Great work Austin! #applaudaustin Does anyone else prefer light tone over the darker choices for metallics? I've always used black wash, but this video has made me want to experiment more :-O

This was great, was really good to have a longer video format to more easily learn from than most of the video's. The finished result looks great though it does remind me of the English Red Jackets uniform that really stood out to the enemy lol

Great job Austin! Really like the tip about starting super thin with the highlights so you have the freedom to either embellish what is there or create something that isn't. As for washes over metallics, An Asset Drop recently showed mixing the wash with your basecoat to matt it and bring down the color a shade or 2 at the same time (nobody likes a shiny shadow.) This also allows a wider variety of tone with just one color. It has changed my painting so I thought I would share since this channel always inspires me.

I find it an add aesthetic choice that they opted to sculpt him dual wielding but still wearing his shield on his arm; that seems at best to be awkward to me. That aside (since you had no control over that creative choice) I think the miniature came out looking great.

As a novice miniature painter, I like the undercoating technique you used. Highlighting is so time consuming and tedious. Great video! 👍

Glad you liked it, I'm the same, any small gain on highlighting I'm always interested in, I love base coating, and washing, but for some reason highlighting is my least enjoyable bit by a long way!

Spend the time to learn to do highlighting. This is where your model will reallly shine and look good if you put the time into learning how to do this.

This looks awesome but what do you do to seal the mini? I find myself using dullcoate a lot of the time but it kills the metallic look a lot of the time.

So, I mostly use Army Painters’ satin varnish, my metallics look great, but then the rest of the model is a little shiny... for me it’s a perfect balance for me to be happy enough though. When I do more important pieces, heroes, competition entries etc. I will coat with one varnish and brush on another. For example I might spray dullcote/matte, then use a brush on satin varnish on the metallics, then use a brush on gloss varnish on eyes, tongue, open wounds etc. Hope this helps!
