Great video Justin! This machine certainly has become a consideration for me as I look to upgrade from my Breville Barista Pro. I would love to get your opinion on this machine compared to the E1 Prima which I have had in my sites for over a year now. Happened to be one of those in this category not to mention i was probably one of the comments asking about it also. They have a great product with plenty of features and a great price point. When i was in the market i considered this or the San Remo You. Two completely different machines however both very well leaders in their own ways. couldn't agree more with your opinion on the La Marzocco vs this. Glad this is getting some good feedback :)
Very enjoyable presentation - thank you. I have just ordered a steel duo based, primarily, on your review of the smaller Ascaso. My question to you concerns the Baby T’s walnut-handled joy stick steam wand, which protrudes above the top of the machine: what is the overall height to the very top of the joy stick when in a vertical position (although yours looked nearer 45 degrees)? Thank you.
Great video (and videography!). I’m in Australia, and this is too much for my budget. I love the Steel Duo, but I’m concerned about the noise of the vibration pump (and while steaming). What are your thoughts about the noise? Cheers

This is probably the cheapest option end game you could get without needing to spending close to 5 digits. Super Smart, app with so many detailed configurations and almost instantaneous sync up. Everything you need from volumetric to all the other modern day features! It's built like a work horse too! Got to see one up close and demonstrated in details by 2 salesperson with professional barista background. Although I bought the duo pid, but this will be my end-game when the time comes!

Superbe video ... I am just seaking to buy a new Espresso machine .. and was looking between the La Mazocco Linea Mini / Micra, and the Ascaso Duo Steel PID. I was a liottle bit close rto the La Marzocco, I have to admit. Especially due to the clapping noise for the steam circuit, and the anoying noise cups do while being on top of the machine.
Thanks to tell about the La Marzocco problem, of stopping in the middle of an coffe extraction, if there is no water anymore in the watertank 😞... Thought this was "solved" on le Micra .. I will have to check ..
One problem I had with Lascaso, was buying a machine which has/had a design problem for the volumetric measurement. On the Duo Steel PID, this volumetric measurement is done upfront to the pressure valve opening on too high pressure, and returning the water to the watertank, thus not being any volumetric measurement anymore .. So pyaing for features not really working ..
How is it about this volumetric measurement on the Baby T? Did Lascao adapt this ?

I have short listed this machine for a popup/coffee catering setup....do you think the 2.5L boiler is up to making ongoing back to back milk based coffees? Have you noticed any drop off in performance when making multiple milk based coffees at home? Would it be on par with the 3.5L GS3 (except price) which appears to be the go to machines for mobile applications? Cheers
I’ve made back to back drinks for a whole houseful of guests (10-12 drinks non-stop on the machine) with zero issue or recovery. Obviously the 3.5 litre is going to give you even more stability but… it comes at a much higher price. The boiler on this heats quickly and it is designed with light commercial in mind. Definitely worth considering!

Thanks for the review. I have questions. 1. What is the distance from the countertop to the cup warming tray. 2. The distance from the back to the front where the displays are placed. 3. How does the passive heating of the cup warming tray work (us does not have active heating).
Answers! 1. Counter to top of cup rail is 16 3/8” but counter to top of steam arm is 17” 2. Back to front is 15 1/2”. 3. If the boiler is on the passive heating is more than adequate with a good warm up. Without the boiler it’s mediocre everywhere except directly over the group. I had the same thoughts becasue of the gs3 and the Ascaso baby T. For me this is the closest lineup from la marzocco and have to say ... there is a Baby T in my kitchen now, casue it looks awesome and is so much cheaper

For sure, two totally different machines and definitely a lot more than most home users need! In my experience, the Duo offers 95% of what a home user could want. The Baby T steams way faster, but for most people at home waiting a couple extra seconds yo make a drink is not a dealbreaker at all

The funny thing about saying Decent. Decent is difference class machine. It is tesla of espresso machine. Pressure profiling, flow profiling, temperature change in the middle of the shot.

This really depends on the use and budget 😊 I’ve had great luck with the fiorenzato AllGround, it’s primarily a home grinder but it would work in a light commercial setting as well. I also know people using the x54 in trailers as well.

Hey there! Does adjusting the OPV affect the Volumetrics and make them less accurate? I know on my Duo, I've had less consistent shots when dropping the OPV from the factory default of 11 bars, to 9 bars. Just wondering if the Baby T Plus fixes this issue with its "true" volumetrics. Thanks so much!
Yes, the T is MUCH more accurate and as far as I can tell doesn’t utilize the same plumbing as the duo that causes this. Totally comfortable using the volumetrics on the T

You talk about the temperature stability with the steam boiler on and off on the baby T and how the Duo is also consistent in the temperature stability. But did you test any of them?
I’m a small youtuber and don’t own a Scace (yet) or have easy physical access to one. But I have made friends with techs online who have tested them. For now you’ll need to wait for another reviewer to get an on-camera test. I will be doing these eventually, just not there yet!
i am new to the coffee/latte drinking... what could be a good entry level machine to invest in and have home.
Honestly I would check out the breville bambino - such a great starting place! One level up the Turin Legato/MiiCoffee Apex offers great value! But, a good grinder will trump anything else! Way more important than machine. Check out Baratza Encore ESP/Fellow Opus or Turin DF54!

I have had a Linea Mini in my home for about a year. Your points in comparison are very valid. 1) I wish the Micra were out last year. I would have purchased that over the mini due to the fact that I only pull two shots a day on average. 2) it's a HUGE pain in the ass to adjust the OPV as you noted. It was also really annoying to take apart to plumb in. 3) Having the volumetrics as an option is huge. For a home user, this would definitely speed up my workflow in the morning. Any experience with Ascaso service? I know LM is known for having a broad network of service technicians if and when needed. I was on the fence last year between the Linea Mini and the newer VA Eagle One Prima and opted for the Linea Mini in part because it was a known quantity when it comes to service, parts, etc.
I actually did get the solenoid which toggles between plumb in and reservoir serviced on this machine. Ascaso service was speedy, there is a broad network of service techs who will work on these machines and the machine was easy to work on! Your points are all great - serviceability is one of the big pros of Ascaso machines IMO!

Since you have both the Baby T and Steel Duo. Is it possible to retrofit the Baby T steam wood lever and replace the Steel Duo's wood knob? This would honestly make the steel duo look better but have a better workflow satisfaction when steaming milk.

Daddy got coffee! I’ve been looking at the Ascaso steel duo v2. What’s your opinion on that machine? Should I save my money and eventually buy the Baby T? Or would it be sufficient to just get the steel duo v2? Been waiting to pull the trigger and get the duo but not much reviews. And your review is the V1. It just seems like a lot of money to jump from the duo.
I’ve got a V2 arriving this week and I would say that for the vast majority of home users it would be more that you would need. The main point with it is it requires 20a power at 120v (North America). It can apparently run on 15a with a slightly longer steam time. I haven’t tested this personally but I will be shortly!
@@DaddyGotCoffee Will you please do a video on the V2? I am curious to know your thoughts. Right now I am contemplating between the Rancilio silvia pro x and the duo v2. The main concerns ive seen online is the OPV chirping, vibration that rattles the cups away, and the steam power is lacking for its price range. Another concern I have is the longevity of the machine. I want a machine that will last 10-15 years if not longer with proper maintenance.

Do you know if the volumetric system is the same as the steel duo? I mean, does it measure volume before the OPV?
It’s different - the rotary pump Baby T plus does not have an OPV, with the pressure being regulated at the pump directly. I haven’t tested the baby t zero, which includes a vibratory pump!

@@BrkgBeans correct! For what it’s worth, the duo is pretty good - provided you pull in a way that doesn’t engage the OPV, which is possible but limiting, and my recommended workflow on the duo

The Sanremo cube is an impressive machine by the spec sheet. I have not tested it but am working on getting a unit for review. It comes in at a higher price and also with flow profiling👀, both manual and programmed, something the Baby T does NOT have. I think manual mode on this machine will be fantastic, but other features will be made or broken by the rollout of the software and interface

LM was not really on my shortlist, but the Sanremo YOU and Faema Faemina are. Maybe less on the energy saving side, but if you start to compare machines in the same price range, give to take a few bucks, and with similar or even more features, the Faema Faemina or Sanremo YOU should be on it. But these are European prices.
I've been dying to upgrade my espresso machine, but I feel so lost! I currently have the Breville Barista Pro and I use a Niche Zero grinder and I'm finally ready to to upgrade my machine. Do you have any recommendations for machines that might be a good next step? I love the way this Baby T looks, but I don't think I'm at that level yet lol
Hahahahaha yes the baby T is a LOT of machine! From Ascaso, the dream, uno and duo are all solid machines. I have a review on my channel for the Duo. I’ve also seen a lot about the Profitecs in the last year. The rancilio Silva pro is a solid option still and they’re not for me (serviceability is a big issue here) but lots of people like the Breville Dual Boilers! Hit me up with any follow up questions!
@@DaddyGotCoffee Just chiming in again Daddy with my thoughts as I'm also going through this exercise. Maybe there are also other viewers that have a similar criteria to me for a new prosumer home espresso machine? I'll initially refer to the Ascaso Steel Duo PID (2023 Upgraded Steam Model) which is where my focus has ended up after approx 18 months of researching (don't get me started on the grinder). It currently ticks a lot of boxes for me such as very quick heat up (I do only espresso & flat whites), no boilers reheating old water etc, stainless steel water circuits with 2x high quality thermoblocks for steam & brew, good functionality & design with a no BS aesthetic and also energy savy. Daddy as previously mentioned, you reviewed the Ascaso Steel Duo PID about 5 months ago however this was the model prior to the later upgraded steam which I believe also has a few other improvements as well. As you know, this is the model I'm waiting for you to review all the pros & cons in depth however I'm open to other suggestions or comparisons if they also tick the boxes. This will be a very very long term ownership for me so quality is paramount. Many thanks & cheers.

hi, i’m from malaysia i have both machine line a mini and baby t plus. both machine i do for event wedding and popup, line a mini maximum back to back 1kg 50cup non and automatic off (overheat) need to wait 40minit and can turn on back..
baby t plus i do 5kg back to back (NON STOP) from 10:30 am- 4pm still okay and steady.
so for me about the quality or coffee or anything is the same. but if you’re want to style ofcoz line a mini. because lamarzocco branding and people know. from where people saw see Waaa Lamarzocco ha like that 😂

How is ascaso's support in case something goes wrong?
Generally you are dealing with a distributor rather than Ascaso directly. I only have experience with Espresso Parts in the US - they are a commercial distributor/service company who also sell and service La Marzocco and Slayer.
My plumbed La Spaziale Dream at $2500 is a better deal, for home use. 6000 pulls later, and 3 years of use, my machine is just great. Everyone who drinks espresso drinks that I make can't believe how good it is. I have done lots of testing and the temp and volumetric data is very consistent.... and I can pull shots in 5 min also.
Getting mine this week! Decided for ascaso against de marzocco also because my wife needs to operate it sometimes 😊 buttons are better in that regard. Also, smart features are a big plus for me. I missed the part where this machine can be hooked up to the plumming, or is that only for european versions?
You’re gonna love it! The North American version can be plumbed too! I think I said that somewhere but it may have been pretty quick!

What do you think about the allground and the 6g dead Space in the chute?
Can you clarify? Even by the most generous measurements I’ve not gotten close to 6g retention, if that’s what you are referring to.
As far as how I like it - I like the stock burrs. Sometimes I find the steps are a little too wide, or too wide for my preference, depending on the coffee. Workflow and user experience is really good. Retention is (IMO) too high to adapt for single dosing.
@@DaddyGotCoffee yes 1 step is about 4 seconds. The Suisse TH-camr „kaffeemacher“ Said it has 6g. And they measured the particels, its a nice Video.

Why is the music so loud while you are steaming? What noises from the machine are you hiding?
I mean, there is no pump running while steaming so it just sounds like.. milk steaming? 😂🤷♂️ But, to your point since producing this video (and other earlier reviews) I now make sure to include machine sound on both espresso machines and grinders. On grinders I actually take a decibel reading now

@@DaddyGotCoffee this might be a video you’re working on, but between the Niche Duo and the Fiorenzato AllGround, which would you recommend for someone who drinks both Espresso and Filter, sometimes both the same day.
I`m one of those weirdoes that do not like La Marzocco Mini design. Looks like something from the 70`s with plastic details and a fake "padel". Also, regarding tech, it seems to be stuck in the past.
Just made an order for an white Baby T. Its the only machine that ticks all the boxes (for me) in this price range. Profiling would be nice, but I can see that its a stretch for the price.

Most people are looking for home machines. If u are in this group get the Micra. I ❤ my La Marzocco Mirca it has saturated group head and rotary pump for $3900. It’s small not much bigger than Gaggia Classic Pro it replaced. Mirca is stable for 6 quick espresso ☕️ drinks in a row. Most home users will never reach temperature instability if they tried. The Mirca looks better too but this is subjective 😉
I have to say that I really like the hole LM filled with the micra. Still a doozy of a price tag for what you get though! Solid machine

The Ascaso looks like a solid choice. I disagree with you concerning the Mini. I have a mini at home and it s a dream to use. The mini can be repaired for ever. Can the Ascaso be repaired ? There s wires everywhere and it seems to me that there are useless electronics.
You just convince me this is my dream home machine. In Aus. the price of Baby T is about $3500 to $4350 for Baby T plus.

They are both about 6,000 U.S. Dollars, so I am going with the Italian manufacturing as opposed to the one made in Spain!!
This might be the only machine so far that I've seen that is close, and I mean that sincerely, close, to being worth the money. I feel like it's probably ~$1k of just parts before assembly.
It's not just a copy/paste of other parts a company has in it's warehouse and tries to put inside of a fancy case.
This is actually a functionally well designed piece of equipment. It also seems to have very cute touches that I appreciate personally. The tucked away water spout is one of them. For me, machines that have a separate water spout the same as the steam wand is quite excessive and frankly a little to obtrusive in an, "I feel icky looking at it", kind of way.
The placement of the power switches is also fantastic imo. I don't need a big ass power switch taking up space on the front of a machine. I get overwhelmed with "too much stuff" on machines. Even the micra with the massive paddle that is literally just an electrical on off switch feels like it's compensating for something.....lazy design is what I think it's hiding. The huge steam and water knobs are also just way too much. I feel the exact same about the steam valve handle on this machine too. I don't see any reason for it to be so absolutely massive and obtrusive pointing out over the top of the machine. I get the idea of matching it to the portafilter handle, kind of. But honestly, it is just throwing off the clean tight aspect of the design for my brain. I think it would be better served to have it straight down or down and aligned with the angle of the chassis. Finishing with having a valve that is not a 90 degree swing to open. it's completely unnecessary and could be done with a valve that just needs a smaller movement to open it. I feel like the steam valve is pointing in a fairly phallic position while staring me down from across the kitchen.
So, the water preheat tubes running through the steam boiler is proof actual, functional, thoughtful engineers that I'm hoping are paid well, were allowed to come up with and integrate. There wasn't some a**hat corporate money monkey saying, "but but but...that's 25 cents of extra material and we have to design a whole new machine around that and who cares about energy efficiency, i'm not paying the customers electricity bill."
These companies also need to stop having manufacturers make the dumb spouted portafilter. Nobody cleans them and nobody seriously pours double cup shots do they? I guess this is commercial but I still don't understand any benefit to a spouted portafilter. Especially for the just cleaning factor. Unless they're soaked in enzyme or scrubbed properly daily with brushes you're just pouring new espresso over top of old caked/cooked on coffee and coffee oils. It's yucky. Like, do all these manufacturers/companies just have millions and millions of spouted portafilters in storage? The amount of manufacturing needed to make those is substantially more than a bottomless portafilter. People need to stop romanticizing things because of "history". Historically humans used to sacrifice humans to gods for rain. Think forward, not backwards.
Also I totally agree about that sustainable badge on the front. Literal waste of money and I cannot understand why it is there. It had to be designed and manufactured then placed there. Does ascaso get some sort of payment from some kind of energy company for using this badge and placing it and making it so it's kind of not removable without quite conceivably leaving damage?
I think these machines can be great for a small business. Home use, way too much machine even just because of the power it needs.

Overall, Ascaso seem really impressive and Daddy knows I'm hanging out for the Ascaso Steel Duo PID upgraded steam model review. The very first thing that hit me with the Baby T was that over sized steam lever which I would immediately change. My wife would climb that thing like a tree and to be honest, I just don't need that sort of competition and it's got steam as well. Cheers.

You mentioned paying a premium for La Marzzocco build quality. For me build quality is worth more than any feature. Be What are your thoughts on the build quality of Ascaso?
La Marzocco built their brand on the bulletproof rep their machines earned in busy cafes, pulling drink after drink all-day, every day. These machines are built to last like long haul trucks - do the proper maintenance and they’ll run a million miles.
As a home user, are any of us ever going to put a million miles on a vehicle?
The thing with LM is you are paying for increases in build quality that is over an above what any home user will probably ever realize the need for. On top of that, LMs require preventative maintenance that is unique and many home users may not even think of. As I said, the gains of LM are appreciable at a commercial scale but often pretty negligible for home use.
As far as build quality of the Ascaso Line, my experience for each of there models is that they are either best in class or in the top tier for each of their respective price points. I like that even the Duo is fully serviceable - something not usually seen in that price tier

What I'm saying is that theres a 'potential' incentive to use the review to nudge people towards making a sale, which is pretty much sponsoring with extra steps involved.
After seeing the full video I realized I'm arguing semantics because you're not shady about the monetary stuff and I learned enough from the review to help me make an informed decision for a potential future purchase.
How many grams of coffee can the portafilter hold?
It comes with 7g and 14g baskets. The Ascaso bottomless portafilter comes with a precision triple 20g basket which is what I use most of the time. Triple baskets also fit in the spouted portafilter 👍
The 7g single is pointless as it hard to be consistent with that, 15 grams at 1:2 ration is 30ml espress, use a 6 ounce cup and you have yourself a very nice strong flatwhite! or you could do it the Italian way and does 14g and do a 1:4 ration for two espressos but you will need to grind super fine which is good as you do extract more!
As much as a REALLY want to like the Baby T, the requirement (that I feel like nobody talks about) of the 20 amp NEMA-5-20 plug really limits where you can put this in the home especially older ones. And the power draw of the Baby T @ 1710W vs the Linea Mini and Micra @ 1600W makes me wonder what type of stress it would put on my circuit at home. Even my current Rocket gives me problems where I have it (not in the kitchen) and that's a meager 1200W.
But overall great video! The Baby T sure packs a punch.
Yes I did touch on that, albeit briefly, and I agree it’s a consideration (even the Duo V2 requires 20a!) What’s a little counterintuitive about this setup is that while the PEAK power consumption is higher, the overall power consumption is lower due to the thermocoil on-demand heating of the group. But, it can be confusing to explain that it is more efficient than machines like the mini even though the power req is higher 😵💫 As long as it’s properly wired it won’t cause any undue stress in a home! Thanks for jumping in!

Regarding T technology and comparison: dual boilers often also use a heat exchanger. So this isn't that revolutionary, it's just swapping out the coffee boiler in the dual boiler for a thermoblock.
Yes, but no matter how you slice it the combination Ascaso has with this machine is new and boundary breaking. Do you know of another machine running this setup? I may be wrong, but I think this is the only one.

The La Marzocco Linea Micra is an amazing machine and this Baby-T is not to the same quality in my opinion. The Baby T is a nice machine certainmly, but the Micra is a home monster and hence why I purchased one. I know the Micra it will last for a decade or more (like all La Marzocco machines) which most coffee machines dont. You do pay more for a La Marzocco, but their machines last forever, which means you save money in the longrun.

Get a Decent and you'll never want any other machine........not ever.
My experimental stage with different coffees is over and when I want a coffee, the Decent is ready to pull a shot before the water in my sauce pan heats up for my Americano. Easy and consistent every time and yeah, I don't use the water in the machine cause it depletes water storage too fast.
But without Boiler a Espresso has only about 88-89 degrees… the smaller ascasos can do it better. But i bought the Baby t plus too.
I'm not sure if it's a difference of voltages or what, but my unit reaches higher temperatures than that without the boiler on. Interesting.

I just bought a V1 with 15amp plug. I think that’s why it only reach 88-89degree when the boiler is off. Now with the 20amp it’s suppose to give more power to the thermobloc.

It depends. If you’re planning to do a farmers market a couple times a summer and are looking for a machine that would work but live in your home most of the time… you could prooobbaabblly get away with a duo. If you’re building a trailer/cart and you’re hoping to turn it into a real business, I’d probably save the extra and go for a machine more like the baby t.

To me the LM mini is overrated. It's manual paddle only (no AV version), the manual paddle does nothing other than press a button so why not just put in a button, no electronic pre-infusion, no visible water level, and annoying to fill up. I'd wager the decent is better for pure espresso though. The shear number of temperature probes in the decent and the fact that some of them are almost right on top of the puck means that the temperature is pretty accurate. It also doesn't have a steam boiler (because they saw it was a long term failure point in other machines) so you can do the same thing as the ascaso and pull shots relatively quickly.
Totally agreed on the mini. It’s got the build and longevity but as far as modern features it’s sorely lacking. The Decent is absolutely a great machine packed with some seriously impressive tech, and you’re absolutely correct in that if you don’t need steam power or speed it’s a great option. It’s also one of the most expensive machines I’m aware of that can’t steam and pull at the same time. Definitely a niche product but very remarkable
I'll say the duo does NOT have the same consistency. A few reviews show it's got a 20 degree delta during a pull
If you want to look at real data on this, look at the German channel Kaffemacher’s review of the duo.
They’re the only ones who have produced videos with proper tests that I have seen. Some of the tests you are referencing I have seen and have serious issues in methodology. Not that it’s a perfect machine either but check out their test results.

I would never change La Marzocco Mini for Ascaso just to save 300$ in this price range, especially that in my country you can buy La Marzcocco for about 5100$. This Ascaso is pretty though.
I got rancilio silvia v6 (pid), breville dual boiler and decent. I am going to get micra. It will be micra and decent sitting side by side. I dont see the point of someone just review only one brand machine to give out all comment.

You’re speaking as if every machine at this price point offer pressure profiling. The majority don’t, and for those that do for the same price or lower (ie the DE1),the intended use case is very different. You could also strike the La Marzocco LM by the same criteria.

For me if I am spending 5K I will spend another 2K-5K to get the features I want. I am thinking more like a San Remo You, Rocket R9, Dalla Corte Mina, or maybe a Synesso ES1. The Decent espresso machines give you crazy control but they just do not have the quality feel I want. After using flow control on my E61 H/X machine I cannot go for a machine without it is a surprisingly useful tool to get the best flavors out of coffees and make more difficult coffees to dial in very tasty. I do not use flow control all the time but when you need it it is a game changer.

Someone needs to address the elephant in the room which is the fact that this machine goes for ~3000euro from european retailers. I know some price discrepency is normal, but thats nearly double the price that we in the US get this machine. If Ascaso can sell this for 3000euro in the EU, they can sell it for $3900 in the US. Im sure of this. At that price, its a no brainer over the micra IMO. The current state creates a psychological issue for buyers who believe (rightfully so) that they are overpaying for this machine, even if they can justify the $5800 price based on features.

For this price tag, I will 10000% get a Mini. Ascaso is not even a brand??! No one knows this brand. For a few hundred dollar difference, it's a no brainer.
I mean, the Baby T is really a better comparison against the GS3 AV, which is a lot more than a couple hundred dollars difference. If you want to make a purchase based on brand loyalty rather than features, go ahead - but there’s no denying the Baby T is competitive on price.
