Wonderful! I like the old paint scheme Metrolink use to have. I'm not a real fan of the recent flowy green ribbon trend that's been plaguing public transport. I often have slight difficulty telling bus companies apart from a distance (Foothill and Omnitrans) because the paint is so similar.
1:48 855. We all know why any footage of that engine is special, but you know what's even more special? Seeing it in it's awesome original livery before it was repainted into that bland, ugly livery it's life ended in. Also, the coach that appears at 4:06 was destroyed in the 2005 Glendale Train Crash.
Good morning to you. No, I'm afraid that's it. That footage was taken during a visit to the US. I seem to recall that the horns sounded similar to the EMD Amtrak locos (Nathan 5-chime) but I'm open to correction on that one.
Incorrect. All the cars Caltrain got from Metrolink were built in 1997, a year after this was filmed. All the original 1992 coaches (except the ones that were wrecked/scrapped) still run for Metrolink to this very day.
There was a big earthquake 2 years after this was filmed, they borrowed cars from go transit because Buildings and Freeways Collapsed and public transportation was needed and metrolink didint have enough cars to accommodate passengers
Even in this time, the K5LAs were secondary. But there were no P2s (except on the F59PHIs). Instead, they had these, beautiful, practically angelic, yet mysterious things known as Ohio Brass 3-Chime Air Whistles. If only you could hear one today.

Thank you very much.
Dang thats cool. Never seen those in real life
RIP 2pac
Are the F59PHs rebuilt from old freight locomotives
10:06 those super liners are still Phase 3
Superliner I cars had them
I rode 856 and 872 today! Really sad that 855 is long gone though.
0:3. Unit 855. One that was destroyed in 2008 Chatsworth incident

Superbaddy4 SCAX 617 was in the Chatsworth wreck but avoided damage...
617 doesn't appear in this video we're commenting on right now. Or at least it isn't one of the identified Cab Cars.
Nice livery alright. Glad to have seen it.
Hi budd
You don't need to greet me every time you see me. It's annoying.
The Red Line. Didn't go to North Hollywood until June 2000
OK, thanks and apologies for the long delay in replying.
It went to Wilshire/Western at the time
Nice Video
Go transit bombardier from Canada 🇨🇦
You are correct sir
Golden era of Metrolink
AMTRAK CALTRANS IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA? WASN'T IT SURFLINER?
It was 4 years before it was named Surfliner. Before, it was named the San Diegan
Now some Bombardier BiLevel cars that were recorded at the time don’t have the purple stripe livery anymore
Do you have more old footages of Metrolink trains back in 1996? I wonder what kind of horns these trains used back at that time.

midlandcompound1000 You mean "K5LA"?
Yes, I think that's it.
They had some three chime whistles too.
They used Ohio Bass whistles from 1992 to 1997 and then started getting K5LA's and P2's in 1998
2:23 WTF! THE METROLINK F59PHI?
yeah what about it
@@StudioSA15 late request imo
Isolated Cab F59's were made before 1998?! When?!
I'm no expert on that I'm afraid. You may get the answer in the Diesel Spotters Guide books authors Pinkepank/Marre if I recall.
The F59PHI started production in 1994.
They started production in 1994 and ended in either the same year or 1995
@A Genesis Engine The first batch was 1994-95, then a 1998 batch for Amtrak, and a final 2001-02 batch.
its nice but that metrolink locomotive is awsome
Thanks, glad you like it. We had a nice time in the USA.
The rolling stock shown here are most likely with caltrain now

That's interesting, thanks.
@@superbaddy4 thx, I didn't get a notification when you replied, thx superbaddy
they use the rotems as crash barriers at each end of the train lol
Why would metrolink have go train from canada
There was a big earthquake 2 years after this was filmed, they borrowed cars from go transit because Buildings and Freeways Collapsed and public transportation was needed and metrolink didint have enough cars to accommodate passengers
The F59PH locomotives that time used K5LAs WHAT?! NOW CHANGED TO P2 ?!! THAT SUCKS K5LAs ARE BETTER !!
The K5LA horns are the Nathan 5 chime horns right? I agree with u they have a more melodious sound.
Even in this time, the K5LAs were secondary. But there were no P2s (except on the F59PHIs). Instead, they had these, beautiful, practically angelic, yet mysterious things known as Ohio Brass 3-Chime Air Whistles. If only you could hear one today.
US Train horns are renowned for their musical quality. In the UK and Ireland the sound is very nondescript, more like that from a bus horn.
Sadly, many of those great horns in the US are fading. You'd be appalled if you went to see Metrolink today.
Yes I've heard that they've become a bit standardised. I always liked the SP and Santa Fe horns.
Amtrak sure looked better in phase 3 back then!
