On corruption in the gems.... I think that the diamonds raising their hand was actually a way to "delete" gems and the reason that they were only corrupted was because pink diamond wasn't part of the blast. When you don't fully delete a file it will be seen as corrupted by the end user.

Yes, because they didn't manage to delete their most basic form, the first one they cycle through, nor their most basic "instincts" (programming) hence why they act like wild animals. They are still feeling, experiencing creatures but without the advanced functions of a complete gem.
this explains what the rejuvenator does in a way, The rejuvenator is "deleting" all memory-history by hitting them but leaving the operating system, this means on some level the memories can be remade by reprogramming them. Their major memories might be directly attached to their OS like a mod, meaning that these mods breach a border between all other memories and the base OS. by recreating these mods, they inadvertently access and refresh all other memory, like using a program to search "blank" areas where files are marked as deleted. Deleted files arent completely gone, they are simply marked "replaceable" making them effectively new space but they arent gone until theyre overwritten. Therefore they still exist as the memories weren't destroyed, just marked null and void. a simple digital note saying "Ignore these files and their content". Also, every gem of the same type have the same OS, save for diamonds who are a sort of framework for all other gems, seeing as their juices create their gems and color indicated content from each diamond and their percentage. All sapphires come out the same until they start forming memories, same for all amethysts all rubies, all of each individual gem type.
In the movie, the Crystal Gems are all "factory reset". Pearl outright has a startup sequence where you input personal preferences and a brief "loading" icon. She says "Welcome to your new Pearl". She really feels like a computer. I think your theory is pretty sound.
Also- I think Pearls are created differently- like they’re not injected like Amethysts, I think only some are “naturally grown”, but most are artificial, so it’s logical that they like, have an entire customization menu before forming, as they are meant to be customizable and they don’t fit just one purpose.
@@Glitch_Shift I think only the elite gems(diamonds for example, obviously) have naturally grown pearls, but gems of lower status have to use what they can get(artificialy made pearls)
BIG NEW EVIDENCE: after pearl gets hit with the rejuvwnator in the movie, and comes back, she sings "system/BOOT.pearl_final.inf" which literally means gems run in a similar way to computers.
I think this is because pearls are intended to be accessories of wealthy gems, so it’d make sense they boot in a robot-y way so they can be customized to the likes of the owner (which is ironic as Pearl is the default clothes, color and hairstyle, probably reinforcing the idea of her being the mere property of pink diamond and nothing more, that’s why she’s been obeying her blindly even after her death)
Pearl took longer to reform because amethyst is a guard it would be inconvenience for guard to take week in case of a bad situation pearl weren't made for. that's what I believe but I think you have good points I'm convinced
Also, pearl has impecable attention to the detail, her consciousness was probably going through all her "settings" and new form's appearence over and over to have it perfect, and perfection takes time.

RS: Wow, that’s a bold request! Have you noticed that they’re all solar-powered robots?" So basically, this whole video is canon. Good job!
I have some things that support this theory. Spoilers btw. 1. Some gems in real life have electric charges. It's called piezoelectricity. This supports that their forms are manipulated by electricity. 2. The gems still follow their "programming", even when they rebel. What I mean by that is the purpose of the gem will always effect the gem, even when the don't serve homeworld anymore. For example, Peridot still likes keeping track of data and statistics (like with her tablet, her tape recorder, camp pining hearts) even though she's not serving homeworld. Or how Pearl still likes to do other people work (like doing all the chores), and is still organized. 3. You can "reboot" a gem with the rejuvenator. Even when you reboot a computer, it still has all its files. You just have to open them. 4. Pink Steven. He is completely robotic in his mannerisms. He's had no need to store data in his gem, because Steven's organic half stores the memories and emotion. Because he has no mental restrictions, he has complete access to all his powers. Pink Steven forms instead of Pink Diamond because Steven's organic half over-writ the data. But it still exists (you can see Steven's gem cycle through Pink Diamond's forms), it's just no longer applicable. Also, when he moves you can kind of hear a (somewhat) metallic sound. Listen closely. 5. Spinel has a special way of manipulating her form. She can stretch and shift without needing to liquefy the light (her form doesn't glow when she shifts). But note this, if she wanted to shift into an object, animal, etc., she couldn't do it like that. Her shifting is limited to changing the shape and size of her current form, not the appearance of it. So I think that her body has dough-like properties. When gems shape shift, they completely liquefy their forms, then solidify it again. But Spinel's form is already loose and shifty (it's like putty, in that it's malleable but not as much as water), she doesn't need to do that.

Corruption is a unfinished version of full destruction. Yellow diamond = The Physical Stability Blue Diamond = The Consciousness Pink Diamond = The Gemstone White Diamond = The Mind The corrupted gems are still able to understand and become tamed. They are still there and due to Steven's healing is stronger, he was able to bring back a bit of Centi's Physical form and their way of communication. However, the damage isn't fully healed.
@@starthelotus3453 The reason I said permanent damage is because Corruption was a permanent thing. Though, I'll update this because its not right. Yellow is Physical Stability, Blue is Consciousness, Pink is Gemstone and White is the Mind.
The Diamonds' light could also be an electromagnetic pulse of some sort, intended to permanently "disable" the gems, but at only 3/4 power (without pink), it scrambled them instead. So corruption could be less malware, and more like forcing a TV off its frequency and to static.
Not really. The corruption is contagious. A case of scrambled software is not. If for example you cut a device off power during reboot, you may risk your data to not be readable for other devices. If that was the case, Jasper couldn't be corrupted. My guess is that The Light was a form of overwriting malware that should cause selfdestruction, but for some reason wasn't able to do so.
think of corruption as some sort of "inner noise" inside a gem's code that is looped constantly, or is "in the background", so any other gem that fuses their light with a corrupted gem, basically means that the "Noise of the corruption song" is played in that gem's code.
Fun Fact: scientists have theorised of using diamonds as a memory storage, this allows for extremely large amounts of data to be stored in something incredibly small and durable.
Well she feels that way, but a computer that's conscious, feeling, and self aware is just as much a person as a lump of fatty tissue(brain) that is concious, feeling, and self aware.
Human bodied gems can still organically reproduce while keeping the gem. The woman still has the egg cells and womb, and the man still has sperm cells. I have no idea how rose and greg made steven, but im pretty sure in human reproduction the female half human 's gem is about as influential as a belly button ring. And i sincerely hope steven can still cum without his gem following the sperm for the safety of steven and connie.
One other thing is how Gems are affected by the destabilizers, which looked like it was harnessing Y. Diamond's powers. When Steven was being hit by the destabilizer or those prison force fields, it was like he had circuits under his skin.
Humans/organics are completely uneffected because the destabilizer rejuvinator and sadness feild doesn't effect humans (though they do color the blood or make it light up so it's similar to a catylist but it's also nontoxic Because it's light

I love this theory, and honestly it feels more like a reality than a theory. It feels like you just figured it out. when we take into consideration everything you said, and the fact that when a gem disruptor is used we see circuitry and the way pink gave Pearl a literal command. It's just all computer lingo. I love this theory, and I also wondered about the sneeple before you said it. Wow. I think I'm going to binge on some Steven Universe today and take notes for further evidence for your hypothesis. You do amazing work, thank you!
anyway, thinking about the artistic intent, these cracks were made in a "electronic aspect" instead of cracks like a cracked glass or a cracked gem because it is meant to imply "something computery is going on boop boop"
@Galew All Blanco, No, its cracks as in the body is breaking apart, remember the first time a Gem was affected by this destabilization effect (Garnet) her form fell apart into pieces at these yellow cracks. The sound you hear when this happens is cracking.
@@fandomguy8025 yeah but the cracks in the shape of circuitry, heck when Steven touches did the stabilization barrier and the gem destabilizer he gets lines all along his body that looks somewhat like circuitry, so when Garnet got destabilized the cracks were some of her bodies circuitry breaking apart (that's what I think anyways)
Now hang on, while I get the analogy between the Damage of the Diamonds, it's less malware and more a command. Each of the Diamonds seems to control a particular aspect of a gem, from Yellow's mastery of the physical form, Blue's mastery of emotion, White's mastery of motor control, and Pink's mastery of cohesion. With the Damage of the Diamonds, Yellow seemed to "corrupt" the physical form of the gems; Blue, their emotions; and White, their ability to control their bodies. It's less of a malware and more the admin (White Diamond) running a script to disable certain features of their gems. This could potentially be evidenced by their ability to be fully restored without *individually* needing to be reset; if the Damage did the same exact *predictable* thing to every gem, it'd be as easy as just undoing that thing to make the gem "whole" again. But hey, that's just an untestable hypothesis. A GAME UNTESTABLE HYPOTHESIS.
Maybe the creators that made White coded a bunch of different beta tests (or lower ranked gems), but never made and tested them, but kept remaking and recoding them until they got White, a perfect AI, and a powerful, smart power source. Once they got Blue and Yellow, they took both of their best qualities and made White, the comforting voice of Blue, but the command of Yellow. When White overthrew these creators, she could’ve stole the coding and started reproducing on a planet that is now “Homeworld.” It’s just an idea. I agree with your theory, and think it holds a lot of evidence!
Well. Lemme explain. At least what i think cuz literally NO CHANNEL has touched on this subject. So we know that gems can shapeshift, just not for long or it could do damage. But Rose/PD did could do it permanently. Idk if this is something only a Diamond could do or maybe when any gem is poofed, they can come back as anything they want and stay in that form permanently. Which is what wouldve happened when Pink faked her own shattering. We can go ahead and assume that gems dont have reproductive organs. I do think they might have something...ya know, dow there. Cuz in one episode like in season 1 or 2 Pearl was talking about how disgusting it was to eat and how weird it was to release liquids after the whole digesting process and Amethyst said i like releasing liquids. Anyway, back to the reproduction. I think that when Rose wanted to have Steven, she purposely poofed herself or asked to be poofed and came back with everything she needed to reproduce with Greg. But thats just my theory.

@@TearsInMySatosuguEyes i found your theory intersting, but I think we forget one thing here: Rose Quartz was able to CREATE organic life with her fluids, she just needed the "seeds". so, I think when she and Greg were...you know, doing stuff, the "seeds" that Greg left with her interacted with her powers and create another human based on the DNA that was there
If the "Sneeple" theory is correct, and White Diamond overthrew her previous "masters," that's bad news. We already knew that WD will be the most powerful diamond, but if she overthrew her creators, she was probably savvy enough to take precautions to make sure that none of hers ever did the same thing. If she made all the other diamonds and gems, she probably programmed a fail safe that can be activated if they ever try to turn on her.
Reading these comments, my mind just combined the two ideas: Gemkind as the technology that some species (whether that's "Sneeple" or something else) invented for the purpose of making cyborgs out of themselves, but at least one of them (White Diamond, or maybe all the diamonds?) managed to become self-aware, rebel against the creators, steal some tech while escaping, and repurpose the stolen tech to create the gem species. If we assume "Sneeple", imagine that this tech, as originally designed and intended to be used, would have projected artificial limbs (plus tools and stuff) for them so that they could more naturally interact with (or conquer?) other alien species out there who weren't limbless snake-like people like themselves. And modern tech of the gem empire like the destabilizer wands could be effective for fighting against cyborg Sneeple, because the wand would disable their artificial limbs and leave just the organic snake body behind. ... Maybe harvesting (as referenced by Peridot that one time) relates to the sentient gems liberating cyborg-gem tech from defeated Sneeple so it can be repurposed and added to the gem empire? (Peridot could have assumed in that moment that as a defeated enemy of the Crystal Gems that they'd want to steal and repurpose her energy to plant a new Crystal Gem.)
I would like to add to this theory two very salient points: the Gem race's similarity to humanity, and the fact that Steven Universe is set in a distinct alternate timeline. The first point can be overlooked because this is a cartoon, but consider how strange it really is that Gems not only resemble human beings, but that they speak English. And that they've apparently been speaking it for millennia! Bismuth often made puns out of her own name which could only work through modern language, and she popped up after thousands of years in stasis. And then there's the prevalence of high-heeled footwear, a nonsensical fashion statement which seems odd in a pragmatic alien society. Then there's the second point. It's highlighted here and there throughout the series that the Gem race has profoundly affected history. Thanks to their presence, Kansas is the entertainment capital of the country and Russia doesn't even exist! Why have the writers bothered to highlight these differences? My theory is that the original Gem (presumably White Diamond) was created by human scientists in a future time, made as some sort of probe sent into space, programmed with various rudiments of our knowledge and culture. It traveled until it fell through a black hole (or something timey-wimey) and was sent into the distant past. There she evolved, gained sapience, and ultimately founded a new race. Their origins would be forgotten, buried under eons of wear and tear and progress, and one day their expansion would guide them back to Earth where their presence created the alternate timeline of Steven Universe.

being upright can have benefits in having longer distance of sight, freed up limbs to use for tools without being a 6 limbed thing, getting height advantage sometimes and in tricking a majority of animals into the belief that you are bigger than you really are . those are useful as tools are used to build things and scaring off animals can free up time to work faster . As for heals she wants to be taller and doesn’t have to do physical labor now does she. 3 feet is half of most big gems
I think I might be convinced they are computers now! This was so organised and the way you showed your evidence made it really easy to understand as well as memorable. I’m assuming you didn’t overlook these, as it’s probably just because we don’t have a lot of information, but Pink is able to bring non-gem species back to life with her tears (and how are gems able to cry tears as well as breathe, speak, and on occasion feel pain like Pearl did when Amethyst bit her arm?). Also, while I still agree with you on all your points, Steven’s mere existence shows that gems can produce children, at least with non-gems- Greg couldn’t have a baby by himself and then have Rose just stick her gem into the fetus’s stomach; Rose shapeshifted a womb but the rest of that still hasn’t been explained by the show. I think Pink somehow manage to create a human egg and let Gregg's swimmers do the rest. This is why we still see Rose pregnant in the video. I believe that when Steven size grow a bit bigger, the parts that was Rose on the inside had to combine with the Diamond. Which is why She could not be around. Changing form into a smaller form does not require a lot of energy. As we can see with Pink turning into Rose. Pink is Bigger than Rose. and Steven is Smaller than Rose. so as Steven was born, She had to reprogram her Diamond to Be human Cells. This may mean Steven is a Half Light Construct of Pink. So as Steven went into Pearl's Pearl. I Believe Pink Is also in her diamond living the experience through Stevens Eyes. What if White Diamond pulls out Pink from Steven, Steven Could die.
What if white diamond pulls out the "code" of pink from inside steven's gems, Imagine it like this: She paralyzes Steven, then put her fingers over steven's gem and penetrate it, then she pushes out with her hands a "hologram" (pink's information/code encoded in light) (kinda like how pearl's hologramselves are kinda individual and not constantly projected from her gemstone), then worse, imagine that she puts that information inside a forming new gem, a diamond, Red Diamond.
Pink seems to be able to emulate living beings, most likely after all the years of studying life on earth she learnt the ability to interact with it, like we see steven heal greg and connie, as well as other gems. if you break organic beings down to their components, they are not unsimilar to very complex machines.
Well, we now know what happens when Steven't gem is removed, and it makes a lot of sense. When removed, the gem continues to function based on the basic gem AI that we've seen and attempts to regain the parts of itself that it lost (Steven's physical form). However, the gem is projecting an image of Steven and definitely retains Steven's memories and personality, hence why it turns on White Diamond. Because the very code that makes up Pink Diamond has changed with Steven and is now different than when it was originally created.
This fan theory sounds awesome. I’d really like to see the origins of Homeworld & how it came to be. Maybe we’ll see something about that in the upcoming seasons?

Lea C. There's an old hindi phrase/proverb: nada rasha, meaning "all is sound", or more fundamentally, all is "vibration". sound and light are both vibration, and share physics-altering frequencies. Sound especially can be very powerfull in altering the physical properties of solid objects, liquids, gasses, etc, and light can effect "digital" and electro-magnetic properties of physical objects, and so on. So its very likely that there's a combination of sound And light that goes into gem tech and the corruption of all these earth gems and what the diamonds did to them
Sound and light are both vibration, is what im saying. And that both effect eachother. Sound is the vibration of particles which can generate heat. And also light, under the right circumstances. One neat thing is collapsing a bubble under deep water pressure. It flashes. Light and sound also both work in harmonics in that they can both have multiple complimenting frequencies layered and meshed together
You can also refract and reflect both light, and sound. Sight and sound are also the most efficiant way to record and send data using a crystaline recepticle. Gems can totes story information. Holographically at that.
I think Steven and Amethyst are supposed to represent sibling love. The reason why they share so much in common, why Steven and Amethyst bond so much, why they don't need a dance to fuse, why they're close, is because they're essentially siblings. Also, even if gems are romantically attracted, they can still fuse with a fusion dance, as seen with Ruby and Sapphire. Also, this doesn't have anything to do with this thread or the video, so yeah.
I had a theory back in the swing of SU that the very first Gems made by Sneople were not Diamonds but instead Pearls. Pearls in real life are made by oysters, an organic life form. Pearls in SU are easy to reprogram and are servile. I'd theorize that somewhere along the line, Pearls made White Diamond with hopes to better help their organic creators, but eventually White Diamond's "help" somehow made their organic creators go extinct, perhaps violently but some AI stories go in a way that the AI is so good that humans just stop reproducing, causing their own extinction. Eventually the Gem species would flourish from there.
The AI idea is not outrageous at all. I really like the folder analogy. The corruption ideas here seem spot-on, and the mention of 'glitches' sounds exactly what it looked like was happening in the episode. It would be interesting to analyze the repercussions of Fusion in this context. A form of WiFi networking, sort of like Blue's Aura? Definitely computer programs and hardware working together to increase their power. As for why the gems pop fully formed from the ground, they're likely based on the physical appearances of certain ones of their creators. That's my theory at least, but then, I also believe that species is parthenogenetic (explaining why gems except for Steven all present as women).
I personally don't like the theory that White Diamond was created by some ancient alien civilization. Instead, I like the idea of her existence was caused by the power of probability. Through the unexpectedly right circumstances, she was born into the universe. But, I feel like she wouldn't have the same look, then and now. When she was created, she would've been a small, disfigured entity with no idea what she was or what to do. Through hundreds, or even thousands of millions of years, she made improvements to herself, and created her own civilization. White Diamond has always given me this feeling that she was a supreme being, like a deity. I think it would be more fitting if she just popped into the universe.

I edited my comment to make it better: To me, I think of gems as being normal gemstones infused with a kind of life force (which is why they suck life out of everything around them when they are being formed) a lot like quintessence in Voltron; it can be used to power things, like the lions and other machines, but it is also life itself, and has been used to make people live longer. In SU, it's also harvested from life like in Voltron. So since gems have so much "quintessence," I would still call them "alive." They're like artificial life, but still life. Not quite machines, although the computer analogy was good. I'd also like to point out that, in Voltron, quintessence is seen as bright light of different colors (raw quintessence is yellow or white, while quintessence refined by the Druids of the Galra Empire is violet, according to the Fandom Wiki). Considering a gem's physical form is made of solid light, I think this further supports my point. I could also go so far as to say that if it is like Voltron quintessence, then maybe there is a sort of quintessence plane like the one in Voltron. We might've actually already seen part of this plane, when we went inside Pearl's gem in A Single Pale Rose. If this is the case, the plot could go in a similar route as Voltron: The Galra (gems) are low on quintessence resources which is why they conquer planets (it's been said that the gems can't make gems like they used to, and are low on resources), so to solve that problem, they go to the quintessence plane rather than continue destroying life.

Just be careful not to forget that humans are basically just walking computers made of meat. The gems being inorganic or robotic or even created by others does not mean they are not alive. The definition of life does not care about origins or materials.
I think that we can’t rule out the idea that gems are simply a homeworld species. Yes, they may have been made by sneeple (I totally subscribe to that theory), but them being computers makes no sense when it comes to their abilities to interact with the organic life. • How would Rose have the ability to resurrect Lion? It’s arguable that Steven would be able to resurrect Lars, since there’s human DNA there, but Rose shouldn’t be able to save an organic creature. • How would gems be able to cry, and why would they be programmed with crying? It makes no sense for that to be apart of their code, it’s resources being used for something that the diamonds would surely view as unnecessary. We’ve seen that Peridot lacks a lot of the “fluffy” abilities of era 1 gems, like shapeshifting and weapon summoning, but she can still cry. That energy could surely be put to better use by, say, making her physical form a bit taller. • Why would fighter gems be programmed with a full spectrum of emotion? It would make a lot more sense to take that energy and processing power and shift it over to fighting ability. The only emotion they really need is anger. • If the corruption blast was a song, Rose should’ve put up her bubble and not her shield. It leaves them vulnerable to the sound. • Why does Connie have a totem in the aura plane? She shouldn’t be programmed into the gem aura plane, since she’s a human. I don’t think the gem species is meant to be fully dissected and put into our society’s terms and ideas. Rebecca has tried very, very hard to make them seem alien in tech, personality, appearance, and sound.
1: Rose somehow made an egg, which evolved into steven inside her artificial womb. Rose seems like a gem with a very deep knowledge of biology. 2: Expression conveys information, and that is a form of communication, which is absolutely necessary for any sort of species. Furthermore, emotions are not useless, they play a BIG PART in survival and accelerated evolution. Crying for a gem is an emotional expression. 3: Because, did you ever experience extreme anger or desire of vengeance, or any sort of passion? emotions are a tool to modulate the output work of a sentient being, it is able to force a quicker rate of "evolution" or response to different situations, and bc emotion is intuitive (not purely conscious, and more complex than conscious thought) its *even better having a fighter that feels rather than think*. 4: What if the sound is transmited through the light? Light is a wave, sound is a wave, heck, wifi signal is light, we just cant see it. 5: Because steven is part human, and just like a hybrid device, he has the "protocols" (organic brain and inorganic gem) the communicate and interface with both species. The aura plane isnt a *different dimension or plane* or anything like that, its just a representation.
Galew All Blanco While I agree that an emotional spectrum would be necessary for expansion, I doubt that gems would agree with it. Why would a Pearl be given emotion, separated from their owner? If the gems were AI, Pearls should be the equivalent of a chatbot AI. We’ve seen that that’s how they’re expected to function, with our Pearl the most, even to the dismay of Pink Diamond. But they don’t function like that at all. They have their own reactions, emotions, and ideas from their owners. The fact that there’s two off color Pearls we know of proves this (our Pearl, and the Pearl who’s apart of Rhodonite). Why would a Topaz be given the capacity to become emotionally attached to her peer? We’ve seen that the diamonds have no hangups about shattering, especially when a gem displays romantic attraction. Aquamarine confirmed that even same-gem relationships aren’t supposed to exist. Why would a gem be programmed with romantic attraction? That’s a very... big emotion to say the least.

My theory is that gems were created to be servants that could be used and basically any sort of situation, including romantic situations, that's why they have so many vast abilities and emotions and feelings because they were made specifically so that they could do all of this stuff if that's what they were deemed necessary to do based on who owned them and what they wanted their gem servant to do
@@toetotipthatsabart5048 Well, they were probably programmed in the image of their creators. The creators made an AI that functioned like they do, just like us humans are trying to do. White Diamond may not have seen a need to remove that part of programming. Quite often you can't just remove a piece of code because different pieces of code are usually dependent on each other to function. Gems may simply not work without their emotional functions.
This makes me want another movie, that has the creators of the diamonds return, for revenge, or if white diamond was made for leadership and concurring but then Steven has changed that, and gems no longer Concur, and the creators will not be happy, and the comeback rather to rejuvenate all or shatter all, and start a new gem empire. A threat that was worse than the Diamond's, a threat that began this entire journey, the ones that made Steven suffer, that would be an awesome movie or show.
It reminds me of the AIs in "The Tragedy of Fortuna" webcomic. They used to be some sort of free-roaming computer programs with godly powers, the deities of their world, but were forcefully crampled into computer cores and then put into robot bodies. They also could fuse and couldn't die unless one breaks their cores - just like gems can't die unless one shatters their gems. There's also a thing similar to corruption in the Fortuna universe, a clockwork virus - although its nature is much more complex: it's both an actual virus that infects robots and organics alike and turns them into disgusting mindless abominations of themselves, and a *computer* virus that destroys character files - all events of the Fortuna story unfold inside of a video game. I guess Fortuna's author took some inspiration from Steven Universe.
after that mind blow i think WD's powers are about writing and editing the inner "code" on the gems (like DNA or software), YD's power are about the "hardware" like the light form it will take, in the corruption we see that WD corrupted a part of the inner code and YD apears to affect another part that's the form the gems willingly decide to use, in this case she corrupted them into this forced form they have to take ir reproduce, where we get to BD, i think her powers affect what are the emotions and intellegence of a gem, into turning them savage and in constant pain; and if you think on the logo of the Diamond ∆uthority you'll see they're opposites to each other, Blue being chill and sentimental with Yellow being apathic and easy to angry yet they're side to side, they compliment each other in some way, and then there's White, she's emotionless, narcisist and has the caracteristics of a psicopath from what we saw in LFHTH, while PD is the *complete* opposite, the real non-braty PD (Sugar said we'll know more about this part of her behavior) is more feeling, careing and she's about breaking the sistem, the cold, rigid sistem 'forcing progress WD implemented, and as i said before they must complement each other at some way, and what is with her powers? if WD is the "hacker" and "writer of code" PD must the technician that fix everything, that "anti-virus" (because at this point i can only think of the gems as the higher level of A.I.) that is about protecting the true nature of the code and the personality of a gem, and if you combine the failure of the four of them it will completely crack (literally) the sistem to the point is unfixable (and we know Rose aka PD couldn't even fixe a shattered gem, just a craked one). WD considerated the four of them as the only really important thing on a gem, supposing there were other diamonds being seccondary to WD thought, and that's why WD showed interest not love on PD, probably making her feel important, another side of "rebelious", braty people, but since PD stayed at YD and BD care, they didn't showed her care, while she espected to be treated highly from them both, they get her down to reality and with her colony she learnt humbleness and care for others, though she dumb af, she showed her good, real side (i just made a milkshake from two theories i had in mind and this video helped me a ton to get things right, si thank you ❤) also while WD-PD and YD-BD are opposites WD-YD and PD-BD are atracted (metaforically) to each other like WD-YD being positive and BD-PD being negative, more like the unperfect in the perfection is what makes it perfect
Great. Now I have fallen in love with this IP again because of how good your theories are. I just today found your channel. Back before Future aired, I was so hugely into Steven Universe that I'd even spent hundreds on commissions, fan art, and even creating my own gem. The heavy lore of the show was what kept me in the fandom since the first season came out. There was so much potential, and that kept me thinking about it and crafting my own theories, stories, and headcanons. Future killed the show for me. A huge part of that was because I didn't like the way they told the story I think they were trying to tell, but also because I knew that the IP was never going to actually expound on the lore of the world that had been created over the years. If you had been the one writing the show or if you had been on the production team, I am certain that you would have brought the show to the heights we all thought it was going to reach. This has me reflecting on my love for the concept despite my dislike of many of the actual canon events in the show. The Steven Universe community and the theories and art that came out of it are amazing. The creativity and storytelling and world-building ability of the members of the community are still worth digging deep into even if the show is over and tremendous potential was lost. Your theory videos alone have me wanting to dive back into that community. I so badly wish I could see the show that would have been if your theories had been used in the canon of the show. They are my headcanons now.
Add-on to this theory: you said that pearl was silenced by pink as some sort of computer command. While that may be true, yellow ordered peridot many times while she was on the diamond line. Peridot refuses.. maybe this is because steven/pink kind of manipulated peridot into saving the earth. Maybe this could be stevens diamond powers. Another thing to add on, whenever steven needs to convince gems to act a different way, they often do. Maybe this is because pf stevens diamond command powers? Like ruby and sapph in the heart of the crystal gems arc. Maybe the gem’s powers are connected to this. YellowD has electrical powers that can poof gems. Maybe those are overloading the machinery in their gems, causing them to restart/shut down BlueD’s court has water/ice powers. Maybe this is an extension of their freezing and thawing of their physical forms. Last thing, you know how gems can make flashlights using their gems (like pearl, ruby, garnet, and peridot) maybe thats a concentrated beam of light using the resources they have.
I don't know if I would call it artificial intelligence since they learn and, reproduce and have emotional reactions to there environment, though they are born with knowing what to do. But then again some animals here on Earth are born with a natural instinct in what to do when born. I can will out doubt say they are living brings because they reproduce, react to environment, have a need to survive and have a complex social structure. Gem production seems sort of like how ants reproduce, we just got to figure out what is in those injectors and where did that stuff come from. It's easy to assume someone also created them but who's to say they didn't turn them selves into the diamonds and perfected gem production. Or that each gem is a modified clone of the diamonds they serve. There just not enough info to come up with a single unified theory and be its so much fun to think about.
Adding to this, I always thought that when the gems sing or fuse, a certain type of music is released from their gem. It’s why it usually comes out of nowhere. Steven in the first couple seasons uses instruments when singing, especially with Connie. When Connie sings with Pearl, we hear Pearl’s piano. As Steven gets older, he starts using less instruments to sing and sings to the tune from his gem.
I love to watch this Steven Universe theory channels, since I get to look at the show through the perspective of these theorists. Same with the Roundtable, Cartoon Universe, and even MatPat ( not for Steven Universe though). Usually most people just watch, and enjoy the show. But when you see these theorists looking through each episode, piecing together the story, it's so cool to see. This video really blew me away, especially the part about the music!
I have not finished watching yet, but you seem to have corruption and encryption mixed up--they are completely different and cannot be used interchangeably. File corruption is where part of the file is deleted or overwritten leading to the remaining parts being incomplete and visually messed up but not necessarily unreadable, and it is almost always impossible to reverse. As humans are made from biological code, it also has an identical biological counterpart called mutation, which can cause dramatic changes to a person or animal's appearance and biology. File encryption, on the other hand, is where a procedure is run to change the data to be completely unreadable unless you know how to reverse it--think like rot13 or other common "codes" for sending secret messages. Encryption cannot be run on a living being while still leaving the being able to function, and this should apply to Gems too--an "encrypted" gem would not even have a base form , as that would be made unreadable by the encryption as well. In fact, an encrypted gem would be the closest to dead a gem could ever be.
An encrypted file isnt special, its just a bunch of random data really, and it derived from another form. Corruption is a distortion of some original data. Encryption is just useful corruption, and not truly random, but made to look like so.
I completely agree with everything you’re saying, and now that you’ve said it, the way you’re talking about them makes it seem like they’re somewhat like the drones that the characters of SGU (Stargate Universe) had to fight with with in season 2, ancient robots created by a long dead civilization

Its kind of funny how I always saw massive similarities between Gems and Cybertronians. The main difference being that the bodies of Cybertronians are constructed of living metal, instead of hard and liquid light, held within a force field, like a ST hologram, or flexibly, within a certain maximum range vs minimal stable density limit. It is also worthwhile mentioning that Cybertronians, depending on the universe canon, can also scan and reshape themselves within certain parameters such as size and mass, at will. Although in some continuities, transformers are made with their two modes, and changing their alt mode requires literal time in the shop to do so. But Primus, the creator 'god' of the Cybertronians, or perhaps Vector Sigma, could be seen as analogous to White Diamond, and the other diamonds, and the spark core of a Cybertronian, is relatively analogous to the gem core of a Gem. Furthermore, Fusion could arguably be seen as analogous to a Combiner bot, which, in its combined mode, usually seems to have a completely new and distinct personality (usually.. I know I know.. looking at you Bee-Team combiners). Anyway, maybe some crossover potential in this sense.

I think Yellow and Blue were looking for more a reformat/frying with the corruption, but White put the malware in there. The remote control has actually been a feature in many versions of Windows legally. This might be an interesting detail, but CPU creation is very much like gem creation. You most likely will get the thing you want, but there are still oddities and duds. The number of cores you get can be random. Plus, CPU seems like the most likely thing the gemstone stands for in our computers.
It looks like gems are some sort of von Neumann probe. Maybe the original species made WD, sent her to space to conquer planets for them, but then they went extinct for some reason, but because of her programming, she just continued making more gems and expanding her empire. Or she just killed them off, who knows how they treated her.
Or the white diamond can control the other gems because it represents white light and the white light derives the other colors, with the gems themselves being a part of the white diamond and the white diamond itself being a part of the gems and the white color can disappear with the other colors, that's why controlled gems turn grayish white.
And as gems represent their physical forms through energy, they are attracted to music not because of the lyrics or melody, but because of the vibrations that the sound makes. The representation of music in the world of Steven Universe is yet another manifestation of the vibrations of the gems and human beings only enter into the mix by table.
Hey so i was thinking how about the corruption is a result of a EMP Blast (if you don't know what a emp blast is it stands for Eletro-Magnetic-Pulse) Which is a hard drive (HDD) Uses magnets to Read and Write data to it and if a sudden pulse or black of magnet will Corrupt or completely Destroy any data on (As bits or 1's and 0's) it so I think this may be the cause because we can see yellow D has a form of emp that can poof a gem and fix the form of centi but i think it goes down like this: Yellow = Form Corruption/ Blue = Memory Damage (as we can see when centi first got slightly fixed by steven she had no memory's of him)/ White = Idk maby Blue and Yellow weren't strong enough to blast from homeworld to earth so maby White was there to either ack like a AMP (Amplifier) So that they can make sure that all gems were "Broken" So that the rebellion was gone for good But like i said Idk maby yes maby no it could be a song or a flash Idk hope this theory Is correct
Pink Diamond wasn't _that_ much bigger than Rose... especially if you keep Rose's rather voluminous stature in mind, I'd say the amount of volume would be about the same.
I love the idea that White Diamond is the core of a dead star, a totally different type of being from the gems she created-- some enormously powerful and malicious organic being that made AI in her image. I think your idea that she was made to be a planet-powering AI is much more likely though. :) But I really like the idea that she couldn't be poofed, her form is solid and real, and her head glows all the time because she radiates energy, and that's why Pearl says she isn't like anyone else, not even the other Diamonds.
I've been pondering the AI idea back in Steven the Sword Fighter, when the dissolution of Pearl's projection seemed to free up enough run-time for her to finish rebooting her main program. By the time we actually saw homeworld and the last few episodes of the series, I couldn't imagine any other interpretation. Even the walls and artwork seem to be sentient programs.
I always thought the gems are made of nanobots that are all conducted by the CPU; the gem. This allows the bots to be synchronised with each other, and be able to change shape, also take huge amounts of damage. It might also explain why bubbled gems can't reform (nanobots can't get to the gem), and why when they shape-shifting they have the same colours (gems only have nanobots of certain colors)
I think the idea they are robots makes a lot more sense because since the concept of a mechanical man their has been a common theme of the robots revolting yet they do not have a plan after replacing humans similar to how the diamonds want to create more gems to then invade planets and create more gems but seems to not have plans after they turn all reachable planets into kindergarten which makes me think that although they say they are full of purpose and are created to serve a purpose in reality they have no purpose similar to a robot so in the end Rose Quartz which is commonly shown to be selfish, manipulative, and obsessive particularly with humans she has a point with the only way the Gem race which I find similar to a robot trying to find a use outside of humanity. Also I always saw White diamond as a mother and the other diamonds her children so she saw what pink diamond did was just her children playing in the playground

I can only assume that the system work from lowest on the branch to highest pearls being servants to high ranking gems like hessonite or emerald, and white diamond being the highest up, and then the quartz soldiers who are under high ranking gems like morganite, and holly blue . Of course these gems report back to their corresponding diamond XP but that's just how I see it

Deasia Mungin that was earlier in the show when they focused more on "magical" explanations than the sci-fi vibe the show has now. Imo early to mid season 1 should all be taken with a pinch of salt, especially when it comes to theories.

1:15 I always thought that since I started watching the show (at around Sardonyx's arc), as it would make sense of many quirks of their "biology" and psychology, nevermind the social structure. Their Gems would act as their CPU, RAM and ROM. They would come preconfigured with roles and programming, that then evolves organically as they function. Their general tendency to stay the same for millenia unless acted on by organics could be explained as their substrate (in this case the very hard-to-reshape crystal) being very energy-intensive to reprogram, thus not really changing unless circumstance forced them to (like finding a new category of life, or having 1/4th of the top leadership replaced by a half-organic). It would also explain their reliance on sunlight as their only form of sustenance and the whole regeneration business, as it's an eminently practical way of running AI on multiple environments. That begs the question of who made the DIamonds (or White, if the at the time unreleased CYM had White be truthful when saying she split off the diamonds off of herself) and where they went, but that's a Riddle For The Ages. And this was actually very vindicated by the Movie, who portrayed Pearl like a consumer gynoid (which was absolutely terrifying btw) in how she was customizable at first, with the name of the song playing being a literal filepath to the main bootstrapping file on her gem. So, yeah, I felt pretty confident going into the video. 2:38 This was hinted all the way back when Peridot and Pearl fought for the Barn Leadership position, where Peridot claimed that Pearls were made to "hold your stuff". As we did not see them be particularly strong, and we had seen Pearl keep 3 artifacts in her gem, it was theorized that Pearls posessed a pocket dimension on their Gems to carry stuff with. This is relevant because no other gems were shown to keep any non-light objects inside their gems, even when it would be advantageous to do so (like with Topaz) 4:07 This also happens with fetuses. On the early weeks we pas through musltiple bodyplans that reflect our ancestry before we settle on our humanoid one. Also the base form thing was very well explored in material about corrupted gems and woth Amethyst's design 5:55 Retroactively they also malfunction in a very similar way to induction heads in neural networks. You can force stimuly on parts of the code of a neural network and the whole thing will adpat and trigger unused subsystems to continue functioning at lower capacity. This also reflects how the brain can redistribute functionality should half of it be missing at an early age. 7:18 I always thought of it as a very specific way of running an electiomagnet on an old computer (with very animalistic themes most of the time), only with light, as the crystal circuits apppear to be light-based and require nutrients to be built and sunlight to function. The modularity that Fusion displays also contributes to this theory. 8:06 it's a good point, but I also find peculiar how each one can fix only a part of said damage, as if they are reconstructing the Gem manually instead of merely unlocking or rollbacking them. And if White isn't there to make it permanent, the corruption resumes, which may hint at it being another variant, like cascading neural failure or something. 9:39 Not evidence but many fanfics (like The World is your Oyster(...) and Faded Blue) have been running with this for years, and I fully support it. Also handily justifies why most Gem tech is pressurized, as air is a very light way for making Sound travel (why it's oxygen is less clear XD) 11:12 This was confirmed by Peridot while drilling down 12:35 Very true all around. In fact, this also explains why Peridot and other Era 2 gems are unable to shapeshift, but are able to reform with different outfits and distributions (as seen in the then unreleased episode CYM). The lack of resources didn't mean they were unable to shift, but unable to do so _in real time_ due to some form of hardware limitation (wether it's the ability to perform the calculations and gem-alterations needed to shift IRT in addition to when booting, or a more rudimentary projection circuitry that requires suspension of cognitive routines to perform modifications). That would explain may peculiarities with how Peridot works. 14:17 Of course, two of those were presumably corrupted somehow, given that they were not performing their functions correctly. THis also plays into how some Gems are treated as furniture on Homeworld, disturbing as it is. 16:56 While that part of the theory was disproven, there was talk of White being a signal nexus for Gems, given that she instantly recognized Steven as Pink and then proceeded to accurately describe how the Gems were at the beginning of the series while Bleaching them (CYM), and commenting on Steven's Inner Turmoils with great detail, much more than anything Steven mentioned out loud in her presence. 18:06 Hit the nail on the head. "Voleyball" also completely lacks memories of the event, which is consitent with instances of botnetting and hijacking. 19:13 That isn't the only explanation. We don't know how much his organic body modifies his abilities (we do know that his body is reliant on the structural support of his gem and his healing abilities to fight off injury and prevent major organ failure), but what we DO know is that Pink Diamond's domain included advanced biomancy, from healing, to plant hybridization (Watermelons, Moss, Shrubbery), to full on ressurrection/hybridization (Lion/Lars and their pocket dimensions) and much more. It stands to reason that her version of the diamond powers interact with neurological tissue, as it must to bring living beings back to life/immortality 20:39 As well from Solar Power, as confirmed by the Crew, as no mineral could possibly sustain constructs of that magnitude for 6000 years 23:35 OUTSTANDING! This is indeed the best compilation I could find on the theory, and despite my caveats above I am very happy with what you did. I'm gonna save this for use in any arguments I need.
About the corruption thing. I think the Diamonds are the Administrators on the Gems so they can change protected files such as the A.I (Accounts) engine(OS) they are running on. So I think that corruption is just Encryption so when the engine tries to run the A.I it loads garbage data and that happens making them revert into animals that were on homeworld before the you know. So the Diamonds have the decryption key so they're the only ones that can revert it but some data may be corrupted while the process is happening that the key for those data is different thus giving them corruption marks. A simplified version of this is just when the Diamonds Encrypt(Corrupt) Gems they use a random number and letter combination as a base to the randomization and when they try to decrypt(Decorruption) the Gems the code would change some of the code's keys cause the diamond's attempt at fixing them or decorrupting them used a corrupted key or a different one than the correct one thus giving them marks. This is so long IDK if this is even a good theory.
You stated that White Diamond was programmed to always be pleasant to "Avoid treating others rudely". But she literally had to be taught to say "please" and "thank you", AND not call other gems "lower lifeforms", I don't think being pleasant helped too much. Great theory though, I love this take on the gems!
Now I'm more certain than ever that the gem species are an ai or advanced life-form. I had thoughts in the past that they were such things, but didn't look further into it. I'm also confident that SOMEONE or SOMETHING produced the first Diamond or Gem. If I used any creative interpretation, I wanna say that it WAS Snake People. Ronaldo has basically been an oracle SPEWING facts important to the plot. It wouldn't be surprising if Snake People DID in fact exist and conceive the gem species. I like to think it came from a similar story like Metroid. The Chozo propogated Metroids which were supposed to eradicate the X Parasites. In a similar way, I believe SOME HIGHLY ADVANCED CIVILIZATION OF INTELLIGENT, SERPENTINE LIFE CREATED THE GEM SPECIES. What for, I couldn't say. It could have been an experiment, a way to make a system that would benefit their own society, or some other unknown motive.
i think how long a gem takes to reform has more to do with the gem's physical properties, i.e. what the gem is made for. We know quartz gems are made to be effectively grunt soldiers. It's useful in a battle for soldiers to be able to reform quickly before anyone gets a chance to shatter them. Pearls aren't traditionally likely to be in any kind of physical altercation and they're seen as an accessory, so from that perspective it would make sense for a pearl to take a long time to reform and think hard about their own reformation. Personality is certainly a factor though. Amethyst shows gems can reform before they're even "ready" to reform and Pearl deliberately thinks very hard about her appearance before reforming.

I’ve heard the theory about white creating the other diamonds out of her emotions, but what you said about the stars is something I haven’t heard before. I like it. They say those phrases just as we say “oh my god,” to them, the stars might be their creator
I think each diamond has power over a part of what makes a gem. When the diamonds blasted the surface of earth, their objective was to obliterate every gem on its surface, but they only managed to mess up part of the entirety of what makes a gem, and that’s why instead of total annihilation, the “virus” could only partially corrupt gems, because Pink Diamond wasn’t adding her power to the attack.
They state several times, the gems are PROJECTIONS... This literally means they are holograms with mass pretty much, light becoming solidified into a form. It doesn't mean they are computers but they are computer like in the way they behave, they are their OWN unique species. Steven is Also his own unique species because he isn't human but he isn't Gem either, which can get pretty confusing. So would that make Steven a Computer...? No, but people are right to compare the two though. because whenever gems are damaged or cracked, the phase in and out of existence almost like a corrupted file on a computer, or a glitchy model in a video game, we've seen this before. I don't think they are computers becuase well, they are gems! Also they are able to think for themselves, garnet especially, so this means that they have free will, which end the similarities between computers.
i don’t like the idea that they are just computers. it takes away a lot of the mystery and it’s also been stated that gems are simply just regular old gemstones until they suck the life out of the earth. whilst i do like the comparisons between them as it truly shows that they aren’t people and they don’t think like people, they are there own species. the only thing left to find out is who made white diamond (sneeple?)
Well, humans are computers. They're just no electronic. Trees are also computers, but not only they are *not electronic* but their inputs and output isnt obvious nor intuitive, and also not numeric. The universe is a huge million times more in-depth conwell's game of life. Simple fundamental rules together form more combination of rules and aspects.

On corruption in the gems.... I think that the diamonds raising their hand was actually a way to "delete" gems and the reason that they were only corrupted was because pink diamond wasn't part of the blast.

this explains what the rejuvenator does in a way, The rejuvenator is "deleting" all memory-history by hitting them but leaving the operating system, this means on some level the memories can be remade by reprogramming them. Their major memories might be directly attached to their OS like a mod, meaning that these mods breach a border between all other memories and the base OS. by recreating these mods, they inadvertently access and refresh all other memory, like using a program to search "blank" areas where files are marked as deleted. Deleted files arent completely gone, they are simply marked "replaceable" making them effectively new space but they arent gone until theyre overwritten. Therefore they still exist as the memories weren't destroyed, just marked null and void. a simple digital note saying "Ignore these files and their content". Also, every gem of the same type have the same OS, save for diamonds who are a sort of framework for all other gems, seeing as their juices create their gems and color indicated content from each diamond and their percentage. All sapphires come out the same until they start forming memories, same for all amethysts all rubies, all of each individual gem type.

I have some things that support this theory. Spoilers btw.
1. Some gems in real life have electric charges. It's called piezoelectricity. This supports that their forms are manipulated by electricity.
2. The gems still follow their "programming", even when they rebel. What I mean by that is the purpose of the gem will always effect the gem, even when the don't serve homeworld anymore. For example, Peridot still likes keeping track of data and statistics (like with her tablet, her tape recorder, camp pining hearts) even though she's not serving homeworld. Or how Pearl still likes to do other people work (like doing all the chores), and is still organized.
3. You can "reboot" a gem with the rejuvenator. Even when you reboot a computer, it still has all its files. You just have to open them.
4. Pink Steven. He is completely robotic in his mannerisms. He's had no need to store data in his gem, because Steven's organic half stores the memories and emotion. Because he has no mental restrictions, he has complete access to all his powers. Pink Steven forms instead of Pink Diamond because Steven's organic half over-writ the data. But it still exists (you can see Steven's gem cycle through Pink Diamond's forms), it's just no longer applicable. Also, when he moves you can kind of hear a (somewhat) metallic sound. Listen closely.
5. Spinel has a special way of manipulating her form. She can stretch and shift without needing to liquefy the light (her form doesn't glow when she shifts). But note this, if she wanted to shift into an object, animal, etc., she couldn't do it like that. Her shifting is limited to changing the shape and size of her current form, not the appearance of it. So I think that her body has dough-like properties. When gems shape shift, they completely liquefy their forms, then solidify it again. But Spinel's form is already loose and shifty (it's like putty, in that it's malleable but not as much as water), she doesn't need to do that.

Blue Diamond = The Consciousness
Pink Diamond = The Gemstone
White Diamond = The Mind
The corrupted gems are still able to understand and become tamed. They are still there and due to Steven's healing is stronger, he was able to bring back a bit of Centi's Physical form and their way of communication. However, the damage isn't fully healed.

The Diamonds' light could also be an electromagnetic pulse of some sort, intended to permanently "disable" the gems, but at only 3/4 power (without pink), it scrambled them instead. So corruption could be less malware, and more like forcing a TV off its frequency and to static.

Not really. The corruption is contagious. A case of scrambled software is not. If for example you cut a device off power during reboot, you may risk your data to not be readable for other devices. If that was the case, Jasper couldn't be corrupted. My guess is that The Light was a form of overwriting malware that should cause selfdestruction, but for some reason wasn't able to do so.

Now hang on, while I get the analogy between the Damage of the Diamonds, it's less malware and more a command. Each of the Diamonds seems to control a particular aspect of a gem, from Yellow's mastery of the physical form, Blue's mastery of emotion, White's mastery of motor control, and Pink's mastery of cohesion.
With the Damage of the Diamonds, Yellow seemed to "corrupt" the physical form of the gems; Blue, their emotions; and White, their ability to control their bodies. It's less of a malware and more the admin (White Diamond) running a script to disable certain features of their gems.
This could potentially be evidenced by their ability to be fully restored without *individually* needing to be reset; if the Damage did the same exact *predictable* thing to every gem, it'd be as easy as just undoing that thing to make the gem "whole" again.
But hey, that's just an untestable hypothesis. A GAME UNTESTABLE HYPOTHESIS.
Maybe the creators that made White coded a bunch of different beta tests (or lower ranked gems), but never made and tested them, but kept remaking and recoding them until they got White, a perfect AI, and a powerful, smart power source. Once they got Blue and Yellow, they took both of their best qualities and made White, the comforting voice of Blue, but the command of Yellow. When White overthrew these creators, she could’ve stole the coding and started reproducing on a planet that is now “Homeworld.”

Well. Lemme explain. At least what i think cuz literally NO CHANNEL has touched on this subject. So we know that gems can shapeshift, just not for long or it could do damage. But Rose/PD did could do it permanently. Idk if this is something only a Diamond could do or maybe when any gem is poofed, they can come back as anything they want and stay in that form permanently. Which is what wouldve happened when Pink faked her own shattering. We can go ahead and assume that gems dont have reproductive organs. I do think they might have something...ya know, dow there. Cuz in one episode like in season 1 or 2 Pearl was talking about how disgusting it was to eat and how weird it was to release liquids after the whole digesting process and Amethyst said i like releasing liquids. Anyway, back to the reproduction. I think that when Rose wanted to have Steven, she purposely poofed herself or asked to be poofed and came back with everything she needed to reproduce with Greg. If the "Sneeple" theory is correct, and White Diamond overthrew her previous "masters," that's bad news. We already knew that WD will be the most powerful diamond, but if she overthrew her creators, she was probably savvy enough to take precautions to make sure that none of hers ever did the same thing. If she made all the other diamonds and gems, she probably programmed a fail safe that can be activated if they ever try to turn on her.

Reading these comments, my mind just combined the two ideas: Gemkind as the technology that some species (whether that's "Sneeple" or something else) invented for the purpose of making cyborgs out of themselves, but at least one of them (White Diamond, or maybe all the diamonds?) managed to become self-aware, rebel against the creators, steal some tech while escaping, and repurpose the stolen tech to create the gem species. If we assume "Sneeple", imagine that this tech, as originally designed and intended to be used, would have projected artificial limbs (plus tools and stuff) for them so that they could more naturally interact with (or conquer?) other alien species out there who weren't limbless snake-like people like themselves. And modern tech of the gem empire like the destabilizer wands could be effective for fighting against cyborg Sneeple, because the wand would disable their artificial limbs and leave just the organic snake body behind.

Maybe harvesting (as referenced by Peridot that one time) relates to the sentient gems liberating cyborg-gem tech from defeated Sneeple so it can be repurposed and added to the gem empire? (Peridot could have assumed in that moment that as a defeated enemy of the Crystal Gems that they'd want to steal and repurpose her energy to plant a new Crystal Gem.)

I would like to add to this theory two very salient points: the Gem race's similarity to humanity, and the fact that Steven Universe is set in a distinct alternate timeline.
The first point can be overlooked because this is a cartoon, but consider how strange it really is that Gems not only resemble human beings, but that they speak English. And that they've apparently been speaking it for millennia! Bismuth often made puns out of her own name which could only work through modern language, and she popped up after thousands of years in stasis. And then there's the prevalence of high-heeled footwear, a nonsensical fashion statement which seems odd in a pragmatic alien society.
Then there's the second point. It's highlighted here and there throughout the series that the Gem race has profoundly affected history. Thanks to their presence, Kansas is the entertainment capital of the country and Russia doesn't even exist! Why have the writers bothered to highlight these differences?
My theory is that the original Gem (presumably White Diamond) was created by human scientists in a future time, made as some sort of probe sent into space, programmed with various rudiments of our knowledge and culture. It traveled until it fell through a black hole (or something timey-wimey) and was sent into the distant past. There she evolved, gained sapience, and ultimately founded a new race. Their origins would be forgotten, buried under eons of wear and tear and progress, and one day their expansion would guide them back to Earth where their presence created the alternate timeline of Steven Universe.
I mean we have seen the Homeworld ships doing faster than light stuff so maybe that's possible

Also, while I still agree with you on all your points, Steven’s mere existence shows that gems can produce children, at least with non-gems- Greg couldn’t have a baby by himself and then have Rose just stick her gem into the fetus’s stomach; Rose shapeshifted a womb but the rest of that still hasn’t been explained by the show. I think Pink somehow manage to create a human egg and let Gregg's swimmers do the rest. This is why we still see Rose pregnant in the video. I believe that when Steven size grow a bit bigger, the parts that was Rose on the inside had to combine with the Diamond. Which is why She could not be around. Changing form into a smaller form does not require a lot of energy. As we can see with Pink turning into Rose. Pink is Bigger than Rose. and Steven is Smaller than Rose. so as Steven was born, She had to reprogram her Diamond to Be human Cells. This may mean Steven is a Half Light Construct of Pink. She paralyzes Steven, then put her fingers over steven's gem and penetrate it, then she pushes out with her hands a "hologram" (pink's information/code encoded in light) (kinda like how pearl's hologramselves are kinda individual and not constantly projected from her gemstone), then worse, imagine that she puts that information inside a forming new gem, a diamond, Red Diamond.
Pink seems to be able to emulate living beings, most likely after all the years of studying life on earth she learnt the ability to interact with it, like we see steven heal greg and connie, as well as other gems. if you break organic beings down to their components, they are not unsimilar to very complex machines.
Well, we now know what happens when Steven't gem is removed, and it makes a lot of sense. When removed, the gem continues to function based on the basic gem AI that we've seen and attempts to regain the parts of itself that it lost (Steven's physical form). However, the gem is projecting an image of Steven and definitely retains Steven's memories and personality, hence why it turns on White Diamond. Because the very code that makes up Pink Diamond has changed with Steven and is now different than when it was originally created.

I think Steven and Amethyst are supposed to represent sibling love. The reason why they share so much in common, why Steven and Amethyst bond so much, why they don't need a dance to fuse, why they're close, is because they're essentially siblings. Also, even if gems are romantically attracted, they can still fuse with a fusion dance, as seen with Ruby and Sapphire.

I had a theory back in the swing of SU that the very first Gems made by Sneople were not Diamonds but instead Pearls. Pearls in real life are made by oysters, an organic life form. Pearls in SU are easy to reprogram and are servile.
I'd theorize that somewhere along the line, Pearls made White Diamond with hopes to better help their organic creators, but eventually White Diamond's "help" somehow made their organic creators go extinct, perhaps violently but some AI stories go in a way that the AI is so good that humans just stop reproducing, causing their own extinction.
Eventually the Gem species would flourish from there.
The AI idea is not outrageous at all. I really like the folder analogy. The corruption ideas here seem spot-on, and the mention of 'glitches' sounds exactly what it looked like was happening in the episode.
It would be interesting to analyze the repercussions of Fusion in this context. A form of WiFi networking, sort of like Blue's Aura? Definitely computer programs and hardware working together to increase their power.
As for why the gems pop fully formed from the ground, they're likely based on the physical appearances of certain ones of their creators. That's my theory at least, but then, I also believe that species is parthenogenetic (explaining why gems except for Steven all present as women).
I personally don't like the theory that White Diamond was created by some ancient alien civilization. Instead, I like the idea of her existence was caused by the power of probability. Through the unexpectedly right circumstances, she was born into the universe. But, I feel like she wouldn't have the same look, then and now. When she was created, she would've been a small, disfigured entity with no idea what she was or what to do. Through hundreds, or even thousands of millions of years, she made improvements to herself, and created her own civilization.
White Diamond has always given me this feeling that she was a supreme being, like a deity. I think it would be more fitting if she just popped into the universe.

To me, I think of gems as being normal gemstones infused with a kind of life force (which is why they suck life out of everything around them when they are being formed) a lot like quintessence in Voltron; it can be used to power things, like the lions and other machines, but it is also life itself, and has been used to make people live longer. In SU, it's also harvested from life like in Voltron. So since gems have so much "quintessence," I would still call them "alive." They're like artificial life, but still life. Not quite machines, although the computer analogy was good.
I'd also like to point out that, in Voltron, quintessence is seen as bright light of different colors (raw quintessence is yellow or white, while quintessence refined by the Druids of the Galra Empire is violet, according to the Fandom Wiki). Considering a gem's physical form is made of solid light, I think this further supports my point.
I could also go so far as to say that if it is like Voltron quintessence, then maybe there is a sort of quintessence plane like the one in Voltron. We might've actually already seen part of this plane, when we went inside Pearl's gem in A Single Pale Rose. If this is the case, the plot could go in a similar route as Voltron: The Galra (gems) are low on quintessence resources which is why they conquer planets (it's been said that the gems can't make gems like they used to, and are low on resources), so to solve that problem, they go to the quintessence plane rather than continue destroying life.

I think that we can’t rule out the idea that gems are simply a homeworld species. Yes, they may have been made by sneeple (I totally subscribe to that theory), but them being computers makes no sense when it comes to their abilities to interact with the organic life.
• How would Rose have the ability to resurrect Lion? It’s arguable that Steven would be able to resurrect Lars, since there’s human DNA there, but Rose shouldn’t be able to save an organic creature.
• How would gems be able to cry, and why would they be programmed with crying? It makes no sense for that to be apart of their code, it’s resources being used for something that the diamonds would surely view as unnecessary. We’ve seen that Peridot lacks a lot of the “fluffy” abilities of era 1 gems, like shapeshifting and weapon summoning, but she can still cry. That energy could surely be put to better use by, say, making her physical form a bit taller.
• Why would fighter gems be programmed with a full spectrum of emotion? It would make a lot more sense to take that energy and processing power and shift it over to fighting ability. The only emotion they really need is anger.
• If the corruption blast was a song, Rose should’ve put up her bubble and not her shield. It leaves them vulnerable to the sound.
• Why does Connie have a totem in the aura plane? She shouldn’t be programmed into the gem aura plane, since she’s a human.
I don’t think the gem species is meant to be fully dissected and put into our society’s terms and ideas. Rebecca has tried very, very hard to make them seem alien in tech, personality, appearance, and sound.
1: Rose somehow made an egg, which evolved into steven inside her artificial womb. Rose seems like a gem with a very deep knowledge of biology.
2: Expression conveys information, and that is a form of communication, which is absolutely necessary for any sort of species. Furthermore, emotions are not useless, they play a BIG PART in survival and accelerated evolution. Crying for a gem is an emotional expression.
3: Because, did you ever experience extreme anger or desire of vengeance, or any sort of passion? emotions are a tool to modulate the output work of a sentient being, it is able to force a quicker rate of "evolution" or response to different situations, and bc emotion is intuitive (not purely conscious, and more complex than conscious thought) its *even better having a fighter that feels rather than think*.
4: What if the sound is transmited through the light? Light is a wave, sound is a wave, heck, wifi signal is light, we just cant see it.
5: Because steven is part human, and just like a hybrid device, he has the "protocols" (organic brain and inorganic gem) the communicate and interface with both species. The aura plane isnt a *different dimension or plane* or anything like that, its just a representation.
Galew All Blanco While I agree that an emotional spectrum would be necessary for expansion, I doubt that gems would agree with it. Why would a Pearl be given emotion, separated from their owner? If the gems were AI, Pearls should be the equivalent of a chatbot AI. We’ve seen that that’s how they’re expected to function, with our Pearl the most, even to the dismay of Pink Diamond. But they don’t function like that at all. They have their own reactions, emotions, and ideas from their owners. The fact that there’s two off color Pearls we know of proves this (our Pearl, and the Pearl who’s apart of Rhodonite).
Why would a Topaz be given the capacity to become emotionally attached to her peer? We’ve seen that the diamonds have no hangups about shattering, especially when a gem displays romantic attraction. Aquamarine confirmed that even same-gem relationships aren’t supposed to exist. Why would a gem be programmed with romantic attraction? That’s a very... big emotion to say the least.

White Diamond may not have seen a need to remove that part of programming. Quite often you can't just remove a piece of code because different pieces of code are usually dependent on each other to function. Gems may simply not work without their emotional functions.
Here is a theory: They are just cartoon characters and people like you shouldn't be overthinking nonsense like this.
This makes me want another movie, that has the creators of the diamonds return, for revenge, or if white diamond was made for leadership and concurring but then Steven has changed that, and gems no longer Concur, and the creators will not be happy, and the comeback rather to rejuvenate all or shatter all, and start a new gem empire. A threat that was worse than the Diamond's, a threat that began this entire journey, the ones that made Steven suffer, that would be an awesome movie or show.

It reminds me of the AIs in "The Tragedy of Fortuna" webcomic. They used to be some sort of free-roaming computer programs with godly powers, the deities of their world, but were forcefully crampled into computer cores and then put into robot bodies. They also could fuse and couldn't die unless one breaks their cores - just like gems can't die unless one shatters their gems. There's also a thing similar to corruption in the Fortuna universe, a clockwork virus - although its nature is much more complex: it's both an actual virus that infects robots and organics alike and turns them into disgusting mindless abominations of themselves, and a *computer* virus that destroys character files - all events of the Fortuna story unfold inside of a video game.
I guess Fortuna's author took some inspiration from Steven Universe.
after that mind blow i think WD's powers are about writing and editing the inner "code" on the gems (like DNA or software), YD's power are about the "hardware" like the light form it will take, in the corruption we see that WD corrupted a part of the inner code and YD apears to affect another part that's the form the gems willingly decide to use, in this case she corrupted them into this forced form they have to take ir reproduce, where we get to BD, i think her powers affect what are the emotions and intellegence of a gem, into turning them savage and in constant pain; and if you think on the logo of the Diamond ∆uthority you'll see they're opposites to each other, Blue being chill and sentimental with Yellow being apathic and easy to angry yet they're side to side, they compliment each other in some way, and then there's White, she's emotionless, narcisist and has the caracteristics of a psicopath from what we saw in LFHTH, while PD is the *complete* opposite, the real non-braty PD (Sugar said we'll know more about this part of her behavior) is more feeling, careing and she's about breaking the sistem, the cold, rigid sistem 'forcing progress WD implemented, and as i said before they must complement each other at some way, and what is with her powers? if WD is the "hacker" and "writer of code" PD must the technician that fix everything, that "anti-virus" (because at this point i can only think of the gems as the higher level of A.I.) that is about protecting the true nature of the code and the personality of a gem, and if you combine the failure of the four of them it will completely crack (literally) the sistem to the point is unfixable (and

Great. Now I have fallen in love with this IP again because of how good your theories are. I just today found your channel. Back before Future aired, I was so hugely into Steven Universe that I'd even spent hundreds on commissions, fan art, and even creating my own gem. The heavy lore of the show was what kept me in the fandom since the first season came out. There was so much potential, and that kept me thinking about it and crafting my own theories, stories, and headcanons. Future killed the show for me. A huge part of that was because I didn't like the way they told the story I think they were trying to tell, but also because I knew that the IP was never going to actually expound on the lore of the world that had been created over the years.
If you had been the one writing the show or if you had been on the production team, I am certain that you would have brought the show to the heights we all thought it was going to reach.
This has me reflecting on my love for the concept despite my dislike of many of the actual canon events in the show. The Steven Universe community and the theories and art that came out of it are amazing. The creativity and storytelling and world-building ability of the members of the community are still worth digging deep into even if the show is over and tremendous potential was lost. Your theory videos alone have me wanting to dive back into that community.
I so badly wish I could see the show that would have been if your theories had been used in the canon of the show. They are my headcanons now.

Add-on to this theory: you said that pearl was silenced by pink as some sort of computer command. While that may be true, yellow ordered peridot many times while she was on the diamond line. Peridot refuses.. maybe this is because steven/pink kind of manipulated peridot into saving the earth. Maybe this could be stevens diamond powers.
Another thing to add on, whenever steven needs to convince gems to act a different way, they often do. Maybe this is because pf stevens diamond command powers? Like ruby and sapph in the heart of the crystal gems arc.
Maybe the gem’s powers are connected to this. YellowD has electrical powers that can poof gems. Maybe those are overloading the machinery in their gems, causing them to restart/shut down
BlueD’s court has water/ice powers. Maybe this is an extension of their freezing and thawing of their physical forms.
Last thing, you know how gems can make flashlights using their gems (like pearl, ruby, garnet, and peridot) maybe thats a concentrated beam of light using the resources they have.

My theory is that White Diamond was the first gem and the process of creating diamonds takes billions of years similar to how they do in real life.
It doesn't take billions of years (in fact it can be done in a lab very quickly) but you have a point.
I don't know if I would call it artificial intelligence since they learn and, reproduce and have emotional reactions to there environment, though they are born with knowing what to do. But then again some animals here on Earth are born with a natural instinct in what to do when born. I can will out doubt say they are living brings because they reproduce, react to environment, have a need to survive and have a complex social structure. Gem production seems sort of like how ants reproduce, we just got to figure out what is in those injectors and where did that stuff come from. It's easy to assume someone also created them but who's to say they didn't turn them selves into the diamonds and perfected gem production. Or that each gem is a modified clone of the diamonds they serve. There just not enough info to come up with a single unified theory and be its so much fun to think about.

Adding to this, I always thought that when the gems sing or fuse, a certain type of music is released from their gem. It’s why it usually comes out of nowhere.
Steven in the first couple seasons uses instruments when singing, especially with Connie. When Connie sings with Pearl, we hear Pearl’s piano. As Steven gets older, he starts using less instruments to sing and sings to the tune from his gem.
I love to watch this Steven Universe theory channels, since I get to look at the show through the perspective of these theorists. Same with the Roundtable, Cartoon Universe, and even MatPat ( not for Steven Universe though). Usually most people just watch, and enjoy the show. But when you see these theorists looking through each episode, piecing together the story, it's so cool to see. This video really blew me away, especially the part about the music!

I have not finished watching yet, but you seem to have corruption and encryption mixed up--they are completely different and cannot be used interchangeably.
File corruption is where part of the file is deleted or overwritten leading to the remaining parts being incomplete and visually messed up but not necessarily unreadable, and it is almost always impossible to reverse. As humans are made from biological code, it also has an identical biological counterpart called mutation, which can cause dramatic changes to a person or animal's appearance and biology.
File encryption, on the other hand, is where a procedure is run to change the data to be completely unreadable unless you know how to reverse it--think like rot13 or other common "codes" for sending secret messages. Encryption cannot be run on a living being while still leaving the being able to function, and this should apply to Gems too--an "encrypted" gem would not even have a base form , as that would be made unreadable by the encryption as well. In fact, an encrypted gem would be the closest to dead a gem could ever be.
An encrypted file isnt special, its just a bunch of random data really, and it derived from another form.
Corruption is a distortion of some original data.
Encryption is just useful corruption, and not truly random, but made to look like so.

Its kind of funny how I always saw massive similarities between Gems and Cybertronians. The main difference being that the bodies of Cybertronians are constructed of living metal, instead of hard and liquid light, held within a force field, like a ST hologram, or flexibly, within a certain maximum range vs minimal stable density limit. It is also worthwhile mentioning that Cybertronians, depending on the universe canon, can also scan and reshape themselves within certain parameters such as size and mass, at will. Although in some continuities, transformers are made with their two modes, and changing their alt mode requires literal time in the shop to do so. But Primus, the creator 'god' of the Cybertronians, or perhaps Vector Sigma, could be seen as analogous to White Diamond, and the other diamonds, and the spark core of a Cybertronian, is relatively analogous to the gem core of a Gem. Furthermore, Fusion could arguably be seen as analogous to a Combiner bot, which, in its combined mode, usually seems to have a completely new and distinct personality (usually.. I know I know.. looking at you Bee-Team combiners).
Anyway, maybe some crossover potential in this sense.

The remote control has actually been a feature in many versions of Windows legally. This might be an interesting detail, but CPU creation is very much like gem creation. You most likely will get the thing you want, but there are still oddities and duds. The number of cores you get can be random. Plus, CPU seems like the most likely thing the gemstone stands for in our computers.

It looks like gems are some sort of von Neumann probe. Maybe the original species made WD, sent her to space to conquer planets for them, but then they went extinct for some reason, but because of her programming, she just continued making more gems and expanding her empire. Or she just killed them off, who knows how they treated her.
Or the white diamond can control the other gems because it represents white light and the white light derives the other colors, with the gems themselves being a part of the white diamond and the white diamond itself being a part of the gems and the white color can disappear with the other colors, that's why controlled gems turn grayish white.
And as gems represent their physical forms through energy, they are attracted to music not because of the lyrics or melody, but because of the vibrations that the sound makes. The representation of music in the world of Steven Universe is yet another manifestation of the vibrations of the gems and human beings only enter into the mix by table.

Hey so i was thinking how about the corruption is a result of a EMP Blast (if you don't know what a emp blast is it stands for Eletro-Magnetic-Pulse) Which is a hard drive (HDD) Uses magnets to Read and Write data to it and if a sudden pulse or black of magnet will Corrupt or completely Destroy any data on (As bits or 1's and 0's) it so I think this may be the cause because we can see yellow D has a form of emp that can poof a gem and fix the form of centi but i think it goes down like this: Yellow = Form Corruption/ Blue = Memory Damage (as we can see when centi first got slightly fixed by steven she had no memory's of him)/ White = Idk maby Blue and Yellow weren't strong enough to blast from homeworld to earth so maby White was there to either ack like a AMP (Amplifier) So that they can make sure that all gems were "Broken" So that the rebellion was gone for good But like i said Idk maby yes maby no it could be a song or a flash Idk hope this theory Is correct

I love the idea that White Diamond is the core of a dead star, a totally different type of being from the gems she created-- some enormously powerful and malicious organic being that made AI in her image. I think your idea that she was made to be a planet-powering AI is much more likely though. :) But I really like the idea that she couldn't be poofed, her form is solid and real, and her head glows all the time because she radiates energy, and that's why Pearl says she isn't like anyone else, not even the other Diamonds.
I've been pondering the AI idea back in Steven the Sword Fighter, when the dissolution of Pearl's projection seemed to free up enough run-time for her to finish rebooting her main program. By the time we actually saw homeworld and the last few episodes of the series, I couldn't imagine any other interpretation. Even the walls and artwork seem to be sentient programs.
I always thought the gems are made of nanobots that are all conducted by the CPU; the gem. This allows the bots to be synchronised with each other, and be able to change shape, also take huge amounts of damage. It might also explain why bubbled gems can't reform (nanobots can't get to the gem), and why when they shape-shifting they have the same colours (gems only have nanobots of certain colors)
I think the idea they are robots makes a lot more sense because since the concept of a mechanical man their has been a common theme of the robots revolting yet they do not have a plan after replacing humans similar to how the diamonds want to create more gems to then invade planets and create more gems but seems to not have plans after they turn all reachable planets into kindergarten which makes me think that although they say they are full of purpose and are created to serve a purpose in reality they have no purpose similar to a robot so in the end Rose Quartz which is commonly shown to be selfish, manipulative, and obsessive particularly with humans she has a point with the only way the Gem race which I find similar to a robot trying to find a use outside of humanity.
Also I always saw White diamond as a mother and the other diamonds her children so she saw what pink diamond did was just her children playing in the playground

1:15 I always thought that since I started watching the show (at around Sardonyx's arc), as it would make sense of many quirks of their "biology" and psychology, nevermind the social structure. Their Gems would act as their CPU, RAM and ROM. They would come preconfigured with roles and programming, that then evolves organically as they function. Their general tendency to stay the same for millenia unless acted on by organics could be explained as their substrate (in this case the very hard-to-reshape crystal) being very energy-intensive to reprogram, thus not really changing unless circumstance forced them to (like finding a new category of life, or having 1/4th of the top leadership replaced by a half-organic). It would also explain their reliance on sunlight as their only form of sustenance and the whole regeneration business, as it's an eminently practical way of running AI on multiple environments. That begs the question of who made the DIamonds (or White, if the at the time unreleased CYM had White be truthful when saying she split off the diamonds off of herself) and where they went, but that's a Riddle For The Ages. And this was actually very vindicated by the Movie, who portrayed Pearl like a consumer gynoid (which was absolutely terrifying btw) in how she was customizable at first, with the name of the song playing being a literal filepath to the main bootstrapping file on her gem. So, yeah, I felt pretty confident going into the video.
2:38 This was hinted all the way back when Peridot and Pearl fought for the Barn Leadership position, where Peridot claimed that Pearls were made to "hold your stuff". As we did not see them be particularly strong, and we had seen Pearl keep 3 artifacts in her gem, it was theorized that Pearls posessed a pocket dimension on their Gems to carry stuff with. This is relevant because no other gems were shown to keep any non-light objects inside their gems, even when it would be advantageous to do so (like with Topaz)
4:07 This also happens with fetuses. On the early weeks we pas through musltiple bodyplans that reflect our ancestry before we settle on our humanoid one. Also the base form thing was very well explored in material about corrupted gems and woth Amethyst's design

You can force stimuly on parts of the code of a neural network and the whole thing will adpat and trigger unused subsystems to continue functioning at lower capacity. This also reflects how the brain can redistribute functionality should half of it be missing at an early age.
7:18 I always thought of it as a very specific way of running an electiomagnet on an old computer (with very animalistic themes most of the time), only with light, as the crystal circuits apppear to be light-based and require nutrients to be built and sunlight to function. The modularity that Fusion displays also contributes to this theory.

About the corruption thing. I think the Diamonds are the Administrators on the Gems so they can change protected files such as the A.I (Accounts) engine(OS) they are running on. So I think that corruption is just Encryption so when the engine tries to run the A.I it loads garbage data and that happens making them revert into animals that were on homeworld before the you know. So the Diamonds have the decryption key so they're the only ones that can revert it but some data may be corrupted while the process is happening that the key for those data is different thus giving them corruption marks. A simplified version of this is just when the Diamonds Encrypt(Corrupt) Gems they use a random number and letter combination as a base to the randomization and when they try to decrypt(Decorruption) the Gems the code would change some of the code's keys cause the diamond's attempt at fixing them or decorrupting them used a corrupted key or a different one than the correct one thus giving them marks. This is so long IDK if this is even a good theory.

You stated that White Diamond was programmed to always be pleasant to "Avoid treating others rudely". But she literally had to be taught to say "please" and "thank you", AND not call other gems "lower lifeforms", I don't think being pleasant helped too much. Now I'm more certain than ever that the gem species are an ai or advanced life-form. I had thoughts in the past that they were such things, but didn't look further into it. I'm also confident that SOMEONE or SOMETHING produced the first Diamond or Gem. If I used any creative interpretation, I wanna say that it WAS Snake People. Ronaldo has basically been an oracle SPEWING facts important to the plot. It wouldn't be surprising if Snake People DID in fact exist and conceive the gem species. I like to think it came from a similar story like Metroid. The Chozo propogated Metroids which were supposed to eradicate the X Parasites. In a similar way, I believe SOME HIGHLY ADVANCED CIVILIZATION OF INTELLIGENT, SERPENTINE LIFE CREATED THE GEM SPECIES. What for, I couldn't say. It could have been an experiment, a way to make a system that would benefit their own society, or some other unknown motive.
i think how long a gem takes to reform has more to do with the gem's physical properties, i.e. what the gem is made for. We know quartz gems are made to be effectively grunt soldiers. It's useful in a battle for soldiers to be able to reform quickly before anyone gets a chance to shatter them. Pearls aren't traditionally likely to be in any kind of physical altercation and they're seen as an accessory, so from that perspective it would make sense for a pearl to take a long time to reform and think hard about their own reformation. Personality is certainly a factor though. Amethyst shows gems can reform before they're even "ready" to reform and Pearl deliberately thinks very hard about her appearance before reforming.

I think each diamond has power over a part of what makes a gem. When the diamonds blasted the surface of earth, their objective was to obliterate every gem on its surface, but they only managed to mess up part of the entirety of what makes a gem, and that’s why instead of total annihilation, the “virus” could only partially corrupt gems, because Pink Diamond wasn’t adding her power to the attack.

They state several times, the gems are PROJECTIONS... This literally means they are holograms with mass pretty much, light becoming solidified into a form. It doesn't mean they are computers but they are computer like in the way they behave, they are their OWN unique species. Steven is Also his own unique species because he isn't human but he isn't Gem either, which can get pretty confusing. So would that make Steven a Computer...? No, but people are right to compare the two though. because whenever gems are damaged or cracked, the phase in and out of existence almost like a corrupted file on a computer, or a glitchy model in a video game, we've seen this before. I don't think they are computers becuase well, they are gems! Also they are able to think for themselves, garnet especially, so this means that they have free will, which end the similarities between computers.

i don’t like the idea that they are just computers. it takes away a lot of the mystery and it’s also been stated that gems are simply just regular old gemstones until they suck the life out of the earth. whilst i do like the comparisons between them as it truly shows that they aren’t people and they don’t think like people, they are there own species. the only thing left to find out is who made white diamond (sneeple?)
