- Hey, Friends! Welcome back to the channel! I am VERY short on time and I had to make a decision on which option I wanted to pursue. Charlie and I settled on an B18B1, Integra LS bottom end that he had on hand. Why not just go K-series you ask? Two things... Time and money.
Also, I just wanted to say how appreciative I am of the homie, Charlie. He didn't have to do anything, but decided to contribute his time and parts into making sure the EG is back up and running. I am forever grateful for this dude.

We understand and we can relate bro, I'm glad you won't miss any more events
Thank you! 🙏🏼
everyone thinks the can do wide open throttle pulls without tuning!!
this is the result of detonation the b20's do not like it AT ALL.
b20v is a great reliable motor when done right. glad to see you are back on the road!
This setup was tuned. There’s no way I’d take a setup like this untuned, but yes, glad to be back up and running!
Stay B series just keep a spare LS bottom end
Yessir! For now, that’s what it’ll be!
Loving this series and your filming and editing style, keep up the great work!
You’re one of not very many who give me feedback on the video quality/style! Haha thank you, glad you enjoy it!
@@bvspeed Thanks man, I literally just tonight finished doing a full GSR brake swap on my EG (rear disc, front disc/cali/knuckle, teg booster and MC, stainless lines all around, WOW the night and day difference in braking, Your videos keep me motivated building my track EG!
The k series may be more reliable and more powerful, but the b series sounds more raw and exciting. Luckily I don't circuit race my b20v and try to keep a few spare blocks in my shop in case I hurt one. It does seem a little silly to have this many spare parts for a daily driver
Haha never hurts to have spares!
I've been running my b20v for years..zero problems on track.
Lucky you! I had a high compression setup with a built head though.
@@bvspeed yeah I'm 12:1 comp on e85, skunk2 pro 2 cams. Zero iessues. Stock rods ARP rod bolts, spin it to 9,300 all the time. GSR trans but 4.9FD from gear X. I do plan on making another motor though. Everyone seems to crack sleeves but me.
@BigRichard_ that's fire bro, similar build to mine. 13.5 compression e85 stock rods arp rod bolts and head studs, kelford 176C cams 75 shot nitrous
@@scottg1962 yeah we don't drag race, I do road racing and some time attack. We have a boosted lsvtec eg coupe we do hillclimbs with and some time attack also.
@BigRichard_ I hear that, I also prefer road racing and autox vs drag. That's why I love these kelford cams, flat torque curve
White T-Shirt mechanic….very relatable @charlie.moua.doryoku! We’re all still waiting for you to K-swap, that day will come…we’ve all been there with the “B” engines. Good stuff tho Brian, LFG!
Haha thanks man! The K will come one day…
Good luck 👍🏻 I hope you finish at time. Don’t worry ,sometimes the the things happen for one reason .
Thanks for the support! I’m working hard to get it done in time!
B for the win!! Im a OG..
Yessir!! 👌🏼
Can’t wait to see it running again on track and very earthly vibe to the new build lol
You and me both brotha! Thanks for always supporting 🙏🏼
everyone said K is the way. I understand but I love the B series just like the guys who love single jingle, the same as the H
Haha for sure! There’s just something about them…
K is cool in all but I like to challenge myself like a b series Or d series build
Heck yea bro. LSvtec is no slouch either. I had a LS vtec setup I built with CTR pistons. Monster engine, definitely more reliable then a b20 setup. I did arp rod bolts and pro2 cams and revved it out to 9,500rpms trying to blow it up cause being my first personal build, I took a short cut and didn’t bore it out. It would not blow. I just ended up going 84.5 ITR piston b20 block cause I had to try to keep up with k series. Good stuff bro, you’re gonna love that setup. I made 210whp with my CTR piston LSvtec on pro2 cams
That’s basically what this setup is. LS bottom end with CTR pistons. Full valve train and Pro 2 cams. Did you run E85 also? We’re estimating that this is going to make around the same power as the last setup.
@@bvspeed no e85 for me, my car was tuned on crap 91 octane gas with conservative timing. Can’t wait to see what your motor does.
Charlie is a godsend for ya lol. Good friend for sure. Glad to see you getting the car back up.
Right? What would I do without him lol
I just upgraded my LSV to B20V. I'm keeping the LSV as a spare just incase!
I’m sure it’ll be fine in a street car, but always good to have a spare!
@@bvspeed Do you know what ultimately caused the failure? Aggressive tune? Inadequate cooling? When I take my B20v to the track I’m thinking a few cool down laps are required and no more then 2-3 hot laps at a time.
Definitely going to be avoiding a B20V like the plague after seeing what happened to yours. Cracked cylinder = basically similar to what the 996 911s suffer from: CYLINDER/BORE SCORING.
Haha, yeah. LS is better for sure.
You are SO fortunate to have a Pro Honda engine builder friend like Charlie. I take back my earlier K swap comment. You have a titan B18 so you GUCCI now! Send it!
Haha! I am very fortunate!
What's your next event? Is the LS a short term solution to get you back on track or you going to stick with it long term?
Next event is Mid-O with NASA in exactly one week 😬 and yes, you’re correct. It is only short term. The goal is to finish the next couple events to progress through the HPDE program then comp school in August. It literally only needs to last another 4 events then I’m taking the second half of the year off. These past few months have been $$$ lol then… maybe K 👀
Has nothing to do with "Go K Swap" at all. Here is your problem. You didn't do an install of an upper cylinder brace with a torque plate. At high RPM your cylinders are walking from left to right turning your cylinders into a peanut shape. It took me three blocks to find this out. After installing a cylinder brace with a machine shop securing it after using a torque plate, the problem is all but gone. My friend had a similar problem but come to find out his issue was caused by using a B18C head on a B20 block and after switching to a B16 head and getting the proper Bore to Stroke Ratio corrected his issue went away. Welcome to racing.
Keep the B alive. You can't beat havin the OG engine that started it all. Buy a K and store it until the day keeoing the B alive is no longer possible.
Trying my best, but B-series is just too hard to find parts for 😢we’ll see what happens
Hope you don't mind me asking, what's your full time job, Brian? Sorry, just curious as I've observed that you know how to wrench on each and every part of the car.
Is the HR shirt in 2:49 of the video telling of some future plans? 😉
Liked the editing done during the engine building section of the video 👍
I don’t mind at all! I’m the Chief Technician at a supercar driving experience company in Chicago. Been wrenching on cars prior to this job, but it’s what really got me into driving!
I actually have HR products on the car! Haha! Hoping to actually put them on a K in the future…
Glad you liked the engine building. I always saw it as something therapeutic so I figured the music would give that vibe.
@@bvspeed That explains it! 🍻 Also, K is nice but LS is good too, anything to get it up and running for seat time. 👍🏾
I haven't pored over the playlist of your car build but will be going over it during my free time, I appreciate your effort of documenting it. I mean it takes time to build a car from the ground up, but it also takes a lot of time to edit all of it.
Have a great weekend ahead 🍻
What wiseco pistons did you use for the b18/b16? Did you have any clearance problems?
They’re Nippon pistons
Was this a stock B20 block?
Now I'm scared! I got a b20 block from ramey racing for my em1 and doing gsr head plus all appropriate add ons/tune...but I'm not planning to race it, only street driving 😅
The block itself was stock, yes. But the pistons were different which bumped the compression up to almost 13:1. You’ll be fine as I don’t think you’ll be ripping on it as hard as I was lol. My car is a dedicated track car so it sees nothing but abuse haha
Hey by any chance do you know where his shop is located? im building a lsvtev b18 i just need the block bore out and to install the pistons and rods lmk bro! Im in the chicago area as well
He’s in Minnesota, but not really working on engines right now.
Is your coolant temp reading off the OE sensor + ECU or an aftermarket standalone gauge/sensor ?
Reading off the OEM sensor, then the S300 Bluetooth’s it to my tablet.
B18 can take the punch.... B20 motors dnt like the high revving that's why they crack their sleeves
Found that out the hard way lol
@@bvspeedyes brother.... We all learn...
What brand pistons did you go with for this?
I believe they are the cast Nippon pistons.
You lost the b20block but not the Reminiscing it gave you for a life time. LsV than for sure K in the future brother.
That’s the truth! Thanks for the support!
I’m looking to get some engine work done. What’s Charlie’s info?

Damn I made the comment too soon 😩 save the b series 💯😭
Haha yeah… still B series
Put a 170 thermostat
Sleeving a B20 block is still cheaper
Yes, but time was the deciding factor here!
@@bvspeed Oh I understand that time made the LSVTEC the logical choice in order to be ready for the next event. What I meant was that going forward a sleeved B20 block will still be cheaper than doing a whole Kswap.
.......go K
😅
😆
*1st*
🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
All cylinders cracked.. u revved it too high.. and you didnt use a block guard.. and .. your engine builder didnt ballance it correct .. one of those if not all happen.. 🫡
It was built without knowing I was going to be running it that hard lol. Oops.
Block guards causes over heating complications and can be more devastating then just a cracked block
