Awarded to the best player in Europe, it has seen 45 different winners since its introduction in 1956 - but who is the best?

Great video guys. Think there is little doubt in the top 10 or 11. Maybe would have had Zidane and Muller a bit higher but hard to knock the ones you have there.

i'd love to know where maradona and pele would've ranked. it was a shame they only gave it to european players for so long because so many south americans would've won it in some of these years.
Pele 2-4 def, Maradona a little more tricky as I honestly rate Cruyff over him but it is debatable
First of all, congrats for the content you guys have been putting up, amazing to see people that love football history.
I do think it's overall a good list, but I have a few comments and things I would do differently, and here are they, from bottom to top:
1. There's not a world to me where Michael Owen is better than Papin, as Papin had a good longevity and Michael's one of the worst in that regard of all time.
2. Raymond Kopa should be higher. Not only was he one of the 2 best players for France in 1958, alongside Fontaine, as he was the best player in the second best team in Europe at the time, Stade de Reims. Really underrated imo.
3. Cannavaro and Stanley Matthews are too high. Cannavaro was never in the top, top tier CB's of early 2000's (Nesta was better, for example), it really was just a "won the WC with good performances" thing. Matthews played before UCL, and never got England to anything worth pointing out in the WC's. I get the respect part of it, but he's too high anyway.
4. I would switch Stoichkov and Law. Law's a legend, but Stoichkov won it in one of the most talented filled eras of all time, and got his relatively weak national team to a historic result, also winning the UCL with Barcelona.
5. Matthaus should be way higher imo, and that's my biggest problem with the list. Actual insane, insane longevity, he adapted through 3 different positions, had as much success as you can possibly want, and he is, to me, the goat CDM. To me, he is, at least, just above Yashin, who's in that position for being the goat, or one of the goat GK's, so that's my logic.
6. Keegan's a tiny bit overrated. Yes, he won it twice, but it's a very weak era, after the amazing early 70's stars. Gullit, for example, won one and came second in another, in an unreal era, so he should be above Keegan for me, for example. Matthaus and Modric too.
7. Van Basten's too low. That guy won 3 Ballon D'ors retiring at 29, won basically everything except for a WC, was a part of one of the greatest teams of all time and national teams of all time and had potential to be a top 10 player of all time if it wasn't for the injuries. Nonetheless, it's still one of the all time peaks in football history. I absolutely cannot see the argument for Eusébio and Best being over him.
And that's it, I would have some other minor changes too, but personal opinion takes a factor in there too. And as I'm writing I realised I said a lot of british players were overrated, but it wasn't on purpose ahah. Take care guys, and keep up with the good content!

I have never understood why modric is overrated to this level. Some people even claim he is above xavi and iniesta which is just a ridiculous claim! Madrid PR is something else.
They were even pushing benzema as won of the best player of the last generation because of one phenomenal season despite him being a sidechick to ronaldo for most of his career and having a disaster of an international career
He’s certainly not a better player than Xavi or Iniesta but Modric’s career speaks for itself. Played at the highest level for far longer than Figo, Kaka and Rivaldo. Has a far greater trophy cabinet and pulled the strings in Madrid’s continental dominance. Kaka did the same for Milan in 2007 to be fair but only was world class for 4-5 years
I would put R9 on number 1, man had exploded his knee, came back after more than a year without playing and won WC and WC golden boot. The most impressive season EVER

R9 lacks longevity, objectively he is top 6-8 if you look at his overall career
Number one with 0 UCL? He has a disaster of a club career after his injury
