I like the parallels in this scene - shows that both Frank and Richie are “somebody’s”. Frank’s first team meeting, we see his integrity and respect for the game. He’s a somebody to his team and the streets because he’ll kill a man like Tango in broad day light if he doesn’t uphold his end of an agreement. He is a man of integrity because he takes only his percentage of Tango’s money.
Richie’s first team meeting, we see his integrity and approach to police work. He’s a somebody to his team and the rest of the police force (for different reasons) because he’s honest enough to turn in $1,000,000.
This most important message in this scene is that a “somebody” is a man with integrity.
    Your word is your bond.

    • @deildegast

The way they both went through the same paths in their own profession was brilliant. Every scene with them is a step closer to their meeting. The way they both came together, marvelous. This scene was both of them starting their crew; hand picked, guys they trust. Both were confronted with a little dirt from their past, something on their path that disrupted who they were and stood for. Whether it was disrespect at a funeral for someone he cherished, or not taking cash that made him (and partner that in turn ODs) an outcast.
Watching this movie more often than some classic favorites and having it move up the list of greatest flicks ever made is fun. It's like the LeBron vs MJ thing all over again.

A legend of a film, that should be known even more, and receive more credits for its dynamics. Such an amazing storyline, characters, soundtrack and led by two legendary actors, Denzel Washington and Russel Crowe who brought so much emotion, and action to it. What makes the film even greater is the many lessons and lines that are brought up, and what's even greater is how it's based on a true story. Honestly, worth watching no matter what. Had watched this on my birthday years back, and really an unforgettable film, that till this day I have never forgotten about. Don't want to spoil much, but its a must-see. 4.19.2020

At that point Frank was a nobody, a small time criminal who used to drive Bumpy, just a driver, while Tango was a feard gangster and current number 1 in Harlem. Shortly after, Frank became more powerful than Tango which bothered him a lot

A little secret for those into "movie magic". Slow down the ending to 25% and you'll see the gun is clearly no longer pointed directly at the actor but off to the left of his head. You'll now notice this every time something like this is done. It's why it looks like they "can't" aim in some movies. Because you don't even point prop guns at people.
