Wooooah, that was one the longest amounts of time I've spent on a single miniature! Took a lot out of me :-( What's the longest amount of time you've ever spent on one mini?
Usually around ~10 hours for a really detailed mini, but a lot of that is going back and fixing small mistakes. My Butcher already has ~15 hours or so, and likely 15 more to finish him. Ah well, it's not often I paint without filming so I'm taking my time with it.
Might be my favorite of your videos to date. Not for the model per say, but, for the thought process that you shared with it. For me my favorite part of any painting video is the thought process behind things like the color, step, or technique choices. Bang up job sir!
Thanks Rob. Was a longer video than normal so I had to fill more time with my brain :-D but yeah, was a genuine struggle for me, so very easy to relay it to you all! Thanks for the feedback, it’s so hard to know what is good in my videos! To me this felt too long and wafflely, but obviously it’s not come across like that! We all like different things eh!? And I’m super happy to make videos for everyone!
That’s great to here! Welcome to the club :-) it really isn’t that hard to get decent results - that was my whole reason for starting the channel. I’m super un artistic, I’d never held a paint brush before :-D it’s definitely a skill to get insanely good, but I think the majority of us can be very happy with our results very quickly :-) the Discord channel is really helpful if you need help from 10-15 other painters with a mixture of experiences :) they basically so my work for me now :D
Pity you felt unmotivated and/or exhausted from this one, looks absolutely amazing and must be an amazing eyecatcher on the table! Absolutely love it. I normally try and do things my own way (even though I don't have a lot of experience yet with painting) but i'm not ashamed to say I will actually try and recreate what you did on my own model with this video at hand!
Thanks man. Yeah it was sad I found this so draining. Don’t get me wrong though. I’m pretty happy and proud now it’s done. I get a lot of my enjoyment from a finished piece, painting is fun a lot of the time for me, but I’m most happy with the end product. So when a miniature takes a long time to get there.... I guess that’s why I find it so hard :-)
Beautiful day to be alive in North Hollywood California. The sun is out. The birds are chirping and Watch It Paint It has uploaded another video! Good job. Thank you for all the content and hard work.
Haha :-) awh thanks Jerry! I don’t think I’ve missed a single Friday video since I started! Seriously hard work but it’s so lovely when they are appreciated :)
I just got to say I love seeing this community of painters in the comments. It's encouraging to me. I now know how i want mine. Going Green Horde doing a green dragon.
I love the claws and the back of the wings. You did a great job making those realistic! The wings look very "leathery". I think this guy was worth the extra time - he's almost more of a show piece than a game piece anyhow haha. I can't see me dragging it all the way to someone's house for a board game night.
Thanks mate. Yeah this is one of my first models I actually just want to leave out on shelf for people to see. I was also thinking with GH that I don’t think I could be bothered taking it to my friends house any more. There’s just too much stuff!
I cannot wait to paint mine but I am going to use it as a display piece on my shelf so it will be a very very long process. It is such a beautiful sculpt. By far my favorite model I own. You did an awesome job on yours.
I am a huge dragon fan. I own several and have them tattoo´d on me, but I think the necromantic dragon is way better, with it´s pose. And I really cannot wait to get my dragon from time of legends.
Oh nice! I wasn’t sure what to do with mine now he’s painted. I too would like to leave him out on display but I don’t have much room for that... maybe I should make some! I think the nec dragon is better too! But that was the one expansion I didn’t get :-(
Like already mentioned in another video, of yours, I have none of the expansions, but will buy them when they go to retail and til then I still have my feral and probably the ones from Time of legends and Black Rose Wars.
Here is my Vault Dweller. Looking at the abominations he looked interesting. I didnt follow artwork i went red to make him a demon. The base i wet blended red, orange, yellow all army painter paints. Then a clear gloss over base and rocks. And yeah gravel rocks from parking lot at work, ha, ha. Sorry for poor quality and shaky on my phone. I think for Christmas i need a camera. I appreciate your feedback and your videos. Ok i messed up and now added the video! Lol th-cam.com/video/7lbHWp0w37I/w-d-xo.html
Great question. Depending on the paint I add either a touch of water or none. With metallics I add no water for example. Any of the more watery colours I skip thinning them too. If it’s a really thick edge I’ll blend the edge with watered down paint - if it’s a single thin edge that you can’t blend, I’d skip thinning. Hope this helps!
What's the quality of the plastic like? The packaging looks like the Dark souls Board game and I found that plastic to be awful. Does it cut cleanly when removing mold lines or does it just tear? How floppy is it?
The plastic seems good. Wasn’t an issue cleaning it up, I just missed the bit on his face, hidden among all those ridges along his nose. It’s definitely not bendy!
Is there a reason you didn't prime the body in red? I mean especially if your red paint didnt match the spray can... It seems like you could have saved a lot of time there
My reasoning was that I primed it in skeleton bone which saved me painting all that boney chest part down the middle - it’s easier to paint red on top of skeleton bone than the skeleton bone on top of red, it was also harder to get the primer in the nooks and crannies of his skin - easier to do that with a brush. I knew the red not being 100% match wouldn’t be an issue once the wash was applied plus it made the front look more highlighted which I think it should be. Having said all that, it was still quite a close decision, I do not think it would be wrong to do it in red if you wanted. But that was my reasoning :-) hope it made sense
Very nice work! :) I wish you could display each colour you're using (down in the description) in the video when paint with it. But maybe i didn't recognize every fade in of colour info? Did i? :-| ^^'
Hey man, thanks! I do show (with an overlay) every colour I use in the video, and in the the description below I list them all :-) Or do you mean something else?
Haha. While I was painting it, I did appreciate how many large models Benson does for us! I’d forgotten how long they take :D lucky for Benson that I don’t have the other dragon :-(
I just left mine to snap in and out so I can put him back in the box. If I can find some other way to store him I would probably add glue - just stops any chance of them falling off while playing, though they are stuck in quite well, but would also let me line them up perfectly and fix them in so they can’t wiggle out of the perfect line
Thanks! Love your videos. Seriously helps me so much. Also love that you use the zombicide paint sets because that's all I own. Can't wait to paint my Feral Dragon!
Cheers dude! That's really nice of you to say. Also great to hear you like the Zombicide paints being used! We all have different paints and I can't cater for everyone, so its nice to know I occasionally hit the nail on the head :-)
I would suggest pinning or using magnets to keep the wings from falling out. Magnets would be best though, easier to transport with out having pins poking out.
Hehe. I didn’t need much warm up :D feels good getting the largest one done. Hopefully easier and easier from here. I can understand that. If I had a Matt varnish I may have just used that. But I only have a satin one :D having said that. I think dragons would be a little shiny with all the scales? Do show me yours when you’re done, I’d like to see what Matt looks like on it
Not 100% down with the insides of the wings, but everything else looks amazing! But i don't know how you could have made it better with the wings so no offense
None taken fella. I quite like the wings myself but can easily see how people might not like it. I think my videos can be just as helpful to see what colours to avoid for some people :-) let me know how you do the inside of the wings would love to see some alternatives!
Wooooah, that was one the longest amounts of time I've spent on a single miniature! Took a lot out of me :-( What's the longest amount of time you've ever spent on one mini?

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO; DAT LOOK GOOD
the Spearmaiden cyclopes took along time, but i did try NMM on the shield and shoulder armor for the first time.
NMM alone can add hours to a paint job :)
@Big RazO Angry Joe, is that you? :)
Might be my favorite of your videos to date. Not for the model per say, but, for the thought process that you shared with it. For me my favorite part of any painting video is the thought process behind things like the color, step, or technique choices. Bang up job sir!

Your videos are the reason I'm going to be painting my miniatures soon. You make it look so easy and I can't wait to follow your step by step!
That’s great to here! Welcome to the club :-) it really isn’t that hard to get decent results - that was my whole reason for starting the channel. Nicely done sir. He turn out great. I’m looking forward to painting the necromancer dragon
My one regret is not getting that expansion. Can't wait to see what you do with it.
I’m looking forward to you painting that dragon too. Sounds like a lot of people want to see that video!
Pity you felt unmotivated and/or exhausted from this one, looks absolutely amazing and must be an amazing eyecatcher on the table! Absolutely love it.

As always really great job!! Thank you, thank you. I had no good idea how to start that dragon.
Cheers! Hehe you can tell in the video I didn’t entirely know where I was starting either, just winged it.
I just got to say I love seeing this community of painters in the comments. It's encouraging to me. I now know how i want mine. Going Green Horde doing a green dragon.
Thanks Chris! Yeah I enjoy the community aspect immensely too. Quite distracting to my day though, we’re all so chatty :-D
That was my thought too. It´s called green horde so I will maybe paint mine in a toxic green, at least when he will finally make his way on my table.
I love the claws and the back of the wings. You did a great job making those realistic! The wings look very "leathery". I think this guy was worth the extra time - he's almost more of a show piece than a game piece anyhow haha. I can't see me dragging it all the way to someone's house for a board game night.

KurtKn1sp3l cannot agree more. Just an excellent design, and sculpt. It looks so mean and aggressive and scary.
Oh nice! I wasn’t sure what to do with mine now he’s painted. I too would like to leave him out on display but I don’t have much room for that... maybe I should make some!
I think the nec dragon is better too! But that was the one expansion I didn’t get :-(
Watch It Paint It no need for a sad face. You still have this amazing beast
Like already mentioned in another video, of yours, I have none of the expansions, but will buy them when they go to retail and til then I still have my feral and probably the ones from Time of legends and Black Rose Wars.
Nice work.

Nice work. You should paint Gorgomination next.
Thanks dude! And that is on the must-do list :-)
Great videos!
Thank you!!
Amazing result. Can you please paint the swamp troll soon? I’m keen to see what he will look like.
Thank you! Ooohhh I’d not even considered doing that one yet, I’ll have a look at him for you :)
You did the feral dragon now it is time to do the necromatic dragon!!! It should only take you 10 hours or so lol
Hahaha :-D I would cry!! Luckily I don’t have that expansion otherwise I would have painted it by now :D
omg finaly! exciting thumbs up before watching
Haha cheers Keith, hope it was worth the excitement! :)
Finally getting back in the painting groove after vacation. Here is my green Feral Dragon
th-cam.com/video/wWPu2hsguzU/w-d-xo.html
Pretty far from the art work this time, but he looks sweet nevertheless. I absolutely love what you did with the base too, awesome!
Yes far from artwork. I also cut off the spikes on the tail and off middle of the back. I just didn't like them there and got in way of the wings
Are you going to do the larger dragon from the expansion set
I'm hoping we will yes! I personally don't have it, so I'll be cheering Austin on to do it :-)
when you are edge highlighting how much do you thin your paint ?
Great question. Depending on the paint I add either a touch of water or none. With metallics I add no water for example. Any of the more watery colours I skip thinning them too.

Does this mean your sending the Necromantic Dragon over Bensen's way? 😂
Haha. While I was painting it, I did appreciate how many large models Benson does for us! I’d forgotten how long they take :D lucky for Benson that I don’t have the other dragon :-(
Did you glue in the wings or just leave them to be snap on/off?
I just left mine to snap in and out so I can put him back in the box. Love the magnet idea!!!
From the smallest to the biggest?
It´s an awesome job again, although I don´t really like the glossy look.
Hehe. I didn’t need much warm up :D feels good getting the largest one done. Hopefully easier and easier from here.

I don´t even know when I will start with mine and how it will end up.
I didn’t really know how mine would end up either :-D I just started it and went along with it until it was done. Hehe

looking good but the question is where is wolverine ;)
Haha. I know right!!! The whole bloody reason I bought the game and I haven’t had chance to paint him yet! I don’t think he is even next :,(
noooo :( ;)
