Its nice to see some mechanics still know how to do a proper job
People should protect their cars for rust, as the manufacturer don't do this properly anymore, like in the old days. I gave my toyota Auris 2013 a Dinitrol treatment and it's like new. Don't let it rot away!
This has just happened to my little Vauxhall Adam. Happy to say we caught it before it could do any damage to anyone! Great video showing what happens in the repair. :)
Great job mate, that's some scary 💩. I had a lower wishbone just suddenly snap while on holiday, slammed the wheel right back in the arch. Quick trip to get parts all was able to get home. 🤙
I understand your thinking on covering the bolts with copper grease but unless the torque specifications you use specify wet threads you will be over tightening all the fasteners substantially. Take a look at torque test channel video on torque wrenches, you will be amazed by how much a fastener is over tightened when you use anti seize on the threads.
Yep, i only grease the plain portion/shoulder of the bolt, not the threads! After it’s done up, i sometimes slap grease over the exposed threads to prevent corrosion. Good advise sir 👍
I have a 2011 Vauxhall Insignia estate which I have owned for 12 years. About 4 weeks ago I received a letter from Vauxhall offering me to take my car to the local Vauxhall agents and have the rear toe in plates on the rear subframe checked. They are the plates you would use to adjust the tracking on the rear wheels. I took the car in and they replaced the plates free of charge. I think looking at the state of that front subframe on that 2015 Adam they might begin a recall on that.
Just Google Corsa D (same car, different body) rusty front sub-frame. Loads of stuff about how Vauxhall main dealers were (possibly still are??) replacing rusted out front sub-frames for free for cars well out of warranty.
The four rear bolts are supposed to clamp four "bearings"........they were on the old one.....not just washers but have ball bearings in them.....to locate correctly and prevent looseing and potential noise..... May i suggest four new bolts and a set of bearing washers.....
Glance under your Audi A6 at the rear subframe. You may be shocked too. Or your BMW suv.. Or your Dacia. Or your Kia/Hyundai.. We get all those in with rusted out subframes at very young ages. Wanted to say too Baz, we're seeing more & more yokes in with knackered injectors (diesels) & the owners are stunned that they're worn out & at the cost of them new. Most we can get reconditioned, some we can't - but trying to explain that injectors last about 120-140k running low sulphur diesel before the tips are worn due to absolutely insane injection pressures of common-rails is like trying to explain algebra to a squirrel. People just get pi55ed off that they suddenly have a bill - and then more pi55ed off that getting the injectors reconditioned takes ages as the reconditioners are swamped. They are here anyway. Plus the injectors have often fecked the DPF through over-fuelling.... which REALLY gets peoples backs up. "I need what????" You seeing that?
@@khalidacosta7133most MOT will get their magic hammer out. Any surface rust will be picked up and heavy corrosion picked up regardless where it is on the frame. Just look at the shock absorber the state that is in.
Depends when the mot was done, the mot only covers you for the time while the test is done, if it looked ok at the time of test and was still attached then nothing to report
How on earth did the splines "turn" on the drive shaft, surely it's a soiled piece of steel? I would have covered the new sub frame in wax/grease if that was my car. Still at least it was another wet belt😂
What is people's opinion on brands? Do you get what you pay for? Or is there just a brand that you use because you trust it? I need rear drop links on a 14 year old insignia. I went to order 2 BGA ones, but out of stock, any suggestions? Delphi, blueprint, that sort of thing it's 14 years old so not looking break the bank but want reliability. Thanks
Also the original Vaux. Meriva but I seem to think that front subframes were subject to a warranty replacement many years after they were built but cannot remember the time limit on claims ..
Sorry Baz , did you just say 2015 ? The audio goes quiet when you say 2000 & …… this is a reminder of the Austin Maxi / Allegro / morris Minor when the front wheel hubs use to collapse through lack of MTCE ie grease , I’m pretty much sure you remember those days , I certainly do & im 53 but this appears to be lack of shear corrosion protection or quality workman ship from the factory, that exhaust down pipe connection with those unbelievably rotten nuts , is just another unacceptable issue waiting to happen , Id get it if it were a 15-20 year old car but less than 10 years , really ?? it needs stainless nuts instead of these cheap shite steel crap they fit , glad I don’t own one of these but good vid once again Baz , & no I’ve never seen a drive shaft spline twist like that either , can only guess that when the wheel locked against the arch , it must have skidded till it stopped while still in motion , putting the drive shaft under major stress while in gear , see you on your next vid mate regardless of what it is (more eco boost wet belts lol 😂) 👍🏆👍 🤙
Shocked! 😮 Did the last MOT miss this? Looks as corroded as the titanic. And all that would not have occurred if vauxhall had painted it properly. My 2016 C-Max is similar in places (and WORSE than my 2007 Mégane). Rear disc shields are razor sharp Swiss cheese, rear axle covered in thick crusty rust.. PAINT THE CHASSIS PARTS PROPERLY!!
why change the whole drive shaft and not just the inner coupling feel for the customer as new subframe and all the other parts shame on you vauxhall you have sold the product down the river cheap cheap cheap
They are cheap to buy used, the parts are cheap, £154 for sub frame, drive shaft £53 new parts. Also super easy to work on yourself. Once sorted cheap reliable motors 😊
Ziebart.maybe should have had 20 fifteen minute sessions. Something wrong here was vauxhall buying aftermarket third party sub frames for their production line.

Great tip on the driveshaft circlip Baz 👍😎

Great job mate, that suspension coil spring compressor looks the dogs tatties! Safety first 👍
Shocking condition . I had a BMW 3 series the same year and the black paint was still on the suspension components. It was that clean.

Great Vid Baz..... There was a recall on some of these, so could have been worth checking first (if you didn't already)

@@bigdaddymak1439 Always called them that. They call them sports tourers now. Another older term for them would have been shooting brake.
Is the car worth all the cost of the work and parts?
Another quality job. Tidy 👌

My CR injectors are on 230k.... DPF does need flushing but that's on 120k... so expected... LOL
See loads of vauxhall Adams and corsa like this as a roadside patrol
How did that passed on last MOT ?? Surely it's been rusty for years
My thought 2. 🫣
Looks like this car has been running on a bent MOT for years🤔
Dunno... the corrosion seemed to happen inside the subframe where it can't be seen.

Yes
Nah just a little rust😂😂😂

Not good to think that the part just fitted was built to the same spec as the one that failed , ....happy motoring 😊
It would be interesting to see who motd the car
Usual as an advisory to simply note (corrosion to sub frame) if hasn’t yet structurally failed but then goes on to fail within the 12 month period.
Same problem on the Corsa.

Do u not swap the 4 spacers off the old subframe to the new one Baz
Did you have to adjust the tracking after replacing the subframe and arms?
@@Jezzamiah78 yes
Reminds me of Vauxhall's from the 50's and 60's. If you listened carefully you could hear them rusting.
HAAAAAA, nice one
Usual Vauxhall issues
Subframe slightly corroded but not seriously weakened... maybe so if you're blind or bent
