Unfortunately the retail public dont seem to grasp the importance of things being right and fixed , they dont understand the domino effect , 1 fault leads to another, especially with diesels , as then it wont regen itself , then dpf blocked as we know , great fix Baz , well done 👏 👍
Perfect timing. Got the exact same car with exact same issue. Service indicator on and not as much poke as it did have. Already replaced that boost pipe in the summer. Glow plug time. Thanks Baz!!
@neilballam8701 i had a glowplug go out on my insignia... tbf it did only effect the start up but ran fine... really you just want to get a diagnostic done to know more
@@ginobragoli1448 nowadays glow plugs are used for cylinder balance, common rail diesel vehicles will start without them as fuel is more atomised, outside temp needs to be below -15°c for them to work to assist starting , but if faulty a regen of the dpf will not occur, thus causing more issues , and more costs if not fixed
Glow plugs seem to be a bit of a weak spot with diesel engines and you'd think by now manufacturers would have made sure that they can be removed without them snapping off. My VW T5 was a nightmare to get the plugs out of and I've yet to face the problem with my Renault Trafic but my mechanic's tip to getting them out is to actually tighten the offending glow plug slightly before attempting to loosen it off
Mines had 2 glow plugs in 5 years (pressure ones), but other than that it’s been faultless. Had the oil seal and pump done at the same time as the cambelt for peace of mind. Oplmonitor app is good for keeping an eye on the DPF.
OMG Baz bluetooth tyre depth gauges we are losing the plot in the motor trade what happend to good old depth gauges if you buy one of these it has to pay for itself so the customer picks up the tab for it seen that post do you have the cold loving your post on holiday so just watching you tube videos
Nice long playout with the exit music! Anyway, top work, and yet more proof that there’s no such thing as a bad modern car, as long as you have a Baz nearby to keep it running perfectly.
I have a 2012 Astra J 2.0 cdti with these pressure sensing glow plugs fitted. At 50k miles the 'service engine soon' warning came up so I put car into Vx dealers who changed one of the glow plugs and charged me an arm and a leg. At 80k miles the warning came up again so being electrically minded I got my multimeter out and metered all the glow plugs, I twigged that the centre contact is the heater element and sure enough the dud one was apparent with a reading of 80 ohms. I swapped it out and upon starting the car the warning disappeared so no need for diagnostic equipment to switch that off. The remaining two failed at 110k and 120k (one reading 18k ohms and one open circuit) so a huge variation in how long they last (I bought the car with only 15k on it so they were all original to start with). The car only went into limp mode once due to glow plug failure but returned to normal on re-starting with the failed one still in situ. I never had a problem removing any of them. Insignias of this era seem to have a bad reputation but my Astra (which I think is the same under the skin) has been incredibly tough, long lasting and reliable so Vauxhall can make decent cars, maybe it just depends what day of the week they were made on! My golden rules have been to service the car annually (10 - 13k miles in my case), make sure the garage use the correct oil and never switch off the engine when a DPF regen is in progress. Cam belt and water pump changed at 98k, car now on 147k miles. No sign of the oil pick up pipe seal problem everyone warns about. Thanks for the videos Baz, always interesting, informative and good fun.
Vauxhall service vehicle soon usually means a fault not necessarily needs a service.. Had a few vohos... The latter ones are garbage. Don't expect the reskinned citroens to be much better. Good vid though. 👌🏻
Vauxhall are one of the worst for back ordered/none available parts. Anything over 10 years old and you may run in to a problem. But at least they're putting PSA parts in their cars so it's all good 😅😂
The same thing came up on my 2015 1.6 diesel Astra last year a week after it was just serviced one glow plug had gone my usual garage was relocated to do the job because he was worried in case they snapped in the head so he told me to take it to is friends garage who he us to work with in a Vauxhall main dealership his friend told my about the expensive plugs £180 each but after walking into town to to kill some time 45 minutes later I got a phone call to say my car was ready to go but the best thing it only cost me for all plugs less then one pressure sensor plug luckily my car had the Ordinary type fitted
I cant fault my 2012 Insignia 2.0cdti with the A20dth engine. Ive had to replace the boost pipe and glow plugs on mine. I do oil and filter changes every 5-6k miles and its currently on 176k mile and still get 67mpg on a long run. Thing is with cheaper cars peope who dont look after them by servicing them which in turn gives cheaper models and makes a bad reputation, Look after your cars engine and oil and it'll last. Ive just bough the 2017 Insignia with the b20dth engine in and have to say its alot quieter than my 2012 model.
Had one of the first Insignias into the UK back in 2008 a 2.0 CDTI Elite, Undoubtedly one of the worst vehicles I've ever ran warranty claim after warranty claim couldn't wait to hand the pile of junk back 🤣
i have a 2015 insignia 2.0 cdti biturbo... and i find whenever there is any error code coming from the engine control module it brings up the service vehicle soon alert... i had quite afew dpf issues with my car previous owner had it mapped unknown to me but eventually i got it sorted... never once did the engine management light come on... other then that its been a great car the last 2 years

Hi baz - my m8 had an older Vauxhall astra company car and he monitored his fuel consumption carefully as he got paid per mile. He noticed fuel consumption dropping off and knew he needs a glow plug which when fitted brought the mpg back up. My question is do the glow plugs run all the time rather than just start up ?. And if so why ?.
Hi baz, apprentice mechanic here . have a question about an absolute piece of scrap I own. 1.4 TSI B6 Passat that suffers from cold start misfire , has 13Bar compression each cylinder , timing chain is good , coils are good (scoped ignition timing) spark plugs were changed of course , cleaned intake valves (wasn’t the best job used carb cleaner and a pick😂) car vibrates like a rattle can in the cabin on cold start don’t know where else to look.. injectors also ok .. no fault codes for misfires only see live data for cylinder 2 and 4 misfiring when Cold Really noticeable when it hits 50-80 degrees on temperature gauge also it’s so strange I’ve never had such a weird problem, changed high pressure fuel pump because it was damaged and threw a fault for it (seperate issue) and has constant 50 bar fuel pressure in the rail completely seperate issue I really thought that was gonna explain the cold start vibration when I repaired that fault but unfortunately it didn’t
Unfortunately the retail public dont seem to grasp the importance of things being right and fixed , they dont understand the domino effect , 1 fault leads to another, especially with diesels , as then it wont regen itself , then dpf blocked as we know , great fix Baz , well done 👏 👍
You can only test the heating tip on the glowplug, but 99% of the time its the sensor bit that has failed which can't be tested 👍
Perfect timing. Got the exact same car with exact same issue. Service indicator on and not as much poke as it did have. Already replaced that boost pipe in the summer. Glow plug time. Thanks Baz!!
Glow plugs are only used for start up, wouldn't affect it's poke!
Glow plugs are used for more than just start up.

Not lazy but working smarter by utilising the equipment you have. I like your channel very much.
Another great video Baz - hope the sore throat doesn`t lead to a grotty Christmas break - you deserve a rest and recharge!
