Big thank you to Dave for kindly including my radio station, 1071 The Boss! The staff is grateful and appreciate you! Next time you are in NJ, you should come to our events! Southside Johnny will be making an appearance with Tom Cunningham for a free live broadcast August 25 at Bar Anticipation in Belmar starting at 8 am through 11 am, then a big all day Spring Nut celebration afterwards at Asbury Lanes in Asbury Park (that may be sold out, though--but if you and Kathy want to come with me, lmk!). There's electric charging nearby, too!
Even though Tesla has the industry-best in-car nav/planning software, the flexibility and simplicity of CarPlay is hard to beat, because it gives one good interface across your phone and cars. IMO, CarPlay Google Maps bird's-eye view on my giant 16" Ford Lightning screen is even better than my Tesla maps. I like my Model S just as much, but I would gladly trade its video games or karaoke features for CarPlay.
Whatever happened to their App Store ? That was supposed to provide third-party software engineers to for other audio and map products to be put on their system.
Dave, I personally have Apple CarPlay on my 2022 MYP. I opted to the additional screen.I did not like having to use the browser. I have used the Hansshow screens. I never had a problem with any of them. I personally installed them myself. I even installed the front camera as to avoid the dinged bumper problem like your wife did. I have taken a road trip using a weather radar app to avoid storms as I traveled. The additional information. and added screen makes it much more easy to drive on long road trips. The radar app would be great for your trips to florida.
Just ordered the current version (2air) of the CarlinKit adaptor. Excited to see how this works in my 22 MYLR. Update: I ordered the 2air model from Amazon and it doesn’t seem to work. What url did he set as a favourite? I’m going to send the vendor a question but I also see they have a T2C model?! Update: got the right one but I couldn’t get it to work while driving?!
@@paulwcke I have this same kit and while I used it a few times, mine stopped working over a year ago. I don’t know why. Annoying, and my inquiries to the 2air manufacturer have been ignored. I do have to say that I am not really missing much, as I found that the Tesla nav just works better for long trips, and it now has more music services, but that is not an excuse…..
Another fun video. Thanks. Personally, never really felt the need for CarPlay in my Tesla . If I want Waze, I simply use it on my iPhone that attaches to a MagSafe charger that is held in place on the top left corner of my monitor.
@@outofspecdave1554 I have not. One person I was chatting with said it still works even with highland someone else said anyone on mcu2 it does not work. If I realize I really miss Sirius which I cancelled when I picked up the car I’ll give it a try.
I don’t own the device, but I would assume it depends on which bluetooth the phone is connected to. I’ve been using “Tesla Android Project” for the past 2 years to get Apple CarPlay / Siri Eyes Free (hey siri read my text messages / send texts while driving and more) in my Tesla center screen.
Crazy thought, maybe suction cup a magsafe charger/holder in the useless left side of the screen and you can have a mobile computer showing you more relevant information about your trip and basically anything else you want.
I have considered it. My concern has been the security concern of pushing my carplay info to a website which then mirrors it in the browser as I would imagine any nefarious actors hacking the website would be able to intercept your phone carplay data which include your calls contacts and messages.
all that info is already out in the world, and frankly no one cares enough about you to do this. so just get it and enjoy life, your info is literally on the web as is.
Robert keeps saying the Tesla dealer, dealer, dealer. Tesla does not have dealers. One of the things that I love about Tesla is that you purchase it directly from the company not from some third-party dealer. Tesla has only stores and service centers not dealers.
All those hoops to jump through because Elon Musk is too arrogant to incorporate Apple Carplay or Android Auto. Dave nailed it. Now that Tesla sales have come back down to earth, perhaps his ego will too...but I doubt it.
Apple users will not be denied! Resistance is futile. Neither Tesla, Rivian, and now GM will stop someone from coming up with a hack or workaround for CarPlay.
Hi Dave! Any chance of visiting the new Vinfast dealer in Smithtown? I know you've made videos at the Tesla dealer in Smithtown (where I got mine) so it'd be cool to see you make a video at the Vinfast one!
Highway radar (which is also in beta on iOS) is way better than Waze and you don’t need nav on a Tesla. You can just grab one of the endless HUDs for the steering stalk and you’re golden.
Looks interesting. It hooks crowd sourced reports. Waze has its pluses and minuses. Google took someone to the wrong place yesterday but Waze was correct and today Waze didn’t piece together the road closure but google maps did. Object on road, animal on road, pothole, etc are nice notifications. I’ll take a look at aforementioned app to see if those show up.
just like all the other solutions to this, it's super laggy and slow. Rather than this complicated set up, you might as well buy one of those budget apple carplay screens that go for like less than 50 bucks now, you'll get the same exact experience. I have no idea why these workarounds for apple car play are still THIS slow.
I can’t believe what I paid for. Brand new Highland model 3 and it doesn’t have Apple Car Play. Yet every basic car out there has it standard. Ridiculous that we have to pay $15 CAD a month just to get the entertainment system working.
Your suggestion won’t allow text messages to be listened to or composed while driving via Siri voice commands since Tesla doesn’t support the Bluetooth “eyes free mode” which I think iOS and Android phones enforce for safety. However CarPlay enables “Siri eyes free”. Siri is so good I typically don’t keep the CarPlay gui visible in my tesla and I use voice commands for everything. Siri’s voice workflows are much better / less distracting than Tesla voice assistant. Example, when composing a text using Tesla system, the car doesn’t read back the message for you to hear before sending it. Instead it prints the message in small text. Not a very safe system. Apple systems reads back your message and allows you to change it before sending it. That’s the tip,of the iceberg.
Hi Dave. As you research these devices for yourself, could you also keep an eye out for similar functionality with Android Auto, for us Android plebes? 😂

Initially I missed apple car play on Tesla. Now I am fine with Tesla software which is one of the best.
Make sense… but what I do miss is my Uber drive app in the screen.
Only reason I added it was for avoiding highways. If and when Tesla adds avoid highways to nav I’ll remove it. I went the hansshow f9 screen.
