I start spring semester classes tomorrow morning...just wanted to say thank you for your consistent uploads over the passed several months. I learned a lot and was inspired to build unique teams.
After facing Hirofumi running this team on the ladder twice the last season, I copied the team and replaced the two dragons with Mimikyu and Meowscarada to have more self WP triggers😂 I somehow finished no.4 with the team but was really astonished to see Hirofumi's super in-depth team report. I spammed the self WP trigger lead almost every game, yet there were many more possible modes! Hirofumi's teambuilding ability is just on another level.. Also, thank you for the great content as always!
The game 2 Gastrodon earth power into Garchomp might have been just simply their best attacking move. Sun was up so a water type move would have been weakened (and muddy water is countered by wide guard) so I think Earth Power was actually pretty likely from their perspective. Obviously without knowing their set you also have to assume they could have Ice Beam as well, but if Tera will counter the Ice beam and lose to the Earth Power, and not Teraing would survive against Earth Power but lose to Ice Beam, I think it’s perhaps safer to assume they have the more common STAB than the coverage.

I've been using this team as a rental and I've made it to great ball in series 2. This is my first experience with vgc and it's been super fun to use this team
Started using a very similar strategy with flip Turn palafin, but opting for Maushold over Indeedee for redirection, as well as proccing the weakness policy of armarouge with beat up, as well as benefitting the rage Fist combo of annihilape. With the lack of Indeedee, Armarouge can make use of Stored Power instead, though I opted for flash fire over weak armor to make use of trick Room as speed control.
the play @ 25:10 makes sense. The gastrodon most likely isnt scared of tera grass armarouge if it has wide guard and no health, and its in sun which means muddy water definitely wont KO Garchomp. Also it wont muddy water if you’re spamming wide guard lol

I've had this idea about a trick room bait team with timid armarouge and imprison indeedee, with tailwind volcarona in the back. The whole idea was that, worst case scenario, you're still running the trick room set, so it doesn't really need to be a bait
Game 2 was a good example that just because the game has it's new Tera mechanic, you don't need to use it just for the sake of doing it. Garchomp had no worries from Dazzling Gleam thanks to Wide Guard and the only other threat of attack was a single target ground move.
How does Colbur Berry interact with Knock Off? I know you eat it first, but is the base power of Knock Off set when the move is selected so it's still boosted? Does anyone know?
Bulbapedia: If used on a Pokémon weak to Dark-type moves holding a Colbur Berry, the Colbur Berry will still be eaten, but Knock Off will get the damage boost regardless.

So I noticed scarlet and violet allows you to give 510 Evs now so now if you max out 2 stats you can put 6 evs into another stat. Am I crazy? Is this new for this gen?
Hey Aaron! I’m starting to think a brand new team every single video might not be required. Wonder if you’d ever do a “mini series” where you try to pick one of the strongest teams and climb ladder with it. You could emphasis the things you learn and strategy adaptations you make over time. Could also be cool to see you go through a team building process much like the one detailed in this team report. Not sure if you’d ever break away from the “one video - one team” concept, but these are a few ideas I think could be really neat!
Unfortunately this kinda explains what I dislike about this generation's meta. The mechanic is cool, the new moves are good, and the new Pokemon are cool. What could be so bad? The power level is already ridiculous. I just don't think we'll go back to the balance of Gen 8 with it's ridiculous power levels balanced out by huge HP pools.
It’s funny you say that since I actually love that the power level is so high. As long as everything is busted than nothing is truly busted. And that’s proven when you look at the series 2 tournies being ran and paradox mons aren’t flooding the meta. A lot of people just like using powerful stuff. But to each their own my friend, hopefully it will become something that you enjoy as well!
Garchomp used to be ubers in singles, now its OU, so power creep is kinda inevitable to keep things fresh. Make it rain for example is the best attack (120 bp, spread, and only -1spa.) But assault vest Garchomp beats it easily, despite being 4 gens old.
Being a veteran in the VGC world, I do not like this generation or the meta currently. I'd elaborate if I had more time so maybe later, just wanted to show support for Aaron.
I understand this is ladder so everyone wants to play the best teams but man oh man everybody just always plays the same teams that you know all of their tera and moves lol. Now I understand why you feature unique japanese teams cause I feel like those guys over there dont just follow the trend like over here but come up with unique strategies to win.

Gastrodon is also a hard palifin counter since most only run jet punch, wave crash, Haze, and protect. So storm drain is it's kryptonight.
Probably didn't have ice beam because of clear smog, muddy water also gets blocked by wide guard.

Sylveon's pixelate turns any normal move into fairy, it just doesn't show on the move screen

it’s always been that way. 6 evs in one stat is the same as 4 evs because you can only bump a stat in multiples of 4, so the extra two evs are useless
