The 3ds version could have included some levels from the Game Gear games and had that represent Classic Era, Advance games represent the GBA era, and DS era which the game already has plus a stage from Sonic Rush Adventure. But nonetheless this is still a decent sonic game!
I think it suffered more because the console version was such a great nostalgia trip with great designs and levels, it couldn’t meet the same expectations with the limitations of the 3ds. Great suggestions though.
@@chrisk.3976 A lot of the 3DS stages are secondary stages that would’ve made it into generations otherwise. This game is more a Sonic Rush/Colors sequel than Sonic Generations

the comment section really is stupid. handheld? rush and advanced were 2d? because its a huge problem that modern went 2d right? 6months had this game's development and frankly they did GOOD
if they wanted to focus on the rush/advance style gameplay for the handheld version, why not include stages from the handheld games? This is a waste of potential, making 2 minute long bastardized versions of levels that barely resemble their console counterparts. We have an entire pantheon of handheld Sonic games with unique stages that most people have never seen before, and the 3DS version of Generations was the perfect chance to expose people to that.
Generations 3DS while ok would've been better if they went with handheld sonic levels instead of console imo like advance era and rush era I know they had one rush level but I would've picked deadline tbh
@@uranus007 Thats fair but speaking of Sonic Colors, Colors was the last game at the time of Generations release, so its the last level... I personally wouldn't have picked the first stage of Colors as a final level, I would've gone with Asteroid Coaster instead.
This level is my favourite, and the music absolutely fucking slapped, and is really nostalgic. Generations 3DS is wierdly my personal favourite as it was the first sonic game I ever played, correction, it was the first video game I ever played, and I'm really nostalgic for it.
It's a little more violent in the Classic Version, it smashes through the bridge repeatedly while chasing you and chomping at you...i guess the whales had to to rehab and came out for Seaside Hill to help you instead.
I wouldn't even be able to play this level well haha. I would be too distracted by how the music's so nostalgic and that tiny edit to it that makes it sound less upbeat really hits that home.
Dimps were probably rushed to meet the release deadline. It was the same story with Unleashed Wii suffering because it wasn't finished. A "handheld"-based Generations could have been fun, but I image that many levels would lack notability compared to their console counterparts.
someone should try porting the levels from Generations 3DS into the PC version. I'm really curious as to how Havok and the Hedgehog Engine would treat these levels
First the GUN truck got all overboard with rockets saws and every kind of shit, and now the whale decides to jump out of the water for more than 10 meters with all of its rage! O.O lol xD Sonic Generation AKA Sonic and the pissed ofs
I think the variety is better here than in the console version, since that version has like 4 city levels and 3 Green Hills, but yeah they cut corners everywhere in this game. Still fun but I want my Advance levels!
The find the first levels in Sonic games, while not filled with gimmicks found in later levels, tend to be packed with content. Naka's concept for the design of GHZ was that the player will be replaying this stage over and over, so make it as interesting as possible, multiple pathways, hidden bonuses, tons of enemies, the works. Look at this stage, just look at it. Hardly makes you hopeful for what's to come.
It's like people are stupid these days... Since when the 2D Sonic gameplay have the purpose of replicated the 3D gameplay? IT STARTED OUT 2D, THAT'S EXACTLY HOW SONIC WAS DESIGNED.
The console version also has its shares of first levels (3, just like the 3DS version.) and I'm impressed Dimps managed to pull the 3DS version off with so little time Sega gave them (11 months). I find it to be a better game than the console version and it has better Classic Sonic physics, but I still enjoy the Robotic-Mario Sonic from the HD version a little bit.
Emerald Coast was the most odd pick for the handheld version I'd say that cause how the fact Sonic can now boost in this level, also the fact this is on Advance/Rush Gameplay.
That was exactly my point though, what are you trying to say? Also at the time of my posting that I wasn't aware of the amazing graphics Lost World has.
Yeah, me too. But I guess SA1 and 2 are more memorable stages than any stage from the Sonic Advance Trilogy, plus they would have the problem of choosing which game from the trilogy to leave out, since they only had time to develop 7 stages.
Holy shit, those are exactly the stages I was thinking of! What about the boss battles? I vote for Emerl and (Super) G-Mel for Advance era and Blaze and Egg Nega Wisp for Rush era!
I think the 3ds version was a missed opportunity. instead of making it like the console version, they should have made classic control like the game gear games and modern like the rush titles and used hand held stages instead of console. like the game gear era the gba era and the ds era. rush games, advance 1-3 and colors ds, plus the game gear games.

I kept waiting for him to lose boost and get hit by an unexpected enemy.
Which I know isn't terribly important for a handheld game but the low res really shows on pictures and videos like this.

It's funny how the shadow of sonic from 1:46 - 1:51, stays the same shape the entire time, and the shape doesn't even look like sonic.
