Hulk is far stronger in the comics, in fact the strongest character in marvel, In the comics hulk is now immortal and recently beat all the avengers including one shotting Thor and deystroying the entire marvel universe and it was cannon unlike deadpool and Wolverine destroying the marvel universe

It’s good to see because you can see the Hulk’s backstory, if you don’t know it already from the comics or TV show. Basically, here, they were trying to replicate what happened to Captain America, the “Super Soldier Program” Stark mentioned (you’ll see). After this film, they recast Hulk with Mark Ruffalo, after Edward Norton couldn’t agree on things. For the same reason Don Cheadle replaced Terence Howard in the first Iron Man.
I actually was going to be an extra in the Eric Bana Hulk movie here in San Francisco, but they wanted me to shave my head for a day to play an army soldier. No thanks. I was going to wear a helmet anyway!
I wish Liv Tyler DID appear in a future film. Sad. And yes, the Hulk can’t be killed (you’ll see in later films). And “Hulk Smash!” is a catchphrase from the comics.
Next: Iron Man 2, Thor, Captain America, then the first Avengers!

@@theavastark6463 He's not nerfed, he just doesn't stay a moron forever. The more time he spends as Hulk, the smarter he becomes as Hulk, because he's capable of learning as Hulk, so longer as he's not constantly fighting to contain Hulk. The reason he's been less monosyllabic since Ragnarok is because after Age of Ultron, he took off and spent years as Hulk. It's only Professor Hulk that you could really argue is nerfed, though given the events of Endgame, I think Hulk picked the best possible time to get smart, and I don't think swapping brains for smashing counts as nerfing, either, and he's been that way in the comics before, as well. Personally, I'm glad they're not just doing the same Hulk over and over again.

The Hulk's powers are really misunderstood by a lot of general fans, so as a Marvel/comic book nerd let me help you out on this one. Basically, Bruce was irradiated (the method varies from comic to comic based on who's writing it), and gamma radiation triggers the mutation of Bruce's DNA to cause him to "hulk out" and do the big green smashy thing. The actual origin of his power is his anger, and it doesn't have any upper limit. Basically the angrier he is, the stronger he is and the more durable he becomes. So at a certain point he becomes effectively infinitely strong and infinitely durable - which is why none of the bullets or bombs or any of that can really hurt him.
The source or well of anger that Bruce has stems from his relationship with his father. The Hulk is the manifestation of all the anger he had for his father, and is like a separate (but not entirely) consciousness. It's a part of Bruce, but it has its own independent thoughts, like two people inhabiting the same body, alternating who get to "drive" the body at any given point. Over time, Bruce and the Hulk persona come to a sort of symbiosis and work together, which is when he learns how to control when he Hulks out.
In the comics, Hulk is the muscle they bring in when they need something to be punched very hard. Fighting the Hulk in hand to hand combat is basically a good way to get yourself turned into a pancake - this will become important much later into the MCU timeline when you catch up to the final arc.

Blonsky is a bit underwritten, but I think there's far, far more there to his character than you're giving credit - they establish he's been an elite soldier for decades, a top military asset, apex predator if you will. And now after all these years he may have accumulated more and more knowledge and experience, but like everybody else, his body is slowing down and starting to betray him. And THEN he comes across a whole new top-of-the-food-chain threat that he's not only never experienced before but for the first time in his life he's woefully unequipped to come out on top. You have to imagine what that does mentally to someone who's entire identity for decades has revolved around being the most lethal thing in the room on two legs.

I'm split on the movie. It's not good or bad. But my major issue with it is that the very first Avengers movie pretty much ignores it since they recast Hulk/Bruce Banner and give the character a soft reboot or something. The only thing that really carries over to the other MCU movies and keeps The Incredible Hulk canon is Betty's father. But other than that, the movie doesn't really feel canon or has much re-watch factor to it because of what the first Avengers does with recasting Bruce Banner/Hulk and giving the character a soft reboot. It's almost like Avengers reintroduces us to the character. Other than that, the movie is all right. I think it's the only MCU movie I don't own though. Would've been nice if Edward Norton wasn't such a pain to work with and stuff. Plus I think he was demanding more money and wanted more creative control. I hear all kinds of horror stories about Edward Norton though. He is one of the worst/difficult actors to work with in Hollywood since he is rude and demanding. That's probably why Disney decided to drop him and recast him for Avengers. Well, in addition to all the stuff he was demanding.

@@chicken2695, yes it is. Tony Stark pops up in the end and William Hurt/Ross returns in future MCU movies (mainly Civil War). It doesn’t feel connected though because of Hulk/Bruce being recast. Edward Norton’s Hulk was supposed to be in Avengers, but he being REALLY hard to work with and wanted more control/creative freedom or whatever you want to call it over his Bruce/Hulk and I think more money. Everyone didn’t like that, so Edward Norton left or Disney/Marvel let him go. Then they recast the character, which led to Mark Ruffalo took over. It also might seem the 2008 Hulk movie isn’t connected because they gave Hulk another soft reboot in Avengers. But the Mark Ruffalo Hulk is still the same Hulk that Edward Norton started playing overall. There have been a few recasts over the years in the MCU. Like Rhodey/War Machine. If Hulk 2008 isn’t connected to the MCU, then neither is Iron Man 1 because Iron Man 1 had a different actor playing Rhodey.

I'd forgotten how in both the first two MCU movies, the military or (military-industrial complex) was more of a villain than the actual villain.
This is one of the least hero's-joirney themed of all the MCU, I think. A lot of the Marvel heroes have to confront their character flaws to become heroes (Tony Stark has more flaws than most...) but the Hulk is a special case because his character flaw, anger, is also the source of his power.

If Marvel hasn't changed the lore too much again, Mrs. Ross died of cancer when Betty was barely a teenager. Gen. Ross wasn't the best person to begin with, but losing his wife crushed him. He buried himself in his work. As a single father and high-ranking general, he couldn't figure out how to be there for his adolescent daughter. This was established in the 60s, as well as Bruce / David's mom also dying young (more on that -- hello!), and it's one of many factors the brought Bruce / David and Betty together.
I can understand why Marvel eventually shaped Gen. Ross to progressively be a tyrant, but I often wish they would have followed on with the themes they had for him in the early 70s -- a man devoted to his county and yearning to be a good family man, but torn apart by circumstance. The more depth you give a character, the more you can invest in them, and we can agree that includes villians. MCU Loki, anyone?

Avengers he was okay in but still not a fan (yet). I was really watching Avengers for more Thor and more Iron Man. But then Captain America: The Winter Soldier happened and I was blown away and that's the movie that turned me into a fan. Plus Captain America: The Winter Soldier I consider the MCU's The Dark Knight. That's how good it is. As for Civil War, I was Team Captain America and not Team Iron Man. Captain America was among my least favorite superheroes, but The Winter Soldier made me a fan, and overall, the Captain America movies are my favorite when looking at the standalone movies. Oh, and originally I only saw/watched The Winter Soldier because everyone kept marketing it as the movie that sets up Age Of Ultron. So I figured I'd just sit through it to help better understand Age Of Ultron. Wasn't expecting to be blown away by it and end up becoming a Captain America fan after watching it.

To only echo what was said from earlier posts, the security guard was Lou Ferrigno; who played The Incredible Hulk for five seasons on TV from the 70’s to the 80’s, and in three made-for-TV-movies from 1988-1990. He also voiced The Hulk in the 1996 animated series, and has a cameo in the Ang Lee Hulk film of 2003.
To give you an idea of the impact he had as The Hulk, I recommend (and hope) you do a reaction to the pilot episode that launched the series back in the 70’s.
This was good. I loved your reacts to the Star Wars films, and I liked how the two of you reacted to this, it was very nice.

The villain in this movie is General Ross. He was the one funding the supersoldier research that created the Hulk, and had no problem creating a second monster. The origin story is told in the 2003 film "The Hulk", and is shown as a montage in the title sequence of this film. This is why they had the serum in cold storage to inject into Blonsky, and why in the end credit scene Stark says "there's a reason that program was put on ice" (literally). Blonsky was just another lab rat to be experimented on.

Even though The Hulk is in MCU, Universal Studios still owns the movie rights of The Hulk. They can only use The Hulk in a small role, if they wanted to make a new solo Hulk movie they have to make a new deal with Universal. There might be some error in that information, but that's the main reason why The Hulk has only had small roles in the other movies and not getting another solo movie.

ok Bruce Banner is a GENIUS ok He's just as smart as Tony Stark.... and because of this SUBCONSCIOUSLY he has a mind or heart of a child.... When Banner turns into the *HULK* HULK is the child that surfaces out..... the reason HULK rarely "Speaks" is because Banner has't connected with HULK on a subconscious level YET..... but that changes as time goes on....

Mary, so nice that your sister joined you for this! So much funner! ❤️ Great reactions! So funny that you both recognize actors in the supporting characters, but not Stan Lee (the old fellow who drinks the soda...he appears as cameo characters in all the MCU movies) and Lou Ferrigno as the pizza eating security guard (he played Hulk in the television series), but that was so long ago, I totally understand if you didn't recognize them. The scenes after the credits are like a little tease of things to come ❤️ I enjoyed this, ladies! Take care 😊
