    My 2 Cents:
Tool steels lean more toward the stainless properties in Brittleness, D2 is a steel that can be on both sides on the spectrum, be carefull with it.
My favourite general steel is Sandvic "14c28n" and its brother "Nitro-V" by most tests is Extremely stainless, has a good ammount of edgeretention and is so finely made that it can also be very tougth! :)

For normal people who use knives here and there without being in love or obsessed with blades I suggest stainless, for those otherwise only Carbon steels. Latter group see beauty differently, enjoy maintaining their knives and know how to treat and respect a lovely carbon blade. 🔪

Aebl is actually tougher than 1095 and good bit more than o1 while still being considered stainless. New magnacut is a good do it all good edge retention and toughness around 4v levels and stainless is near perfect like lc200n. Probably one of the best steels out there
