Doesn’t seem to be same book sold 3 years ago for simple fact sale happened February 2021, but this copy graded in December 2021. But otherwise very interesting, especially how much CGC actually told you about the book! Not sure how I feel about this if it’s not my book.
@@omarnagi3489 lol yup, my mistake. So definitely wasn’t this copy that sold for 44k which is a good thing. Hopefully that 44k sale was a legit 9.9 and this one doesn’t even come close to that price.
So, if we all know something is not what it seems to be, we should not just all go along pretending the obvious mistake is the real thing? I totally agree 🥊🏅
So, if we all know something is not what it seems to be, we should not just all go along pretending the obvious mistake is the real thing? I totally agree 🥊🏅
9.9s and 10s are so rare they should ALL have to go through an additional certification step from a head grader. Once again, CGC continues to fail the collecting community as a whole.
I have sent a submission of 8 books to CGC and all of them came back lower than the same issues that I had in worse condition! I have had books damaged by both CGC and CBCS and the damage was not even mentioned in the grader's notes!!! I am absolutely done submitting!!!!!!!
Honestly there’s not much of a worse feeling than buying a book at a high high grade, getting it in person, and realizing there’s no way you could ever resell it at that same value.
Cgc in the last 2 years has become toxic from the reholder Scandal to the Mis grades to the damaging of books with the inner Wells I will be staying away from gradebooks ,raw is the way to go from now on I used to love collecting graded books but with all the issues in the past few years it's just not worth getting a graded book anymore
I love it when you talk about the behind-the-scenes of the comic book business! I changed my way of thinking by selling my books because of what you said in an older video. My main goal now is to move inventory. I was waiting for the big sale to come through while not spending enough time on the other books. Sales have been going steady since. So, thanks for helping a dude run a little eBay shop as a hobby!
I purchased a Nick Fury 4 CGC 9.4 from comic link years ago. There are no grader notes but the book has an extra staple. CGC quality control is really hit or miss. Thanks for getting this video out.
Great info bro! It amazes me that issue after issue keeps coming up regarding these graded comics. I agree, mistakes happen, but when they keep happening on an ongoing basis, you have to wonder! I see why people are holding off on buying/submitting pricy books. 🧐
Weird book it seems. My 9.8 copy of the same book had the same defect on the top edge along with the ripple caused when the blade comes down to cut the paper, plus the off wrapped cover. Guess they went easy since it was all bindery defects. Glad to see mine wasn't the only one.
Aww. You warmed my heart by sharing my Hulk. It's sitting right next to me and we're having a nice time watching this...oh, my god. Hulk's crying. S***. I never expected THAT to happen.Going further into the video and am surprised to hear that CGC told you about the notes. That's a great tidbit for those books whose grades are significantly different from grade expectations. I've got to 9.6 books that when I compare them to the CGC Guide look like they have allowable 9.8 defects. It might be time to call them. They really should just make all of the notes available at this point. It's ridiculous to have them and not provide them straight awy to the consumer.
Wow, my 9.8 looks much MUCH better than that copy. Pretty sure that was supposed to be a 9.6 and it got entered wrong. There needs to be a recall system or something, that's pretty ridiculous. This isn't as bad as the mis-graded GS X-Men #1, but it's bad
Great video, as always. I've never sent any books in for grading, and have a few like New Mutants 98 that I'd consider sending in, but things like this make me really hesitant. Guess I'll hold off.
While I know factory defects are not supposed to detract from the grade, they should not be allowed in a 9.8 let alone a 9.9. It’s ok if not every book can achieve a perfect grade.
I agree with you about how this isn't a 9.9. Also, if I ever get an overgrade on one of my books to bring it up to that high I hope none of the big comic You Tubers does a video on my book, hahaha.
I gotta say, if the difference in value between a 9.8 and a 9.9 is over 40 grand, I can't believe there's not corrupt shit going on somewhere along the line.
That's just crazy. Getting harder and harder to trust graded books and thats not good for the industry. I also find it hilarious how much Transformers books are going for these days. They were always a dollar bin book for most of my life and now they go for thousands. You never know how things will play out in the end!
I'm not exactly a newby to collecting but honestly, there are times I've forgotten basic stuff when I see a good book with a good grade. Thanks for the reminder! And thanks for bringing up the integrity issue among dealers.
I have 2 copies of a silver age comic that are graded. 7.5 and 9.0 and they look almost the same. I was smart and bought them both at almost the same price.
You're buying the label, not the book. Truer words were never spoken. With that in mind, everyone can send me their 9.0s and I guarantee that I (with the help of my gold sharpie) will regrade these books to 9.9s. In fact, send me your 1.0s and I can regrade to a 10.
Its interesting because if all copies have a similar bindery/printing defect I could see how they might grade them on a “curve” It reminds me of a Punisher limited series #1 that I bought off the rack that has a red ink fingerprint on the cover. It always bothered me but it also makes my copy unique. I wonder if it would be considered a defect, and also whose fingerprint it is lol
Great video Bry! More of these so folks can get educated about grading and what to look for. CGC is far from perfect and knowing what to look for makes buying decisions easier.
This is why I never buy high grade slabbed books. I love buying 9.2 books and cracking them open, because nobody seems to want them and they are usually beautiful books. Now I'm more of a traditional collector and do like to read my stuff. This really high grade stuff seems to be targeted at investors. Good video.
I am sure that both the person that submitted the book to be graded and the person that will buy this book wouldn't want you to be their grader, lololol. Getting any book back at a 9.9 is one of those lottery lifetime wins, they are keenly aware that some people do buy the grade and not the book. So it was a big score for them.
Let me start this long winded rant by saying that I love your videos. Very informative. Please help me understand why most people favor CGC over CBCS. Both you and other TH-camrs have accurately pointed out that CGC graded books typically sell for more money than CBCS. Why? I get that CBCS is not very flashy and their marketing department does little to improve their position in the industry, but we’re not paying for flashy. We’re paying for an accurate grade and a quality slab that will protect the book. Both of which CBCS provides. With all the controversy around the 9.9’s and damaged books and fraudulent books why do people keep flocking to CGC? Maybe you can do a video about this subject to help me wrap my head around it.
I’ve done many videos over the years talking about the absurdity of this and how they should at the very least have equal resell. But they don’t. CBCS is worth about 20% less. I don’t know exactly why. I would GLADLY switch to CBCS if the market sentiment changes and I hope it does. But if I switched now I would go out of business…
Some inconsistent grading occurring. Still haven't submitted anything for grading as it's much more expensive from Australia. But with this happening, putting me off for sure!
Heritage sold me a FF49 8.5 White Pages, after winning the auction I noticed the top staple was rusted in the case ! No mention of that in the grader notes. Had I zoomed in the photo I would have seen it. Heritage told me I was on the hook for the book. So I reconsigned it to them. In the end I lost at least 1K... Lesson learned
As the saying goes: buy the book not the grade; except, of course we almost always trust the grade. Once in the market there is not much one can do about it other than to be a savvy buyer which is your point.
Weird finds! Really cool. On that Transformers, is it possible that the damage occurred or worsened after encapsulation? No idea if that's in the realm of possibility, just a thought.
If nearly every issue of this book has the “chad”, then there should be no existing 9.4 and up. A 9.8 or 9.9 should be exactly a flawless book. No exceptions to that grade. It goes against the very rules of grading
This is scary-to have books out there like this. Does their quirkiness contribute to their rarity? Or are we encouraging these type of mistakes to exist in our community? Should the 9.9 go back to CGC to keep their integrity intact?
I actually had the pleasure of getting one of the CGC 9.9 books from one of your previous mystery box that had the A5 and other grail books. that book was clearly a 9.9 and I was able to trade it for a CGC 7.0 ASM 101. But the question is did that person buy the book or by the label?
Doesn’t seem to be same book sold 3 years ago for simple fact sale happened February 2021, but this copy graded in December 2021. But otherwise very interesting, especially how much CGC actually told you about the book! Not sure how I feel about this if it’s not my book.
Where did you get the sale data for the 2/21 sale?
@@BrysComics isn’t that what was written in the ComicLink comments? “It sold in our February 2021 sale for $44,000”?
@@omarnagi3489 lol yup, my mistake. So definitely wasn’t this copy that sold for 44k which is a good thing. Hopefully that 44k sale was a legit 9.9 and this one doesn’t even come close to that price.

i send in flawless books that get 9.6s and that piece of shit gets a 9.9? cgc is garbage
Now I feel ripped off. My 9.6 has the same chad without all the other issues. Mine should have been graded a 10!🤣
Resubmit with a note saying please go easy because it's a common issue and see if you can get a 9.7.
Unbelievable. You would think that any 9.9 or 10’s would be flagged for super duper triple checks by the folks at CGC.
Especially for a 1 of 4 type situation
Brutal. For the money they charge, a book should go through a secondary grader for a pass. For anything 9.9, it should go through 5 passes minimum.
9.9s and 10s are so rare they should ALL have to go through an additional certification step from a head grader. Once again, CGC continues to fail the collecting community as a whole.

Cross fingers, PSA presents itself as a better option.
Honestly there’s not much of a worse feeling than buying a book at a high high grade, getting it in person, and realizing there’s no way you could ever resell it at that same value.

It's a shame that these books are being sold, but the buyers need to take a close look at all photos and make sure you agree with the grade.
Great advice as always. Makes me wonder how often a 9.8 gets rated much lower. I’m sure it happens but not a happy little mistake in that scenario.
I love it when you talk about the behind-the-scenes of the comic book business! I changed my way of thinking by selling my books because of what you said in an older video. That’s great to hear man, congrats!
The grader must not have had his morning coffee that day lol
Thank you, Bry, for yet another insightful lesson about collecting. Glad I found your channel.
Man wtf... I'm not buying that 9.9. That will regrade at 9.4-9.6. They better step it up or my money will be going to PSA in the future
I purchased a Nick Fury 4 CGC 9.4 from comic link years ago. There are no grader notes but the book has an extra staple. CGC quality control is really hit or miss. Thanks for getting this video out.
Im just getting into Comics, thanks for the great video!

Wow you have to look at the book not just the number! 😮
Great video! A lot of helpful information. Can't wait for the one going through your process. Sounds interesting!
Could be an honest mistake. Still unacceptable of CGC (Curved Graded Comics) to not have impeccable QA for 9.9 and 10.0 grades.
Wow...thanks for sharing, Bry!
Due diligence is needed more than ever now in the slab world.
Aww. You warmed my heart by sharing my Hulk. It's sitting right next to me and we're having a nice time watching this...oh, my god. Hulk's crying. S***. Thank you for keeping us informed
That’s insane, is very rare though

Dang that is crazy
While I know factory defects are not supposed to detract from the grade, they should not be allowed in a 9.8 let alone a 9.9. It’s ok if not every book can achieve a perfect grade.
I’m new to trying to grade but I think I could spot a non-9.9. BTW, I love the 7.6 grade. Certainly a one of a kind.
This is why I don't play the 9.9 game . It's a total CGC Scam !
Unbelievable!
Thanks for the knowledge and insight.
I agree with you about how this isn't a 9.9. Also, if I ever get an overgrade on one of my books to bring it up to that high I hope none of the big comic You Tubers does a video on my book, hahaha.
Love the video bry, very informative 🙏
Whoa this is crazy
Great info per usual, Bry. I was waiting at the end of the vid for “Now you know. And knowing is half the battle…”😂😂😂
😂
I gotta say, if the difference in value between a 9.8 and a 9.9 is over 40 grand, I can't believe there's not corrupt shit going on somewhere along the line.

Another killer video, keep up the good work.
For as hard as 9.9s are to get, you would think theyd have a harder time making out the door like this
Exactly! I mean there’s only 4…
Way over graded - thanks for sharing 🤘
I have 2 copies of a silver age comic that are graded. 7.5 and 9.0 and they look almost the same. I was smart and bought them both at almost the same price.
I definitely don't want to be a fool. Thanks for all the great content!
That's pretty wild.
Madness. Looks like a 9.2 to me.
$100 bucks for a 7.6 was a cheap shot. That’s a $2000+ book.

Here for the slabs

Thanks for all the useful info
Someone at cgc has had a nice little back hander there
No fools allowed

Damn I’d love that 7.6 hulk
The 7.6 is incredible. Absolutely worth a bill for the gag
Agreed
Does even make sense to send comics to CGC anymore? 🤷🏾♂️
“Virtually perfect” 😂😭💀💀💀
I have a Toybiz reprint of Marvel Premiere 47 that cgc labelled as the real 1979 copy lol.
Heritage sold me a FF49 8.5 White Pages, after winning the auction I noticed the top staple was rusted in the case ! No mention of that in the grader notes. crazy.
I wouldn't be surprise if these 9.9 are owned by the CGC insiders
Ugh my name being thrown around as trash again 😩😂😂 2:17
Not youuuuu Chad lol
Great info
mistakes aplenty coming out at the moment
Good vid and info Bry!
I have been done with slabs. Thanks for sharing, man !
I see people on ebay selling facsimiles at original prices. So shady.
Thank you for keeping me on the right track as always!!
As the saying goes: buy the book not the grade; except, of course we almost always trust the grade. Once in the market there is not much one can do about it other than to be a savvy buyer which is your point.
I don't own a single CGC slab.... Only own CBCS slabs because I've always liked their looks more
Wow! Add this to pile of CGC issues over the last several years. Thx for your video!
Weird finds! Really cool. On that Transformers, is it possible that the damage occurred or worsened after encapsulation? No idea if that's in the realm of possibility, just a thought.

Unbelievable, i cant catch a break on books that i think are 9.8! Always seem to get the lower grade…
I have bought a book out of excitement and didn't inspect It like I should have.
"Chad". I learned a new word today...
I know it’s a mistake, but how do you make that big of a mistake as a professional comic book grader🤦🏼♂️
Wow....just wow....
All those slabbed comics remind me of cds, dvds … worthless. The comic is what’s valuable, potentially. Not the encapsulation and grader opinion.
Transformers #1 was just reprinted this week
This is scary-to have books out there like this. Does their quirkiness contribute to their rarity? Or are we encouraging these type of mistakes to exist in our community? Should the 9.9 go back to CGC to keep their integrity intact?
CGC is a joke. But the bigger joke is that people will pay more for CGC. CGC = fools gold.
Bingo.. there suckers
Crazy
I actually had the pleasure of getting one of the CGC 9.9 books from one of your previous mystery box that had the A5 and other grail books. that book was clearly a 9.9 and I was able to trade it for a CGC 7.0 ASM 101. But the question is did that person buy the book or by the label?
That’s a hard lesson to learn when you are overpaying a book!
