Miss Marple is certain that Mr Sanders plans to kill his wife, and does everything she can to protect the innocent woman. Despite Miss Marple’s best efforts poor Mrs Sanders is killed but her husband has an alibi - could the amateur sleuth have made a mistake?
Many readers will note the similarities to a plot device used in Agatha Christie's later novel Evil Under the Sun. The story was published with its revised title in the 1932 collection The Thirteen Problems.

A terrible period for fatal infections for which we have treatments nowadays. Pneumonia and blood poisoning from a needle.
But as we develop the antibiotics, stronger and used at one time for every illness imaginable, the bacteria develops as fast. Now there are strains untreatable and as mortal as those mentioned.
What joy to listen to Juliet Stevenson reading this story. She really brought each character alive and I listened to the unfolding tale with rapt attention

After a while the bell doesn’t even startle me. I'm one of those who needs to change the ringtone on my alarm clock regularly anyhow. We can get used to any noise eventually. I live in silent countryside, but some people from busy towns can't sleep without the noise of traffic! Save me from that fate, please!
