So, each of the support dancers are one year apart in age. Miki Yagi (17), Yume Nozaki (16), and Sakia Kimura (15) would have been shoeins to be the class presidents for Sakura Gakuin had it continued. And Kokona Kato (14) (probably, maybe) would have joined SG as well. Amuse use to often get members from their Chao Smiles modeling troop of which Kokona was a member. Miko Todaka (17) lead vocals, was very stoic during SG run so it's good to see her being playful in this performance.

Very cool swing influence on this song, I remember the double kick being more prominent when they played it at the Summer Sonic festival last summer. But that was because Anthony Barone was playing drums with the western Kami Band. Some people have tried to compare Miko with Su, but they have completely different voices , Miko has a little more silkiness in her voice than Su. In an interview last year Koba said this is a project for new talent to develop, so we'll see where this goes. Miko has real talent that's for sure.

The only similarities of Su and Miko is that they are from the same city and went to the same idol school. Otherwise, there are two completely different people, but very talented each.

It was a live video taken from a live performance, so the backup vocals were on a backing track.
And this time also the band was on a backing track.
This created a lot of division among the BM fanbase, because a lot of people don't like that much use of backing track
I personally loved the concept, love the girl, they are so cute and adorable!
And love most of the music they put out! Can't wait for them to release more official videos!!

Hello dear friend, GREAT REACTION!! As you said is a opposite concept to Babymetal: the lead singer (MikoMetal) is the shortest and the main damcers (SakiaMetal and KokoMetal) are the tallest ha ha ha ha😁Now we have the adittion of 2 more members (YumeMetal) and (MikiMetal) they appeared for first time in SummerSonic Fest 2023...Maybe they are taking the concept of that alternate reality where the Avengers never left ... Greetings!! 😍😍😁😁😁 #METALVERSE

great reaction, I love Metalverse, but then you were surprised by the use of the double bass drum/double pedal used in the part of the song that is jazz, but the style of playing drums, it emerged precisely with the musicians who played jazz drums, there for the 1940s and 50s, then later, being used in rock and metal.
and the interesting thing about the name of the song being Crazy J, is that it is something like "Crazy Jazz", as always Koba using puns in the names of the songs, Many who heard Crazy J for the first time also made a connection with the Disney cartoon, Aladdin, which has a musical part, inspired by jazz and swing
    Good Job... Seeee Youuu

5:46 This is Yagi Miki (八木美樹), whose first year in Sakura Gakuin coincided with Momoko's last. As soon as she transferred to SG she could neither dance nor sing, as she confessed, but with hard work and dedication (and also with the "secret lessons" given to her by Momoko, she said at the end of MoMo's graduation ceremony), she became one of the best students in SG, no coincidence she is in Metalverse!
She's one of my favorites, right after Momoko, Su, Moa and Yui!

Koba has said Metalverse is a project to develop new talent with different members rotating in and out. So It sounds like it's going to be a scaled down version of what Sakura Gakuin was. In all likelihood Miko will be the focus because of her vocal talent

  • @jason7120

The Group will only have 1 live singer. That is Miko the lead singer. This group is very much built around her. There are 5 Sakura Gakuin grads in this group Miko, Miki, Yume, and Sakia, the 6th member but not the least is Kokona who was never a part of Sakura Gakuin.

In my opinion, Metalverse may be an idol version of BABYMETAL. Therefore, there is no need for live band, and they may primarily use backing tracks for music and backing vocals. Koba probably had lots of lighter idol like songs and did not want to waste the efforts of the exiting Sakura Gakuin girls.
I hope they do well in their future and look forward to their growth.

To make me sleep better at night, this is what I believe is going on. Lip syncing because, NEW band, FIRST performance, and they don't want the girls to get confused with dance moves and singing. My hope is that moving forward, they use live mics.

It's such a good song! The Swing feel mixes surprisingly well with Metal. I'm still undecided what to think of this "riding the BABYMETAL wave". I could imagine BM playing this song, but the other ones we have heard seem to be poppier. I wouldn't like them having to share the material. But for now my prevalent emotion is happiness about seeing the smiles of some of my favourite Sakura Gakuin girls again.

    👍 👍
    Great reaction.
Lead vocalist Miko Todaka (graduate of Sakura Gakuin) is definitely a talented singer and has great stage presence (and awareness).
Yes the backup singer/dancer situation has me a little mystified. If this group is to taken seriously I believe that they must be actually singing.
I am a fan of swing music and the big band sound but I think that like Babymetal they will not be limited to any one single genre. What their anchor genre will be is a mystery. I did not see an actual band in this performance but I have seen the West Kami Band present in earlier performances (which also is a must for credibility).
    All my opinions of course.
Good to see you again and until next time.

I have to admit, I like this song more than I thought I would. 🤭 Something must be mixed into the food of the girls from Hiroshima that affects their presence. I mean the front lady, Miko, reminds me a lot of her counterpart from another 'metalverse' who has a similarly strong stage character and can sing damn well. Or am I alone with this thought? 😇🤘🏻

Metalverse has performed with western Kami band before, but sadly now only had one member live. We know they can sing and dance at the same time, they've done it before outside of Metalverse.
Like Babymetal they have no specific metal mix genre.

It was nice to introduce them by tying them in with Babymetal in a way.... But I think they are more than capable of forming a group themselves, and should really move a bit away from being merely a Babymetal lite, as they seem to be with their costuming.... I would love to see them as a way to lead someway into the hiphop scene....KPOP has domninated these girl groups for too long, maybe Metalverse can do something to Japans Hiphop/pop scene like Babymetal did with the metal scene? Just a thought..... 😁😁😁🤘🦊🤘

Hi Brian, great reaction as usual. I love this song, there is nothing wrong with jazz roots; even Atarashii Gakko started out with light jazz.
My question is where does this project fit in within the AMUSE stable of bands? All the girls here are clearly talented, great dancers, and they wouldn't be on AMUSE's books if they couldn't sing. But why dress them and model them after Babymetal?
This is where I get a little controversial. I think AMUSE was struggling to find a suitable replacement for Yui when she unexpectedly suffered her illness, they experimented for a couple of years on how Babymetal worked best; the formation, the number of dancers ... the whole gamit. Eventually, Babymetal decided on the perfect replacement (and I mean perfect) announcing Momometal as the new legend.
This is the controversial bit of my thinking (so don't yell at me, I'm not saying it's facts or anything, just something to think about), I think Metalverse are designed to be a stand-alone band in their own right, but I also think they are being trained as almost Babymetal clones. And this is the key to my thinking.
Babymetal was thrown into a state of flux for a couple of years after the departure of Yui, they don't want to go through that again. For this reason, I feel that Metalverse's underlying purpose is to have readymade replacements for Su, Moa and Momo. I believe that the process that Babymetal/AMUSE went through would have been gut wrenching and difficult to find a replacement for Yui.
This is the crux of my argument. Yui left unexpectedly, there was no malice involved, but something happened, that meant she couldn't perform for a time. This weakened Babymetal and, I feel, almost led to their demise. I feel that Metalverse is designed to be a feeder sub-unit to replace the current Babymetal members if it becomes necessary.
I know this seems a bit left field but think about it. All the girls from Babymetal are in their 20s. Presumably, they have their own private relationships. The girls from Babymetal are extremely private (and I respect that), but we do know that in their 20s, there are some things that could suddenly change the availability of each of the girls. One of their partners could get a job overseas and the Babymetal member wants to follow them? The girls from Babymetal are of an age where starting a family might become important to them. Who knows what could happen, someone might fall off the stage and suddenly not be able to perform anymore.
I think you get my point, I think the girls in Metalverse are being trained to be able to fit into a vacated role, should one of the current Babymetal members leave (or have a break). In some of Metalverse's performances there appears to be 'mirror' roles to Babymetal members, and this also makes sense. It acclimatizes the fans to possible and suitable replacements, should the need arise.
    Just my thoughts.

@@JMxx6204My statement was just very general. If I understand the lore, BABYMETAL was created to bring metal back into the world and fight against the idol groups. I wish them well and enjoyed their surprise performances with BABYMETAL last year. 🖖❤
