Tejas which was supposed to replace MiG-21s. We must focus on our defence issues rather than celebrating on what Godi Media says.

One question for you ,if India won all wars from Pakistan than how the hell 35-40% of Kashmir is under Pakistan administration. It tell us all story about your Indian government and media lies.
