  • The part of shipping that isn’t glorified. This is a 100% real and true story. This happened to me among many other things. I talk about other situations in a few other videos so make sure to go check those out too. @dani_theunicorn
    Disclaimer: if you’re a r@cist, and this video upset you, I could understand why you still don’t get it-because you’re racist. Have a good day!
    Chief engineer may not have been r@cist, but he lack majorly in the common sense department.

    Im sorry you had to go through that. I started as an apprentice with SIU, then worked my way up from wiper to getting my 3rd engineers license. Its alot of racism out here, but the best revenge is getting paid.

      It was all eye opening for me. People will smile in your face as long as you don’t cause riffs, but the moment you stand up for yourself, their true colors show.
      Court was a joke. I still don’t know the outcome smh.

    Thank you for sharing this story. What a horrible situation to be stuck on a boat far from home with a boss and crew like that. I've heard people telling basically the same "funny" story a just to have an excuse to say that word.
    ( The woman must have been Chinese. "Nei Ge" means "that" and Chinese speakers frequently pepper their sentences with it the way Americans put "like" in sentences. ) What a strong woman you are.

    • @Dani_TheUnicorn

      Life happens. We encounter irrational people who make us uncomfortable. We live and learn.
      I’ve heard it means “that”, it was just so unnecessary for my boss to repeat it-especially while laughing hysterically. I feel he was looking for an excuse to say the word as well smh.
      I can imagine the guy it happened to was probably embarrassed-or not-given that he was an older black gentleman in his 60s (he was probably used to hearing slurs coming from his era). All I know is gen Z would have had my boss’s job on a platter before the next business day lol.

    I think a career path where the training is free and attracts people who tend to be alone will have a bunch of people like that. Gotta put your foot down and be smart about the political game. I’m leaving healthcare after almost 20 years and I’m about to go through the S** Apprenticeship in August. I’m heading into it knowing that those kinds of people exist and they’re out there. I’m glad I’ve had a lot of experience dealing with that in healthcare. I’m sorry you went r through that

    That is crazy, wow....I can imagine that was stressful....the worst part of shipping is the people....I work and go to my room and stay away from da dramma...I even go ashore alone always....thanks for sharing...I ship from VA...also....

    • @Dani_TheUnicorn
      @Dani_TheUnicorn  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, I learned so much-that being my first real ship outside of the apprenticeship. I would go everywhere alone.
      After that, I learned how to get around in Korea by myself. And everywhere else i went. Some ships had bikes to use.

    I just finished second phase! You were one of the first people I watched while doing research into the career.
    I absolutely love what your father said to you and how you took that and became stronger.
    I'm sorry people like that chief and other crew members are out there. I am glad you kept your head and continued but also made the report, standing up for yourself and others they could have tormented if left unchecked.
    Much love and luck to you in all your endeavors!
    Thank you for sharing your experiences so candidly 💛

      Thanks for watching my video. It does suck to come across weirdos especially when your intentions are pure: to work, treat others with respect, and get home safely.
      I’m grateful for my dad’s words. It actually stuck with me throughout the years as it applies to a plethora of scenarios.
      Thank you again for watching and leaving me some kind words, I appreciate that.
      Best of luck to you out there in all the you do 🤍

      It was interesting... difficult in some ways, but only 65 days. I was on a ro-ro that went to Europe! I learned a ton. It was a wonderful first ship. But, also had enough bad parts that my next 120+ days on a ship after 3rd phase, I will be much better prepared 🧡 Especially dealing with less than desirable characters. Thank you so much! I will let you know how things go after my next ship. All the best to you in all you do🍀💛

      Just don’t go blindly thinking that you have an HR department to go to for help in the middle of the ocean when certain people can no longer hold back their obnoxious ignorance. You’ll get a lot of that out there. Hot, stanking, huge ego issues.

    We have to stop giving that word so much power. I understand how it made you feel uncomfortable, but he wasn't using it at you or anyone else. Saying a word to tell a story shouldn't trigger anyone. Its a word. And im not trying to justify nothing, but you guys are sailors. Offensive things will be said. As long as theirs no name calling then I see no issue.

    • @Dani_TheUnicorn
      @Dani_TheUnicorn  ปีที่แล้ว +16

      We have to stop giving that word so much power. That is true. However, being a sailor doesn’t excuse you to throw slurs around regardless of who it is directed towards. Sailor or not, it’s a workplace and I’m very respectful to everyone around me and to myself-I expect and demand the same in return. I won’t turn up and make a spectacle, but sweeping things under the rug will only make it worse for anyone that precedes you.
