  • Been oil pulling since Feb 2021 and it has improved my oral hygiene in ways I did not expect. In this video, I guide you through the process of oil pulling, a practice rooted in Ayurveda for better oral hygiene. Dispelling doubts and sharing my personal journey, I explain the simple technique of swishing oil in the mouth for 15 minutes. Backed by studies, I explore its benefits, from reducing plaque to potential impacts on cavities and bad breath.

      Do you need to rinse with water after oil pulling? Because it’s what I do, I rinse afterwards.

      @@user-zv3rk6wk1l I personally don't rinse after oil pulling in the morning, instead I do usually just go with my normal morning routine of breakfast and tea.
      Unlike other methods like Xylitol, which recommends not rinsing/eating right after and letting it linger in your mouth, oil pulling doesn't have the same type of post procedure recommendations.

    As a physical therapist I can confirm that many health professionals are trained to sell/push their specific expertise and avoid any knowledge that might make their expertise obsolete or might challenge the foundation of their practice. It is a bit cultish honestly, but I personally am always looking for ways to make my profession obsolete and bring the best information and alternatives to the public because we should all have the tools to care for our bodies and minds.

    I started to get sensitivity and nerve pain, despite brushing twice a day and daily flossing. The dentist couldn't find anything wrong and recommended toothpaste for sensitive teeth. But the pain got worse and worse. So I tried oil pulling, not expecting too much. I found oil pulling with coconut oil made my mouth feel better and temporarily numbed the pain, so I did it twice a day. On day 5 a small piece of tarter was dislodged from a molar. The pain lessened immediately and I could feel that the source of the nerve pain was gone. So I think oil pulling is wonderful and will continue.

    Thank you for sharing this. I saw that your video was over 15 minutes long and decided to use it as a distraction while I tried oil pulling. My gums were sensitive and sore in some areas. After the 15 minutes of oil pulling my gums are no longer sore or sensitive. I will be adding this to my daily routine.

    What I really miss in the scientific explanation why oil pulling works is the physical aspect. The muscles of the lips and cheeks used for swirling the viscous oil are situated around the gums. These muscles don't get used intensely an awful lot (unless you're a Casanova I guess) and swirling intensely for 15 - 20 minutes can have a major impact on the blood flow to these muscles. Thereby increasing blood flow (and all the goodies that it brings) to the gums as well. I remember these muscles complaining especially the first few days but after a few weeks I felt the need to up the intensity.
    Solvents dissolve substances that are alike, polar solvents dissolve polar compounds, non-polar (aka apolar) solvents dissolve non-polar substances. If you're a bacteria in a polar (water based) environment, trying not to be flushed away, it makes a lot of sense to encapsulate yourself in a non-polar film (i.e. plaque). Oils are relatively apolar solvents, meaning they stand a far better chance in swirling away non-polar substances than water and saliva, simply by dissolving them.
    Just some observations and physics + anatomical background by a chemical engineer.

      Niceee, I appreciate the detailed explanation of how the oil interacts with the mouth crevasses, which also seems to be a part of how it works. I haven't found this explanation anywhere else but I bet that the swishing motion and consistency of oil are contributing factors to why it works. Yet again, appreciate the comment :D

      Yup, it breaks down plaque! I would not recommend reusing the oil. It becomes foggy and mixes with your bacteria, plaque and saliva (expanding in volume and also losing its potency).@@quanganhct

      @@MasterEverydayLivingBut you think it’s okay to reuse what you spit in the glass when you’re trying work your way up to 15minutes? I love coconuts. Love the juice and the oil, but whoa…..if that stuff doesn’t make me gag pulling it.
      I feel kind of grossed out by reusing the oil in the cup, even if I can only swish it for 2 minutes without gagging. So, I just use another tablespoon of oil and keep doing that until I get to a total of 15minutes. Costs more, but I’m hoping I won’t always need to do that. And I’ll get over how gross i5 makes me feel. I do like how the teeth feel after words.

    The reason dentist say oil pulling doesn't work or don't recommend it is quite simple, they are in a business of making money and they don't want to give away/lose that business. The way dentistry is practiced here in the us is vastly different from other countries, because business is booming when it comes to teeth.

    I'm a 64 year old new subscriber, you got me with this video. Tongue scraping, oil pulling... have been part of my morning routine (on and off) for many years. It"s great to see a young person talking about Ayurveda and its benefits, I believe in Ayurveda 100%. I only have to say, I was taught to do both first thing in the morning, first the tongue scraping then, the oil pulling and never ever swallow that, it's all toxins that you are going to bring back to your system. I never thought of spitting it out in the compost! What a great idea, I will start tomorrow. Keep informing such good stuff to us your subscribers!

    I've been brushing my teeth just with coconut oil and a pinch of baking soda for about 8-10 years now. Completely ditched the toothpaste or other dental products. Brushing and flossing once, sometimes twice a day. I've seen massive improvement in my dental hygiene. I should definitely incorporate oil pulling in my daily routine to get the complete benefits.

      @@subhasaravanan2471 Yup, no toothpaste whatsoever except sometimes very rarely I make my own toothpaste out of coconut oil, green clay and baking soda. Dont use mouthwash, but sometimes rarely I rinse with herbal teas.

    I just swished castor oil with 1 drop of spearmint oil for 5 minutes while watching your video. Castor oil is showing to be more effective and efficient, since you only need 1-2 teaspoons and 2-5 minutes vs the 20 minutes needed with coconut oil.
    I saved a protein powder container and am spitting my oil in there till it's full. I'll keep it in my bathroom.

      I was not aware of this and used castor oil for 20 minutes. Nothing fell out yet. As far as teeth ot fillings. But I'm worried now

    From what I was reading about oil pulling, it works through osmosis - oil makes it easier to pull the bacteria through the gums and not just from your mouth but all the body; with time. Hence we should get healthier, less prone to infections apparently and even skin looks better :) Also due to this, after done with the pulling, the oil / saliva mix becomes quite toxic - full of bacteria, so we should definitely spit it out and then thoroughly brush the teeth and make sure there's no residue, and also clean the sink properly. What I love about it is that when you do it in the evening, you wake up with a nice breath.

    I've been doing it for 2 weeks , everyday , I feel my teeth get whiter and cleaner and stronger . I'm going to do it until the rest of my life as I hate going to the dentist . Thank you . Now , I have to polish my false tits first 🙏

    I highly recommend you research xylitol (birch tree sugar) and its effects on the mouth’s microbiome with similar curiosity and passion. I think it might lead you to a better understanding of “why oil pulling works” and it’ll give you another tool in your functional medicine toolbox. The micro biology of it all is very fascinating and not that complex at an entry level.

    Most people suffer from gum erosion due to the mechanical abrasion of tooth brushing. If oil pulling is found to be as effective as morning tooth brushing, replacing our morning brushing routine with oil pulling would reduce gum erosion, caused by brushing, by 50%.
    Gum erosion caused by the mechanical abrasion of tooth brushing is a recognized issue in dentistry, and it's relatively common. Many people may experience some degree of gum recession or erosion over time, especially if they brush too vigorously or use improper brushing techniques. According to studies and dental professionals, a significant portion of the population may be affected by gum erosion to some extent.
    As we age, gum erosion increases. If oil pulling is found to be as effective as morning tooth brushing, and therefore can replace it, the benefits of oil pulling might greatly improve the lives of people suffering from eroding gums due to the mechanical abrasion of tooth brushing. For people brushing twice a day, substituting oil pulling for tooth brushing in the morning might reduce their gum erosion, due to the mechanical abrasion of tooth brushing, by 50%.
    If oil pulling is found to be as effective as morning tooth brushing, it could provide a major improvement in dental care and could also save billions each year in reduced dental costs by reducing gum erosion problems caused by the mechanical abrasion of tooth brushing.

    I just started oil pulling 2 days ago and quickly learned a sugar spoon (yes, those exist) size works best. My mouth is not that big and with braces I had to have multiple teeth removed just to make all the necessary teeth fit.
    I decided to do the oil pulling just before bed so far because for me and braces, by the end of the day there a lot of build up that I can not reach without my regular at-home dental tools during the day so that timing has quickly proven to be the best. Additionally, but in two days, I notice immediately the smoothness on the inside of my teeth and I recently had a deep cleaning 3 days prior to starting this and now that is completely healed which I was shocked at because the doctor date it would take up to 10 days for the inflammation from the cleaning to go down completely.

    Another tip is to add a few drops of food grade essential oils to the carrier oil like spearmint to help increase its effectiveness.

    Started oil pulling two weeks ago with a feeling that there has been some improvement. Because the mornings are used for other procedure ( chewing cloves ) I do oil pulling in the evening several hours after eating and just before brushing my teeth. I just had a cleaning so this will be a year long experiment for me.

      @@timtrainage 😂 I thought the same thing. You're suppose to rinse it out after a minute. They said the turmeric is an antibacterial.
      The guy also has another step before you oil pull. You are supposed to wash out your mouth with warm Himalayan salt water for a minute, oil pull for five minutes, then do the turmeric. They said this technique is hundreds of years old. Oh yeah, you are supposed to mash cloves into your oil then strain it in a mortar. The cloves are really good for you too.

    i saw a recomendation in one of the oil pulling videos to brush or otherwise clean your teeth right after your oil pulling session. the idea is that the bacteria dissolved in the oil-saliva mix are more prone to infiltrate your teeth especially in harder to get places, areas and micro cavities or cracks or under you gums or whatever else. idk, this need further investigation, but i think it's better safe than sorry, so i personally do it before brushing.
    i also do xylitol pulling after my meals and then i don't wash my mouth, because it is benefitial to keep xylitol in your mouth as long as possible.

      I tried some natural toothpastes (like Neem and baking soda bases) in the past but never looked fully into it or formed an opinion around em (I was allergic to the neem one thou...). So I don't have a strong opinion on them but with that said, ill have to revisit and experiment natural toothpastes down the road!

    I am going to do this
    Brush n floss at night, oil pull when I wake up , then after I eat breakfast I will do my mouthwash
    I have gum disease n just got a deep cleaning done, so I got to fight off the gum disease n heal up my gums, my deepest gum pockets were 5mm
    After I get rid of the gum disease n my gums get healed up some, I won't do the mouthwash as much, I know to much mouthwash can kill the good bacteria
    This oil pulling seems to be a life savor for your teeth n gums, I been studying how to get rid of gum disease n heal up gums n this one lady fought gum disease off good n got a lot of her gums healed up to 3mm pockets except a few were still deep pockets but she was doing all kinds of stuff n spent a lot of money on the stuff she bought, after studying this stuff more it seems this oil pulling is a big main part n just brush n floss n maybe do mouthwash for awhile if you want to do mouthwash, n you will be good to go unless your gum disease is beyond healing n you got to get your teeth pulled or they will eventually fall out
    I just got 2 crowns, 3 fillings, n one tooth pulled- cost about $4000 to do all this including the deep cleaning n laser cleaning
    After years of not taking care of my teeth good, like for 30 years I just brushed mainly most the time n never got my teeth cleaned by a dentist in those 30 years, my teeth n gums got destroyed some, I should of got my teeth cleaned at least once every 2 years n I might of never got gum disease
    People take care of your teeth really good n get them cleaned by the dentist once in awhile
    I had some older people tell me 'take care of those teeth' n wondered why they were telling me this, now I know- cause of gum disease, n many people have to get all their teeth pulled out cause of it
    Once in awhile I ask some people why they got all their tooth pulled out n they didn't really understand why n just had it done n got dentures, well it is because of gum disease most the time
    Dentist said if I would of waited a few more years I would of lost all my teeth, I am 49 years old right now
    Also people I been studying root canals n the reason I got a tooth pulled n didn't get a root canal was because root canals get infected n some worse then others, many people had root canals getting infected even when it was a really good root canal job that they can do for root canals, it seems it's to hard to get all the destructive bacteria out of the tooth when doing a root canal cause theirs like 6 miles of really small tubes in the tooth n they can't clean all these really small tubes out
    A root canal tooth infection can cause other problems with body if not pulled n if you don't get rid of the infection,the infection can travel to other parts of the body n through the blood, I had a root canal done over thirty years ago n I am going to get it 3D exrayed n pulled if infected, n it's seems like its infected
    So watch out for root canals,you might just want to get it pulled-:if you get it pulled you will save lots of money n maybe even more problems with your body from the root canal infection
    Some peoples bodies can handle a root canal infection n it won't mess them up much, while others people's immune system can't handle it good n that infection will cause other problems
    One study said that out of like 40,000 teeth pulled that were root canals they were all infected
    This one lady said after she had her 2 root canals pulled one wasn't bad when it got pulled but the other one had a horrible taste when it came out n that was from the infection in the root canal

    After using xylitol my gums became so sore and red I did it for 3 months and I found it was good for dry mouth but the sensitivity in my gums and teeth were unbearable I’m now back to oil pulling all my sensitivity is gone.

    I recommend taking the used oil to a recycling facility. In Spain we have recycling bins for oil in the streets. You just have to put it in a plastic bottle and they dispose of it.
    Oil pollution is quite a big deal, it affects freshwaters and more.

    i came from your other channel's video on oil pulling, but i just wanted to comment on Jasmine by DPR LIVE playing in the background. i will start oil pulling today (literally this morning, in like 5 minutes) Thank you for the info, I'll add clove (after grinding it up in a coffee grinder) and maybe i'll experiment with other things. in the other video you mentioned experimenting with turmeric, but did it stain? i may just keep the turmeric for my face masks because i do care about the whiteness of my teeth, but i'm interested if you ever used it !!

      Can't go wrong with a background beat that bops!
      I really think experimentation is key, can't go wrong with some A/B testing. The turmeric did not stain my teeth but after doing it for awhile, I didn't notice any significant changes so I stopped adding turmeric to my oil pulling.
      On a random turmeric note, I am experimenting with Curcumin pills (one of the main ingredient in Turmeric) and it is doing wonders for specific inflammation issues that I have (finger joints from climbing).

      I love adding as much goodness as I can into my daily routine, so on another turmeric note:
      I have my whitening strips on now but after, I'll have a warm morning drink in which I throw in a tablespoon of chia seeds, a dash of cayenne pepper, a dash of turmeric, lemon juice, apple cider vinegar, a pinch of pepper, with a tea bag for flavour and extra benefits.
      I like having it as the first thing I ingest and adding a little bit of everything isn't overpowering. But it makes sure every day I get a shot of benefits and immunity. I don't have any inflammation but with things like oil pulling, it's all preventative and to keep things good!
      I also do lymphatic drainage and keep things moving and then I stopped for about a week, then my body was like "huh? why aren't the lymphs moving?" Then the lymph node got a little swollen, it was just my body showing me, "don't stop a good thing."
      There is also this brand called Feel Goods feelgoods.co/ and when I was taking the immunity and gut guardian powders when my whole house got sick I was the only one completely fine, then I ran out the house got sick again and I caught it.
      So for winter immunity, their powders really work and I need to order some more ! #notsponsored

      @@daileykaileywailey Lots of goodies throughout and I also highly recommend keeping tabs on ones overall health in a preventative way instead of reactive way.
      I occasionally drink lemon water in the morning and can totally see the benefits of a concoction like that in the long-term. I have a pretty constant probiotic rotation of kimchi, sauerkraut and kefir that really has been keeping my gut health in tip top shape so totally see all of those things you mentioned doing wonders when done correctly! It also is quite the hype these days with booster shots and healthy drinks being the craze but there really is some truth to it all that we can implement in our lives when done correctly!
      I love diving into the deep end so not TMI!

    Great video! I do have a couple of questions though. My coconut oil stays solid so should I be melting it in the microwave first? Or does microwaving it ruin some of its good properties? Also, do I brush teeth and use tongue scraper before or after oil pulling? And finally, can I do oil pulling morning and at bedtime?

      Here are some answers to your Q's:
      - I would just plop the solid coconut oil in your mouth and let it melt there. A few seconds in your mouth is enough for it to go from solid to liquid. I have a pretty toasty apartment and it stays in its liquid form unless I put it in the fridge.
      - There might be some loss in quality if you expose it to heat for a microwave so I personally wouldn't recommend that.
      - It's really finding a routine that works for you, I only oil pull once per day and that is in the morning. Before I oil pull, I tongue scrape. Before I used to do it as an afternoon refresher after a cup of coffee but now I chew gum there instead (since it's kind of a hassle to oil pull when you are out and about).
      - If you want to oil pull multiple times then go for it, I would say once per day for 15m is the minimum and if you feel the benefits, add more oil pulling sessions throughout the day as you see fit.
      At the end of the day, I really think it is all about finding a routine that works for you where you are happy with the benefits you are getting. Hopefully that shed some light on your Q's~

    Oil pulling SHOULD NOT REPLACE BRUSHING!!! It should be done IN ADDITION to your normal oral hygiene regimen. I've been oil pulling for the past 3 months, and I LOVE IT! I do it for 20 minutes every morning BEFORE breakfast, then again at night before bed. I dispose of the oil in an old water bottle, and I brush immediately after. I started oil pulling, because I had a serious oral infection after 13 (unplanned) days in the hospital, and not being able to brush for the first 4 days. I was desperate for immediate relief, so I Googled home remedies until I could get to the dentist. Oil pulling was suggested, so I gave it a try. I ordered GuruNanda from Amazon. Listen. . .I am sold! It calmed my gums and kept the infection at bay, until I could get to the dentist. One thing I noticed was the SMELL of the oil after swishing and spitting it into the bottle. It was PUTRID! 🤢😖😩 By that next month, I couldn't smell anything but the oil. 😊 Here are my Pros: Squeaky clean teeth; WHITER teeth; Fresher breath; Temporary fix for oral infections. Cons: Tooth sensitivity. In the event you do experience tooth sensitivity, I would suggest lessening the amount of time you pull. I hope this helps someone who is on the fence about trying it. Lastly, please take care of your oral health. If you're fearful about going to the dentist, there's no need to be anymore. There are many offices that specialize in fearful patients, and the advancements in dentistry make the experience soooooooo much better than when we were kids. Your OVERALL health is directly related to your ORAL health, so PLEEEEAAAASE. . .Make that appointment. 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

    Went to the doc yesterday... I have 2 root canals done and 4 teeth fillings, he is lyk a fam doc my grandpa went to his dad my dad went to him nd i also go to him so he yold me abt oil pulling and i was sceptic but this vid makes me wanna try it

    You could also just use Dr Ellie's system and then you wouldn't need to scrape your tongue when already spending 15 minutes oil pulling multiple times a day 🙄 Her system CAN actually remineralize teeth too, if that's what one is looking for, and remineralization CAN make teeth look whiter. So while oil pulling can legit help with plaque, it's not as optimal a dental hygene solution as could be, though it's also much less complex than the 4-product + regular-xylitol-use-throughout-the-day system hers is, AND it's cheaper too, since xylitol ain't cheap...
    I remember starting trying oil pulling several years ago but it didn't stick. Now I understand I was doing it wrong...

      I think she is just a seller/promotor of xylitol and the products.
      Why i think that?
      Because she only promotes her products and does not educate you about other things you can do.

    Hey! There were done some studies with other kind of oils? Maiby there are not good for the teesth ...but for other things. Guns...etc. For example sun flower oil is good for... Gums...or canola oil for... Breath... I don't know...but you have some informations about them?

    I heard of research suggesting that oil pulling can cause lung problems, because of inhaling tiny amounts of oil over time.
    Could you look into that and do a video on it, please?

      I haven't seen any studies that suggest that. Feel free to point me in the direction to this study. We also consume oil in our diets all the time, why would oil pulling be any different (we aren't swallowing it either).

      @@MasterEverydayLiving I believe it was an info video from a random youtube dentist. I've not heard anyone else mention it. The lady said it "may" be a risk of oil pulling. Perhaps it's not an issue, one thing I notice from my own experience is that I always need to clear my throat towards the end of the 15 minutes. Other than that it hasn't affected my asthma or anything.

      Oil pulling and brushing teeth do not need to be linked. If you don't like the aftertaste then you can totally brush if you want. I oil pull in the morning and it has replaced my brushing routine in the morning (as I found it unnecessary after oil pulling).

    Do you have to do anything after the oil is spit out? I saw another video where a lady said take your finger and wipe around your mouth. Doesn't it make your mouth feel greasy? I'm going to give it a try tomorrow.

      You don't need to do anything after doing oil pulling, just continue with your day. If you don't like the aftertaste of the oil then feel free to rinse your mouth/drink something to remove the taste. You would think it makes your mouth feel greasy but it actually makes your mouth feel silky smooth! Good luck with your first sesh tomorrow :D

    You mentioned Olive oil is that just as effective as coconut oil? Extra virgin olive oil is the same right ?

      Extra virgin is another form of saying that the oil is cold-pressed, which I mention at 7:50 where I say it has a bit more nutrients since there is no heat being used in the extraction of the oil. I would recommend extra virgin/cold-pressed if you can get your hands on it at a reasonable price.
