Everyone misunderstood the greatest achievement of the Balakot Airstrike, which definitely isn't the amount of damge that IAF inflicted, Strike put out the capabilities of the both countries, Balakot is an official Pakistan Territory not of the POK, Indian Air force carrying out Strike in Pakistan's land as retaliation is something that shows that INDIA can able to strike for more than just POK.
2 IAF jets shot down, 1 Indian army chopper shot down in panic by friendly fire. 1 pilot captured and humiliated in front of international media. You call that capability? In 21st century tactical battle handbook that's a humiliating defeat for such a well funded, untrained force.

Pakistan always showed only 2 missed bombs in balakote but never allowed the media to go to the training camp or the madrasa. In fact to this day only a very much Pakistani intelligence staged visit with controlled interviews is all that is available of the madrasa after the strikes

IAF needs some deep soul searching. Balakot incident was a rude awakening. The fact that more than a dozen Pakistani plans entered indian space in broad day light, dropped bombs and than not only left unscathed but also shot down an IAF plan and captured its pilot....is just mind boggling.
If it wasn't sufficient, a chopper was also shot down in friendly fire and precious live lost.
Yes, Abhinandan's award may have been a good cover up to irritate the Pakistanis but let be honest with ourselves and never repeat those mistakes which we shamefully committed at that fateful day .

if you watch the BBC urdu coverage of the Pakistani intelligence staged visit, it is very clear that it was very much a drama organized for the day. Pakistani media coverage only showed 2 of the bombs and the creations left by the 2 but what about the rest, the other 4 bombs? where did they go?
The facts of the actions apart, Balakot incident frightened Pakistan so much, that they scrambled to send Abhinandan across in haste, without any time wasted. They didn't even hold him long enough for a proper interrogation. They are still rattled, if their reaction to our ' Misguided Missile' is any indication.
It's also possible that pakistan returned back indian pilot in Good faith and to not escalate tensions.

Balakot and it's aftermath was a rude awakening to the IAF, Claims and counter claims aside, we know a MiG 21 was shot down and it's pilot captured, and IAF helicopter was shot down by friendly fire taking the lives of 6 officers, that in itself raised a lot of questions, I hope they learnt the lesson in this skirmish, because they cannot afford to be complacent after this.

@@mlg1279 Actually neutral sources say that targets of significance were not bombed, but IAF says that spice bombs do not leave a characteristic crater or scorch marks instead it penetrates into a building and then explodes from inside, which version is correct I do not know. However IAF should learn important lessons from this, if their targeting systems failed during the bombing run, Identifying friendlies, Also to get rid of those ancient MiG 21s and use at least 4th gen Aircraft that support BVR missiles, with which the IAF Mig21 was apparently shot down with.
When Balakot Strike happened, I was preparing for MPPSC 2019. After 4 years, I am still preparing for MPPSC 2019.

The Balakot incident was indeed a learning curve for both the countries Air Forces... It is difficult to say if both the countries decided to restrain from using their SAMs.. because both of them were in each other's Airspace and didn't get their planes taken down by a SAM.. to be frank it looks obvious that both sides showed restraint from using SAMs, because having planes taken down in a dogfight is totally different from using SAMs.. that's a high level escalation, which was avoided by both sides.. unfortunate incidents of friendly fire did happen post-balakot when we shot our own Mi-17 thinking it was a Pakistani aircraft..
Sometimes I think, the entire chain of events was a fixed match between both the govts. From Pulwama to Balakot to Swift Retort. On 27th Feb, IAF should have been ready for that announced retaliation by PAF but instead, IAF only sent 2 Migs and later 2 Sukhois to intercept PAF's 24 fighter offensive package. IAF played cool that day, gave PAF some reasons to save the face and IAF did not retaliate or accelerated the situation. PAF also just came for a show and no damage was done by their bombs. Still, we lost a fighter and they captured our pilot who was in Pakistan's custody for less than 100 hours. Even if Pakistan went by established international norms, they could have held our pilot for a couple of weeks. Recall how long Nichketa was held by Pak in 1999. The swift release of our pilot gave our govt a face saving grace.
We do not talk much about Pulwama. We should.
Also the things with SAMs. IAF did fire SAM that day but it hit our own chopper.

IAF sucks most of the procurement budget with prestige weapon systems and when it comes to actual operations, it is never satisfactory. Right from the botched procurement of Su 30MKIs to still on going tussle with army to curtail army aviation arm. Navy right now is the only military arm that has a sensible procurement startegy. God forbid if India ever have to use combined arms operations in the future, IAF will again be the achilles heel unless some drastic restructuring is done.
I can't believe, even after Balakot fiasco, babus of IAF have no plans for procuring capable EW systems, awacs, airborne refullers, etc etc. Hey but atleast IAF chief's son got to fly the rafale with his dad. So that's that.

Losing a mig 21 was foregone conclusion when you don't pay attention to your armed forces.
India lost a MiG, pilot captured , lost a helicopter and its men in friendly fire. Also india missed the target building, most importantly. IAF failed to execute the plan. This is the general conclusion after 4 years by independent observers

Indian defense is to improve its technical experts by training at regular intervals.
Biggest adavantage of Balakot was Pak Nuclear bluff, Not able to do anything after 370 article and not major attack on India since Pulwama send's a clear that India will retaliate to that kind of a attack on Indian Soil.
With astra MK2 & meteor we have sorted out the BVR problem, but the question is was indias SAM systems sleeping when pakistani fighter jets crossed LOC , we all know that pakistani SAMs r worthless ,balakot nd accidental firing of brahmos is great example

The post Balakot strike was a complete fiasco where we shot down our own helicopter and one of our fighter strayed into Pakistani airspace and thereby getting shot down.
What isn't covered in our news is our fighters couldn't get a lock on Pakistani fighters and therefore couldn't fire missiles against them.

Sadly this is correct. It was a fiasco of the highest order. Very fair commentators have also said that the strike militarily hit nothing. It did communicate a more aggressive posture to Pakistani terrorists who has always felt safe on that soil. For the first time they felt scared. This time IAF missed. Next time they won’t. Secondly - our aging fleet’s inferior capabilities were again laid bare. Decades of inaction has culminated in this. We need new aircraft and fast. Can’t bring knives to win a shootout.

Can’t he with the resources he has at The Print find out whether Masood Azhar has been seen anywhere after that strike. Recently the Pakistanis stated before FATF that Masood Azhar has left Pakistan or Pakistani occupied territory and escaped into Afghanistan. The Taliban promptly denied it saying that Azhar never entered Afghanistan. If Masood Azhar has not been sighted and even Pakistan couldn’t locate him for FATF purposes, isn’t it logical to assume that the bearded beast Masood Azhar got eliminated in the Balakovo strike?

It is not important how many bombs missed or reached their target. What is the impact of surgical strike? It is clearly visible no major terrorist attack happened again.

What higher resources? IAF was on patrol duty, PAF had a strike unit. PAF outnumbered IAF 6:1 in Jammu area yet they couldn't breach our airspace. The whole contact wouldn't barely last any more than 10 mins, you can't get other aircrafts that quickly for backup. And the fact that our Mig21 crashed in POJK, is enough to prove that who was pursuing who (Don't tell me it's momentum, jets run away from missiles if fired upon, and nobody would survive a head-on missile hit)
@@shenanigans4177 mate PAF entered your indian airspace successfully targeted your military installations shooting down a sukhoi and Mig 21 bison abhinandan didn't even know where he was PAF electronic jamming was very effective he was paraded around and till this day neber mentioned about shooting down a F16 infact the Mig 21 missiles were all still intact there was never any evidence of any F16 shotdown this was 2019 you cannot hide if a fighter plane has been shot down. Morever all india did was use stand alone weapons and hit trees lol pak came the next morning in broad daylight and embarassed you. India couldnt escalate after loosing 2 fighter planes and a helicopter

Higher resources in terms of budget...the fact that indian fighters still lag behind paf in bvr combat and awacs is beyond comprehension...the fact that we couldnt establish decisive air superiority is shameful...the reasons are obviously we don't have enough modern hardware vis a vis paf despite having a overall militsry budget 6 times larger

I think we are obsessed with who shot down what. Let's assume India missed in Balakot. Let's also assume paksitanis shot down 10 Indian aircraft for loss of none. The fact now remains that for 4 years there has been NO major terror strike in India. India has basically rendered the pak army with almost 10 billion dollars defense budget completely useless with no plan of action against India. Pakistan has gone bankrupt. The strategic losses India has imposed are immense.
The exact same thing keeps hapening in Kashmir..and the reason ther are no terrorist strikes in India is because of Imran.

Unguided and scared Indian Air force attack balakot in night time but on the next day on broad daylight India loose two of it's jests and one Helicopter with six officers. A circus of Abhinandhan, and still Modi Jee won. Great achievement of Indians.

Chacha jee the company who makes f16 also counts them and they found all Pakistan F16 intact. Baki you forgot India at tht day in confusion shot down its own helicopter, Pakistan did not Claim shooting it down. Anyways Modi jee thanda hogaye they tested Pakistan patience twice for thr own political gains.
It was th IAF itself which said their antiaircraft guns shot down their own helicopter because FOF was not switched on for some reasons. IAF did't try to cover it up like what PAF did with their downed F16. They did't even give a proper burial to the downed Pilot. Poor chap. Its a curse to be in Pak. Is't it ?

@@ravikrishnamurthy I am not fan of my army but we were discussing that incident so on tht day PAF out perform IAF. Rest yes economy is in bad shape mainly because of wrong policies and worst flooding in the history. We are trying to get through this but tht doesn't mean we will not survive this.
Balakot was a futile exercise. Over Hyped for political gains. Overall nothing happened, nothing achieved.

The missile which you are talking about fired by abhinandan to supposedly destroy the pakistani f-16 is still in pakistans custody (unfired) along with the other wreckage of the downed aircraft. Abhinandan did not down a f-16. Period.

We Indians do too much chest thumping for balakot but the truth is bitter . We lost a helicopter full of officers by friendly fire and one of our pilot was captured. I don't care what Pakistan or any other country is saying, what is important is that it became just another ugly stalemate rather than a clean operation.
yes it draws up parallels to what is happening to Russians in the Ukraine war.. Russians are great in front of their country but actually, they are being butchered by advanced weapons from the west. Though IAF can please domestic audiences, balakot strikes exposed a lot of shortcomings of IAF. Pakistan came announced during the day that India should have given a very blunt response. Their intelligence had a very good grasp of IAF's capabilities and shortcomings.
IAF is incompetent and garbage. An airforce that holds the world record for the most number of crashes can not take on even myanmar’s airforce 💀
