I try to get myself hyped, but i struggle. Even cheap, bottom barrel laptops will likely completely destroy a flagship android device in these old school games for years and years to come. Modern games (witcher 3, etc) will likely never be playable. On top of that, these old games can have crazy huds and key bindings that will make it very hard to play on small devices. RTS games, especially, have lots of onscreen info that might be difficult to see on a small screen. But also old school rpgs, mmos, etc. Not knocking the devs or anything, this is super cool! Will try it once kb/m controller support is added.

This thing should be running box86/64 + wine on top of Ubuntu, and all of them is open source compared to Exagear which was also pay walled so we might not have to worry a lot.
Anyway, I heard a rumor that said the company that made Exagear was bought by Microsoft to work on their project of running x86 applications on Windows on Arm project, kinda cool.

i am here to obnoxiously point out that all of the Java code in this app (the configuration GUI and the viewport) is closed-source, making it just as useless long-term as exagear is. the morally superior option is *Box64Droid* or alternatively spend weeks manually compiling and installing Turnip, Box86_64, wine and DXVK into Termux:X11 and Termux. *big practical upside to this: Termux:X11 has very good keyboard and mouse support, making winlator seem feeble in comparison* @@microlinux

You can just press each button and direction on the sticks and it will automatically assign them. You don't need to fully map them yourself. You just have to add the inputs. • @boblablaw4857

I'm honestly curious why people are so hyped. Unlike a lot of other emulators, even a super cheap bargain basement laptop will like destroy a high end flagship phone in old windows games for years to come. And modern titles will likely never work, or are 5+ years out (witcher 3, etc.). Keybindings and on screen info are going to be a huge hurdle for android devices with small screens.
Am I missing something? Which games or apps are you hyped for?

    • @RandomizationShow
      @RandomizationShow ปีที่แล้ว

@@boblablaw4857 because telescopic controllers allow your phone to transform into a smaller, more powerful and more portable switch. I'm using this bad boy to play the original halo pc ports and plenty of games that can already be emulated thru gamecube and ps2 emulators like Marvel ultimate alliance and sonic adventure, however I'll now be able to play them on the go with mods. And i dont have the space nor the desire to lug around a laptop everywhere i go, i choose 3ds over switch for the same reason. Im not looking to play AAA games here, more like the best available versions of my childhood favorites. Niche, I know. And keybinds for now are a pain but once they add controller support that will be over. An annoying gamepad setup to deal with on a gane-by-game basis, but it should be quite functional aside from games that have zero gamepad support and rely on mouse aim.

Most of them are extremely old games. You will not be able to run anything remotely new or demanding. Phones theselves are pretty weak and developers do not optimise their games for low end laptops with intergrated graphics let alone phones, I have a ryzen 3500u and it doesn’t run games all too well. 720p 40fps on gta5 and less on newer titles.
Phones are out of the question on this one (not to mention the emulation overhead). Please tamper your expectations when you use this emulator. Your phone is just too weak for it for most relatively new titles .You won’t be able to play games like taken 8 even on low on your phones, don’t go crazy trying to run it or any Xbox one/ps4 aaa game, then complain about optimisation. Okay, so for informational purposes, this is just an Android version of Wine, which Linux users, amongst others, have been using to run Windows games on non-Windows based systems, for years, and years, it's nothing new, it's not emulation, it's a translation layer, that converts Windows system calls to the native Linux android uses, in this case.
Thank the Wine community, and, Linux/Unix users who built all of this, they even have their own Android port, it's just hasn't been released for newer Android versions yet.
However, I do appreciate the little extras, etc, that Winlator is adding to the mix, the newer port, etc, just, wanted to clear things up a bit, and, hopefully get people looking in the right places when it comes to progress in the future.

    • @brianprophet1908

And, if my drift wasn't caught, I'll spell it out, the influx of users Android would bring to Wine community would be huge, and, could lead to huge leaps in progress if these communities work together. (ie, we have a vested interest in getting these games running on Android, and, they have the means, and, together, I know we can make it happen.)

This is it, I can imagine hooking a z fold up with one of those phone holder controllers, playing older windows games and I'll never need anything more in my life.

I really hope there's an update soon so it will work with Bluetooth controllers. This is really exciting. There are a lot of indie games that aren't graphically intense and could easily run on my flagship android phone but they're only available for Windows, no android port yet. Unfortunately steam link works when I'm home but not really for when I'm traveling.

@@erencanulas2818 Sadly not, gave up and not bothered since. The issue may of been device specific, I was using a samsung a905G at the time.

If this could be optimised, then imagine, not just gaming, the utility for this! Software that's PC only can be used anywhere you go!

I just managed to run Dead Space on my OnePlus 9 (10-40 fps), you can actually map a controller to keyboard keys and mouse, hopefully later on Bruno can implement XInput emulation.

Sweet video dude. I wonder if it can be used to play older MMO titles like Phantasy Star Online, the Ephinea server has an exe you can install. I wonder if it will run on my Pixel 4 haha

just the video i was looking for. i have this old MMO zombie game from the late 2000s that it'd love to try on a phone/tablet. its not a very demanding game but it does require a browser to log in and access the worldhub, hopefully i can get it to work.
