    Destaining books using HOP or BLED can work magic on dust lines, tide lines, foxing and many other kinds of stains. CGC has recently wised up to this practice and when they spot the signs of a H2O2 treated cover they will return the book with a conserved blue label that states: “cover cleaned”. They don’t always make the call but when they do it is often because the H2O2 causes a slight stipple to the cover that can sometimes enhance its gloss. One can detect this by touch. Another round of HOP using water can return the glossy stippling back to normal but one always takes a chance with this technique. Thanks for this great video Bry. I always learn something from your show. Many thanks and cheers!

    Great help explaining how to grade a little better. Didn’t expect that many ticks on the spine to grade in the nines, but if smaller than 1 inch then all good

      The flaws for anything above an 8.0 should be quantifiable, measurable and objective. But they won’t take the time to write 4 word grader notes let alone measure a spine tick. It’s doable, they just don’t want to take the time or have to justify their mistakes.

    • @mattthompsons520
      @mattthompsons520 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Supertomscustoms true. I’m sure the sheer amount of books they get in is probably a huge factor also.

    Great informative video, anytime I see a stain that's not that big I always downgraded a grade and a half to two grades if it's a large Stain I just don't get it but cgc saying that there could be a stain and still get a 9.6-9.8 come on that's crap if I ever saw any kind of staining on those High grades and I was purchasing it without inspecting it I would be furious and feel cheated

    Water stain drops 8.0 automatically then the other things wrong with it so 7.5 is actually a great grade. Should be more like a 6.5

    One of your more interesting videos particularly concerning your grading accuracy because it shows how wrong we can all be from time to time. Despite that I think we all need to aspire to be as comprehensive as we can when assigning a specific grade or grade range. I think that having a universal fundamental understanding of grades--especially by sellers--will do much to educate the collecting community and make reselling and buying easier and more enjoyable for everyone.

    I noticed on my vintage submissions, the last two they hit me pretty hard, out of 25 I agreed with 2 books. Even showed to other dealers and they agreed it was pretty harsh. Oh well, part of the game we play

  • @Lithograph_Comics
    @Lithograph_Comics ปีที่แล้ว

    Couple things:
    1. I was about to callout the Batman 423 being a 2nd or 3rd print, but I looked it up in your store and I see you mentioned that already. I can't believe they missed that on the label. Oh, wait. Yes I can. lol
    2. Quick story about stains: I have a House of Secrets 4.0 that has a small stain on the back (that goes through most of the book). The book presents MUCH better than a 4.0, but that was the grade it got due to that stain. CGC beats the Hell out of you over staining, BUT...on the plus side you can get some monster grails that present like mid/high grade books if that stain is on the back. (Silver lining and all that!)

  • @rayengstrom1905
    @rayengstrom1905 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    CGC is so inconsistent lately. That Batman #423 was nowhere near a 9.4 with all those defects. Not to mention they labeled it as a 1st printing when that UPC was only used on the 2nd and 3rd printings.

    • @pulp420
      @pulp420 ปีที่แล้ว

    It’s crazy how hard they grade with a stain. I had a ASM 300 that I guessed was a 8.0-8.5 but because there was a stain in the upper corner they gave a 6.0, brutal...

  • @Enrique-Garcia
    @Enrique-Garcia ปีที่แล้ว

    Question for anyone who can answer: if the book's spine has color-breaking creases (let's say those are the only defects on the book), is it worth getting it pressed? The color breaks would still be there, would it actually grade better if the creases were gone and the breaks remain?
