Syntell You were right it was Rose. Brigadier Alastair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart (commonly known as the Brigadier) was a recurring character from Classic Who and is an important character who was an ally and military friend of the Doctor's during his exile on earth during his third incarnation and served as scientific advisor. The actor who played the Brigadier Nicholas Courtney sadly passed away in 2011 aged 81.
'"Get off me so I can get my real baby--the TARDIS!!!" LOL!!! Oh, I can't believe how happy you've made me by doing this right away! THANKS! (And I get the feeling I should thank Martha as well :) ).
Donna didn't say she wanted to go home because she wasn't cut out for this a couple of episodes back. The Doctor thought that's what she meant but then realized she meant she wanted to go home for a visit and then return to him and adventuring.
No we're talking about right after the Planet of the Ood, she just wanted to go home and he knew she felt a way but when they finished that mission and freed them all, she reconsidered but hadn't told him yet.
@@nupefromdaville Yeah, you're right, she does say "I want to go home," but I don't think she means she's making a statement that she is quitting and going home there either, just expressing being overwhelmed. She's the one who faces that it's slavery; the Doctor actually lags a little behind there. And she's extremely committed to saving them. He does ask her towards the end of the episode whether she still wants to go home and she says, "Definitely not." She's committed now. Maybe her reiteration of the phrase "I want to go home" here hits the Doctor a little hard because of her saying it previously, but I don't think she was giving up. What we really learn here is how much he doesn't want her to leave, I think. Maybe just me.
If you look into the back story of Time Lords, you will see that Time Lords nature is halfway between the Master and the Doctor. When the Doctor travels too long by himself he reverts to the true nature of a Time Lord. It was very insightful for Donna (in The Runaway Bride) to remind the Doctor that it is better that he doesn't travel alone. When the Doctor punished the family of blood, he was just being the typical time Lord. In the past, Time Lords were known to erase entire alien species from existence. This is because they posed a threat to time and or just in violation of the laws of the Time Lords.
I still feel mixed feelings on Martha leaving early to this day, she definitely deserved a longer run. But I appreciate that she was put with UNIT because it allowed for an emulation of some classic doctor who stories. This 2 parter felt close to the 3rd doctor episodes in the 1970s. Anyway the episodes in the second half of this season are simply amazing. All I’ll say is you better be careful because an upcoming episode opens a mysterybox and people will be itching to spoil you on those livestreams.
The Doctor was giving people final chances right from S1: E1 (and, I believe, back in Old Who but my memory is hazy on that) and we saw it in the Christmas Invasion as well. But he doesn't always give it and it's not clear what his criteria are for allowing that final chance.
He has to keep his gross hand jar because it’s a time lord hand and last time he left it behind Torchwood got it and Jack was able to use it to find him. He may not want a jar of his own fingers - but he also doesn’t want anyone else to have it. Still though - the TARDIS is huge - he doesn’t really need to keep it on the dashboard. Surely there’s a broom closet down some corridor and an old towel to throw over it.
It was written for Donna to be wearing heels 👠 but she didn't want to - wish they'd done a little rewrite for a different object or found some compromise shoes that wouldn't look so floppy 😆
One thing I always hated about the moms in this story is that they all have the same (albeit reasonable) reaction of "when the doctor appears, shit goes down. he's dangerous. Stay with us" but no one ever stops and thinks that maybe when serious shit is going down, the doctor appears
Awesome reaction 😊 I can’t wait to see the reactions to my favorite episodes down the line in this season, especially my ultimate favorite episodes: Turn Left, The Stolen Earth, and Journey’s End ❤❤❤❤❤😊 #whovianforlife
"Guess a leopard can't change its stripes"... mmmm, actually, I guess that's technically true. Yes that was Rose. Yes that was the Doctor's hand. Things are brewing, and what I'm saying here will not let you work out what in any way whatsoever.
Can’t wait for you to watch the rest of the episodes this season. From now onto the last, it’s jut hits after hits (not like the earlier episodes weren’t). You’ll see the doctor start to display the burden of a time lord in more ways than one. Im so glad that y’all recognised how Donna has been hit the hardest with journeys with the doctor compared to all the other companions. From episode 2 onwards, she hasn’t been able to take a break emotionally, mentally and physically the point you feel such empathy with Donna. Catherine Tate’s performance is better and better every episode till the last. We all love Wilf who also brings a fantastic performance everytime they’re on screen. Martha Jones - there’s more surprises still to come with her and plus others 😉
15:10 Yes! Very slapable face. Reminds me of a song lyric "You act like someone, who has never been, slapped in the F'n face. That's okay, we have a remedy." 🤣 In the end though, kid did something clever with his life, but he had no future but prison after this once UNIT told on him, so yeah, probably more afraid of consequences than death. Another reminder, don't miss Season 4.5 Specials after episode 13, there are 5 specials, not just 1, the show took most of 2009 off but for these few stories.
Oh man I am absolutely living for Syntell's reaction to seeing Rose on the screen - yes, it absolutely was Rose there and your reaction was perfect! I actually had to rewind to watch it again, it was so funny! Another great discussion, as always! I agree with Rekkai that Rattigan taking out the Sontarons doesn't really absolve him of the evil deeds he had set into motion that would have seen the deaths of billions. If anything I feel like his last act was just another action of a petty child; he resented the Sontarons using him and then discarding him, so take them all out served as revenge (even the way he says "ha!" before pushing the button is like him getting the last laugh). I think he also thought death was the easier way out than actually facing up to his failures and then doing the hard work of atoning for his actions. Grateful that his choice resulted in saving the Doctor, but not quite enough to redeem himself in my opinion. Rekkai also makes a good point about Donna being thrown into a lot of tough situations from the get-go. Like, Donna knows the dark side of traveling with the Doctor, when he drowned all the Racnoss's children during the Christmas special, but then to experience it again with Pompeii... it's like the TARDIS is purposefully throwing Donna into the deep end to see if she can handle it. I hadn't noticed that before.
P.S. @Syntell, you'll be coming back to your comments about The Doctor's character *real* soon! Keep watching!!! And boy, will @nupefromdaville remember this "No! You are not going!" convo a year or so from now :)
Loving it loving it loving it. You guys are SO unbelievably wonderful telling it the way it is and how brilliant the Doctor is. Especially with these negative nay sayers in todays season. Thanks just thanks and keep on enjoying this fab season. One love TransmatTrev ❤
There was no need to worry about the chemicals in the lungs being ignited along with the atmosphere. Even if they were present in large enough quantities to be a problem, there wouldn't have been enough oxygen in the lungs for them to mix with so they could ignite.
I usually, and I’m sure I’m not the only one, think of Donna’s mother as pretty overbearing in her hatred of the doctor, but like you said she kinda has a point wherever he is is dangerous XD

This is off topic, but I would like to recommend you put Farscape on your watch list. It does show its age a little, but was made by Jim Hensen company so most of the effects are practical. It’s a really great sci-fi show that is under rated and not reacted to nearly enough. Only one character is human, everyone else is alien, with some being puppets. Just a thought, I think you guys would really enjoy it

"Are you my mummy?" Was actually an adlib by David Tenant since he's a huge Who fan.
Nope, sorry. This fan myth is easily disproven by the fact that the script is available from the official BBC Writers website - and the line is in it.
@@ftde1 I don't know why people perpetuate these obviously made-up stories. Television production doesn't work like that.
The Blonde girl you saw flashing up on the screen IS Rose.
We saw her (in the same outfit) in the 1st episode, Donna told her where the car keys were.
