  • I'm happy to announce this game is ready after 9 months of what started as a 3DO tech demo. It is all original and custom, including the engine and graphics.
    I would like to thank the 3DO community for their support, encouragement, and ideas. Join our discord to learn more about this project and others.

    Congrats! 🤘 I would love to see a physical release and some art. Even a fake Panasonic ad 😉

    Cool to finally see some 3DO homebrew! Wonder if your planned possible physical release will come in a standard DVD or CD case, or the 3DO style tall box.

      @retroloveletter  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If I do it then I plan on going all out - tall box, CD case inside, manual, and maybe maps of the levels. RetroGamerBB also has a great idea of including some fake ads.

      Thanks! I'm finishing up a 3DO pacman clone that I was working on prior to this project. I won't be using official assets for legal reasons. I've also been tinkering with some interesting tech demos I may share while I plan out another main project.

    Well done! I wish I can find some time from coding or other things, to go back and play this on my real 3DO.

    Hey - Sorry if this is a dumb question... Is this game available in ISO format so I can play it on an ODE modded 3DO? Thanks!

    • @retroloveletter
      @retroloveletter  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey there, the iso is on github. Go to the link in the description and download the asset, it is in there. Current release is v1.1.0. The original release didn't have music, but both releases are on github. I've tested burning the iso to a disc and playing on the console, and also using the xport ODE on the console.

    This just shows how easy for a big developer it would have been to ditch the FMV games and create an actual 3D FPS like DOOM. It's sad that DOOM was so rushed on the 3DO as it could have been great given the proper development time to create an optimised engine to port it to.

    • @retroloveletter
      @retroloveletter  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, DOOM's source was initially created for PC and didn't adapt well in porting to 3DO. Had there been time, a more tailored DOOM-style engine could have been created for the 3DO, no doubt. It may have not been 1:1 given constraints, but that is OK.

    • @channex8179
      @channex8179 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @retroloveletter It would likely have been a similar port to the PSX port, i.e., cut down and rearranged, certainly not the choppy, windowed version it got. It should have been great considering DOOM is a sprite based 2D game designed to look 3D, and the 3DO is a bit of a 2D Juggernaut much like the Saturn and Jaguar we're and a 2D sprite based console at heart that does 3D effects. Also, the 3DO port has the best music of them all, IMO.
