The Rev. No question. Not even because he's a fantastic drummer (which he is), he is so unique. I can say in all my years of living have never heard anything as outstanding and original as A Little Piece of Heaven. He's got a fantastic voice as well. He was incredible, and it's such a shame he passed away. R.I.P Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan. You live on through your fans, you beautiful god.
Definitely the Rev, He is so talented, like, he wrote entire songs for the band, and he can sing while playing, which is extremely difficult, judging the fact he is playing percussion, not rhythm.
You cannot compare these two drummers because one: Nobody can play like The Rev. two: Avenged Sevenfold wanted The Rev to play how he wanted to play (Advanced and clean). Avenged Sevenfold wanted Arin to play with a groove and play hard, not advanced like The Rev. Three: The Rev played differently than Arin did, Arin was meant to play clean and hard, and not like The Rev as I said in my second reason. By the way I am not trying to piss people off and say that this vid was stupid, but they are two different drummers that played two different styles.
Arin just couldn’t keep up with the revs parts, that’s why hail to the king was so lack luster, but when they fired him and got brooks he was able to play the revs parts and write new parts the live up to what the rev played, but with brooks style
He could play everything The Rev wrote at the live shows, so it definitely wasn't playing ability. They said it was creative differences due to the age difference with Arin being so much younger.
The thing is we all know The Rev was a talented musician in all. But Arin Ilejay is the new drummer know and we just got to accept and move on, Its great to honor him in his best moments. People just got to stop bitching that Arin Ilejay being the new drummer cause nothing can change that. 7 years I have been a fan of Avenged Sevenfold.
I think the biggest issue with Arin, is that he's just "the new drummer". Jimmy was a multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, singer, and them the drummer. From the creative fills, to the unique vocal harmonies he and M. Shad would do, to writing a good majority of A7x's most popular songs, Jimmy is definitely irreplaceable. Arins' a good drummer and all, but again, he's still just "the new drummer".
I really can't choose because they both have different styles that have benefitted the band in different ways. They have different flavors, but one is not more talented than the other. I love both and they both have kind, gentle spirits and they both are gifted.
i don't get why it has to be competition, they're both equally amazing and talented drummers, the rev was an absolute genius but that doesn't mean that arin doesn't deserve his place in the band, he's not trying to be jimmy and they may have different styles of drumming but it's not to say one is better than the other, why can't we just love both of them equally?? they're both amazing dudes and we should respect what they've given/are giving to avengedv
too bad you disabled the dislike button. how can you even compare to people who love doing their hobbies? simply drumming and making music. why does it always need to be about competition? Sure the REV was a genius and we all love him, but arin is a really good drummer and he can be (and is) totally honored to take his place in an awesome band we all love....
I love Arin!! The Rev will always be my favorite, but Arin hasn't disappointed me yet! I saw them live last month and it was so fucking bad ass, best thing ever. I never had the pleasure of seeing them live when the Rev was alive :( . Probably would have died, but yeah, Arin is fucking awesome! I don't care what anyone says! RIP REV!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
arin is a great drummer he plays with as much heart and soul as jimmy did. i love the rev he will forever be my favorite but arin is doing a great fucking job so far
I think Jimmy is better than Arin in my opinion. Jimmy had much more energy on stage and he never missed a beat!! Arin... Well uh... Hes a good drummer don't get me wrong! But I mean I think Jimmy is way better than him. I'm not saying he sucks at drumming or anything I just mean that I think Jimmy is a bit better than him!! Rest in peace Jimmy!!
Misty parrales Don't get me wrong, but I saw some mistakes from Jimmy on TH-cam videos, too. Arin is fuckin' amazing, and there are no 'bad' musicians on such a high level where A7X is standing. Too many fans have misunderstood his drumming parts on Hail to the King, but The Rev would not has played faster than Arin did. His playing is improving day after day. I think some of the Hail to the King haters will pop their vessels over his drumming on the next album. RIP THE REV.
No point commenting here. I chose the Rev not because he's the best (obviously he is more... electrifying, complex, balanced etc), but Arin is too simple. And I know the band wanted a simpler drummer, but that was unexpected for me. I will get a tattoo of the Rev because he inspired me in many many ways, aside of being not only a very good drummer he is, was and will be a curios case of genius composition in today's music. Thank you, Rev. You stallion-duck-drum machine PS: I actually commented. I forgot I said I won't.
To be fair, if you watch the making of hail to the king, they say that Ilejay toned down his drumming for that album to make it a more classic sounding album.
No, they're both studio recordings; City of Evil was produced by Andrew Murdock, while Carry On was produced by Mike Elizondo. When different producers approach production of an album differently, the end result sounds very different.
the Rev was one of the top drummers of his time, will be missed CANNOT be replaced. the Arin dude is no Rev. stop trying. Hail To The King was not a good album, they sounded like a Metallica cover band...

Guys, of course we want the rev back, but do we really have to compare arin and the rev. They're both good drummers, and even though the rev is better in my oppinion, the rev would be proud of arin.

I had a very hard time looking at Arin because he was a reminder that Jimmy is gone. Everytime I saw his face I got a horrible feeling in my stomach. I sometimes still do. With that said, Jimmy was creative behind the kit, and Arin can, on the songs that it's needed, play them just as well as Jimmy could. But their style was about to change up anyway, like they evolve on every CD. So just because the new CD has a different sound, and Arin is playing that sound AS IT WAS RECORDED before he even arrived, doesn't make him less of a drummer. Wait until their next album. I'm guessing it's going to be amazing. And I'm hoping by then that I will stop missing my friend so much and enjoy the new music.
Ive been a drummer for 24 years now. The Rev and Brooks are pretty similar as far as creativity. Brooks has better technique. Both drummers have better skill, technique, and creativity than Arin did.
Arin was never a replacement he was brought in to carry on the revs legacy and to help the band advance there career which is exactly what jimmy would have wanted. there drumming is amazing both are awesome. Let's face it a7x don't settle for second best.. I think with time Arin is gunna start filling in the revs shoes maybe even with singing too. He's pretty new to this man and if u listen to sounding the seventh trumpet jimmy was good but not great, but by the time he died In my opinion he was flawless... Couple of years Arin is gunna be on that same level... Ps only just been able to start listening to sevenfold again... Didn't feel right for a while but now it does... Hope they never stop and never change would love to see an album similar to waking the fallen or city of evil again by far there best work in my opinion.
They are both awesome drummers ( especially The Rev ) and they are both part of Avenged Sevenfold. I don't think they should be compared to each other. But in my opinion The Rev will always be the best drummer in the world. foREVer
Always love the rev, he's amazing drummer and songwriter and honestly id say he would have liked arin, especially his drum solos live and they are amazing and speaking from experience!
While Portnoy was technically the best drummer to play for A7X, he's almost too polished for Sevenfold. I still hold Rev as number one for Avenged but Arin deserves a couple more albums and see him live before I can judge him (I'm including Dream Theatre when judging Portnoy).
Technically speaking the rev is a better drummer, arin is still really fucking good though! Even if they were the same nobody beats the revs creative mind.
I find it comical how the publisher of this video picked out these clips. What a difference in how they both play. first of all Jimmy's rips were all from Beast and the Harlot. Which is possibly the best drum track ever. that said, lets see what Arin can do on his own on the next album
First off, he does play The Rev's parts amazingly. Second, the whole band came together and said to keep the drumming simple on the new album. That's why it's not as complicated as Rev's. So don't bash on Arin for following the bands orders.
i just read the description and all i have to say is The Rev by far is more talented in every way shape and form. From songwriting to pure talent, he even wrote guitar parts and entire songs you see on their albums today, who the fuck is arin illejay again?
Ross Horan Dude. I know that Arin isnt the rev but you gotta give it to him. Arin is really talented and its a huge responsibility to take over the revs spot and to please the audience. I think he handles the pressure really well. And he pleases his audience. I think Jimmy wouldve like Arin.
ThatGamerGirl2002 i think Jimmy would've wanted Mike Portnoy to stay lol I think he'd probably be pretty angry at his fellow band members for letting him go
Arin is super good. The solo from Carry on has more groove and kinda sounds like it could have been from the 70s, but The Rev is just an animal on the drums. Easy, The Rev.
Im sorry arin. The rev is amazing and definitely a legend and winner in my eyes. Arin is doing well, but will never be as good as jimmy the rev sullivan. Hail to the rev! RIP x
They are both good. And my suggestion to the video maker, if you are you make something like this again, try using the same songs to compare the two. Two (one for the rev and Arin) live versions would be better. Because if you compare albums Like Hail to the king or Carry on (which is the only album Arin recorded drums, because the Rev and Portnoy (however you spell his name) did Nightmare) to waking the fallen or city of evil, etc. Obviously the other album's drums are better. Arin was told to be simple for Hail to the King
The rev is better but I don't think arin wants to be the next rev I think he wants to just be arin. Who isn't necessarily worse than the rev he just has a different style of drumming
they both are great .., and have different styles but in general "The Rev" always remain the Legend of A7 ... but arin is so young and talented that's why he is in A7 good for him .
I Think Both Of Them Are Better At The Same Time. The Rev (the one the av7x's respect) Because His Skills Were So Quick....And I Respect Him And His Death As Well (even though i am a directioner but i love sevenfold). And Arin (hope i didn't spell this wrong) Because HIS Skills Are Kinda At The Same Speed. And The Beat Matches The Music.
The rev was literally the play style A7X was when they first started like his drums carried tf outta band and Arin just sounds to rock and not enough like A7X heavy metal type of thing like Jimmy's style was literally what made A7X like heavy metal and Arin just sounds like Lars from Metallica trying to play metal drums
Not a single person will ever compare to The Rev, but people need to chill out about Arin Ilejay. He is doing his absolute best and I think The Rev would be happy with who his brothers chose as their new drummer. The Rev would not have wanted his fans to put down and say harsh things about Arin. He left this world and he is not coming back. We all need to face that. Avenged Sevenfold will never sound the same because of that. The Rev is gone, so the band basically has to start fresh...
I think Arin is a really good drummer and for only being in the band not that long while The Rev was the first drummer I think Arin is doing really good
The Rev can be more talented as for writing songs and stuff, but personally I like more the sound in Hail to the King album than in City of Evil for example. So in terms of likness, I'll go with Arin.
the thing with a7x is that my uncle knew James and James give me lessons on drumming and now i drum like James he was a good guy and he was roughly the same lvl as jordison at 1 point and he was intense the new drummer on the other side is ok his stuff is east to do that's why i drum to James stuff i done a cover on nightmare and it was easy then done a cover on afterlife and its more complex
Ilejay is damn good, but the Rev will always be the best

He is doing his absolute best and I think The Rev would be happy with who his brothers chose as their new drummer. The Rev would not have wanted his fans to put down and say harsh things about Arin. He left this world and he is not coming back. We all need to face that. Avenged Sevenfold will never sound the same because of that. The Rev is gone, so the band basically has to start fresh...
is not easy to live under the shadow of another , he has had a great responsibility, and always will recieve criticism, but it has done very well .. !
I think Arin is a really good drummer and for only being in the band not that long while The Rev was the first drummer I think Arin is doing really good
No one will ever be as great as The REV
The Rev can be more talented as for writing songs and stuff, but personally I like more the sound in Hail to the King album than in City of Evil for example. So in terms of likness, I'll go with Arin.
Rev is always better but i like arin too! But on your video in the beginning, both of those solos are Rev:s...if you didn't know :)
the thing with a7x is that my uncle knew James and James give me lessons on drumming and now i drum like James he was a good guy and he was roughly the same lvl as jordison at 1 point and he was intense the new drummer on the other side is ok his stuff is east to do that's why i drum to James stuff i done a cover on nightmare and it was easy then done a cover on afterlife and its more complex
Numpang nanya min, judul lagu pas llejey main drumer tu apa?
This is like comparing apples to oranges. Two totally different styles of playing
Rev I miss you brother
Well, Arin is still a very good drummer to me.
