I've tried metal medium on a few figures. What I concluded was that it's best mixed with an ink (not a wash, an ink). Vallejo's own inks are great for this, though I'm sure others work just as well. Not that you couldn't mix in paints, but inks seemed to perform better. I also prefer to paint it over a metallic undercoat, since as you noticed it's fairly transparent. It would be even if you used something other than yellow. It's a fun little substance to play around with. And yeah, end result is a pain to photo well :D
Thanks for all the tips! I will give this all a go, sounds all like it would be correct to me, and saved me the time of working it out for myself! :-) Thank you!
A real tricky model to film and get a picture at the end, but it does look really nice in person! I was fairly impressed with the Metal Medium, any one else had any experience with it? Are there any other mediums I should know about? P.S. I completely forget to mention I primed it with Desert Yellow at the start!
Very nice work, I was waiting you to paint this "not tony stark survivor", thank you. I'm just a bit disapointed concerning the mace with no incandescent effects
Thanks Christophe! Sorry, I did consider it but I’d already had enough of a challenge for one week :-) perhaps I can add a second video where I got back and do just the mace!
I enjoy videos that learn us particular technics ( ex : how you will work black for Fylguria ) , or the use of an unusual color. Do you think a 50/50 Daemonic Yellow / Claymore Blade mix for armor, and Babe Blonde / Claymore Blade for HL will make the same effect ? I don't use Vallejo paints
Hey Christophe, I do not think it would have the same effect :-( did you try it? easy to try, but I think it won't work. You could always get the Metal Medium and use the Army Painter colours, I think that would work!
If you're having issues with pin washing (like his chest region), you can gloss coat your model first, then apply washes. After it dries, you can do a matte varnish to finish the model
Thanks! The reason for the gloss varnish is that the wash is repelled by it, so it will naturally wanna sit in the recesses. Great way to paint hordes of models fast!
Really like the experimentation with the metal medium. Going to have to try that one myself, would love to see what it can do with some other colors (don't know why but metallic black sounds awesome.)
Thanks Rob, yeah I'm glad I picked it up to show you all, I didn't know it existed two weeks ago, and I think it's great to discover new products for us to paint with! Very interesting, I'd not even considered trying it with black! Definitely want to try that myself now!
I didn´t even know about this before you uploaded this video, so thanks for that. And my first thought was to try it with black, because I was looking for a black metal for Gannicus.
I was the same - didn’t know about it until last week and thought I had to try and let you all know about it :-) hope it’s useful to tell everyone about. Also sounds like I really need to give it a go with black!
You were saying how you don't like minis that are large that don't have a lot of skill needed, you could always paint Finarton the giant, or even better Paul Bonner's Kirag and Thorg to do a bigger mini with more detail. Also I LOVE all your work! Its amazing! (Paint Kirag and Thorg)
blast, i'm almost done with the chaos knights for heroquest. that metal medium would've been nice for their red armor. your mini looks great, thanks for the video!
Yes it's a reference to Tony Stark! He is basically Iron Man! Check his moves, Iron Skin and Fireball he shoots and can move around fast with his iron skin armor!

Looks great! id like to hear about brushes, i finally bought some nicer ones and i couldn't believe the difference! but i'm looking to get some more so any reviews would be great!
Thanks for the feedback. I think it’ll be useful too. Just not sure how to format it. Got quite a few different brushes and things to say about them all
You know, even after 2 years of painting now, it still surprises me every time just how bad yellow is. Like we all know it right? I always say it’s the worst, but I forget just HOW bad it is each time :-D
Dude , awesome!!!! Great job man. Keep up the great work.
Thanks Alberto!
Right on
Looks great as always I will have to check out that medium. The coloring turned out great. I like the mace.
That is some serious precision painting.
Thanks dude! I didn't think it was that precise! One of the issues with the camera in my way :'(
Well, I would never be able to pull this off. I did try some plastic modeling in the past, but struggled with the painting. I'm better at RC models.
Thanks lots for this. :D
You’re welcome dude
Really great job man. I now need to try that metal medium.
Yes! Would recommend man, give it a go!

I didn't, I'm on ballista actually, I think I will purchase a gold yellow paint for Anton Guffen. Is Medium Metal" same than Gun Metal ?

Amazing tip! Thanks

Thank you for your advice on the metal medium. I just bought it so I can paint Anton Guffen, but I will paint it in the Iron Man color scheme.
Awesome! Sounds like a good idea too! Do let us see your results when you’re done!

I think you raise a good argument :-D Sadly I don't have Kirag and Thorg :-( so it will have to be Finarton! Sooon, soooooon!!!
HaHa Darn. Soon Sounds good though.
Brilliant as always! That Metal Medium is wicked! I havnet tried mine yet. Need to figure out the right model.
Yeah I want to paint some more to try it more. Let me know if you think of any more models with coloured armour!
blast, i'm almost done with the chaos knights for heroquest. that metal medium would've been nice for their red armor. your mini looks great, thanks for the video!
Thanks Jason, yeah I've painted a few models in the past with coloured armour, definitely wish I'd heard of this stuff sooner :-)

Badger is a Dwarven Wolverine and the other girl is a Storm look alike!
Badger has been on my "must paint" list for weeks, I need more time in my life!
Would love to see a paint brush review
Will start working out how to do it! :-)

Oooh. So quite similar to what I did! Possibly just a slightly better tone?
Looks great! id like to hear about brushes, i finally bought some nicer ones and i couldn't believe the difference! but i'm looking to get some more so any reviews would be great!

He is based off of Tony Stark.
it could be easily painted with iron man colors, just add red
Oh definitely! I saw a few people do it like that, and it looks fun.
He is supposed to be Iron Man.
Non-copyright infringing ferromagnetic metal man!
Loool. Wish you’d said that before I made the video. That would have been funny to say in it :-D
i hate painting yellow and orange, like you mentioned it's a hard color to paint. The paint itselfs looks like liquid plastic if you use it.
You know, even after 2 years of painting now, it still surprises me every time just how bad yellow is. Like we all know it right? I always say it’s the worst, but I forget just HOW bad it is each time :-D
Amazing how whatever the paint company yellow is 💩. Maybe and yellow ink to it? Hmmm i will try that.
Yeah it sounds like a splash of yellow ink might work even better... let me know!!!
