- I've got another big CGC comic unboxing and I made a big mistake in this one. This video is for a 10 book High Value Tier submission and there are some great books in here as well. I haven't checked the grades, so let's see how we did!

As I watch this, I see your short - Saying Goodbye - for some of these. Sad to see them go. That Famous Funnies is still my favorite. Probably in my top 5 ever. Wish we had better access to these in Canada.
I think that you’re picking good comments at shows is what helped get the high grades. I am not able to really see the significant differences when looking at a raw book to tell if it’s a 5.5 or a 3.5. That is what made your selections so good.

Ryan, I always enjoy your videos, especially your high/low sales videos and your CGC grading videos. Even though this video started on a sour note, at least you had a pleasant surprise in the end along with other pleasant surprises in between. Ive had the same experience with my submissions to CGC. Most books came back at my anticipated grades with some pleasant surprises and a few unpleasant ones. You just never kmow with CGC!
Appeal the grade. Take a lot of photos, email CGC and make your case on what you see versus what they saw. Maybe you can get them to re-evaluate it at no cost.
Or just submit to CBCS

Wow! My heart was racing waiting for the reveals and seeing the grades ... cannot imagine yours! Roller coaster unboxing it feels like today. That CS16 is nice - and I was actually bidding on one after seeing your video (it would be my first PCH ever). Congrats on that one and the other Gold label.

There is ASTONISHING #10 (Atlas March 1952) that predates MENACE #9 (January 1954) by 2 years. On the cover of ASTONISHING #10 there is a zombie and the blurb reads "THE MENACE OF THE WALKING DEAD". I do not know if another horror comic predates this one with a mention of the Walking dead. I know there is one that says ZOMBIE as a blurb, that might be earlier.
Menace #9... first appearance of Beetlejuice. Haha
On the pedigree with restoration. I would weigh the option of naturally damaging the book to the extent of eliminating the restoration and resubmit for a gold label hoping for a 3.0.
I clocked the first book at a 6.0 before you even pulled it down and most likely foxing and discoloration on the inside covers brought it to that 5.5.

I'd def have Kenny Sanderon (@Sanderson_Studios) look at that Captain Battle and see how to approach getting the resto removed. I think its worth it.

For the circumstance in which a restored pedigree is slabbed, they should have a gold rectangle surrounding the pedigree notation, against the purple background. Give it visual credit for the pedigree!
It seems like CGC has been SUPER harsh in 2023. I have seen some crazy low grades for seemingly SUPER minor defects. I wonder if all the outrage last year and new hiring has them playing it SUPER conservative...
It was just the first one. Everything else was on point. Which is why I will likely resubmit that first book and see what it gets.
That Captain Battle really is very cool...but you would know best from an economic standpoint if it's worth pursuing further...
If I send it back in to have the restoration removed it’s not the correct decision financially, but I might do it anyway.

Ouch that resto sucks. You are not the only one that made a mistake like that.
Yeah. If you submit enough books, it happens eventually.
Did the presser not notice the restoration?
I don’t ask him to notify me of restoration. I’ve sent in restored books as well to get pressed. It wouldn’t have changed anything other than maybe having it removed first.
The mistake was me missing it when I got it, because I would have returned it immediately. But once you’ve had the book for a little while it’s on you as the buyer. Asking for a return after the fact like this isn’t fair either.

Yes. I would resubmit as a new submission.

Yes it can
Thanks man I appreciate your response. I have a book that has markings for the Pennsylvania pedigree right age and type of comic but its low grade so Im not sure if I should send it to cgc
Without documentation there’s no guarantee you’ll get the pedigree on it. I’ve sent in two books without documentation and got 1 of them pedigreed based on the markings. The other they just graded as a blue label.

Are you getting these books cleaned and pressed boss? From the first book im seeing a spine roll and a dirty back cover. Im seeing stains that can be removed oiii veyyy!
I’m not sure what you’re talking about. There is zero spine roll to the book and the back cover is clean. There is foxing on the back cover, but you can’t clean that. I’m guessing maybe you aren’t very familiar with golden age books.
Also, yes, stains can be removed but you are taking a risk of getting a restored label doing it. Plus that kind of work is very risky on golden age books.
CGC is a scam. Use a better service.
I’d have to disagree. I’d use them over any other service.
